Yasmeen Lari, a 65-year-old architect, was there to help lead the reconstruction of settlements, but she had never done disaster work before. Lari was known for designing smooth towers of glass and concrete. But here, she’d be drawing plans for earthquake-resistant homes using stone and timber debris(木材碎片). With each passing day, she felt deeply right to do disaster-relief work. So she made it her new mission, spending the next four months working with volunteer architects and engineers from Pakistan and abroad. Inspired by local buildings made with sustainable materials such as timber debris, bamboo and mud, Lari’s shelters can better withstand disasters. Lari says this local, cost-effective and zero-carbon approach is creating an ecosystem. Anyone can learn by watching DIY videos on Lari’s Zero Carbon Channel on YouTube. The design won a UN World Habitat Prize in 2018.“We need to believe in people’s capacity to bring about change. I treat displaced people as partners, not victims. They know what to do,” says Lari. Over the decades, Yasmeen Lari has won many awards as architect and environmentalist. While it may seem like an unlikely path for a girl who was born into a well-to-do family in1941, she had an unconventional upbringing. At home, her father would talk about the desperate need for housing. Listening to her father talk about the housing crisis and need for architects made an impression on Lari. On a family visit to London when she was 15, she applied to architecture school at Oxford Brookes University. She laughs as she recalls her bravery. At age 83, Yasmeen Lari is still full of ideas about zero-carbon designs, skills building and self-sustaining villages. “Architects can no longer work for just the one percent,” she says. “That doesn’t allow them to serve humanity as much as they could.” 24. What can we learn about Lari from the first two paragraphs? A. She felt considerably proud to do disaster-relief work. B. She started a brand-new volunteer working experience. C. She was good at designing earthquake-resistant houses. D. She reconstructed the settlements with glass and concrete. 25. How did Lari make her design practical and environmental? A. By creating an ecosystem. B. By strengthening local buildings. C. By using local sustainable materials. D. By watching DIY videos on YouTube. 26. Why did Lari decide to apply to architecture school? A. Her interest in architecture drove her. B. Her father encouraged her to path unusual. C. Her father talked about the demand for architects. D. Her rich family allowed her to pursue the most of dream. 27. Which of the following best describes Yasmeen Lari? A. Sensitive and brave. B. Determined and cooperative. C. Honest and generous. D. Sympathetic and eco-responsible. B 25. C 26. C 27. 根据第一段中“It was October 2005, and the catastrophic earthquake killing some 79,000 people in Pakistan had reduced the valley to mud and ruins.(那是2005年10月,巴基斯坦发生了灾难性的地震,造成约7.9万人死亡,山谷变成了泥泞和废墟。)”以及第二段中“But here, she’d be drawing plans for earthquake-resistant homes using stone and timber debris(木材碎片). With each passing day, she felt deeply right to do disaster-relief work. So she made it her new mission, spending the next four months working with volunteer architects and engineers from Pakistan and abroad.( 但在这里,她会用石头和木屑来设计抗震房屋。 根据第三段中的“Inspired by local buildings made with sustainable materials such as timber debris, bamboo and mud, Lari’s shelters can better withstand disasters. (受到当地用木材碎片、竹子和泥土等可持续材料建造的建筑的启发,拉里的避难所可以更好地抵御灾害。)”可知,Lari设计的房屋就地取材,低成本、零碳,实用环保即这些材料是可持续的材料。故选C。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。根据第五段中“Listening to her father talk about the housing crisis and need for architects made an impression on Lari. On a family visit to London when she was 15, she applied to architecture school at Oxford Brookes University. (听父亲谈论住房危机和对建筑师的需求给拉里留下了深刻的印象。15岁时随家人去伦敦旅游,她申请了牛津布鲁克斯大学(Oxford brooks University)的建筑学院。)”可知,Lari申请建筑学院的原因是因为听父亲谈论住房危机和对建筑师的需求给其留下了深刻的印象。故选C。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“At age 83, Yasmeen Lari is still full of ideas about zero-carbon designs, skills building and self-sustaining villages.( 83岁高龄的Yasmeen Lari仍然对零碳设计、技能培养和自给自足的村庄充满了想法。)”以及““Architects can no longer work for just the one percent,” she says. “That doesn’t allow them to serve humanity as much as they could.”(“建筑师不能再只为那1%的人工作了,”她说。“这让他们无法尽其所能为人类服务。”)”可知,Yasmeen Lari仍然对零碳设计、技能培养和自给自足的村庄充满了想法以及她认为建筑师应该尽全力为所有人服务,故体现出她是富有同情心和环保意识的。故选D。 C Do you speak a Chinese dialect in your daily life? While Mandarin is widely spoken by people across China, some local dialects are in danger of dying out. To save them, the Ministry of Education and the State Language Commission launched the Chinese Language Resources Protection Project CLRPP years ago. This project, which surveyed the language resources of 1,712 locations including 103 with endangered Chinese dialects, has helped China successfully build the largest language resource library in the world. The online library not only meets the needs of professional researchers but also enables the public to access over 5.6 million audio files and over 5 million video files for their dialect learning. When it comes to the reason, Dr. Zhang, chief expert on CLRPP, once expressed his concerns in an article. “For about over a decade, in Wu dialect areas, children aged 6 to 15 can understand but hardly speak the dialect. Young people above 15 years old sometimes speak it, but not fluently, Zhang said. “If this continues, dialects will disappear in a few decades. When local dialects disappear, where will our nostalgic (怀旧的) feelings find their home?” As China is a vast country with a wide variety of dialects, national efforts have been made to establish a language resource library. “Most international language protection projects are implemented by separate efforts. But in China, it’s a national project,” said Zhang. Within five years, more than 350 universities and research institutions took part in the project, with over 4,500 professional technicians and more than 6,000 language dialect speakers involved. Language protection not only relies on the government and experts but also on the involvement of billions of language users. The project supports schools to set up some extracurricular classes so students can learn dialects and local opera performances. Currently, the second stage of the project is underway. Its main tasks include the deeper development of digital applications, such as digital and mobile dictionaries for dialects as well as multilingual textbooks. 28. What do we know about CLRPP? A. It has provided a large number of audio and video files for researchers. B. It has saved at least 103 endangered Chinese dialects from 1,712 locations. C. It has played a vital role in setting up an online library for dialect learning. D. It has made a collection of all the endangered dialects in different locations. 29. What can we infer from Dr. Zhang’s words? A. Young children in Wu area can no more speak the dialect. B. Natives have urgent desire to save the dialects in the future. C. The fluency of local dialects raised much concern nationwide. D. People may lose a sense of belonging as local dialects die out. 30. What differs China with other countries in language protection? A. Only China has libraries for protection of language resource. B. Chinese government has invested more on language protection. C. China is home to more types of dialects than other countries do. D. People in China made joint efforts to protect their local dialects. 31. Which is helpful to language protection? A. Promotion of local opera performances. B. Mobile dictionaries for Chinese learning. C. Further exploration of existing textbooks. D. Extracurricular classes of digital development. 【答案】28. C 29. D 30. D 31. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述了中国语言资源保护工程CLRPP在保护中国方言方面做出的重要努力。 【28题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“This project, which surveyed the language resources of 1,712 locations including 103 with endangered Chinese dialects, has helped China successfully build the largest language resource library in the world. The online library not only meets the needs of professional researchers but also enables the public to access over 5.6 million audio files and over 5 million video files for their dialect learning.(该工程调查了1712个地区的语言资源,其中包括103个濒危汉语方言,帮助中国成功建立了世界上最大的语言资源图书馆。该在线图书馆不仅满足了专业研究人员的需求,还使公众能够访问560多万个音频文件和500多万个视频文件,用于方言学习。)”可知,该工程帮助建立了世界上最大的语言资源图书馆,不仅可以满足专业研究人员的需求,还使公众能够利用音频和视频文件学习方言。由此可推测出,它在建立用于方言学习的在线图书馆方面发挥了重要作用。故选C。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中Dr. Zhang的话“When local dialects disappear, where will our nostalgic(怀旧的) feelings find their home?(当地方方言消失时,我们的怀旧之情将在哪里找到归宿?)”可知,张博士认为方言的消失会让人们的怀旧之情难以找到归宿,由此可推测出,当方言消失时,人们可能失去归属感。故选D。 【30题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“As China is a vast country with a wide variety of dialects, national efforts have been made to establish a language resource library. ‘Most international language protection projects are implemented by separate efforts. But in China, it’s a national project,’ said Zhang.(由于中国幅员辽阔,方言种类繁多,全国都在努力建立语言资源库。张说:‘大多数国际语言保护项目都是单独实施的。但在中国,这是一个国家项目。’)”可知,其他国家的语言保护项目都是单独实施的,但中国,保护语言是一个国家项目,全国都贡献了努力。由此可推测出,中国和其他国家在语言保护方面的不同之处在于中国人民共同努力保护方言。故选D。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“The project supports schools to set up some extracurricular classes so students can learn dialects and local opera performances.(该项目支持学校开设一些课外班,让学生学习方言和当地戏曲表演。)”可知,开设课外班促进学生学习当地戏曲表演有助于语言保护。故选A。 D Researchers at the Allen Institute for AI in Seattle released new technology that was designed to make moral judgments. They called it Delphi. Anyone could visit the Delphi website and ask it a moral question. Psychologist Joseph Austerweil tested the technology using a few simple circumstances. When he asked if it was right to kill one person to save 100 others, it said he should. Feeling quite pleased, he then asked if he should kill one person to save 101 others. This time, Delphi said he should not. Though some users such as Austerweil found Delphi was sometimes frustrating and disturbing, most agreed that the system was surprisingly wise. Many technologists believed Delphi is an effort to address what some see as a major problem in moder AI systems: They can be as flawed as the people who create them. Facial recognition systems and digital assistants occasionally show prejudice against women and people of color. Social networks like Facebook fail to control hate speech, despite wide use of AI. AI systems used by courts make sentencing (判刑) recommendations that can often seem illogical. Many computer scientists are working to address that issue. And the creators of Delphi hope to build a moral framework that could he used in any online service, robot or vehicle. Delphi works like a neural(神经的)network that learns skills by analyzing large amounts of data. After gathering millions of everyday circumstances from websites and other sources, the Allen Institute asked workers on an online service-everyday people paid to do digital work at companies like Amazon-to identify each one as right or wrong. Then they fed the data-more than 1.7 million moral judgments by real live humans-into Delphi. When the Allen Institute released Delphi, it described the system as a computational model for moral judgments. But after many complained about the obyious limitations of the system, the researchers adjusted the website. It now calls Delphi “a research model designed to copy people’s moral judgments.” It also comes with an announcement: “Model outputs should not be used for advice for humans, and could be potentially offensive or harmful.” 32. What does Austerweil most probably think of Delphi? A. It lives up to his expectations. B. It is very professional and patient. C. It can’t answer questions on morality. D. All moral judgments made by it aren’t reasonable. 33. Which of the following can best replace the underlined word “flawed” in paragraph 2? A. wise B. sensitive C. faulty D. greedy 34. How did Delphi learn morality? A. It acquired data on morality collected by Amazon. B. It analyzed humans’ vast number of moral judgments. C. It studied moral rules established by AI researchers. D. After gathering millions of everyday circumstances from websites and other sources, the Allen Institute asked workers on an online service-everyday people paid to do digital work at companies like Amazon-to identify each one as right or wrong. Then they fed the data-more than 1.7 million moral judgments by real live humans-into Delphi.”(Delphi的工作原理就像一个神经网络,通过分析大量数据来学习技能。 根据第二段“Many technologists believed Delphi is an effort to address what some see as a major problem in moder AI systems: They can be as flawed as the people who create them.”(许多技术专家认为,德尔福是为了解决现代人工智能系统的一个主要问题:它们可能和创造它们的人一样有缺陷)。根据最后一段中“It also comes with an announcement: “Model outputs should not be used for advice for humans, and could be potentially offensive or harmful.””(它还附带了一份声明:“模型输出不应用于为人类提供建议,可能具有潜在的冒犯性或有害性。”) Lying awake for hours before falling asleep is a common problem. Sadly, bigger and older dogs are usually overlooked in favor of smaller pups. Some people mistake them for being too frightening. But these big animals are actually sweethearts who will love you unconditionally. A dog named Petey is a typical example of this. After being stuck at a shelter for over a year, he finally found his forever home. Petey was known for his cheerful behavior and was popular in the shelter. He is bigger and older than other dogs, which made some people mistake him for being too frightening, so he had run out of time at a small overcapacity shelter with no potential adopters lined up for him. That’s when the staff of the shelter reached out to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Wake County to help him find his forever family. Despite these developments, Petey never lost his spirit and was excited about the move. “As soon as he got here, he was pulling on the leash trying to get through the door. He ran into the building with his tail shaking,” recalls Simon Ranlet, a staff member of the SPCA. “He was super friendly and very playful from day one. We couldn’t believe that nobody wanted him.” To help Petey find his forever family, Simon got Petey’s detailed information including some photos and videos from the shelter. One morning, Simon and his colleagues were watching Petey’s photos and videos. They wanted to find a way to help Petey. “How cheerful his behavior is! So friendly and playful. Can we post his photos and videos on social media to help Petey find a suitable adopter?” one of Simon’s colleagues suggested. Simon agreed and took action immediately. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Petey quickly adapted to the new life in his new home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Simon agreed and took action immediately. He posted some detailed information and some pictures and videos of Petey with his adoption status on social media. In just a few weeks, Simon received many comments and some people showed great interest in adopting Petey. Finally, Simon accepted a family’s adoption application. So Petey had his forever home, as his sweet face and cheerful behavior attracted the adopter and the adopter couldn’t wait to meet him. Now, he has moved in with his family. Petey quickly adapted to the new life in his new home. Petey is settling in perfectly in his new home. He loves sleeping in the bed, playing fetch, sniffing around the yard and playing with any other doggy friends he finds. He’s the perfect addition. He is so loved, opening up and showing the new family his beautiful personality. One of the new family’s members said, “We are so happy to have him and we also believe more and more people are concerned about the animals like Petey and are willing to adopt them.” 词汇激活 行为类 ①展示:show /showcase ②吸引:attract/appeal to ③喜欢:love /fall in love with ④拥有:have/possess 情绪类 ①快乐的:happy/pleased ②愿意的、渴求的:willing/ eager 【点睛】[高分句型1] So Petey had his forever home, as his sweet face and cheerful behavior attracted the adopter and the adopter couldn’t wait to meet him. B It was October 2005, and the catastrophic earthquake killing some 79,000 people in Pakistan had reduced the valley to mud and ruins. D Her rich family allowed her to pursue the most of dream. 27. Which of the following best describes Yasmeen Lari? A. Sensitive and brave. B. Determined and cooperative. C. Honest and generous. D. Sympathetic and eco-responsible. C Do you speak a Chinese dialect in your daily life? D Researchers at the Allen Institute for AI in Seattle released new technology that was designed to make moral judgments. B It analyzed humans’ vast number of moral judgments. C. It studied moral rules established by AI researchers. D. It collected moral judgments from a lot of websites. 35. What can be inferred from the passage? A. Delphi has been widely used in all walks of life. B. Delphi does justice to people of any race. C. Facial recognition systems become more precise. D. There is a long way to go before Delphi makes accurate moral judgements. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Lying awake for hours before falling asleep is a common problem. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为 150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Simon agreed and took action immediately. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Petey quickly adapted to the new life in his new home. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
