What do you do when you feel unhappy? Do you listen to music? Do you talk to a friend?
Maybe next time you feel sad, you should try going outside if it is sunny. Doctors know that how much sunlight we get can change how we feel. Scientists learned this by interviewing people who live in different parts of the world. In the far north, in Alaska of Finland, for example, the days are very short in winter. People living in these places say that they often feel unhappy in winter. In the south, where there are more daylight hours, fewer people say they are unhappy in winter. The reason is the amount (数量) of sunlight these people get each day. Sunlight changes the chemicals (化学物) in our bodies, and these chemicals can change the way we feel. A couple of hours of strong sunlight or light from a special lamp can help your body make the chemicals that make us feel happy.
Another way to feel happier is to get some exercise. Just like sunlight, regular exercise helps our bodies make certain chemicals, which make us feel happier. In addition, exercise helps people sleep better and lack of sleep often makes people feel unhappy. Exercise also helps you get rid of stress. When you are angry or upset about something, exercise is a good way to get those bad feelings out of you.
19. Why do people in the far north feel unhappy more often than people in the south?
A. Because they can’t go outside. B. Because they get less sunlight.
C. Because the weather is too cold. D. Because the summer is too short.
20. What’s the main idea of the second paragraph?
A. It is better to live in the south. B. Southern people feel much happier.
C. More sunlight can make us happier. D. Northern people often feel unhappy.
21. ________will probably not make you feel happier according to the passage.
A. Living in different places B. Exercising more
C. Getting enough sleep D. Getting more sunlight
22. What is the best title for this passage?
A. Why Is Sunlight Good for You ? B. How Can Exercise Help You?
C. Ways to Feel Happier D. Functions (作用) of Exercising More

Everyone has got two personalities (性格)—the one that is shown to the world and the other that is secret (秘密的) and real. You don’t show your secret personality when you’re awake because you can control yourself, but when you’re asleep, your sleeping position (睡眠姿势) shows the real you. In a normal night, of course, you often change your sleeping positions. The important position that best shows your secret personality is the one that you go to sleep.
If you go to sleep on your back, you’re a very open person. You normally trust people and you are easily influenced (被影响) by new ideas. You don’t like to make people unhappy, so you never express your real feelings. You’re quite shy and you aren’t very confident. (自信的)
If you sleep on your stomach, you are a person who likes to keep secrets. You worry a lot and you’re always easily becoming sad. You never want to change your ideas, but you are satisfied with your life the way it is. You usually live for today not for tomorrow.
If you sleep on curled up (蜷缩), you are probably a very nervous person. You have a low opinion of yourself and often protect yourself from being hurt, so you are very defensive. You’re shy and you don’t usually like meeting people. You like to be on your own.
If you sleep on your side, you have usually got a well-balanced (平衡的) personality. You know your strengths and weaknesses. You’re usually careful. You have a confident personality. You sometimes feel worried, but you don’t often get unhappy. You always say what you think, even if it makes people angry.

He walked into a newspaper office and told them about the bullying. His story went into the newspaper and soon all the TV stations in Canada wanted to talk to him about his experiences.
After that, Rob continued his studies at school, but in his free time he helped other people with bullying problems. With a friend Katie, he made a website called www. bullyingcanada. ca. Every weekend Rob has to answer e-mails to the website. He also speaks to children, teachers and members of government around the country about bullying.
Rob’s most important message is: “When bullies are unkind to you, it isn’t your fault. There’s nothing wrong with you, so you should try to keep trusting yourself. And remember that there are people caring about your problems. You just have to find those people.”
One of Rob’s ideas is “Blue Day”, a special day for stopping bullying in schools. Students have to wear blue clothes and in class they learn how to stop bullying. More than 150 Canadian schools now celebrate Blue Day, but Rob won’t stop until there’s a Blue Day in every school in Canada.

Nowadays many children don’t like doing chores. Last week, we had a discussion about it. Here are the results.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】例文
Nowadays many children don’t like doing chores. Last week, we had a discussion about it. Here are the results. Some students think children should do chores at home. First, doing chores helps children develop their independence and teaches them to look after themselves. It also helps them to understand the idea of fairness. At last, everyone should take part in keeping the environment clean and tidy.
However, others don’t think children should do chores. They think these days children already have enough stress from school, and doing housework is a waste of time. It’s not necessary to learn it now because they can do it when they grow up. What’s more, it’s parents’ job to provide a clean and comfortable environment.
In my opinion, the earlier kids learn to be independent, the better it is for their future.

19 Why do people in the far north feel unhappy more often than people in the south?
Functions (作用) of Exercising More
C

With a friend Katie, he made a website called www. bullyingcanada. ca. Visitors to the website can find advice, stories and poems about bullying, in both English and French. When people are upset, they can talk on the phone or online to Rob and his team.
