There must be heavy rain soon, I said to myself. When I hurried into the classroom, the sky was covered by black clouds. I felt quite uncomfortable, though it was calm without any wind. I saw the leaves of trees and grass remain still, which seemed to await something to happen. Several minutes later I saw the lightning split the clouds and heard the thunder following. Suddenly the heavy rain fell and the wind blew. Soon the grass was flattened under the wind and the rain, with the rain forming like a fog, the sky became bright. I took a deep breath. I felt comfortable. The heavy rain lasted three hours and stopped when the class was over. The air was so fresh and the sky was so clear. I felt like a new man myself. A Here are some family-friendly hotels in England. From £165 per night Augill Castle Kirkby Stephen, Cumbria With the features of a castle but in miniature (小型的), Augill Castle appeals equally to children and adults, and you’d be hard-pressed to find a more family-friendly castle, with a tree house, playground and tennis court in its 15-acre grounds, and inside, a 12-seater cinema, not to mention the popular children’s cookery school. From £180 per night Slaley Hall Hexham, Northumberland This country hotel, wrapped in woodland and golf courses, is modern in feel. Which hotel provides cooking classes for children? A. Slaley Hall. B. Augill Castle. C. Rockli ffe Hall. D. Another Place, The Lake. 22. Where can you find a hotel that costs under £150 per night? A. Both feature themed play areas for kids. C. Both arrange tea parties for their guests. D. Both set aside specific times for children. B 22. C 23. 由Augill Castle部分中的“With the features of a castle but in miniature(小型的), Augill Castle appeals equally to children and adults, and you’d be hard- pressed to find a more family- friendly castle, with a tree house, playground and tennis court in its 15- acre grounds, and inside, a 12- seater cinema, not to mention the popular children’s cookery school.(Augill Castle拥有城堡的特色,但却是微型的,它同样吸引着儿童和成人,你很难找到一个更适合家庭的城堡,在15英亩的土地上有一个树屋、游乐场和网球场,里面还有一个12座的电影院,更不用说受欢迎的儿童烹饪学校了)”可知,这个酒店为孩子们提供烹饪课程。 由Another Place, The Lake 部分中的“The 20- metre glass- fronted indoor pool has children’s swimming times. (这个20米长的玻璃幕墙室内游泳池有儿童游泳时间)”以及Rockliffe Hall部分中的“There are generous dedicated(专用的) times at the swimming pool for children. (游泳池为孩子们提供了慷慨的专用时间)”可知,这两个酒店都为孩子们提供特定的游泳时间。故选D项。 B My dad has watermelon-size muscles and enormous hands. He doesn’t seem like the kind of person who bakes great bread, but he does. Every Saturday he bakes silently by himself. The rest of the week, he’s a car mechanic whose job involves complex lifting, tightening, shaking and hitting. People tend to think of cars as metallic (金属的) members of the family, and Dad seldom lets them down. I kind of understand Dad’s baking routine. Though he’s into the work, customers’ expectation and heavy work weigh him down. When working on the dough (生面团), he returns to a life of ease. I had been feeling stressed out myself since I didn’t qualify for the swim team. I thought Dad had found that and he asked me to help and headed to the kitchen. Though I was surprised, I followed him. Dad took out his mixing bowl, telling me to mix ingredients while he added them. Then he showed me how to process the dough-repeatedly stretching, pounding and folding it. It took ten minutes and a surprising amount of energy to finish. But what came next was harder and more surprising — doing nothing. We put the dough back into the bowl. It took an hour to rise. Then we pressed and stretched it, put it into pans and waited another hour for it to double. “It’s hard to resist putting the dough directly into the oven, but if you do, the bread will be tough,” Dad explained. When the dough rose at its own pace, time seemed to slow down. We could do nothing to speed that. As I accepted that, I stopped watching the clock and started enjoying the time. My father taught me how to bake, but I learned something more — appreciate the slow pace of time and let the bread rise. 24. What can we learn about the author’s father? A. He is very talkative. B. He takes no interest in baking. C. He is expert at his work. D. He doesn’t like fixing cars. 25. Why does the author’s father make bread every Saturday? A. To get relaxed. B. To kill the time. C. To pursue his hobby. D. To learn a new skill. 26. What is the most difficult part during baking bread according to the author? A. Measuring ingredients. B. Waiting for the dough to rise. C. Processing the dough. D. Controlling the temperature of the oven. 27. What is a suitable title for the text? A. Secrets of Baking B. Influence of My Father C. A Bread Lesson D. A Surprising Leisure Time 【答案】24. C 25. A 26. B 27. 根据文章第一段“People tend to think of cars as metallic (金属的) members of the family, and Dad seldom lets them down.(人们往往把汽车当作家里的金属成员,而爸爸很少让他们失望)”可知,人们往往把汽车当作家里的金属成员,而爸爸很少让他们失望。 根据文章第二段“Though he’s into the work, customers’ expectation and heavy work weigh him down. When working on the dough (生面团), he returns to a life of ease.(虽然他热爱自己的工作,但顾客的期望和繁重的工作还是让他感到压力很大。而在处理生面团的时候,他又回到了轻松惬意的生活状态)”可知,虽然父亲热爱他的汽车修理工作,但顾客的期望和繁重的工作让他感到压力很大。而当他处理生面团时,他又回到了轻松惬意的生活状态。由此可知,父亲每周六烤面包是为了让自己放松,缓解工作带来的压力。故选A。 根据文章第四段“But what came next was harder and more surprising — doing nothing. We put the dough back into the bowl. It took an hour to rise. Then we pressed and stretched it, put it into pans and waited another hour for it to double. “It’s hard to resist putting the dough directly into the oven, but if you do, the bread will be tough,” Dad explained.(但接下来的事情更难,也更让人惊讶——什么都不做。 根据文章最后一段“My father taught me how to bake, but I learned something more — appreciate the slow pace of time and let the bread rise.(我爸爸教我如何烤面包,但我学到了更多的东西——要欣赏时间的缓慢节奏,让面包慢慢发酵)”以及全文内容可知,文章主要讲述了作者因为未入选游泳队而感到压力大,父亲邀请作者一起烤面包。 C。 C Climate change is reshaping the U.S., as journalist Jake Bittle explains in his new book, The Great Displacement: “Each passing year brings disasters that disfigure new parts of the United States, and these disasters alter the course of human lives, pushing people from one place to another, destroying old communities and forcing new ones to emerge.” The first section of Bittle’s book focuses on the Florida Keys. Bittle profiles Patrick Garvey, who bought a neglected grove (疏于打理的小树林) on Big Pine Key, and fixed it up into “a real community resource” that grew fruits rare in the continental U.S. Then came Hurricane Irma. Patrick and some friends decided to stay on the island during the storm, and ended up sheltering at a nearby school. They survived — a dozen people in the Keys didn’t — but the grove wasn’t as lucky. Patrick’s story is a heartbreaking one. Bittle strikes a pessimistic note about the future of the Keys’ ability to sustain human life. “Many of the islands in the archipelago (群岛), perhaps all of them, could go underwater altogether by the end of this century,” he writes. Some Keys residents decided to stay after Irma; others, unable to bear the thought of going through that kind of trauma again, left. In his book, Bittle covers the people whose lives have been altered by climate change with real sympathy. He takes a deep dive into the factors that go into people’s decisions to stay or to leave once their neighborhoods have been affected by climate change, explaining why economic inequality makes many people unable to relocate, even if it were easy for them to simply pack up and leave behind the places where they’ve spent their whole lives. He’s an empathetic writer, but also one with a real gift for explaining the tough issues — economic, scientific and political — that make the climate crisis and its effect on the population so complex. Climate change is affecting not only the U.S., but the whole world, and if you are itching for more on the situation, this book really is a must-read. 28. What does the underlined word alter mean in the first paragraph? A. Change. B. Better. C. Complete. D. Ruin. 29. Which of the following best describes Bittle’s attitude to the future of the islands? A. Neutral. B. Supportive. C. Skeptical. D. Negative. 30. What contributes to people’s decision to stay at the place? A. Their deep love for this place. B. Their great unwillingness in relocating. C. Their tough financial situation. D. Their being accustomed to the life there. 31. What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To show sympathy for the islanders. B. To recommend a book on climate change. C. To honor an environmentalist on climate change. D. To alert people to the tough situation of an island. A 29. D 30. C 31. 根据划线词前文“Each passing year brings disasters that disfigure new parts of the United States(每年都有新的灾难降临美国破坏了新的部分)”及后文“pushing people from one place to another, destroying old communities and forcing new ones to emerge.(把人们从一个地方推到另一个地方,摧毁旧的社区,迫使新的社区出现)”可知,每年都有新的灾难降临美国,改变人类生活的进程,划线词alter意思为:改变,与change意思相近。故选A。 根据文章第三段“Patrick’s story is a heartbreaking one. Bittle strikes a pessimistic note about the future of the Keys’ ability to sustain human life.(帕特里克的故事令人心碎。比特尔对礁岛未来维持人类生存的能力提出了悲观的看法)”可知,Bittle对于群岛未来的态度是悲观的,消极的。故选D。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章倒数第二段“He takes a deep dive into the factors that go into people’s decisions to stay or to leave once their neighborhoods have been affected by climate change, explaining why economic inequality makes many people unable to relocate, even if it were easy for them to simply pack up and leave behind the places where they’ve spent their whole lives.(他深入研究了一旦他们的社区受到气候变化的影响,人们决定留下或离开的因素,解释了为什么经济不平等导致许多人无法重新安置,即使他们很容易就能打包离开他们生活了一辈子的地方)”可知,导致人们决定留在原来地方的因素是他们财政方面遇到的困难。 根据文章最后一段“Climate change is affecting not only the U.S., but the whole world, and if you are itching for more on the situation, this book really is a must-read.(气候变化不仅影响着美国,而且影响着整个世界,如果你渴望了解更多关于气候变化的情况,这本书真的是一本必读的书)”可知,本文的目的是推荐一本关于气候变化的书。故选B。 D History is written, read, told — but rarely ever is it smelled. Historians and scientists across Europe have now gotten together with perfumers(调香师)and museums for a unique project: to reveal what Europe smelled like between the 16th and early 20th centuries. A European street today may smell like coffee, fresh-baked bread and cigarettes. But what did it smell like hundreds of years ago? As part of this three-year-long project called “Odeuropa”, the researchers want to find all the old scents(气味)of Europe — and even recreate some of this ancient smellscape: from the dry tobacco scents to the smelly canals. To do this, they will first build artificial intelligence (AI) that will be trained to go through historical texts, written in seven different languages, for any descriptions of scents. The AI will also be trained to detect images of objects in the texts that might be scented. The team will then use this information to create an online encyclopedia(百科全书)of smells from Europe’s past. The encyclopedia will include the meaning of certain scents and will trace the stories behind scents, places and related practices, according to project leader Angela Lee. “This database will become a library for the smell heritage of Europe, enabling future generations to access and learn about the scented past.” The encyclopedia will also include descriptions of people for whom smell was important. The researchers will then work with chemists and perfume makers to recreate past smells and figure out how to display the smells in museums and other historical sites. With current technology, almost every scent can be produced. “The more difficult part of the project will be to find descriptions of scents, because people haven’t always talked or written about them,” Lee said. Scent plays a central role in our everyday life, even acting as a powerful time machine into our own past with its ability to activate long-forgotten memories. But it’s also a key tool in telling the stories of others. “Scent gives us access to the past in a much more direct and emotional way than language and images,” Lee said. 32. Why did the researchers start the “Odeuropa” project? A To rebuild a historical European street. B. To make perfumes of traditional scents. C. To find and recreate the smells of Europe. D. To reproduce the scented past of Europe. 33. What will the AI do in the project? A. Collect smell-related data. B. Write interesting stories behind smells. C. Detect objects by smell. D. Describe smells in different languages. 34 Which of the following is the biggest challenge the project faces? A. Scents of the past are hard to keep. B. Records of scents are rarely found. C. Technology to reproduce scents is poor. D. Display of smells in museums costs a lot. 35. What is the last paragraph mainly about? A. The application of past scents. B. The effect of scents on memory. C. The role of scent in story-telling. D. The value of understanding scent. C 33. A 34. B 35. 根据第二段中“As part of this three-year-long project called ‘Odeuropa’, the researchers want to find all the old scents(气味)of Europe — and even recreate some of this ancient smellscape”(作为这个名为“Odeuropa”的三年期项目的一部分,研究人员希望找到欧洲所有古老的气味——甚至重现这种古老的气味景观)可知研究人员启动 “Odeuropa”项目是为了找到欧洲所有古老的气味,甚至重现这种古老的气味。 根据第三段中“To do this, they will first build artificial intelligence (AI) that will be trained to go through historical texts, written in seven different languages, for any descriptions of scents.”(为了做到这一点,他们将首先建立人工智能,并对其进行训练,以翻阅用七种不同语言编写的历史文本,寻找任何关于气味的描述。) 故选A项。 根据倒数第二段中“The more difficult part of the project will be to find descriptions of scents, because people haven’t always talked or written about them”(这个项目更困难的部分将是找到对气味的描述,因为人们并不总是谈论或书写它们。) 根据文章最后一段“Scent plays a central role in our everyday life, even acting as a powerful time machine into our own past with its ability to activate long-forgotten memories.”(气味是在我们的日常生活中起着核心作用,甚至作为一个强大的时间机器进入我们自己的过去,它有能力激活被遗忘的记忆。) Rising Above Fears: Tips to Overcome Our Fear All of us are afraid of something in life — starting a new job, getting into a relationship, or even a trip to the dentist. ____36____ Here are the necessary steps to follow which will help us overcome our fear . * Notice how we feel. We need to be able to talk about our emotions, no matter how hard it is. This is the first step that we can take to overcome our fears. ____37____ Do we experience trouble breathing, a sweaty body, or even a stomachache? We need to practice reading these physical cues, and we shouldn’t let them carry us away! * Breathe properly. When our fear kicks in, we often hear people say, “Take A Deep Breath”. ____38____ Whenever we engage in deep and mindful breathing it activates our parasympathetic nervous system which helps us relax. Mindfulness breathing can deactivate the body’s stress responses and help us calm down. *____39____ When we set our goals, what is the biggest fear that we will face? The fear of failure! It is very destructive but inevitable. We should only learn and grow from it. Actually, failure is a bigger motivator than success because it allows us to be better next time. Apparently, fear is unpleasant but it is carried in our genes. It means that our survival instincts are working as they should be. When we are able to manage our fears, we will end up being happy. Our careers will flourish. ____40____ A. Get rid of failure. B. Find acceptance in failure. C. This strategy actually works whether we believe it or not. D. Being afraid is totally okay but we must learn to overcome it. E. Mum had a hard time raising us kids on her own. My father had drowned (淹死) in Pitt Lake five years earlier. Because Dad had no pension (养老金,抚恤金) or benefits, there was not much money; we went on social assistance. Looking back, I realize what Mum went through sending us kids to school. Every morning she would put a new piece of cardboard in our shoes because our soles (鞋底) were worn out When we got home, Mum would have French toast ready for us. This was bread deep-fried in lard (猪油). Constant moving was typical for my family in those days, and it didn’t look like we’d be in our current house much longer. Rent was $25 a month, but Mum couldn’t pay it, and we knew we would be to iced out after Christmas. The holidays were fast approaching, and we were entitled to $25 for Christmas from social services. An unspector came to our house and searched it thoroughly so be sure we didn’t have any food hidden away. When he didn’t find any, he issued the cheque to Mum. Mum said that instead of buying food, she was going to use the money to pay our rent. That way we’d have a roof over our heads for a little while longer. Then she told us there would be no Christmas gifts. Unknown to Mum, I had been selling Christmas trees, shoveling (铲) snow and doing odd jobs to earn enough money to buy a new pair of boots — boots with no cardboard in the soles. They were ten-inch, Top-Genuine, and cost $23. The big day for getting my boots came on Christmas Eve afternoon. I was very excited as I hurried up the road to catch the bus into town. But on the way to the bus stop I noticed a big grocery store. It was then that I realized we had no Christmas decorations and no Christmas goodies. I also knew we would have no turkey or ham for Christmas dinner. I slowed my pace, feeling a sense of guilt. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The bus drove off without me, and I breathed a sigh of relief. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文 I slowed my pace, feeling a sense of guilt. How could I be so selfish when my family was in such a difficult situation? Mum was probably at home in tears, considering ways to celebrate Christmas. Thinking of this, the idea of buying the beautiful boots I had wanted for so long didn’t seem as appealing as before. As I reached the bus stop, the bus to town arrived soon. I stood there for what seemed like a century, until finally the driver asked, “Son, are you getting on the bus or not?” I finally burst out without hesitation, “No, thanks.” The bus drove off without me, and I breathed a sigh of relief. I went back to the grocery store. I spent every coin of my hard-earned money buying a turkey, ham and all the Christmas decorations. When I got home, Mum opened the door and saw me returning with a full load. Words seemed to fail to convey her emotions so that she embraced me tightly. That night, my family had a very good Christmas time. I received the most precious Christmas gift — my responsibility for my family. 词汇激活 行为类 ①到达:reach/get to ②返回:go back to/return to ③拥抱:embrace/hug 情绪类 ①流泪:in tears/with tears in one’s eyes ②过了一个非常愉快的圣诞节:have a very good Christmas time/have fun at Christmas/enjoy oneself at Christmas 【点睛】[高分句型1] As I reached the bus stop, the bus to town arrived soon.(由连词as引导的时间状语从句) [高分句型2] I stood there for what seemed like a century, until finally the driver asked, “Son, are you getting on the bus or not?”(由连词what引导宾语从句和until引导时间状语从句) [高分句型3 Words seemed to fail to convey her emotions so that she embraced me tightly.(so that引导结果状语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $这是南宁市2024年秋季学期教学质量调研高二年级英语科听力部分。 Hello, international friends club. I felt quite uncomfortable, so IT was calm without any wind. I saw the leaves of trees and grass remained still, which seemed to await something to happen. Several minutes later, I saw the lightning with the clouds and her, the thunder following. Suddenly the heavy rain fell and the wind blue. A Surprising Leisure Time C Climate change is reshaping the U.S., as journalist Jake Bittle explains in his new book, The Great Displacement: “Each passing year brings disasters that disfigure new parts of the United States, and these disasters alter the course of human lives, pushing people from one place to another, destroying old communities and forcing new ones to emerge.” The first section of Bittle’s book focuses on the Florida Keys. D History is written, read, told — but rarely ever is it smelled. A. To rebuild a historical European street. 34. Which of the following is the biggest challenge the project faces? Rising Above Fears: Tips to Overcome Our Fear All of us are afraid of something in life — starting a new job, getting into a relationship, or even a trip to the dentist. ____36____ Here are the necessary steps to follow which will help us overcome our fear . * Notice how we feel. We need to be able to talk about our emotions, no matter how hard it is. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
