You never know what you will discover if you stop and look around once in a while. Sean Kennedy, a gas engineer in England, does this often while out on the job.
One day, Sean was working, as usual, while next to a busy roadside. Nearby was a rabbit hole, which caught his eye. With a closer look, the man found a letter inside. But when he picked the letter up, he realized that there were actually three in total.
It would make sense to suppose that these letters were blown there by the wind or some animals took them there. But Sean was certain it was not possible. “If so, they would be scattered. But these three letters were together,” he explained. “They’d been put there.”
It appears that the letters were simply a way for the sender to keep in touch with the receiver, though there’s no way of knowing whether the conversation was with a relative, friend or pen pal. In fact, the name of the sender is not clear enough to see what it is. What Sean did know is that the letters were addressed to “Miss Jane” in York and one letter was postmarked (盖邮戳于) in 1976 and others from Cambridge shire and Kent in 1982.
In an effort to solve this mystery and return the letters to their owners, Sean shared details of his find, along with pictures online. Although many have shared it, no one has come forward to claim the letters.
Sean guessed that the people involved with these letters might no longer be alive, but he still thought it was worth a try and was happy to keep them safe during the time. “I’ll be happy to hand them over. It’s a mystery which is unresolved at the moment,” the man said.

We apologized (道歉) and went for our own ways.

I walked into a wild grade 3 classroom. Loud music was playing and the kids were throwing a football to each other. I was a mid-year replacement (替补) teacher. The previous teacher could no longer teach these children and left the job during the holiday break. As soon as I walked into the room, I understood why.
I then put up a mirror on the wall next to the blackboard and began writing my name. Later, I asked the children one by one, to tell me their names and what they wanted to learn. It was a difficult task because only two children said they wanted to learn something! I set the classroom rules and talked to the students’ parents. I hoped that I could fix these noisy kids. But it was the mirror that saved the day. In fact, it also saved the whole year!
The mirror allowed me to see my students every move while I was writing on the blackboard. They soon wondered how I knew who was misbehaving without looking at them. When one student finally asked me, I told him I had a special teacher’s eye.
At first, they did not believe me. But they did begin to behave better, especially while I wrote on the blackboard. They were starting to think that I had a magical (魔法的) eye. I never told them differently. Why mess up a good thing?

Before 4th May, China’s National Youth Day this year, great writer Mo Yan wrote a letter to young people. Here is a part of the letter:
What should we do when having a tough (艰难的) time in life? I can’t give you a textbook answer, but I’d like to share two stories of my childhood. They are about A BOOK that brought me knowledge and A MAN that brought me strength (意志力量).
The book is Xinhua Dictionary. My family lived a tough life, and I had to drop out of school. Back then, children of my age were at school, learning and playing games together, but I didn’t have that luxury (奢华). The good thing is that I got a copy of the Xinhua Dictionary, and it was all I had. Most of the words I knew didn’t come from school. Instead, I learned them by reading the Xinhua Dictionary, which got me through the tough time and prepared me for my writing career.
The man is my grandpa. One day, I got caught in bad weather with Grandpa when we were on the way home with a handcart (手推车) of grass. There were thick clouds overhead, the sky was getting dark, and a heavy storm was coming. The wind got stronger and stronger. I was pushed down to the ground and couldn’t move. Grandpa, however, hung on to the handcart. It seemed that he had no plans to run for cover—he decided to fight against the wind. Then in the strong wind, Grandpa’s legs were shaking, but he didn’t move back. Nor did the handcart. Although the grass was long gone at the end of the day, we still had the handcart.
So, my dear young friends, I want you to remember that when you are having a tough time in life, don’t lose heart. Never let life knock you down (击倒). Even in the hardest situation, there is hope that encourages us to move forward.

I didn’t use to like my dad.
When he knew that I was poor in math in the primary school, he made me stay with my aunt who was a math teacher.
I wanted to stop practicing the piano because I thought it was boring. But he didn’t allow me. He made me practice every day and warned me not to be lazy. I would always remember how he punished me for not being good. Once I went to play computer games with some classmates instead of going to the piano lesson. After knowing what happened, he hit me in the face and stopped giving me any pocket money.
I would also remember that when I asked him to buy me a pair of expensive sports shoes, he turned me down. But he bought me a very good computer to have online lessons.
When I was at university, Mom wrote me lots of letters but he just sent money. And whenever I called home, he acted like he didn’t want to talk and he always said. “I’ll get your mom.”

Inside lay a silver necklace (项链) with a shining blue gem (宝石) that reflected rainbow colors in the sunlight. Though simple in style, it reminded Emily of Grandma’s bedtime stories about the treasure of their family. She fastened it around her neck, feeling Grandma’s love warm her heart.

A.Interesting. B.Natural. C.Meaningful. D.Successful.

As the new spring semester began music teacher Zhang Dong was quite happy to see her students at the rural (农村的) schools in Jilin City, Jilin Province.
Zhang, 41, has been working at Yangmu Experimental Primary School in Longtan District for over 16 years. In 2007, after graduating from Yanbian University in Jilin, Zhang refused several job opportunities to be a music teacher or a member of orchestras (管弦乐队) in large cities. “I grew up in a rural area, and both my grandfather and father were village teachers,” she said. “Therefore, I decided to come back to my hometown and teach the children in the countryside to sing, helping them realize their dreams.”
In March 2018, when Zhang got the news from the principal (校长) that students at primary schools in three villages of Datun, Zhaotun and Huanggou had no music classes because they lacked teachers, she immediately volunteered to teach them.
Beginning on March 6, she took on a new role as a visiting teacher. In addition to teaching at her own school, Zhang had to create a schedule (计划) that would allow her time to visit the three rural schools, each of which is about ten kilometers apart. “It was not easy to ride an electric bicycle on the country roads. It took a lot of time, but I persevered,” She said.
Zhang has held music classes with her students in the mountains, beside haystacks (大干草垛) and long rivers, so they could fully enjoy the beauty brought by music and nature.
In August 2018, Zhang established (建立) the Yangshumiao Choir (合唱团). Through her efforts, the choir has received acclaim. A short video of their performance has attracted millions of views online. The students from the mountains have since taken part in many competitions and received opportunities to appear on television programs.
Zhang was diagnosed (诊断) with cancer at the end of 2021, but Zhang returned to her work even though she had not fully recovered. She said, “I am a teacher, and I want to use music to illuminate (点亮) the hearts of rural children and tell the beautiful stories of the countryside through education.”

In a peaceful Ohio town, fourteen-year-old Emily discovered a mysterious box while cleaning her late grandmother’s room.
During a school trip to the town museum, Emily froze before an old painting. The lady in the portrait (画像) wore the same necklace! The guide explained excitedly, “This necklace belonged to Clara Bennett, our town’s founder: She achieved great things wearing it—built schools, helped the poor. People believed it brought courage.” Emily’s fingers touched her necklace. Now she understood why Grandma called it their “special symbol”.
But something terrible happened! While racing to catch the school bus that afternoon, the necklace’s chain broke. The gem disappeared into thick grass near the bus stop. Emily searched until sunset, tears running down her face. “I’ve failed to protect our family treasure,” she thought.
That night, Emily dreamed of Grandma singing their favorite song. She awoke to find the necklace resting on her desk, its chain perfectly repaired.
