根据Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas这部分的第二句话“Visiting Lucayan National Park, which is home to both beloved Gold Rock Beach and one of the largest underwater cave (洞穴) systems in the world, is an affordable trip.(参观Lucayan国家公园是一次负担得起的旅行,这里既有备受喜爱的金岩海滩,也有世界上最大的水下洞穴系统之一)”可知,在Lucayan国家公园可以欣赏美丽的海滩。 通读全文并根据Dominican Republic这部分的第三句“In Santo Domingo, walk around Zona Colonial, the historic heart of the country’s capital, you’ll find castles, cathedrals (教堂), cobblestone streets, and cafes around every corner.(在圣多明各,漫步在该国首都的历史中心Zona Colonial,你会发现城堡、大教堂、鹅卵石街道和咖啡馆遍布各个角落)”可知,本文介绍的其他地方都是自然风光为主,而Zona Colonial尤以历史古迹著称,所以Zona Colonial的特殊之处就在于它的历史古迹。 对比文中四处旅游景点的酒店价格, Grand Bahama Island, The Bahamas标题下最后一句“There are hotel rooms at $80 a night. (有每晚80美元的旅馆房间。)”;Madeira, PortugalSri Lanka标题下“Visitors can find hotels starting at $85 a night(游客可以找到每晚85美元起的酒店)”;Dominican Republic标题下“you can find hotel deals starting at $33 a night.(你可以找到每晚33美元起的酒店优惠。)”;Sri Lanka标题下“Do you want to spend just $25~50 a day? She carried some goods with many girls like her to sell in the market to raise herself. At that time, the plastic bags, being strong and light, became popular in Gambia. The problem was that people did not reuse the bags and simply threw them behind their homes. Over time, the houses were surrounded by trash. Ceesay lived in such an environment for many years. She kept learning from the surrounding environment and planned to take action to change. In 1997, she started a recycling movement called One Plastic Bag in Gambia. She educated women in Gambia to recycle plastic waste into income for themselves. In the beginning, the movement had a mission to educate their village colleagues about the need to reuse garbage and recycle plastic waste, rather than letting the garbage increase behind their homes. Over time, the movement became big and able to support and provide income for women around. It was also able to greatly reduce plastic waste in Gambia. But the work of collecting trash turned to be taxing. During the rainy season, plastic waste became wet and difficult to take, and after that it still took patience to dry it before it could be processed. Ceesay said, “As a habit, people are used to pouring their garbage behind their houses, and because it is not visible, they forget it. But the bad effects again knock on your door very quickly-dirty air, various diseases and so on. Of course, if one man’s house is clean but his neighbor’s is not, then the man is also not healthy.” For 17 years, Ceesay has contributed to one of the most important problems about the plastic waste. In 2012, she got the TIAW Difference Maker Award in Washington, D.C., United States. Her story was written into a book, which inspires many others to join or become makers of change in their own communities. 4. What can be learned about young Ceesay from Paragraph 1? A. She gave up the chance of going to school. B. She had many friends good at doing business. C She sold strong and light plastic bags to support herself D. She lived in an environment heavily polluted by plastic waste. 5. What can we infer about Ceesay’s recycling movement? A. It aimed to make full use of natural resources to get rich. B. It was hard to carry on because of the shortage of workers. C. It benefited both people’s economic situation and the environment. D. It taught the villagers to replace plastic bags with handmade ones. 6. What does the underlined word “taxing” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Challenging. B. Pleasant. C. Dangerous. D. Successful. 7. What does Ceesay mainly intend to say in Paragraph 4? A. Bad habits are hard to remove once formed. B. Garbage problems contribute greatly to climate change. C. Valuing the relationship between neighbors is important. D. Dealing with plastic waste is a shared responsibility in communities. 【答案】4. D 5. C 6. A 7. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述Isatou Ceesay受到自己生活环境的启发,组织One Plastic Bag活动,号召社区居民处理并回收利用塑料口袋,这既能帮助当地人增加收入同时对环境也有益。 【4题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段的“At that time, the plastic bags, being strong and light, became popular in Gambia. The problem was that people did not reuse the bags and simply threw them behind their homes. Over time, the houses were surrounded by trash.(当时,塑料袋结实轻便,在冈比亚流行起来。问题是人们没有重复使用塑料袋,而是直接把它们扔到房子后面。久而久之,房子被垃圾包围了)”可知, Ceesay年轻时生活在一个被废弃塑料袋严重污染的环境。故选D。 【5题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段的“Over time, the movement became big and able to support and provide income for women around. It was also able to greatly reduce plastic waste in Gambia. (随着时间的推移,这场运动变得越来越大,能够支持并为周围的女性提供收入。它还能够大大减少冈比亚的塑料垃圾)”推知,Ceesay回收运动既能帮助当地人增加收入同时对环境也有益。故选C。 【6题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词下文“During the rainy season, plastic waste became wet and difficult to take, and after that it still took patience to dry it before it could be processed.(在雨季,塑料垃圾变得潮湿,难以拿起,在那之后,它仍然需要耐心晾干才能进行处理)”可知,收集垃圾的工作变得困难了。由此猜测划线词意为“困难的”,与challenging意思相近。故选A。 【7题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段的“Of course, if one man’s house is clean but his neighbor’s is not, then the man is also not healthy.(当然,如果一个人的房子干净,而他的邻居的房子不干净,那么这个人也不健康)”推知,Ceesay认为处理塑料垃圾是社区居民共同的责任。故选D。 C As a child, there was nothing I liked better than Sunday afternoons at my grandfather’s farm in western Pennsylvania. Surrounded by miles of stone walls, the house and field provided endless hours of fun for a city kid like me. Since my first visit to the farm, I had wanted more than anything to be allowed to climb the stone walls surrounding the houses. My parents would never agree because the walls were so old that some stones were loose and falling. However, my idea to climb across those walls grew so strong that finally I had all my courage to enter the living room, where the adults had gathered after Sunday dinner. “I want to climb the stone walls.” I said. “Heavens, no! You’ll hurt yourself!” The response was just as I’d expected. But before I left the room, I was stopped by my grandfather’s loud voice. “Now hold on just a minute.” I heard him say. “Let the boy climb the stone walls. He has to learn to do things for himself.” “Go,” he said to me, “and come and see me when you get back.” For the next two and a half hours I climbed those old walls —and had the time of my life. Later I met with my grandfather to tell him about my adventures. I’ll never forget what he said. “Fred,” he said, smiling, “you made this day a special day just by being yourself. Always remember, there’s only one person in this whole world like you, and I like you exactly as you are.” Many years have passed since then, and today I host the television program Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, seen by millions of children throughout America. There have been changes over the years, but one thing remains the same: my message to children at the end of almost every visit. “There’s only one person in this whole world like you,” the kids will hear me say, “and people can like you exactly as you are.” 8. Why did the writer enjoy his visits to the farm? A. There were old stone houses. B. He was allowed to climb the walls. C. He missed his grandfather a lot. D. He could experience new fun there. 9. What can be inferred about the writer from the passage? A. He was backed up by his grandfather to follow his heart. B. He didn’t expect his parents’ disagreement on wall climbing. C. He became a TV program host with his grandfather’s help. D. He didn’t know the possible danger of the stone walls. 10. Which of the following can best describe the author’s grandfather? A. Open-minded. B. Adventurous. C. Kind-hearted. D. Dependable. 11. Which is probably the best title for the text? A. Unforgettable Childhood B. Just Be Yourself C. Do Whatever You Like D. Like grandfather, like grandson 【答案】8. D 9. A 10. A 11. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇夹叙夹议文。文章主要通过作者幼年的一件趣事,感悟到每个人都是独一无二的,要敢于做自己。 【8题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第一段“As a child, there was nothing I liked better than Sunday afternoons at my grandfather’s farm in western Pennsylvania. Surrounded by miles of stone walls, the house and field provided endless hours of fun for a city kid like me.(当我还是个孩子的时候,没有什么比在宾夕法尼亚州西部祖父的农场里度过周日下午更让我喜欢的了。房子和田地被绵延数英里的蜿蜒石墙环绕着,为像我这样的城市孩子提供了无尽的乐趣。)”可知,作者喜欢去农场是因为他可以在那里体验到新的乐趣。故选D项。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段““Fred,” he said, smiling, “you made this day a special day just by being yourself. Always remember, there’s only one person in this whole world like you, and I like you exactly as you are.””(“弗雷德,”他微笑着说,“你做了你自己,使今天成为一个特别的日子。永远记住,这个世界上只有一个人喜欢你,我喜欢真实的你。”)”可知,作者的祖父支持他遵从自己的内心。故选A项。 根据文章第三段“But before I left the room, I was stopped by my grandfather’s loud voice. “Now hold on just a minute.” I heard him say. “Let the boy climb the stone walls. He has to learn to do things for himself.” (但在我离开房间之前,我被祖父的大声声音拦住了。“现在请稍等一下。”我听见他说,“让孩子爬石墙吧。他必须学会自己做事情。”)”可推知,祖父赞成孩子学会自己做事,所以祖父是一个非常开明的人。故选A项。 根据文章最后一句““There’s only one person in this whole world like you,” the kids will hear me say, “and people can like you exactly as you are.” (“这个世界上只有一个人和你一样,”孩子们会听到我说,“人们会喜欢你本来的样子。”)”以及结合作者与祖父之间的故事可知,本文主要围绕着“敢于做自己”这一主题展开,故C项“Just Be Yourself.(做你自己)”概括全文,最合适作为文章的标题。故选B项。 D Young soldiers, far away from home and missing their families, discover a bear cub. That’s how the story of Wojtek begins, back in 1942. He was alone in the mountains of Iran; nobody knows how he got there. When the exhausted Polish soldiers came upon Wojtek, they were immediately struck with emotions. They had been away from their loved ones for a long time. They needed something to pick their spirits up. So, they nursed the baby bear with milk from a bottle and named him Wojtek, which means: a warrior to whom fighting brings joy. Wojtek was officially adopted into the army. He traveled with the army to the Middle East, providing comradery and entertainment. He would wrestle with the men, chase after oranges they cast for him and follow them about like a puppy. He became their connection to humanity in a time when the light of peace seemed so far away. And, like a child, he was also playful. In the desert heat, he learned how to break into the showers and turn on the water. He could also be seen pulling trunks of empty gun shells with the men or standing at attention in formation. Wojtek was also the chief frightener of new members: He would literally bear hug them and hold them upside down for a good laugh. Getting through the hardship of war takes something extraordinary, something unexpectedly dangerous to preserve your mental state. That’s what Wojtek did for the men who had been so long in the fog and uncertainty of World War II. A playful bear became the symbol of strength and adaptability. Thankfully, wars ended but Wojtek was not forgotten. He was shipped with a group of men to a farm in Scotland, which was a fitting place to retire for a bear with so much military experience. Wojtek was a local celebrity. Stories of him kicking a soccer ball, attending local dances and parties, and enjoying jam and honey are still told today. And to everyone who knew him, Wojtek was the one that made a difficult time a little more bearable. 12. How did the Polish soldiers react after they found the bear? A. They were hit by the bear. B. They accepted him and fed him. C. They called Wojtek names. D. They brought joy to him like warriors. 13. What did Wojtek do in the army? A. He would run after and eat up the oranges thrown by the soldiers. B. He could pull branches with the soldiers to the army camp. C. He would stand and listen attentively for information. D. He would play tricks on those newly-joined soldiers. 14. What happened to Wojtek after World War II? A. He became famous and brought joy to the locals in a farm in Scotland. B. He settled down with the Polish army in a farm in Scotland. C. He enjoyed his life in another army in a farm in Scotland. D. He was shipped to his hometown with the help of the Polish soldiers. 15. What is the best title of the passage? A. Wojtek: The Wild Warrior in the Desert Storm B. Wojtek: From the Frontlines to a Hairy Friend C. A Lifelong Bear Friend with the Scottish Locals D. Bearing Witness: The Remarkable Tale of the Polish Army 【答案】12. B 13. D 14. A 15. 根据第二段中“So, they nursed the baby bear with milk from a bottle and named him Wojtek, which means: a warrior to whom fighting brings joy. (于是,他们用奶瓶里的奶喂养了这只小熊,并给它起名叫Wojtek,意思是‘一个以战斗为乐的战士’)”可知,波兰士兵发现小熊后,接受了它并开始喂养它。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中“Wojtek was also the chief frightener of new members: He would literally bear hug them and hold them upside down for a good laugh.(Wojtek也是新成员最害怕的人:他真的会拥抱他们,并把他们倒立起来,让他们开怀大笑。)” 根据最后一段中“Wojtek was a local celebrity. Stories of him kicking a soccer ball, attending local dances and parties, and enjoying jam and honey are still told today. And to everyone who knew him, Wojtek was the one that made a difficult time a little more bearable. (Wojtek是当地的名人。他踢足球、参加当地舞会和派对、享用果酱和蜂蜜的故事至今仍在流传。对于所有认识他的人来说,Wojtek让那个艰难的时刻变得更容易忍受)”可知,二战结束后,Wojtek在当地非常有名,给苏格兰一个当地农场的人们带来了欢乐。故选A。 通读全文,尤其是第一段中“Young soldiers, far away from home and missing their families, discover a bear cub. That’s how the story of Wojtek begins, back in 1942. (远离家乡、想念家人的年轻士兵发现了一只小熊。1942 年,Wojtek的故事就这样开始了。)”和最后一段中“ He was shipped with a group of men to a farm in Scotland, which was a fitting place to retire for a bear with so much military experience. Wojtek was a local celebrity. Stories of him kicking a soccer ball, attending local dances and parties, and enjoying jam and honey are still told today. And to everyone who knew him, Wojtek was the one that made a difficult time a little more bearable.(他和一群人一起被运到苏格兰的一个农场,对于一只有这么多军事经验的熊来说,那里是一个适合退休的地方。 Some Winter Activities Winter activities are underestimated (低估). B Isatou Ceesay was born in 1972 in a small village in Gambia Africa. As a teenager, Ceesay was forced to drop out of school because of poverty. D Dealing with plastic waste is a shared responsibility in communities. C As a child, there was nothing I liked better than Sunday afternoons at my grandfather’s farm in western Pennsylvania. 9 What can be inferred about the writer from the passage? A. He was backed up by his grandfather to follow his heart. B. 14 What happened to Wojtek after World War II? A. He became famous and brought joy to the locals in a farm in Scotland. B. He settled down with the Polish army in a farm in Scotland. C. He enjoyed his life in another army in a farm in Scotland. D. He was shipped to his hometown with the help of the Polish soldiers. 15.
