Often built by community members, they could be found on street corners and the sidewalks across the United States, hoping to share their book collections with their neighbors. Minneapolis, Minnesota, even hosted the first Little Free Library Festival, where book fans came together to promote literacy (读写能力)in their communities. For the most part, little free libraries have more in common with book sharing shelves in hotels, local parks, coffee shops and other public spaces than the traditional public library. Based on the rule of "take a book, leave a book," these little libraries can take many forms from birdhouse-like wooden structures to redesigned newspaper selling machines, Robert Wirsing writes for the Bronx Times. The little free library organization began when a citizen of Hudson, Wisconsin, named Todd Bol built a little one-room schoolhouse, filled it with books and placed it in his front yard to honor his mother who passed away in 2009. Together with a local educator named Rick Brooks, the two began placing little free libraries across Wisconsin and sharing the idea with people across the country. "Something we are eager for in this information age is that connection between people," Bol tells Margret Aldrich for Book Riot. "I want to show how Little Free Library is about readers inspiring readers. It goes on and on." While Little Free Libraries seem like a harmless means to promote literacy by sharing books with neighbors, a few of the roadside landing libraries have caused minor legal problems. officials in Los Angeles and Shreveport, Louisiana, have told some citizens that their homemade libraries broke city roles and that they would have to remove them to avoid being fined. Still, little free libraries have been well accepted by their commnunities. For anyone interested in making their own at home, the organization has posted helpful tips and guides for building the little book lending boxes in their neighborhoods. 24. What can we know about the little free libraries in America? A. They are state-owned. B. They are popular nationally. C. They are set up to sell books. D. They help those with no books to read. 25. What is a common character of little free libraries? A. They lie in many public places. B. They share a large collection of books. C. They compete with traditional public libraries. D. They exist mainly in the form of wooden houses. 26. What is Todd Bol's primary aim of building a library? A. To remember his dead mother. B. To help people form a habit of reading. C To set an example to other communities. D. To share his knowledge, with other citizens. 27. What does Todd Bol think of the little free libraries? A. They cause minor legal problems. B. They should continue to exist. C. They mean a lot to community members. D. They should be supported by the government. 24. B 25. A 26. A 27. However, by the late Qing Dynasty they had been abandoned and nearly forgotten and many of the caves had become damaged by the elements. Around 1900, with the discovery of a library of thousands of ancient documents, the caves received new interest from Chinese and foreign researchers. Unfortunately, this resulted in tens of thousands of items from the caves being taken to foreign museums. In the 1940s, many researchers and artists visited the area to study traditional Chinese art. Copies of some of the artwork painted by respected artists such as Zhang Daqian and GuanShanyue helped people all over the country learn about Dunhuang. These artists were also inspired by the artwork they saw in the caves and it began to influence their painting styles. Others. Stayed in the desert for much longer. Chang Shuhong stayed for the rest of his life struggling to record the cultural treasures and protect them from the weather. As a result of their efforts, the Dunhuang Academy was formed to protect and study the Mogao Grottoes. In 1987, the Mogao Grottoes were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site While the caves are open to the public, access is now limited in order to protect the artwork. However, the caves can be seen online in digital form so that people around the world can study and enjoy them. Despite its remoteness (偏僻), the Mogao Grottoes continue to draw visitors. And just as the sand and desert have survived largely unchanged through the centuries, this small art gallery in the desert has also survived largely unchanged providing an amazing look at a world long ago past. 28. Around the beginning of the 20th century. 29. What is the author’s purpose in mentioning the artists in the 1940s? A. To learn about their works. B. To appreciate their contributions. C. To compare their different styles. D. To show how hard they worked. 30. How can people appreciate the artwork without access to the caves? A. By enjoying the digital versions. B. If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain? Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how. In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know whether the Internet is changing memory. In the first experiment, they gave people 40 unimportant facts to type into a computer. The first group of people understood that the computer would save the information. The second group understood that the computer would not save it. Later, the second group remembered the information better. People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it. In another experiment, the researchers gave people facts to remember, and told them where to find the information on the Internet. The information was in a specific computer folder(文件夹). Surprisingly, people later remember the folder location better than the facts. When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it. This is called “transactive memory(交互记忆)”. According to Sparrow, we are not becoming people with poor memories as a result of the Internet. Instead, computer users are developing stronger transactive memories; that is, people are learning how to organize huge quantities of information so that they are able to access it at a later date. This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing. 32. The purpose of two questions in the beginning is to ________. A. introduce the main topic B. show the author’s attitude C. describe how to use the Internet D. explain how to store information 33. Which of the following statements is true? A. The second group did not understand the information. B. The first group did not try to remember the information. C. Sparrow’s team typed the information into a computer. D. The two groups remembered the information equally well. 34. In transactive memory, people __________. A. remember the information better B. change the quantity of information C. organize information like a computer D. remember how to find the information 35. How does the Internet affect our memory according to Sparrow’s research? A. It reduces our memory. B. It makes us more intelligent. C. It causes us to use memory differently. D. It changes the way we access information. A 33. B 34. D 35. 根据第一段的最后一句“Experts are wondering if the Internet is changing what we remember and how.(专家们想知道互联网是否正在改变我们的记忆,以及如何改变。)”以及第二段的“In a recent study, Professor Betsy Sparrow conducted some experiments. She and her research team wanted to know whether the Internet is changing memory.(在最近的一项研究中,Betsy Sparrow教授进行了一些实验。她和她的研究小组想知道互联网是否正在改变记忆。)”可知,在第一段里提出两个问题是为了引出下文的内容,即专家想知道互联网是否在改变我们的记忆以及如何改变的,为此他们进行了一些实验,故此处的目的在于引出话题。故选A项。 根据第二段的“People in the first group knew they could find the information again, so they did not try to remember it.(第一组的人知道他们可以再次找到信息,所以他们没有试图记住它。)” 根据文章第三段的“When people use the Internet, they do not remember the information. Rather, they remember how to find it.This is called “transactive memory(交互记忆)”(当人们使用互联网时,他们不会记住信息。相反,他们记得如何找到它。这被称为“交互记忆”。).”可知,人们之所以不去记住信息是因为他们知道如何再次找到这个信息,也就是说在交互记忆中人们记住怎么找到信息。故选D项。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段的“This doesn’t mean we are becoming either more or less intelligent, but there is no doubt that the way we use memory is changing.(这并不意味着我们变得更聪明或更不聪明,但毫无疑问,我们使用记忆的方式正在发生变化。)” How to Make Sure You Enjoy Your Trip A trip is a planned destination where one arranges in advance in which the main purpose is to search for adventure and to create a memorable moment. ___36___ • Plan it well. Here are the steps on how to make sure your trip is enjoyable.( 以下是如何确保你的旅行愉快的步骤。) 【38题详解】 空前一句提到“Pack only the things you need.只带你需要的东西”;选项F意思为:如果你的包裹里装的东西太多,很容易累。选项F是顺承空前一句的话题,其中“too many things”和空前一句的“only the things you need”相呼应。 下文“You may see delays, a different culture, lifestyle, food, and even a shortage of cash sometimes”提到旅行中可能会遇到各种问题,由“experiencing things with a new perspective. Once you expect to experience new things, you’ll be a happy traveler and free from stress. ” 可知,作者建议用新的视角去体验,你就会成为一个快乐的、没有压力的旅行者。因此推断本段主要讲述“带着开放的心态去旅行。”相符。故选A。 My father brought home a sailboat when I was ten, and almost each Sunday in summers we would go sailing. As a girl of shy and reserved nature, I had to take a fresh start to fit into the sophisticated city life. One sunny day, my school announced an exciting event, a talent show for the local food bank. Students were encouraged to showcase their unique talents in front of the public in the city hall on National Day. A buzz of excitement fed the school as everyone began preparing for the big day. Deep down, I felt a spark of curiosity and a desire to participate. However, my self-doubt held me back, “I don’t have any special skills to share.” Days turned into weeks, and the talent show drew closer. I couldn’t shake the upsetting feeling until one day, Emma, one of the most popular girls in my class, came to me while I was helping in the grocery store after class. “How about singing together in the talent show?” She grinned, “I heard you singing a tune, along the way back home. I can’t help following you here.” Gosh, I couldn’t believe my ears. Emma, with personality and popularity, acknowledged my little talent. Since Emma had the world’s prettiest voice, I felt like being favoured by fortune. “You two? The talent show for the food bank?” My mum bent towards us and her face lit up. “A big occasion.” Then a light bulb seemed to go in her head. “Why not practise right now upstairs? I bet you’ll be a perfect match.” Winking at us, she seemed to know we were thinking alike. Emma and I embarked on rehearsing almost every single day after school. We brainstormed, exchanged ideas and rehearsed the scene. As the days rolled by, I was feeling pretty good about our act. But the day before the performance, Emma called that she had an acute stomachache and was not in any shape to perform. Paragraph 1: I was completely knocked out by the news. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Finally came the big moment. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I was completely knocked out by the news. What should I do? Having prepared for such a long time, I didn’t think of that coming up. Feeling at a loss, I was brainstorming as hard as I could to think of a solution, when a gentle touch on my back brought me back to reality. It was my mum, who looked at me with care and concern. “You have prepared for it enough. You can do it by yourself.” She said after my stumbled explanation. I looked back at her eyes, and a sense of confidence and warmness swelled up in my heart. Yes, I could do it myself. Finally came the big moment. Looking around the audience, I stepped onto the stage, with butterflies in my stomach. My voice trembled at first, but with the melodies flew around, the nervousness was gone with the wind. Emotions filled in my song, I performed as naturally as I spoke every day. I saw my mum, who was looking at me with reassurance and care. It turned out to be a good performance, which helped me conquer my fears and turned me into a new person. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 表演:perform/make a performance/show one’s talents ② 做准备:prepare for/make preparations for ③ 参加:participate in/join in/take part in/be involved in ④ 笑:grin/smile/laugh/giggle/chuckle 情绪类 ① 害羞内向的:shy/reserved/introverted ② 好奇的:curious/be full of curiosity ③ 开心的:delighted/overjoyed/content ④ 担忧的:concerned/worried/butterflies in one’s stomach 【点睛】[高分句型1] Having prepared for such a long time, I didn’t think of that coming up.(运用了现在分词作时间状语) [高分句型2] Emotions filled in my song, I performed as naturally as I spoke every day.(运用了独立主格结构) [高分句型3] I saw my mum, who was looking at me with reassurance and care.(运用了who引导的定语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2024年上学期涟源市高一5月月考 英语试题 (考试时间:120 分钟 总分:150 分) 第一部分 听力(共两节,每题 1.5分,满分 30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题 1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面 5 段对话。 What does the man want to do? B In recent years, little free libraries of all shapes and sizes have popped up. Often built by community members, they could be found on street corners and the sidewalks across the United States, hoping to share their book collections with their neighbors. Minneapolis, Minnesota, even hosted the first Little Free Library Festival, where book fans came together to promote literacy (读写能力)in their communities. For the most part little free libraries have more in common with book sharing shelves in hotels, local parks, coffee shops and other public spaces than the traditional public library. 24. C The Mogao Grottoes were a center of Buddhist life and some of the world’s great cultures for hundreds of years. In the 1940s many researchers and artists visited the area to study traditional Chinese art. In 1987, the Mogao Grottoes were named a UNESCO World Heritage Site If you know your computer will save information, why store it in your own personal memory, your brain? A. introduce the main topic B. show the author’s attitude C describe how to use the Internet D. explain how to store information 33. How to Make Sure You Enjoy Your Trip A trip is a planned destination where one arranges in advance in which the main purpose is to search for adventure and to create a memorable moment. ___36___ • Plan it well. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$null
