A news report When I was in my early teens, I was a huge fan of a local band. I saw them play many times, bought plenty of their posters and records, and was excited when I met them after shows. But as they grew and received more attention from the industry, they started making changes to their music. The rough edges(小缺点)that made them stand out were smoothed over. There wasn’t much left that I connected with. I watched as a band I loved turned into something I could hardly recognize. I didn’t know much about the music industry at the time, but it was clear to me that they were taking a huge risk. Many artists, understandably, think they will find more commercial success by eliminating any aspect of their music or image that someone might find objectionable(令人反感的). However, what is unobjectionable is also unremarkable. My experience made me think about what makes someone fall in love with a song or a band. It’s different for everyone, I’m sure, but I think one of the key factors that make an artist connect with a fan is realness. When artists write what they think people want to hear instead of what they want to express, they are missing out on points of connection that can turn a casual(偶然的)listener into a super fan. This experience also made me think about what role I wanted to play in the music industry. I knew by then that I didn’t have the talent to be an artist myself. But I loved learning about the music industry. I loved doing research on what makes an artist successful and why. When I listened to a new artist or saw a band play, I wanted to find out what made them special, protect it, and share it with the world. I eventually figured out that managers are the ones who are in the best position to achieve that. 4. How did the author feel when the band he loved changed its style? A. He was upset. B. He was carefree. C. He was hopeful of their success. D. He was confused about the reason. 5. What does the underline word “eliminating” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Making up for. B. Getting rid of. C. Making use of. D. Getting used to. 6. What does the author think helps artists win super fans? A. Having great talent. B. Being true to themselves. C. Writing songs people like. D. Communicating with listeners. 7. What might the author be now? A. A pop singer. B. A band director. C. An artist manager. D. An educational researcher. C From the moment we wake up and check the messages on our smartphones, we’re exposed to text design. Throughout our day, storefronts (店面) and websites announce themselves through the typefaces (字体) they use. Adonian Chan, a 33-year-old Hong Kong graphic designer, calls the different texts a “visual landscape”. In his hometown, signs written in traditional Chinese characters can be found around every corner. One calligraphy style, above all, has come to represent Hong Kong: Beiwei Kaishu, which has its origins in 4th-century China. After World War II, Beiwei Kaishu was used widely in Hong Kong signs, partly because it is highly recognizable, even from far distances. But with the appearance of LED signs and computer-produced typefaces, signs written in the style were disappearing from Hong Kong. As a result, few designers working today are aware of the Beiwei Kaishu style. In 2016, Chan asked a master of calligraphy in Hong Kong to teach him to write in the Beiwei Kaishu style. He then started the process of digitizing (数字化) the characters. He first wrote the characters on paper with a brush and ink. Next, he made a pencil sketch. Finally, he recreated the characters digitally, using a computer program called Glyphs. One of the main challenges when digitizing the ancient calligraphy is striking a balance between the artistic expression and the need of design, says Chan. He can complete two characters a day, depending on their complexity, and is aiming to digitize 6,000 characters. Chan says his project is more than preserving a centuries-old writing style and that he sees himself as building on the work of previous generations. He has named his typeface Beiwei Zansyu and hopes it will eventually appear on phones and computers. 8. Why was Beiwei Kaishu popular in Hong Kong after World War II? A. It had a long history. B. It could be seen clearly. C. It was a symbol of Hong Kong. D. It fitted in the “visual landscape”. 9. What leads to the disappearance of Beiwei Kaishu? A. Its pattern. B. City development. C Its designers. D. New technologies. 10. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs? A. Beiwei Zansyu will be available soon. B. Beiwei Zansyu looks great on the phone. C. Chan’s project needs a lot of time and efforts. D. Preserving the ancient style is Chan’s only purpose. 11. Which of the following words can best describe Adonian Chan? A. Capable and determined. B. Creative and energetic. C. Talented and hard-working. D. Generous and ambitious. Some dogs have so many toys that it can be difficult for their owners to remember them all. So it might surprise you to know that, according to a new research, some of our four-legged friends have the ability to remember the names of their toys, especially the well-loved ones, even those they haven’t seen for a long time. The new study involved five dogs that had taken part in research two years before. The dogs were taught the names of 12 toys. After one month, researchers tested them to see if they could remember the names, and the dogs could. The owners then hid the toys for two years. In the new study, each owner put the hidden toys on the floor alongside other toys. The owners said the names of the hidden toys and asked the dogs to fetch them. On average, the dogs made correct toy choices 44%. Some of the dogs had a success rate of up to 60%. If the dogs had been totally unable to recognise the names of their toys, they’d have been expected to make the correct choices 20.4% just by chance. Researcher Shany Dror said the study showed the dogs were storing the names of their toys in their long-term memory. The research team highlighted not all dogs can learn the names of objects, and the reason why some can and others can’t isn’t clear. “Dogs who could learn the names of objects often had owners that spent a lot of time with them. The more you invest (投入) in your dog, the more you will get back from the relationship,” Dror said. 12. How long were the toys hidden in the study? A. Two months. B. Two years. C. One month. D. One year. 13. How did the author show the results in paragraph 3? A. By listing numbers. B. By telling stories. C. By showing reasons. D. By giving examples. 14. What can be inferred from Dror’s words? A. You will get back more than you invest. B. You should invest more money in your dog. C. Better abilities to remember come from more company. D. Better relationship with your dogs is based on more toys. 15. Which is a suitable title for this text? A. Dogs and Their Toys B. Dogs’ Playing Habits C. Dogs and Their Owners D. The First Chair, a young violinist, called upon each section to play, tuning them with precision and grace. The moment the musical director appeared, a wave of applause filled the air. The annual High School Music Festival was the highlight of my year. As a music teacher, I never missed a session, always amazed by the extraordinary talents the musical directors inspired in their students. But this year might be my last visit. With age catching up, my desire for retirement was growing stronger. Honestly, there was always a touch of dissatisfaction and envy in my heart as I watched these school bands, because I had never been able to develop a band to this level. I taught in a small primary school. My students played beginner music, and they were happy when we managed to play from the start all the way to the end of a piece, with all the instruments finishing together. The complexities of full tone, dynamic control, and balance were beyond their abilities. As the band opened with their first piece, the striking sound of violins, accompanied by the lively notes of pianos, set my heart pounding. Wouldn’t it be great to be the musical director for one of these massive high school bands? I thought as the music transported me. When the last notes rang out, there was a brief silence before thunderous applause erupted. My aging eyes scanned (察看) the stage, seeking familiar faces among the performers. But my vision was no longer sharp enough to recognize anyone. During the tea break, I headed toward the entrance hall. “Miss Jones!” a young man’s voice cut through the crowd. I recognized the concert uniform he was wearing. It was the very violinist I had been admiring. Puzzled, I searched his face for familiar features. It turned out to be Bradley, a former student of mine who was difficult to forget. Schoolwork had been hard for him, and he had struggled through all his subjects. It was a pleasant surprise to meet him here. We sat down and had a chat. I remembered the day when he asked to join the school band. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I was still smiling as I made my way back to the music hall. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 红河州第一中学2024级高一下学期4月月考 英语试卷 注意事项: 1. 1. A 5. B 6. B 7. 根据第一段的“There wasn’t much left that I connected with. I watched as a band I loved turned into something I could hardly recognize.(我已经没什么可留恋的了。我看着我喜欢的乐队变得我几乎认不出来。)”可知,作者曾经那么喜欢这支乐队,但是这支乐队的改变让作者无所适从,因此可知这个乐队的改变让作者感到伤心难受。故选A项。 根据第二段的“Many artists, understandably, think they will find more commercial success by eliminating any aspect of their music or image that someone might find objectionable(令人反感的). However, what is unobjectionable is also unremarkable.(可以理解的是,许多艺术家认为,通过消除他们的音乐或形象中任何有人可能会反感的方面,他们会找到更多的商业成功。然而,无可非议的也并不显著。)”可知,很多艺术家想要获得商业上的成功,所以就要将让人感到反感的方面给去除掉,这样才会让人接受,因此可知,划线词在此次意为“消除”,与B选项Getting rid of“摆脱”语意相近。故选B项。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段的“My experience made me think about what makes someone fall in love with a song or a band. It’s different for everyone, I’m sure, but I think one of the key factors that make an artist connect with a fan is realness.(我敢肯定,对每个人来说都不一样,但我认为让一个艺术家和粉丝联系起来的关键因素之一是真实。)” 根据最后一段“This experience also made me think about what role I wanted to play in the music industry. I knew by then that I didn’t have the talent to be an artist myself. But I loved learning about the music industry. I loved doing research on what makes an artist successful and why. When I listened to a new artist or saw a band play, I wanted to find out what made them special, protect it, and share it with the world. I eventually figured out that managers are the ones who are in the best position to achieve that.(这段经历也让我思考我想在音乐行业扮演什么角色。 C From the moment we wake up and check the messages on our smartphones, we’re exposed to text design. C. Its designers. D. New technologies. 10. What can we infer from the last two paragraphs? A. Beiwei Zansyu will be available soon. B. Beiwei Zansyu looks great on the phone. C. Chan’s project needs a lot of time and efforts. D. Preserving the ancient style is Chan’s only purpose. 11. Which of the following words can best describe Adonian Chan? A. Capable and determined. B. Creative and energetic. C. Talented and hard-working. D. Generous and ambitious. 8. B 9. D 10. C 11. He can complete two characters a day, depending on their complexity, and is aiming to digitize 6,000 characters.(陈说,将古代书法数字化的主要挑战之一是在艺术表达和设计需求之间找到平衡。 根据第四段“In 2016, Chan asked a master of calligraphy in Hong Kong to teach him to write in the Beiwei Kaishu style. He then started the process of digitizing (数字化) the characters.(2016年,陈请香港的一位书法大师教他写北碑楷书。 A。 Some dogs have so many toys that it can be difficult for their owners to remember them all. A Two months. B. Two years. C. One month. D. One year. I’m Li Hua, and today I want to share how music transformed my life. Two years ago, I was a shy teenager who rarely spoke in public. Everything changed when my music teacher encouraged me to join the school band. Though my fingers ached while learning guitar chords, I gradually found joy in creating melodies. Performing my first song on stage, I realized music could break my fear of being seen. Besides boosting my confidence, music became my emotional anchor. During stressful exam periods, soothing piano pieces calmed my mind. Collaborating with friends in the band taught me teamwork and perseverance. Music isn’t just entertainment—it’s a bridge connecting hearts and healing wounds. It opened doors I never imagined. Thank you! 要求考生写一篇演讲稿,参加主题为“Music Has Changed My Life”的英语演讲比赛。 Collaborating with friends in the band taught me teamwork and perseverance. While I was collaborating with friends in the band, I learned teamwork and perseverance through countless rehearsals. 1】 Everything changed when my music teacher encouraged me to join the school band. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: I remembered the day when he asked to join the school band. He was so eager, but he had no prior musical experience. I was hesitant at first, but his enthusiasm convinced me to give him a chance. I started from the very basics with him. He practiced hard, often staying after school to get extra help. It was a long and difficult journey, but he never gave up. And now, seeing him as the First Chair in this high school band, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment. I was still smiling as I made my way back to the music hall. I realized that every student has the potential to grow and shine, regardless of their starting point. My small primary school students might not be as advanced as these high schoolers yet, but they too could achieve great things with time and dedication. I gladly decided that I would not retire just yet. I wanted to continue teaching, to inspire my students just as I had inspired Bradley, and to see where their musical journeys would take them. 词汇激活 行为类 ①说服某人做某事:convince sb. to do/persuade sb. to do ②放弃:give up/quit/abandon ③意识到:realize/recognize/become aware of ④实现:achieve/accomplish/fulfill ⑤决定:decide/determine 情绪类 ①热切的:eager/avid/enthusiastic ②高兴地:gladly/happily/with delight 【点睛】[高分句型1] And now, seeing him as the First Chair in this high school band, I felt an overwhelming sense of pride and accomplishment.
