I tend to go slowly when I drive in the mountains of my home, because the forest scenery is beautiful no matter what the season. This morning I was driving slower than usual because an early March snow had turned the roads slippery. Going up a mountain road, I had to slow down as I rounded a sharp, snowy curve (弯道). That was when I saw a majestic buck deer (公鹿) standing in the middle of the road. I came to a full stop and for a few seconds we just stared at each other. His eyes seemed wise and his composure (镇静) refined. Finally, he nodded his head at me. I nodded in return and motioned with my hand for him to go on. He then leapt across the road, up the hill, and back into the woods. I drove on smiling at the magic of this moment and thanked that I had been going slowly enough not to hit this beautiful creature.
Most of us rush through this life not knowing what we are missing. We rarely get to enjoy what each day brings us. Wouldn’t it be better to go slowly through our days here? Life is meant to be savored. Moments are meant to be cherished. Days are meant to be lived in love and joy not flown through at a frantic (疯狂的) speed.
The next time you find yourself going too fast, slow down. Take the time to watch the sun rise over the horizon and fill the world with light. Take the time to look your children in their eyes, hug them, and tell them that you love them. Take the time to smile, laugh, and sing. Take the time to read, lounge (闲逛), and relax. Take the time to live your life with love and delight in all the miracles each day brings you. If you do, your life will be so much better and more beautiful. And you might even end up not hitting a deer on your way home.

Is boredom a thing of the past, like black-and-white television? And, if so, is that a good thing? Julie Robinson, a former teacher who now represents the Independent Association of Prep Schools, thinks that boredom is regarded as an enemy of today’s children, and they are losing the ability to become thoughtful and reflective (沉思的).
“We should not fear boredom.” said Julie Robinson. “Boredom is valuable to children. Quiet, reflective time is just as important as purposeful activity,” she added.
Her opinion is that constant (连续不断的) activity for a child, often the result of the dreams of parents, will lead to concerned and worrying adult. The traditional ideas that children should be constantly active could prevent the development of their imagination. So anything that improves a greater thoughtfulness is to be warmly welcomed.
Parents now feel a sense of failure when they hear their children complain about being bored. They seek an electronic devices (设备) to play games at once. And we didn’t feel bored during long car journeys anymore by the impatient “Are we there yet?” because all kinds of electronic devices have been taken along to avoid even a minute of boredom. So what chance do children have to allow their thoughts to wander?
But it’s not just children who need lessons in reflection. Adults need that, too. On my train journey to work this morning, I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t using an electronic device. No one was simply looking out of the window at the beautiful views of the county side. Not time for quiet thinking, even in the quiet library. There were emails to send, texts to read, and games to play. The wider world, seemingly, didn’t exist. The mobile phone has changed many things about our lives, and has developed an inability—among adults as well as children—to live in the present. What Julie Robinson regards is a cross-generational phenomenon (现象): the fear of “inactivity”. And she is right.
46. Julie Robinson thinks boredom is useful because it makes children .
A. find effective solutions to social problems
B. improve the ability to learn knowledge
C. have time to think and have their imagination developed
D. communicate more with their parents and friends
47 What’s the author’s attitude towards the action of parents in Paragraph 4?
A. Negative B. Hopeful
C. Positive D. Unconcerned
48. Which of the following is seen as “inactivity” according to the last paragraph?
A. Sending emails on a train.
B. Playing games with friends.
C. Planning constant activity for children.
D. Looking out of the window at the beautiful views.
49. The author mentioned the train journey to show that .
A. the trip on a quiet train was very boring
B. the view of the countryside was beautiful
C. people had too much work to do
D. electronic devices influence people’s life greatly
50. Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Both adults and children like to stay alone and recall their past days.
B. People fail to leave their children enough time to think and imagine.
C. Electronic devices are always good for children.
D. Parents should tell their children how to use a mobile phone.
C 47. A 48. D 49. D 50. B
根据第二段中Julie Robinson说的话“Boredom is valuable to children. Quiet, reflective time is just as important as purposeful activity,(无聊对孩子来说是有价值的。安静、沉思的时间和有目的的活动一样重要)”和第三段中“The traditional ideas that children should be constantly active could prevent the development of their imagination. So anything that improves a greater thoughtfulness is to be warmly welcomed.(传统观念认为孩子应该不断活跃,这会阻碍他们想象力的发展。因此,任何能够提高更深思熟虑的事情都会受到热烈欢迎。)”可知,Julie Robinson认为无聊是有用的,因为它能让孩子们有时间思考,且发展他们的想象力,故选C。
【47题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“Parents now feel a sense of failure when they hear their children complain about being bored. They seek an electronic devices (设备) to play games at once. And we didn’t feel bored during long car journeys anymore by the impatient “Are we there yet?” because all kinds of electronic devices have been taken along to avoid even a minute of boredom. (现在,当父母听到孩子抱怨无聊时,他们会感到一种失败感。他们寻找一种可以立即玩游戏的电子设备。在长途汽车旅行中,我们再也不会因为不耐烦地问“我们到了吗?”而感到无聊,因为各种各样的电子设备已经随身携带,以避免哪怕是一分钟的无聊)”和第五段中“But it’s not just children who need lessons in reflection. Adults need that, too. (但不仅仅是孩子们需要反思,大人们也需要)”可知,当父母听到孩子感到无聊时,总是给他们电子设备让他们来玩游戏,这使得孩子没有时间进行反思,由此可推知,作者对第四段中父母的行为持否定态度,故选A。
【48题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“On my train journey to work this morning, I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t using an electronic device.
On my train journey to work this morning, I couldn’t see a single person who wasn’t using an electronic device. D
You are given many opportunities in life to choose to be a victim or creator. When you choose to be a victim the world is a cold and difficult place. “They” did things to you which caused all of your pain and suffering. “They” are wrong and bad, and life is terrible as long as “they” are around. Or you may blame yourself for all your problems, thus internalizing (内化) your victimization. The truth is, your life is likely to stay that way as long as you feel a need to blame yourself or others.
Those who choose to be creators look at life quite differently. They know there are individuals who might like to control their lives, but they don’t let this get in the way. They know they have their weaknesses, yet they don’t blame themselves when they fail. Whatever happens, they have choice in the matter. They believe their dance with each sacred (神圣的) moment of life is a gift and that storms are a natural part of life which can bring the rain needed for emotional and spiritual growth.
Victims and creators live in the same physical world and deal with many of the same physical realities, yet their experience of life is worlds apart. Victims relish (沉溺) in anger, guilt, and other emotions that cause others—and even themselves—to feel like victims, too. Creators consciously choose love, inspiration, and other qualities which inspire not only themselves, but all around them. Both victims and creators always have choice to determine the direction of their lives.
In reality, all of us play the victim or the creator at various points in our lives. One person, on losing a job or a special relationship, may feel as if it is the end of the world and sink into terrible suffering for months, years, or even a lifetime. Another with the same experience may choose to first experience the grief, then accept the loss and soon move on to be a powerful creative force in his life.
In every moment and every circumstance, you can choose to have fuller, richer life by setting a clear intention to transform the victim within, and by inviting into your life the powerful creator that you are.
51. What does the word “they” in Paragraph 1 probably refer to?
A. People and things around you. B. Opportunities and problems.
C. Creators and their choices. D. Victims and their sufferings.
52. According to Paragraph 2, creators __________.
A. seem willing to experience failures in life
B. possess the ability to predict future life
C. handle ups and downs of life wisely

A. Creators and victims face quite different things in life.
B. Creators and victims are masters of their lives.
C. Victims can influence more people than creators.
D. Compared with victims, creators are more emotional.
54. The examples mentioned in Paragraph 4 show that _______________.
A. strong attachment to sufferings in life pulls people into victims.
B. people need family support to deal with challengers in life.
C. it takes creators quite a long time to get rid of their pains.
D. one’s experiences determine his attitude toward life.
55. What is the author’s purpose in writing this passage?
A. To define victims and creators.
B. To evaluate victims against creators.
C. To explain the relationship between victims and creators.
D. To suggest the transformation from victims to creators.

Just like everyone, I have experienced ups and downs in my life. I am an aerospace engineer from India, I was told by my relatives, close friends and others that it was hard for a non-IT student to pursue a master's degree in IT and graduate from a US university.
I had never taken courses related to computers or programming. I was never interested in being a programmer, but things changed. I became so fascinated with the convenience IT has brought to our life that I made up my mind in chasing a master's degree in IT.
At first, I came across too many difficulties and setbacks. Coming from a middle-class family, the huge cost per credit was a big issue. My English accent was terrible. Most importantly, the course seemed impossible at first. Although I felt so discouraged and frustrated, I never thought of giving up.
Then I decided to choose my university because it promised its students to help them learn practically. During my first month, it was difficult to understand the Americans' accent and finish my assignments. But I never gave in. I walked two miles to the university every day so that I could use my travel money to buy a meal. I started looking for jobs and I got an offer to work as a student assistant, which meant lifting benches and chairs every day.
I took all these challenges as my chances, and I believed that hard work was my strength. Right now I am graduating with a GPA of 3.96/4 and a job offer from a multinational company that has asked me to start right after graduation.
When you have a dream to realize, there is nothing that can stop you. All you need is the diligence and persistence. Hard work always pays off. Having a determined will is also necessary.
56. Why did the author's family and friends say that it was hard for him to pursue a master's degree in IT? (no more than 8 words)

41. How did the author feel after his interaction with the deer?
A. Disappointed. B. Optimistic. C. Grateful. D. Funny.
42. The purpose of the first paragraph is to ______.
A. show us what we might miss if we go too fast
B. give an example of a narrow escape
C. tell how much the author loves nature

A endured all the time B. enjoyed to the fullest
C. discovered step by step D. challenged in every way
44. Why did the author drive slowly on that morning?
A. Because he wanted to enjoy the forest scenery.
B. Because he saw a majestic buck deer
C. Because snow made the road difficult for cars to drive on.
D. Because he took the time to watch the sunrise over the horizon
45. What does the author want to tell us with this article?
A. The most important thing in life is to be happy.
B. Living in harmony with nature is a must.
C. Modern life is not as good as life in earlier times.
D. Life is supposed to be appreciated.

A. Sending emails on a train.
B. Playing games with friends.

D
You are given many opportunities in life to choose to be a victim or creator. When you choose to be a victim, the world is a cold and difficult place.

A. Creators and victims face quite different things in life.
B. Creators and victims are masters of their lives.
C. Victims can influence more people than creators.
