I almost didn’t make it because I waited too long to get mine! Next, if you’re flying, make sure to buy your plane ticket early to save money. I found that booking early can really make a difference in the cost. Also, my another travel tip is to be sure you pack lightly. You will be taking that luggage around with you everywhere, and it gets heavy quickly! Lastly, I recommend you have a wonderful time by exploring the local culture, tasting new foods, and going to cool events like dance shows and street festivals. The food was delicious, and the festivals were full of color and excitement. If you follow these tips, I believe you’ll have a fun and smooth trip! Whether you’re traveling alone or with friends, these tips will help you make the most of your adventure.

The first day of high school felt like a big adventure, but also a bit terrible. I didn’t know how important studying would be, and I didn’t have any plans for what I wanted to do later in life.
My friend, Alex, saw that I wasn’t really into school. One day, after a boring science class, he talked to me. “You can do better,” he said seriously. “You just need to put in some effort.” His words made me think.
I started to focus more in class, trying to really understand what the teachers were saying. Alex and I would study together, and he would help me with the difficult parts. Gradually (逐渐地), things that I didn’t make sense before started to click.
One day, while we were working on a science problem, I had a moment of understanding. I realized that learning is not just about getting good marks; it’s about exploring new ideas and enjoying the challenge of solving problems. It was great to make things out.
As time went by, my grades got better, and so did my attitude towards school. I started to think about what I wanted to do when I grew up and made plans for college. I understood that high school was a chance to get ready for my dreams.
Now, I’m thankful for that moment when I realized how important learning is and for Alex’s help. It showed me that school is a place to discover what you love and to work towards your goals. I look forward to each day, knowing that every bit of learning brings me closer to becoming the person I want to be.

A new study has showed that throughout the UK, 29% of the British population says they feel lonely often or some of the time. Half of the British find it difficult to make friends, and we usually stop making friends around the age of 37. So in order to help fight loneliness, Metro Newspaper has shared the experience from Sarah Hamilton, which is easy to learn.
When Sarah Hamilton, a scientist, moved to Carlisle last year, she knew no one. Sarah found starting over made it hard to find her friends. But she decided to try parkrun, which gave her a community of her own and a great group of friends.
The mum-of-one understands how hard it is to make friends as an adult and she certainly didn’t find it easy at first. She was too nervous to speak to people at the start, so she was just watching what everybody was doing. During the run, she thought they were really speedy and she didn’t want to speak to them. But after the race they were hanging around, especially when the weather was lovely, and she sat with a coffee and ended up chatting with others. That’s kind of when all that interaction (互动) happened, and now she has a whole friend group.
Many of Sarah’s closest friends she’s met at parkrun don’t live in Carlisle — they pass through, but they’ve liaised, because they meet up often and have lots of common. She also has a big community of friends locally through the fitness events. They often go out for dinner or join in activities like swimming and boxing together.
Sarah’s tip for those who want to give parkrun a go is to go and watch their local parkrun first to see what it’s like. They can even be a volunteer first. She explains, “Volunteering first makes people know they can actually do this and it’s alright to just walk in the beginning. Parkrun has a designated (指定的) walker whose job is to be last, so you will never be last and they would walk with you if you want them to.”
28. What can we learn about Sarah from paragraph 2 and paragraph 3?
A. She enjoyed living by herself. B. She wanted to be a good runner.
C. She was good at making a group of friends. D. She struggled to get used to the new environment.
29. What does the underlined word “liaised” mean in paragraph 4?
A. Faced challenges. B. Made contact.
C. Shared feelings. D. Taken breaks.
30. Which statement will Sarah most probably agree with?
A. Volunteering makes people knowledgeable.
B. Parkrun will help you know yourself better.
C. Volunteering as a designated walker is necessary.
D. New parkrunners can start with being volunteers.
31. What’s the purpose of the passage?
A. To advise adults to join in fitness events.
B. To show the importance of social interaction.
C. To introduce how to make friends through sports.
D. To share all the activities Sarah joined in Carlisle.
【答案】28. D 29. B 30. D 31. C

Of the many colorful Romanian traditions that are brought to life every year, the Bear Dance is one of the most inspiring. This folk tradition dates back to thousands of years ago.
Traditionally, the arrival of the “bears” is announced by a small group of “irozi” who blow whistles to a rhythm (节奏) set by the head bear tamer (训兽师). Chosen for his leadership skills, the head tamer is the one who decides when each of the acts is played and gives the signs.
The “bears” dance to the beat set by the flutes and the drums. Wearing the special costumes (戏服) requires strength and confidence, with the heaviest of costumes weighing up to 50 kilos.
When the person wearing the costume is standing up straight, the “bear” looks up. During the dance, the wearer must move forward and shake his or her body to the left and to the right while taking small steps either to the front or to the side.
The Bear Dance symbolizes the death and rebirth of time. Performed between Christmas and New Year’s Eve, this ancient celebration brings together the whole community, who gather to watch the performance. The Bear Dance sees men of all ages, and increasingly more women, who are dressed in real bear skins and dance to the rhythm of flutes and drums to drive off evil spirits and ring in the new year.
By tradition, the group of the Bear Dance, which includes 6 to 24 “bears” would visit every family of the village, accompanied by up to three singing bear tamers, several characters wearing women’s clothes and drummers. While this tradition is still observed in many villages, in cities and towns it usually takes the form of a parade that ends with a major performance.

My Favourite Novel
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】My Favourite Novel
Of all the novels I read, I like A Dream of Red Mansions best. It describes a tragic love story of the two cousins, through which we witness the history of rise and fall of four big families. It covers various subjects ranging from medicine to architecture, making it one of the four classics in Chinese literature.
The reason why I like this novel is that it gives me an insight into life, which is full of ups and downs, sadness and happiness. As a teenager, I should cherish the present and look forward to the future. I think the book has its own brand new look in both ideological content and artistic skills and a permanent artistic charm worthy of inheritance.

67. 阅读下面短文,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整短文。
The first time we set eyes on “Big Red”, Dad, Mum and I were on our way home. As we passed the Eaton’s department store’s window, we stopped as usual to have a look and bought something that we wanted. The beautifully decorated window display held the best toys ever. Pretty toys all lay beneath a surprisingly fantastic dress. Mum’s eyes were glued to its shining red satin (缎子). “My goodness,” she whispered. “Look at that!” Then, Mum looked down at her own. Mum was forever doing chores, washing laundry and working in the garden. So she always wore house dresses and an apron (围裙) to protect the front.
“What a silly dress!” She shook her head. “Who would want such a big dress?” As we continued down the street, Mum turned her head for one more look. “My goodness! They should display something a person could use!”
Mother’s Day was nearing, and the red dress was soon forgotten. Mum was not the one to spend money on items that were not practical. Choosing a gift for Mother’s Day for her was quite hard. When Dad and I asked, she thought carefully, and then asked for some tea towels, facecloths or a new basin.
On our last trip to town before Mother’s Day, we were driving up Main Street when mother suddenly shouted in surprise: “Look!” She pointed as Dad drove past Eaton’s. “That big red dress is gone,” she said in disbelief. “Who’d be fool enough to buy such a dress?” Mum questioned, shaking her head. I was almost certain that I noticed a trace of eagerness in her voice.
“Why not earn the money myself for this stunning red dress?” I thought to myself. However, I was stuck — which shop would hire an 8-grade student who had no working experience at all? Feeling confused, I approached Dad for his opinion. Dad told me that “Believe in yourself, my sweetie, maybe you could give Eaton’s department store a try.”

Paragraph 2:
On the morning of Mother’s Day, Mum received a large box.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】With determination, I went to the store and asked if they needed a salesgirl. The manager, a kind middle-aged lady, looked at me doubtfully but then smiled warmly. “Well, we usually don’t hire such young girls, but I can see your enthusiasm. Let’s give it a try,” she said. I was overjoyed and promised to do my best. The days passed quickly, and I worked hard, learning about the products and helping customers. Every penny I earned was carefully saved for that stunning red dress. Finally, after weeks of hard work, I had enough money.
On the morning of Mother’s Day, Mum received a large box. She opened it with curiosity, and her eyes widened in surprise as she pulled out the beautiful red dress. “Oh my goodness, where did you get this?” she exclaimed. I stood there, smiling, and said, “I earned it for you, Mum. I wanted you to have something special for Mother’s Day.” She hugged me tightly, tears streaming down her face. “This is the best gift I’ve ever received,” she whispered. That day, Mum wore the red dress with pride, and we all felt the warmth and love that a simple dress could bring. It was a Mother’s Day we would never forget.

I want to share my summer adventure in mexico with you. IT was my first journey outside the united states, and IT was truly amazing. I picked up some really useful travel tips and had a fantastic time experiencing a new culture. The first and most important tip I learned was to get your passport ahead of time. I almost didn't make IT because I waited too long to get mine. Next, if you're flying, make sure to buy your plane ticket early to save money. I found that booking early can really make a difference in the cost. Also, my another travel tip is to be sure you pack, likely you will be taking that luggage around with you everywhere, and IT gets heavy quickly. Lastly, I recommend you have a wonderful time by expLoring the local culture, testing new foods. I'm going to cool events like dance shows and street festivals. The food was delicious and the festivals were full of color and excitement. If you follow these tips, I believe you'll have a fun and smooth trip whenever you're traveling alone or with friends.

C. Visiting an ideal college. D. Solving a science problem.
27. Which would be the best title for the text?

C. Discovering a New Learning Method D. Developing a Lifelong Friendship
C
C Shared feelings.

Of the many colorful Romanian traditions that are brought to life every year, the Bear Dance is one of the most inspiring. This folk tradition dates back to thousands of years ago.
Traditionally the arrival of the “bears” is announced by a small group of “irozi” who blow whistles to a rhythm (节奏) set by the head bear tamer (训兽师).
32. What do we know about the Bear Dance?
A. It is specially performed by bears. B. It is better celebrated in cities.
C. It is a tradition with a long history. D. It is a daily sport in Romania.
33. How does the Bear Dance begin?
A. Several characters beat drums. B. The bear tamer dances to a rhythm.
C. Some performers played the flutes. D. A group of members blow whistles.
34. Why do the locals hold the Bear Dance every year?
A. To welcome the arrival of the new year. B. To celebrate the positive part of life.
C. To call on people to protect wild animals. D. To provide themselves with a way to have fun.
35. Which part of a magazine is the text probably taken from?
A. Nature. B. Culture. C. Business. D. Environment.

第二节 (满分25分)
67. 阅读下面短文,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Who would want such a big dress?” As we continued down the street Mum turned her head for one more look.
