Every morning, even before her mother awakens, she finishes cooking and cleaning before cycling 5km to run her shop alone. Over the past year, she has sold about 200 of her paintings, 50 of which were bought since she opened her shop in April this year. However, back in 2019, Rachna had almost given up on life after having to leave school due to family’s financial problems. She became depressed, thinking she would have to spend the rest of her days doing household chores. Around this time, the Aga Khan Foundation (AKF) came into the picture with Project Lehar, providing vocational training, entrepreneurship (创业), and life skills courses to young women. Project Lehar, run by AKF in partnership with The King’s Trust International, enabled girls and young women from disadvantaged backgrounds to rediscover and realise their potential. This was a good opportunity for Rachna to not just continue her studies but also to convince her parents to drop her marriage plans. After she was admitted into college through Project Lehar, she was also given some suggestions on entrepreneurial and career prospects. One such session on wheat stalk painting made her fall in love with this traditional art form of Bahraich and her creativity was brought out. Now she is economically independent by selling wheat stalk paintings. However, Rachna is not resting on her achievements. Her shop also doubles up as a training centre where other girls from disadvantaged backgrounds like her who want to stand on their feet get a second chance to change their lives like she did. While teaching these enthusiastic young girls is a joyful experience, what gives Rachna more pride is being chosen as a wheat stalk painting trainer by the foundation. From being a trainee under this project to now becoming its paid trainer, Rachna’s life has come full circle. 24. What once upset Rachna? A. Dropping out of school. B. Losing her favorite job. C. Riding to her shop alone. D. Doing household chores. 25 How did Rachna benefit from Project Lehar? A. She was funded to open her own shop. B. She got the chance to continue her studies. C. She changed her attitude toward marriage. D. She learned life skills from women like her. 26. What brings Rachna more sense of achievement? A. Becoming an extraordinary woman artist. B. Working as a wheat stalk painting trainer. C. Giving financial help to disadvantaged girls. D. Launching the famous Project Lehar independently. 27. Which of the following words best describe Rachna? A. Gifted and adventurous. B. Easygoing and confident. C. Hard-working and creative. D. Wealthy and independent. C Many factors can influence whether a patient lives or dies. The quality of the drugs they receive, the rigour with which their symptoms are monitored, or — more surprisingly — the gender of the attending physician. A 2017 study by Yusuke Tsugawa and colleagues published in JAMA Internal Medicine analyzed medical records of 1.5 million hospitalized older adults from 2011 to 2014. The study revealed that patients treated by female physicians had a 4% lower risk of death and readmission within 30 days compared to those treated by male physicians. And more recent studies have supported the finding. These studies are connected to the past findings, looking back at naturally occurring data rather than randomized-controlled (随机对照) experiments. This could conceal any underlying factors that might be driving the effect. For example, it could be that female physicians tend to be assigned healthier patients than their male colleagues. In an experiment where patients were randomly assigned doctors, any such links would be broken. To control for such effects, most studies try to account for the impact of different hospitals and procedures in their analysis, with some comparing across groups of patients who are matched for age, sex, and illness severity, as well as groups of surgeons matched by age and surgical experience. No matter how the data are sliced, female physicians seem to perform better. Researchers say the next step is to figure out why. Dr. Christopher Wallis, the lead author on several of the Canadian papers, suggests, “I think it’s a series of behaviors that are linked with gender. Female physicians tend to spend more time with patients, are more likely to provide preventive care, and tend to stick more closely to clinical guidelines than their male colleagues do. This could minimize the risk of preventable deaths.” Further investigation into the factors contributing to these differences may enhance healthcare quality and equity across the medical profession. 28. What can we learn from Yusuke Tsugawa’s study? A. Doctor’s gender decides the patient survival rate. B. Men doctors’ patients are more likely to be hospitalized. C. Patients treated by women doctors have better outcomes. D. Women doctors are more competent than male ones. 29. What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. Benefits of random trials. B. Approaches of the researches. C. Practices of controlled experiments. D. Limitations of the studies. 30. To regulate such effects, most studies are conducted by ________. A. focusing on patients with severe illnesses B. considering a set of controlled factors C. using the same treatment plan in every hospital D. comparing the data from randomized patients 31. According to Dr. Christopher, women doctors tend to ________. A. recommend health choices B. rely on experience in treatment C. rush through patient consultations D. challenge traditional medical practices D According to the Solar Energy Industry Association, the number of solar panels installed(安装)has grown rapidly in the past decade, and it has to grow even faster to meet climate goals. But all of that growth will take up a lot of space, and though more and more people accept the concept of solar energy, few like large solar panels to be installed near them. Solar developers want to put up panels as quickly and cheaply as possible, so they haven’t given much thought to what they put under them. Often, they’ll end up filling the area with small stones and using chemicals to control weeds. The result is that many communities, especially in farming regions, see solar farms as destroyers of the soil. “Solar projects need to be good neighbors,” says Jordan Macknick, the head of the Innovative Site Preparation and Impact Reductions on the Environment(InSPIRE)project. “They need to be protectors of the land and contribute to the agricultural economy.” InSPIRE is investigating practical approaches to “low-impact” solar development, which focuses on establishing and operating solar farms in a way that is kinder to the land. One of the easiest low-impact solar strategies is providing habitat for pollinators(传粉昆虫). Habitat loss, pesticide use, and climate change have caused dramatic declines in pollinator populations over the past couple of decades, which has damaged the U.S. agricultural economy. Over 28 states have passed laws related to pollinator habitat protection and pesticide use. Conservation organizations put out pollinator-friendliness guidelines for home gardens, businesses, schools, cities—and now there are guidelines for solar farms. Over the past few years, many solar farm developers have transformed the space under their solar panels into a shelter for various kinds of pollinators, resulting in soil improvement and carbon reduction. “These pollinator-friendly solar farms can have a valuable impact on everything that’s going on in the landscape,” says Macknick. 32. What do solar developers often ignore? A. The decline in the demand for solar energy. B. The negative impact of installing solar panels. C. The rising labor cost of building solar farms. D. The most recent advances in solar technology. 33. What does InSPIRE aim to do? A. Improve the productivity of local farms. B. Invent new methods for controlling weeds. C. Make solar projects environmentally friendly. D. Promote the use of solar energy in rural areas. 34. What is the purpose of the laws mentioned in paragraph 4? A To conserve pollinators. B. To restrict solar development. C. To diversify the economy. D. To ensure the supply of energy. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Pollinators: To Leave or to Stay B. Solar Energy: Hope for the Future C. InSPIRE: A Leader in Agriculture D. Solar Farms: A New Development Have you ever slept a full eight hours but awakened feeling as tired as if you had pulled an allnighter? ____36____ Unrefreshing sleep, also known as non-restorative sleep, is exactly what it sounds like: sleep that doesn’t recharge the body and brain enough to help you feel well-rested. If you’re constantly struggling with non-restorative sleep, it’s necessary to take a hard look at your habits and sleep hygiene (卫生). ____37____ Some people think they need less than the recommended seven to nine hours per night, but are in reality feeling sleep-deprived. To test whether you’re well-rested, skip setting your alarm on your day off and see how late you wake up without it. If you sleep in late, that’s a signal that your body needs to catch up on rest because you’re not getting enough shut-eye normally. Take a look at any medications you’re using. Sleeping pills and other types of prescription drugs, as well as over-the-counter treatments like melatonin (褪黑激素), can have “hangover” effects that lead to morning dizziness. ____38____ If you’re on a necessary medication that makes you feel dizzy in the morning, ask your doctor if there’s a way to minimize side effects. Try to implement the classic sleep advice you’ve probably heard a million times, but likely still don’t follow. Limit caffeine and alcohol consumption; stay off your phone close to bedtime; create a soothing bedtime routine and aim for consistent sleep and wake times; and try to sleep in a cool, dark, quiet room. ____39____ If you’ve done all these things and still feel like your sleep isn’t restorative to the point of disturbing your daily life, it’s worth seeing a doctor. ____40____ Hopefully, he can help you get into a routine that leaves you feeling refreshed in the morning. A. Figure out how long it takes you to fall asleep. B. Make sure you’re actually getting enough sleep. C. Everyone has the occasional night of poor sleep. D. A physician can look for underlying medical causes. E. It can create or worsen the feeling of unrefreshing sleep. F. If so, you may have experienced what’s known as unrefreshing sleep. G. But Kojo stayed at his desk to make sure that he was last. “Come on!” “Hurry up!” His classmates called and Kojo finally fell in place as they made their way down the hall to the cafeteria (食堂). Kojo’s classmates carried cool-looking lunch bags: fashionable, colorful, zippered bags containing all kinds of delights and delicacies. Instead, he carried an old one given by his grandma. Kojo dragged his feet, his head hung down and his lunch bag hung behind. During lunch, Kojo cautiously sat at a table with his new classmates. He unzipped his lunch bag and slowly pulled out his lunch — some traditional dishes from his grandmother’s kitchen. As he opened the container, a classmate across the table burst into laughter, pointing at the lunch bag. Kojo’s cheeks turned red with embarrassment as he quickly zipped up his lunch bag, feeling a wave of shame wash over him. He wished he could disappear. Later that day, feeling upset, Kojo returned home. His grandmother noticed his depression and sat down beside him. “What’s troubling you, my boy?” she asked gently. As he explained what happened in the day, her eyes softened with understanding. She opened the lunch bag and gently traced its worn fabric. “You know, Kojo,” she began, her voice filled with warmth, “this lunch bag carries more than just your lunch. It carries our family’s history. Your grandfather and his father used this very bag to carry their lunches, too. It has seen generations of men in our family working hard and taking pride in who they are.” Kojo listened with interest. His grandmother continued, detailing stories from their family’s past, about the traditions passed down through time. Each tale celebrated their culture and the unique dishes that had made their family. With each story, his embarrassment began to fade, replaced by a newfound appreciation for his heritage. Paragraph 1: That night, Kojo decided to share with his classmates the history of his lunch bag. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: When he finished, the classroom erupted into applause. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$现在是听力试音时间。Hello, international friends club, can I help you? After she was admitted into college through Project Lehar she was also given some suggestions on entrepreneurial and career prospects. 24 What once upset Rachna? A. Dropping out of school. B. Losing her favorite job. C. Riding to her shop alone. D. Doing household chores. 25. How did Rachna benefit from Project Lehar? A 25. B 26. B 27. 由文章第二段中“However, back in 2019, Rachna had almost given up on life after having to leave school due to family’s financial problems. She became depressed, thinking she would have to spend the rest of her days doing household chores. (然而,早在2019年,由于家庭经济问题,Rachna不得不离开学校,几乎放弃了生活。她变得沮丧起来,想着她将不得不把剩下的时间花在做家务上)”可知,让Rachna心烦的是辍学这件事。故选A。 由文章第四段中“After she was admitted into college through Project Lehar, she was also given some suggestions on entrepreneurial and career prospects. (在她通过Lehar项目进入大学后,她也得到了一些关于创业和职业前景的建议)”可知,Rachna通过Project Lehar项目被大学录取,并得到了关于创业和职业前景的建议。因此,她从Project Lehar项目中受益的是有机会继续她的学业。故选B。 【26题详解】 细节理解题。由文章最后一段中“While teaching these enthusiastic young girls is a joyful experience, what gives Rachna more pride is being chosen as a wheat stalk painting trainer by the foundation. (虽然教这些热情的年轻女孩是一种愉快的经历,但让Rachna更自豪的是,她被基金会选为麦秆绘画培训师)”可知,作为麦秆画培训师的工作给Rachna带来了更多的成就感。故选B。 【27题详解】 推理判断题。由文章第一段中“Every morning, even before her mother awakens, she finishes cooking and cleaning before cycling 5km to run her shop alone. (每天早上,甚至在母亲醒来之前,她就做完了烹饪和清洁,然后独自骑自行车5公里去经营她的商店)”可知,她是勤奋的。由文章第四段中“One such session on wheat stalk painting made her fall in love with this traditional art form of Bahraich and her creativity was brought out. (其中一场关于麦秆绘画的讲座让她爱上了巴林这种传统艺术形式,并激发了她的创造力)”可知,她很有创造力。因此,最能描述Rachna的词是“勤奋和富有创造力”。故选C。 C Many factors can influence whether a patient lives or dies. C Practices of controlled experiments. A. recommend health choices B. rely on experience in treatment C. rush through patient consultations D. challenge traditional medical practices 【答案】28. C 29. D 30. B 31. 根据第二段“The study revealed that patients treated by female physicians had a 4% lower risk of death and readmission within 30 days compared to those treated by male physicians.(该研究显示,与男性医生治疗的患者相比,女性医生治疗的患者在30天内死亡和再入院的风险降低了4%)”可知,女性医生治疗的患者在30天内死亡和再入院的风险降低了4%,由此可知,女医生治疗的患者有更好的结果。 根据第三段“This could conceal any underlying factors that might be driving the effect. For example, it could be that female physicians tend to be assigned healthier patients than their male colleagues.(这可能掩盖了任何潜在的影响因素。例如,女性医生可能比她们的男同事更容易被分配到更健康的患者)”可知,研究可能掩盖了潜在的影响因素,第三段主要讨论了研究的局限性。故选D项。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“To control for such effects, most studies try to account for the impact of different hospitals and procedures in their analysis, with some comparing across groups of patients who are matched for age, sex, and illness severity, as well as groups of surgeons matched by age and surgical experience.(为了控制这种效应,大多数研究试图在分析中考虑不同医院和程序的影响,有些研究比较了年龄、性别和疾病严重程度相匹配的患者群体,以及按年龄和手术经验匹配的外科医生群体)”可知,为了调节这种效应,大多数研究是通过考虑一组受控因素进行的。 根据第五段“Female physicians tend to spend more time with patients, are more likely to provide preventive care, and tend to stick more closely to clinical guidelines than their male colleagues do.(女医生往往花更多时间与患者在一起,更有可能提供预防性护理,并且比她们的男同事更严格地遵循临床指南)”可知,女医生更有可能提供预防性护理,并且比她们的男同事更严格地遵循临床指南。 故选A项。 D According to the Solar Energy Industry Association, the number of solar panels installed(安装)has grown rapidly in the past decade, and it has to grow even faster to meet climate goals. A. To conserve pollinators. Solar Farms: A New Development 【答案】32. B 33. C 34. A 35. 根据第二段中的“Often, they’ll end up filling the area with small stones and using chemicals to control weeds. The result is that many communities, especially in farming regions, see solar farms as destroyers of the soil.(通常,他们最终会用小石头填满该地区,并使用化学物质来控制杂草。结果是,许多社区,特别是在农业地区,将太阳能农场视为土壤的破坏者。)”可知,太阳能开发者采用不环保的方式处理太阳能板安装后产生的问题,导致人们把太阳能农场看作是土壤的破坏者,由此可以推断,开发者在安装太阳能板后忽略了其带来的负面影响。故选B项。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“InSPIRE is investigating practical approaches to “low-impact” solar development, which focuses on establishing and operating solar farms in a way that is kinder to the land.(InSPIRE正在研究“低影响”太阳能开发的实用方法,其重点是以对土地更友好的方式建立和运营太阳能农场。)” 根据第四段中的“Over 28 states have passed laws related to pollinator habitat protection and pesticide use.(超过28个州通过了与传粉媒介栖息地保护和农药使用有关的法律。)” 故选A项。 根据最后一段中的“Over the past few years, many solar farm developers have transformed the space under their solar panels into a shelter for various kinds of pollinators, resulting in soil improvement and carbon reduction.(在过去的几年里,许多太阳能农场开发商将太阳能电池板下的空间改造成各种传粉媒介的庇护所,从而改善了土壤并减少了碳排放。)” Have you ever slept a full eight hours but awakened feeling as tired as if you had pulled an allnighter? ____39____ If you’ve done all these things and still feel like your sleep isn’t restorative, to the point of disturbing your daily life, it’s worth seeing a doctor. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Paragraph 1: That night, Kojo decided to share with his classmates the history of his lunch bag. The following day, he asked his teacher for a chance to share the stories that had been passed down to him. The day came soon. Standing in front of his classmates, he felt a mix of excitement and nerves. His heart raced, and it felt like his mind was in overdrive. But he gathered his courage and began to speak. As he talked about the lunch bag and the family traditions it represented, his classmates listened attentively. Their expressions shifted from curiosity to genuine respect. Paragraph 2: When he finished, the classroom erupted into applause. Instead of ridicule, Kojo felt a sense of acceptance. He had turned what once made him feel ashamed into a source of pride. His classmates began to share their own cultural experiences, initiating a broader conversation about the importance of celebrating their differences. From that day on, Kojo carried more than food in his worn bag; he carried the pride of his heritage.
