Xidi village Located in Huangshan in the eastern province of Anhui, Xidi is an ancient village dating back 970 years. It was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000 and is famous for its historical architecture including a memorial archway (牌楼) and ancestral temples and its Huizhou culture. Yucun village Yucun sits in Anji in the eastern province of Zhejiang, which has transformed from a polluted village into a tourism destination surrounded by clear water and green mountains thanks to the local authorities and residents’ great efforts. Huangling village Located in Wuyuan, Jiangxi Province, Huangling is an ancient village built on a hillside at an altitude of about 1,260 meters. The village has a history dating back 600 years and is known for the tradition of air-drying agricultural products with bamboo-woven trays. Zhagana village Zhagana, meaning“stone box” in the Tibetan language, sits at an altitude of 3,500 meters in the Gannan Tibetan autonomous prefecture of Gansu Province. With steep mountains, forests, lakes and grasslands, there are also stone walls that shape the village into a “stone palace”. Jingzhu village Located in Chongqing, Jingzhu is rich in natural resources including forests, grasslands and valleys. The strong cultural vibes (氛围) and folk activities, such as shadow puppets, wax printing and bamboo weaving, make the village a popular tourist destination. Xiajiang village This village lies in a mountainous area in Chun’an County, Zhejiang Province, with a history dating back about 800 years. It has earned a striking spot for its unspoiled natural beauty and a unique cultural heritage that spans from traditional folk culture to historical “red culture”. 1. Where can you enjoy old temples and special local culture? A. Xidi village. B. Huangling village. C. Zhagana village. D. Jingzhu village. 2 What can you see in Zhagana village? A. Bamboo weaving. B. The highest mountain. C. Special stone buildings. D. Various agriculture products. 3. What do Yucun village and Xiajiang village have in common? A. They have a history of nearly 1,000 years. B. They are located in the same province. C. They used to be seriously polluted. D. They were built by local residents. B The first time I realized that I had a love for sports competitions was during the Field Day in primary school. Small for my age, and more of a book-lover than a sports-lover, I had suffered that special humiliation of being picked last for various gym teams. The Field Day, which focused on individual (个体的) skills, however, was different. In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch. When fall came, our backyard football games began with passing practice. Once I got to seventh grade and went to middle school, our entire student body was assigned to either the Red or the White team. Throughout the year, we competed against each other in various games and exercises for points. I eventually became president of The Committee of Games, speeding up my competitive fever. I also played on the field hockey team and the basketball team. And at home, playing tennis, skating, skiing and biking were simply normal things we did. As I attended college, my roommate and I even took up the habit of completing Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) exercises every day, a practice that continued into my marriage, when we had no spare money to use to join a gym. So, though, it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation (基础) developed in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered necessary even on vacation. I still love reading and the arts, too. As far as I’m concerned, life is the richest with my feet in both worlds. 4 What does the underlined word “humiliation” mean in paragraph 1? A. Shame. B. Regret. C. Glory. D. Responsibility. 5. In the author’s view, what led to her victory in the Softball Throw event? A. Her confidence in her sports skills. B. The sports talent from her father. C. Her advanced sports gloves and hats. D. The training offered by her father. 6. What happened after the author stepped into adulthood? A. She continued her passion for sports. B. She preferred reading to working out. C. She regularly exercised on weekends. D. She joined Royal Canadian Air Force. 7. What is the author’s purpose of writing the article? A. To show her father’s guidance on sports. B. To express her love for sports and fitness. C. To stress the benefits of physical exercise. D. To share her childhood memories about sports. C Whenever visiting a museum, in addition to appreciating the wisdom in these historical books, Song Jing also focuses on how they are bound (装帧) and presented. This “book doctor” has been working in the restoration (修复) department for ancient books for eight years. After finishing studies course at Peking University in 2015, she has been worked in restoring more than 100 ancient cultural relics. At the moment, Song is working on restoring a copy of Yongle Dadian, an encyclopedia created in 1408 in the Ming Dynasty. Accepting the challenge, Song and her colleagues spent six months researching and deciding on how to repair the books. “Most books from Yongle Dadian have suffered damage to their original binding,” Song said. “To restore them to their original form, we need to gather information from various sources,” she explained. In the past, restorers had to rely on their experience to choose the suitable materials to use. As technology has improved, they can use a new method through microscopes. However, technology can only help so much, as restoration still needs necessary hand-on skills, including cutting and brushing paper and binding. The restoration also requires strong control when brushing the paper. “If the pressure is not controlled well during the brushing process, the paper may tear, but if the touch is too light, the paper won’t stay,” Song explained. Because of the tough and complex process, the ancient books restoration technique of the national library was listed as a national-level intangible cultural heritage in 2008. “I am glad that I can be of some help in inspiring more young people to find their lifelong love in the field of cultural heritage preservation,” said Song. 8. What does Song Jing do as a “book doctor”? A. Repairs old books. B. Writes historical books. C. Appreciates cultural heritage. D. Collects information about historical events. 9. What can we learn about Yongle Dadian from paragraph 2? A. It is not in good shape. B. It is a music book of Ming Dynasty. C. Its restoration work has been finished. D. It takes about six months to repair the books. 10. Which of the following words best describe Song Jing? A. Patient and outgoing. B. Devoted and skillful. C. Generous and curious. D. Smart and warm-hearted. 11. What does Song think of her job according to the last paragraph? A Tough. B. Boring. C. Well-paid. D. Meaningful. D When learning a foreign language, most people fall back on traditional ways: reading, writing, listening and repeating. But Brian Mathias’ research team found out that if you gesture(做手势) with your arms while studying, you can remember the vocabulary better, even months later. As Mathias describes, they had 22 German-speaking adults learn a total of 90 invented words over four days. While the test subjects first heard the new vocabulary, they were shown a video of a person making a gesture that matched the meaning of the word. When the word was repeated, the subjects performed the gesture themselves. Five months later, they were asked to translate the vocabulary they had learned into German. At the same time, they had equipment attached to their heads that sent weak distracting signals to their primary motor cortex(运动皮层) — the brain area that controls voluntary arm movements. Those who performed better on the task showed a higher level of activity in their motor cortex. The researchers concluded that the motor cortex contributed to the translation of the vocabulary learned with gestures. The effect did not occur when the subjects were only presented with matching pictures instead of gestures. Another research group led by Leipzig had young adults and eight-year-old children listen to new vocabulary for five days, paired with matching pictures or videos of gestures. After two months, the two methods were still equally effective. But after six months, the adults benefited more from the gestures than the pictures, while the children were helped equally by both. But it is not only the motor cortex itself that promotes learning. The meaning expressed by the gesture also figures in, “I think we underuse gesture in our classrooms,” Goldin-Meadow says. “Good teachers and good listeners use it, but not always in a systematic way. Others don’t necessarily bring it into the class — and it could be used more often and more effectively.” 12. What do we know according to Brian Mathias’ research? A. Those only presented with matching pictures performed better. B. The motor cortex had nothing to do with the vocabulary learning. C. The research concluded that gestures benefited vocabulary learning. D. 22 German-speaking adults and children were chosen as the test subjects. 13. Why was equipment attached to the subjects’ heads during Mathias’ test? A. To count words. B. To record emotion. C. To influence brain activity. D. To give clues to questions. 14. What does Leipzig’s research tell us about language learning? A. Adults and children are equally good learners. B. Pictures have little influence on language learning. C. Pictures are found more helpful than videos for children. D. Benefits of gestures are more obvious in adults in the long run. 15. What does the author suggest teachers do in the classroom? A. Make better use of gestures. B. Teach listening in a systematic way. C. Avoid traditional teaching approaches. D. Do some scientific researches on teaching. Mentally (精神上) strong people are able to deal with and recover from even the most terrible conditions. The whole night I had been dreaming and planning various things I wanted to do. After all, it was my 16th birthday! Yesterday, none of my family had shown any sign to indicate that they’ d remembered the fact that my birthday was only 24 hours away. They might have been planning a surprise for me! I raced downstairs. “Well, you’ re up early,” my dad said, his eyes fixed upon the newspaper. My mother, who was cooking breakfast, paid me no attention. “Have they forgotten about me?” I wondered. “No, they would never do that.” “Mama, I was wondering if you could cook me some pancakes,” I said in a cheerful tone. “Jessie, I am in a hurry today. I am afraid I don’t have time to make you pancakes,” my mother said. None of them seemed to be aware of my special day. At least for my sake, they could’ve given it some importance. And none of my brothers seemed to be interested in my birthday either. I felt a bit down. For months we had been planning events for my birthday — shopping, games, decorations and so much more— but now, they all seemed to have forgotten about my birthday. Lunch was boring, with nothing special cooked for my special day. Everyone sat talking about random (随意的) things, not once mentioning my birthday. Disappointed, I climbed up the stairs to my room and lay down in bed. Suddenly, Mom called out to me. I dashed (急奔) towards her, hoping to hear something cheerful. But my optimism (乐观) disappeared when she said, “Me, your dad and your brothers are attending a dinner. Since you woke up early, we thought you might need some sleep. If you feel hungry, there’s food in the fridge. Call if you need help. Bye, and be a good girl.” Paragraph 1: They all waved goodbye one by one, leaving me alone in the house. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: “Surprise!” a lot of voices called out. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 湛江市2024--2025学年度第一学期期末调研测试 高一英语 试卷共8页,卷面满分120分。 A Here are several Chinese locations named “Best Tourism Village” by the UNWTO. C 13. C 14. D 15. 根据第一段中的“But Brian Mathias’ research team found out that if you gesture(做手势) with your arms while studying, you can remember the vocabulary better, even months later. But after six months, the adults benefited more from the gestures than the pictures, while the children were helped equally by both.(两个月后,这两种方法仍然同样有效。但六个月后,成年人从手势中受益比图片更多,而孩子们则从两者中得到了同等的帮助。)”可知,从长远来看,手势学习的好处对成年人更明显。故选D。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的““I think we underuse gesture in our classrooms,” Goldin-Meadow says. “Good teachers and good listeners use it, but not always in a systematic way. Others don’t necessarily bring it into the class — and it could be used more often and more effectively.”(戈尔丁-梅多说:“我认为我们在课堂上没有充分利用手势。好的老师和好的听众会使用它,但并不总是系统地使用。其他人不一定会把它带到课堂上,但它可以更经常、更有效地使用。”)”可推测出,作者建议老师更充分地使用手势。故选A。 Mentally (精神上) strong people are able to deal with and recover from even the most terrible conditions. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 They all waved goodbye one by one, leaving me alone in the house. I ran to my room and closed the door, crying myself to sleep. Suddenly, I heard something. I observed my surroundings, but there was nothing unusual in my bedroom. I jumped out of my bed, sure that someone was there in the house. “I…I’ve already called the police. You can’t escape!” I shouted. I knew that my threat sounded useless and worthless, but I had to give it a try. With all my courage, I opened the door. “Surprise!” a lot of voices called out. Trying to find out what was happening, I looked around. All my friends, my parents and my brothers came inside the room, holding my birthday cake. I felt so overwhelmed and began to cry. “Oh, I thought you all had forgotten, “I said, fighting back tears. “Not as long as I am alive,” came the voice of a lady. Someone was standing at the door — it was my grandmother! I rushed to her and gave her a hug. That was the best birthday of my life! 词汇激活 行为类 ①急忙:rush to/hurry to ②查明:find out /figure out ③确信:sure/ensure 情绪类 ①哭泣:cry/shed tears ②无价值:worthless/ valueless 【点睛】[高分句型1] I knew that my threat sounded useless and worthless, but I had to give it a try.
