(24-25高一上·辽宁丹东·期中)As a small boy, Jim Corbett was amazed by wildlife. He taught himself how to seek animals and birds by the sounds they made. Later, Jim became a tracker and hunter. The authorities asked him to track and shoot man-eating tigers to protect people.
Between 1907 and 1938, Jim shot and killed nineteen tigers and fourteen leopards (豹). He did this on foot, sometimes accompanied by his dogs, and he took many risks to save people’s lives. The first tiger he shot was a Champawat Tiger, a tiger that killed more than 436 people. Jim was regarded as a hero by the locals.
Jim wondered why the tigers and leopards were killing people. When he examined many cats that he had shot, eventually he made an important discovery that shocked him. They all had injuries. Some had gunshot wounds from poachers (偷猎者). Poaching was common because people could sell tiger skins for decoration and tiger bones for medicine. One tiger had a gunshot wound in its mouth, and its teeth were damaged. Other tigers had injuries and then became sick. The reason why they were eating people was that they couldn’t hunt other creatures to feed on.
After his discoveries, Jim became interested in conservation. He concentrated on his new mission: saving tigers. He gave lectures and inspired people to respect wildlife - especially the big cats, which he loved and respected. Two years after he died in 1955, the oldest national park in India got a new name: Corbett National Park. It’s a shelter for tigers, leopards, and other endangered animals. There’s even a species of tiger named after Jim called Corbett’s Tiger, of which there may only be 350 worldwide.
24.Why did Jim Corbett kill tigers?
A.Because he was the best hunter then. B.Because tigers hurt and killed people.
C.Because authorities needed protection. D.Because he could seek birds by sound.
25.How did Jim discover the reason why tigers attacked people?
A.By investigating tigers’ teeth. B.By helping with tigers’ treatment.
C.By examining tigers with specific facilities. D.By looking at the tigers’ dead bodies carefully.
26.What did Jim do to save tigers?
A.He protected tigers’ habitat.
B.He built new shelters for animals.
C.He raised people’s awareness of wildlife protection.
D.He gave a number of lectures on tigers’ favorite food.
27.Why was a species of tiger named Corbett’s Tiger?
A.For Jim’s generosity. B.For Jim’s contributions.
C.For their birth place. D.For their limited population.

(23-24高一下·黑龙江哈尔滨·期中)Have you ever looked at a seal (海豹) and thought, “Is that the same seal I saw yesterday?” Well, there could soon be an app for that. Known as SealNet, this app was developed by a team of undergraduate students from Colgate University in New York.
Taking inspiration from the technology adapted for recognizing bears, Krista Ingram, a biologist at Colgate University, led her students to develop software that is tailored to identify the harbor seal, a species with a special liking for posing on coasts.
The team had to train their software to identify seal faces. “I give it a photograph. It finds the face, and makes it a standard size,” says Ingram. And then she and her students would identify the nose, the mouth, and the center of the eyes by themselves.
As with all technology, however, SealNet is not always unerring. The software saw seal faces on other body parts, plants, and even rocks. In one case, Ingram and her students did a double take at the similarity between a rock and a seal face. “The rock did look like a seal face,” Ingram says. “The darker parts were about the same distance as the eyes, so you can understand why the software found a face.” Consequently, she says it’s always best to check that seal faces identified by the software belong to a real seal.
Of the world’s pinnipeds — a group that includes seals and sea lions — harbor seals are considered the most widely spread. Yet knowledge gaps do exist. Other techniques to track seals, such as tagging and aerial monitoring, have their limitations and can be highly invasive (侵入的) or expensive. Ingram believes SealNet could be a useful, noninvasive tool for researchers.
Ingram points to an aspect of seal behavior that SealNet could cast more light on. The team’s trials indicated that seals return to the same sites on coasts year after year. Increasing scientists’ understanding of how seals move around could strengthen arguments for protecting specific areas, says Anders Galatius, an ecologist at Aarhus University in Denmark.
28.What can we learn about SealNet?
A.It is a seal face-finding system. B.It can help recognize bears as well.
C.It was developed by some graduates. D.It can take photos of seals automatically.
29.What does the underlined word “unerring” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Available. B.Complicated. C.Accurate. D.Essential.
30.What do seals tend to do on coasts?
A.Stay on round rocks. B.Move around to keep fit.
C.Stick with sea lions. D.Visit certain spots regularly.
31.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To call for the protection of seals. B.To introduce seal-friendly technology.
C.To display new ways of tracking seals. D.To explain why seals always move around.

(22-23高一下·河北保定·阶段练习)The average person must think the field of artificial intelligence or AI is making great progress. The boss of a top tech company thinks that in search of creating AI that has the flexibility of the human brain, “the game is over”. Don’t be fooled. We should see it in a reasonable way. Machines may someday be as smart as people and perhaps even smarter, but the game is far from over. There is still a large amount of work to be done in making AI machines that can truly understand and reason about the world around them. What we need right now is more basic research to speed it up.
AI is making progress. Artificial images look more and more realistic, and speech recognition can often work in noisy environments. But we are still likely decades away from human-level AI that can understand the true meanings of articles and videos or deal with unexpected difficulties. The field is stuck on the same challenges that scientists have been pointing out for years: getting AI to be reliable and getting it to flexibly deal with unusual situations. Unluckily, the fact is that these systems still fail to work reliably and struggle with new situations.
Although deep learning has advanced the ability of AI machines to recognize patterns in data, it has three main disadvantages. The patterns that it learns are superficial. The results it creates are hard to explain. And the results are difficult to use in the other processes, such as memory and reasoning. As Harvard University computer scientist Leslie Valiant noted, “The central challenge in the future is to unify the formulations (统一公式) of learning and reasoning.” You can’t deal with a person carrying a stop sign if you don’t really understand what a stop sign even is.
It’s time for AI researchers to get out of turning to the media straightly for help, and ask important questions about how to build systems that can learn and reason at the same time.
32.What does the author expect of AI?
A.It’ll make less progress.
B.It’ll get less basic research.
C.It’ll replace human workforce in all fields.
D.It’ll have the real ability to understand and reason.
33.What does the author stress about human-level AI in paragraph 2?
A.Its cost and quality. B.Its speech and sound.
C.Its reliability and flexibility. D.Its appearance and operation.
34.What is paragraphs 3 mainly about?
A.The weaknesses of AI machines. B.The advances brought out by AI.
C.The processes of making AI machines. D.The scientists working on AI research.
35.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Keep Away from AI B.Treat AI Reasonably
C.The Use of AI Should Be Reported D.AI Is Turning to the Media for Help

(23-24高一下·福建龙岩·期中)Humans are driving climate change. That means we can change our path. 36 , individual actions matter, too. Here are some individual actions that can make a positive impact.
37 . First, be mindful of your meat. Cows create a lot of methane (甲烷), a significant driver of global climate change. One study found replacing beef with almost anything else for one meal a day can cut a person’s dietary carbon footprint by 48%. Then, address your food waste. Cut down on what you throw away and watch out for single-use items like coffee beans whose production produces greenhouse gases.
Extend product lifespan (寿命). 38 . Shoes, clothes, furniture and even some electronics can be repaired to extend their life and keep waste out of landfills.
Switch to electric cooking. Not only is gas-powered cooking releasing harmful chemicals into the environment, but it could be contributing to health problems for you if you’re cooking indoors. 39 .
Plant trees where you can. Trees can help control temperatures and improve air quality. 40 . Local wildlife organizations often have lists of plants with neutral (中性的) or positive impacts on local flora and fauna (动植物群).

The Real Champion
I like running and for me, success was winning every race I participated in. My classmates called me Incredible Dash. One day, there was a sporting event planned in my school. Well-prepared for the running competition, I took part in almost every race there was. A large number of people gathered to watch. Crowds were eager to see the running race because it was the most exciting event. When the race for 400m started, all the boys ran fast. Unsurprisingly, I finished first in the race and received a big round of applause. While it was tiring, I felt proud and was on top of my world.
In the race for 200m, I ran full speed and finished the race fist once again. The crowd gave thundering claps to me. I jumped all over the ground and was not bothered to give handshakes to my fellow racers.
Then came the race for 100m. Discouraged by the previous races, most boys quit the race except one, a boy named Matt who was invited as an honorary runner. Matt was born with low vision but he was a determined participant of many sports. The judge came to Matt and explained the situation, asking whether he would like to quit too. I, wild with joy, thought I would win the champion without effort. However, to everyone’s surprise, Matt decided to complete the event. I sniffed, “It is a waste of time, I bet he even doesn’t figure out where the finish line is.”
The race of two started. On hearing the starting gun, both Matt and I ran to the finish line. Soon I sped up and left Matt behind. Just 30 meters before arriving at the finish line, I was expecting to receive the applause for the third time when I suffered a leg spasm (抽筋).
I fell hard to the ground. My dream of another easy victory was shattered. Feeling defeated, I lay on the ground, ashamed to face the stunned crowd. I pictured the sneering faces and wondered whether to pick myself up.
Suddenly a hand reached out to me.

【答案】24.B 25.D 26.C 27.B

【答案】28.A 29.C 30.D 31.B

【答案】32.D 33.C 34.A 35.B

【答案】范文
Suddenly a hand reached out to me. I raised my head and found it’s Matt. “Let’s run together.” he said. There was just sincerity on his face, no mock. I believed I should trust him, and gave him my hand. Arm by arm, we walked towards the finish line. The crowds fell into silence, and then broke into loud applause. What did they applaud for? I think I know. Bowing to Matt, I thanked Matt for his help and admitted he was the champion. “No, I participate in the race not for the champion, just for the participation. You are very excellent.” he said. I was surprised at first, and then realized that the full engagement and good faith deserved the real champion.
