Dylan was always told dancing was a girl’s sport and he shouldn’t dance, but his dream was to be a dance star. He practiced whenever he could. But without his parents’ support, his dream seemed impossible.
His little sister, Emily, took dance lessons. Dylan volunteered to take her to the lessons. He was hoping to learn some dancing skills secretly.
He loved Saturdays because his parents were out and he could dance all day. He nearly had a heart attack when someone knocked on his door one day.
“Just a minute!” he called.
“Dylan, it’s me, and you’re safe. I need your help‚” Emily said.
“Can I? How long have you known that?”
“Since you started watching me on the weekends. It’s why I wanted lessons. En Pointe auditions (选拔赛) are next month, but Mrs. Gail doesn’t think I’m ready. Can you dance with me for the audition? None of the boys in my class wanted to dance with me,” Emily said.
“We’ll show Mrs. Gail and those boys that they have been wrong.” Then they practiced all that day.
At dinner, Emily and Dylan smiled across the table. Their parents looked at them curiously, but were too tired to ask about their secret.
They practiced four nights a week and on Saturdays. Dylan enjoyed himself and Emily improved quickly.
A month later, their parents attended the audition. Dylan and Emily started. They moved with grace (优雅), smiling with pride. From the deep concentration (专注) of the crowd, Dylan was sure they achieved their expectations.
“Emily, I had my doubts, but no longer after watching you dance. Welcome to Pointe class!” Mrs. Gail said.
Dylan hung back after giving Emily a congratulatory hug; he wasn’t quite ready to face his parents just yet. When he saw his dad coming toward him, he took a deep breath.

At first sight, it seems to be Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer’s famous work Girl With a Pearl Earring. But look more closely and you may find something different about it. Wearing two shining earrings, there’s a little inhuman (异常的) shade of red on the girl’s face.
Look strange? It’s actually an image made by German designer Julian van Dieken using artificial intelligence (AI). Chosen from 3,482 images created based on the Vermeer masterpiece, the AI-generated (生成) work was shown at the Mauritshuis Museum in the Netherlands.
“One of the most famous paintings in history is being replaced by one of my AI images,” van Dieken wrote on Instagram. He said that the experience was “crazy” and “unreal”.
However, the AI image caused wide discussion. Though Mauritshuis press officer Boris de Munnick said that “it’s a nice picture and it’s a creative way of making it”, many people questioned whether it could be called art and be shown in the museum, reported AFP.
Dutch artist Iris Compiet described the image on display as “almost Frankenstein-ish”, AFP noted. She added that “it’s an insult to the works of Vermeer and also to any working artist. Coming from a museum, it’s a real slap (掌掴) in the face.”
In fact, this is not the first time people have discussed AI’s role in creativity. But the technology has now become widely used in daily life and the practice of using AI image generators to make art has become more common.
As Taylor Michael explained, one common concern is whether AI-generated works break copyright laws (版权法). “Some artists have heavily criticized AI tools for using potentially (潜在地) copyrighted works to create datasets, without artists’ agreement,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, the increase of such AI works in the market is believed by many to weaken the enthusiasm (热情) of artists who have spent years building up their creative skills, AFP noted.
28. What do we know about the image made by Julian van Dieken?
A. It is a perfect copy of Vermeer’s famous work.
B. It was made by combining 3,482 images together.
C. It’s the first AI work on display in a museum.
D. It has received different reviews from audiences.
29. What does the underlined word “insult” most probably mean?
A. protection B. disrespect
C. celebration D. improvement
30. According to the passage, what can be the influence brought by the development of AI-created works?
A. It can make traditional art forms less attractive.
B. It can increase the value of traditional artworks.
C. It can discourage artists who put in real effort.
D. It can help artists to develop their creativity.
31. What does the article mainly talk about?
A. The different opinions about AI artworks.
B. The potential problems with AI artworks.
C. The future of AI works on the art market.
D. The effects of AI works on the art market.

四、阅读表达(共 10 分,第 32-34 小题,每小题 2 分, 第 35 小题 4 分)
阅读短文,根据短文内容回答问题。
During my childhood, I didn’t have much interest in reading. However, when I entered middle school, I began listening to audiobooks and grew to love it. Now, I can finish a couple of audiobooks each month.
While reading a printed book allows more freedom to re-read paragraphs that we didn’t quite catch, go back to look something up from earlier in the book or even write down some notes in the margin (页边空白), audiobooks have their own benefits. They are enjoyable and convenient for both kids and adults. Besides, we can multitask (同时做多件事) while listening and get through books faster.
I often listen to audiobooks before reading paper ones in order to better understand some difficult parts. Listening is necessary for all kinds of learning, including reading. I can now enjoy longer books that I might not have had the patience to read, and my ability to focus on audiobooks carries over to my skill in focusing on a written text.
To me, the coolest thing about audiobooks is the role of the narrator (朗读者). It can be very pleasing when the narrators are skilled. I like the sense of reading with someone who understands and loves the material.
It’s true that sometimes it’s not so convenient because we need to have a technological device (设备) like a cellphone, an iPad or a laptop, where we can store and listen to audiobooks. Besides, we also need to have access to the Internet to download audiobooks or surf audiobooks websites online.
However, audiobooks still have become a big part of my life and have even changed my life. They make reading fun by bringing stories to life through skilled narrators and discussing audiobooks with family and friends adds a joyful richness to my everyday moments.
32. When did the writer begin listening to audiobooks?

八、阅读理解。(共 10 分,每小题 2.5 分)
阅读下短文,根据短文内容,从短文后各题所给的 A、B、C、D 四个选项中,选择最佳选项。
Phones and computers are all useful tools, and we may feel more productive when we use them. However, when we spend hours on digital devices (电子设备), our overall productivity decreases. Why?
Many digital activities need high levels of concentration (专注). When we text or email someone, for example, or even play games, we have to focus. When we do this, our brain uses energy. Too much energy consumption can result in stress. What is the best cure for our over-stressed minds? David Strayer, a cognitive psychologist (认知心理学家) at the University of Utah says the answer is simple: Spend some time in nature.
Strayer and other scientists are studying nature’s effect on our brains and bodies. When we are in natural environments, the prefrontal cortex (前额皮质) (the brain’s control center) relaxes. Studies show that when people can see trees and grass, they are calmer and do better in school. Indeed, people even relax when they look at photos of nature. As a result, they do better on different cognitive tasks.
Other psychologists are also studying “nature therapy ( 疗法 ).” In a study at Chiba University in Japan, 84 people went for a 15-minute walk in seven different forests. The same number of people walked around different city centers. Researchers then took blood from each person. The forest walkers had a 16 percent decrease in the stress hormone cortisol (应激激素皮质醇). In addition, they had a 2 percent drop in blood pressure and a 4 percent drop in heart rate. All did better than the city walkers. Lead researcher Yoshifumi Miyazaki has an explanation for these results. Our bodies relax in pleasant, natural surroundings, he says. Humans evolved (进化) in that environment, not in places with tall buildings and lots of traffic.
Psychologist Stephen Kaplan and his team members have done similar research. In one study, people took a 50-minute walk in a public garden. In a test afterwards, their short-term memory improved. When the same people walked on a city street, it did not.
Kaplan says it is the visual details in nature like sunsets, streams, butterflies that reduce stress and mental tiredness. We enjoy them without having to concentrate on them. This allows our brains to rest and recover from the stresses of modern life. “Imagine a therapy that was readily available, and could improve your cognitive functioning at zero cost,” Kaplan says. “It exists. It’s called ‘interacting with nature’.”
51. Which of the following best shows the main idea of this passage?
A. Long working hours cause rising level of stress.
B. Spending time in nature can reduce mental stress.
C. More people are exploring their natural neighborhood.
D. For a better life, people should use digital devices less.
52. Which of the following is NOT a possible benefit of seeing nature?
A. Better school performance. B. improved cognitive ability.
C. Faster reaction speed. D. feelings of calm and relaxation.
53. Which of the following is right according to the passage?
A. In natural environments, the prefrontal cortex will get stressed.
B. Digital activities make our life more productive and interesting.
C. The visual details in nature give our minds time to rest and recover.
D. City walkers had a decreased blood pressure and a faster heart rate.
54. What is the purpose of this passage?
A. To explain how humans evolved in the natural environment.
B. To show how digital devices can make our life more productive.
C. To introduce researches on the study of nature’s effects on our brain.
D. To encourage people to relax mind by spending more time in nature.

Modern Cinderella
Once upon a time—the time being the other night—the Prince was as excited as a gamer with the new highest score. He had just danced with an amazing young woman during the taping of his weekly TV show, Dancing with the Prince. He had only agreed to do the show to help his mother, the Queen, raise money for charity. But when he twirled (旋转) this lovely dancer, he found himself floating on a cloud.
However, the young woman’s cell phone rang as the music stopped at midnight, and she rushed from the palace. All she left behind was a purple sneaker (运动鞋).
The Prince fell into despair (绝望). “I must find her again,” he cried, “for tomorrow night’s final show!” Seeing the Prince’s tears, the Queen advised “He who gets the right sources (来源) will surely succeed.” After much consideration, the Prince made a plan. First, he interviewed everyone who had attended the show, but no one knew. Next, he searched the internet but found no one after entering “great dancer with purple shoe”. Then, he put up posters of the purple sneaker all over the kingdom’s social network. Yet no one recognized the shoe or knew its owner.
“I will continue my search,” he cried, holding the sneaker and his computer compass (指南针). “Even if I must personally travel the entire kingdom.” With that, the Prince powered up his electric skateboard and set out!
At the first house, a woman came out to greet the Prince. The excited woman struggled to jam her large foot into the shoe, but it was too small. At the next house, another woman eagerly tried on the sneaker. The shoe flopped (掉落) and fell off. At every home the Prince visited, the purple sneaker seemed as big as a boat or as small as a seed. No foot met his expectations.
As the day wore on, the Prince grew sadder. His discouraged heart was like a cell phone in need of recharging. Finally, there was only one house left to visit. When the Prince arrived, three sisters stood in front, offering their feet. The shoe fit none of them.
“Does anyone else live here?” the Prince asked. From inside the house came a chime (铃声). A young woman stepped outside and handed a phone to the oldest sister.
The Prince quickly held out the sneaker and requested (请求), “Please try this on.” She did, and it fit her foot perfectly!
“You’re my missing dancer!” the Prince cried. “Will you be my dance partner forever?”
The young woman smiled and replied, “Thanks, but not right now. I’ll dance tomorrow, but I have many plans. First, I want to travel.”
The Prince begged, “Please, say yes! After all, this is a fairy tale, where anything can happen.”
“Sorry, Prince. You’ll just have to wait.”
“That’s cool,” the Prince sighed, “but at least tell me your name.”
“It’s Cinderella,” the woman replied. She wrote on a piece of paper. “Here’s my number. Let’s stay in touch. TTYLP.”
The Prince looked puzzled.
“It means Talk To You Later, Prince,” Cinderella explained.
55. What modern technologies did the Prince use to help find his missing dancer?
___________________________________________________________
56. How did the prince feel at the start, in the middle and at the end of the story?
___________________________________________________________
57. What do you think of Cinderella in this story? Give details to support your idea.
