It is some of the oldest needlework (针线). In the past, people embroidered on bed covers, tablecloths and dresses. Girls would embroider on sachets(香囊). The most famous embroidery styles are Su embroidery from Suzhou, such as double-faced embroidery(双面绣)—cat, Shu embroidery from Sichuan, such as magpie on plum and mandarin ducks playing on the water(《鸳鸯戏水》), Xiang embroidery from Hunan, such as lions and tigers, and Yue embroidery from Guang dong. Shu embroidery is the oldest of the four. People sold it to other countries through the South Silk Road. It is known for its smooth needlework and beautiful colors. Up till present today, Shu Embroidery has formed its own special style: smooth, bright, and neat. This art form is also deeply affected by the geographical environment, customs and cultures. The Sichuan Embroidery represents the creativity of the Sichuan people for its beautiful designs and great needlework. Embroidery takes time and patience. It might take as long as a whole day to finish just 10 cm of embroidery. By the 1970s, Sichuan had as many as 5,000 embroiderers. There is nothing set in stone. This can be very important to people in business that sell products all over the world. They might choose a color because they think it is exciting or attractive, but in another country that same color could be used to give a sad message. Look at these examples: If you ask someone in Britain what the right color is for a bride to wear, the answer will be white. In China and other eastern countries, brides often wear red because the color red is a sign of good luck, happiness and prosperity (繁荣). ________. In Britain, red is used as a sign of danger. Road signs and warning labels (标签) are often in red. In eastern cultures, the color red does not mean you have to be careful. In Egypt, yellow is the color linked to death. In Britain and other western cultures, death and funerals (葬礼) are usually linked to the color black, but in many eastern countries, white is the color most people connect with death and funerals. The term instead refers to a network of routes used by traders for more than 1,500 years, which went from China to Eastern Europe. The Silk Road went along the northern borders of China, through India, and Persia and ended up in Eastern Europe near today’s Türkiye and the Mediterranean Sea. It was called the Silk Road because one of the major traded products was silk cloth from China. Besides silk, the Chinese also exported (出口) tea, salt, sugar, porcelain, and spices. Most of what was traded was expensive luxury goods. This was because it was a long trip and merchants (商人) didn’t have a lot of room for goods. They imported, or bought, goods like cotton, ivory, wool, gold, and silver. Merchants traveled in large caravans (车队). They would have many guards with them. Traveling in this way helped in defending from bandits (土匪). Camels were popular animals for transport because much of the route was through dry and harsh land. Although there had been some trade between China and the rest of the world for some time, the silk trade was significantly expanded (发展) by the Han Dynasty. Later, under the rule of the Yuan Dynasty, set up by Kublai Khan of the Mongols, trade from China along the Silk Road would reach its peak. During this time the Mongols controlled a significant portion (部分) of the trade route, enabling Chinese merchants to travel safely. The Silk Road was important because it helped to generate trade between a number of different kingdoms and empires. This helped for ideas, culture, inventions, and unique products to spread across much of the settled world. The Silk Road was over 4,000 miles long. There wasn’t just one route, but many routes. Some were shorter, but more dangerous. Others took longer, but were safer. 1.Along the Silk Road, the Chinese traded these goods EXCEPT ________. It is probably one of the most ancient arts using light and shadow. It is also a mix of many art forms, including painting, music, opera and story-telling. Shadow puppetry was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (非物质文化遗产) List in 2011. More than 2,000 years ago, Emperor Wu of Han was very sad about the death of his wife. One day, one of his men happened to see some children playing with toys. The shadows of the toys were lively on the floor. Then he had an idea—he made a puppet (偶) of the emperor’s wife. As night fell, he invited the emperor to watch a puppet show. This is believed to be the start of shadow puppetry. In the Tang Dynasty, shadow puppetry was played by many people in many places around the country. Then in the Yuan Dynasty, it was introduced into West Asian and European countries along the Silk Road. The art form became the most popular in the Qing Dynasty. At that time, it was played in almost every province (省) and in many kinds of celebrations like weddings and birthday dinners. It is not an easy job to make the puppets. Their body parts are cut separately and then joined together so that they can move freely. During the show, puppetry artists connect the puppets’ most important joints (关节) with sticks. In this way, they can hold the puppets and make the puppets walk, run or dance as they want. Sometimes the puppets could be as lively as living things on the screen. In fact, most puppetry artists across China don’t get trained and don’t play shadow puppetry as a job. They just play it for fun and love. However, they are still experts (专家) in this field. In recent years, puppetry artists have explored ways to make this ancient art form as popular as it used to be and pass it on to the young, hoping more people can understand its importance and feel its beauty. In ancient China, people’s names had three parts, their family name, given name and courtesy name. Take famous poet Li Bai for example. His family name, which came from his father’s name, was Li. His given name was Bai, and his courtesy name was Taibai. People used their given names when they were among family members. But in social life, they called each other by their courtesy names to show respect. This was mostly done among people of similar age. If you were talking about yourself, or if your elders were talking about you, the given name would be used instead of the courtesy name. Men would get their courtesy names when they turned 20. It was a symbol of adulthood (成年礼). Women would get their courtesy names after getting married. One’s courtesy name often had something to do with one’s given name. For example, the name of Mencius was Meng Ke. His courtesy name was Ziyu. Both Ke and Ziyu mean “carriage (马车)”. Zhuge Liang’s given name was Liang, which means “bright”. His courtesy name was Kongming, which means “very bright”. 1.What does the underlined word “courtesy” in Paragraph 2 mean in Chinese? A.名 B.姓氏 C.字 D.昵称 2.Why did people call each other by their courtesy names in social life? A.To show their love. B.To show their good relationship. C.To show their kindness. D.To show their respect. 3.What’s the main idea of the passage? A.The famous poet Li Bai. B.Three parts of ancient names. C.The ancient names and the modern names. D.The development of names. 【答案】1.C 2.D 3.B 【导语】本文主要介绍了古代中国人的名字有三部分:姓、名和字。 1.词句猜测题。根据“His given name was Bai, and his courtesy name was Taibai.”可知李白的字为太白,所以courtesy意为“字”。故选C。 2.细节理解题。根据“But in social life, they called each other by their courtesy names to show respect.”可知在社交生活中,他们互相称呼对方的“字”以表示尊敬。故选D。 3.主旨大意题。通读全文可知,文章介绍了中国古代名字的三个部分。故选B。 24.(2025·重庆九龙坡·一模) What do you think of when you think about Tang Dynasty art? One feature (特点) about china, paintings and clothing from that time was that they used a lot of different colors. This was also true for women’s faces. The ladies back then were given much freedom to express their beauty. They used makeup (化妆品) with brighter colors than before. They put makeup mainly on their faces, forehead, eyebrows and cheeks to look more beautiful and graceful. “Women’s facial makeup in the Tang Dynasty was different from today. They put yellow powder on their foreheads. It was called the ‘yellow forehead,’” explains Sun Ji of the Museum of Chinese History. Just like the “yellow forehead”, the “green eyebrows” was also a makeup word. ▲ They dyed their eyebrows green to make themselves look nice. Later, the green color got darker and turned black. Besides the yellow forehead and green eyebrows, they also stuck a flower-like decoration between their eyebrows. The shapes were different. The simplest one was a round dot (小点). A fancier one could look like a pair of wings. Nowadays, most of us may not think the Tang Dynasty makeup is very beautiful. “Aesthetics change,” Sun says. “For example, in the early Tang Dynasty, women thought wide eyebrows were pretty. They also put two dots at the corners of their mouths. They were usually light in color.” One thing remains unchanged, though: People always like to look for beauty. And however “strange” the Tang style might seem today, it is part of the special charm of this great dynasty. 1.What was special about the art in the Tang Dynasty? A.It was mainly about women’s faces. B.It used a lot of different colors. C.It focused on clothing and paintings. D.It showed women’s freedom. 2.Which sentence can be put in the ▲ ? A.Makeup at that time was very expensive. B.Women loved colorful forehead very much. C.Women were very careful with their eyebrows. D.People at that time were good at making makeup. 3.What does the underlined word “Aesthetics” mean? A.Cost of makeup. B.Ideas of beauty. C.Colors of makeup. D.Popularity of art. 4.What can we infer from the passage? A.The “yellow forehead” makeup is still quite popular now. B.Tang Dynasty art makes no difference to modern art at all. C.People in different times have different standards of beauty. D.People’s understanding of beauty has always stayed the same. 【答案】1.D 2.C 3.B 4.C 【导语】本文主要讲述了唐朝艺术的特点,特别是唐朝女性在妆容方面的特色与自由。 1.细节理解题。根据“This was also true for women’s faces. The ladies back then were given much freedom to express their beauty. ”及“And however ‘strange’ the Tang style might seem today, it is part of the special charm of this great dynasty.”可知,唐朝艺术的特别之处是展示了女性的自由。故选D。 2.推理判断题。根据前文“They put yellow powder on their foreheads. It was called the ‘yellow forehead’”和“the ‘green eyebrows’ was also a makeup word”以及后文“They dyed their eyebrows green to make themselves look nice”可知,唐朝时女子不仅注重额头的妆容,也很注重眉毛的妆容,她们会把眉毛染绿来让自己看起来更漂亮,因此“Women were very careful with their eyebrows”(女子们对她们的眉毛非常用心)可以放在此处。故选C。 3.词句猜测题。根据画线词后文“change”以及“For example, in the early Tang Dynasty, women thought wide eyebrows were pretty. They also put two dots at the corners of their mouths. They were usually light in color”可知,此处举例说明审美会改变,比如唐朝早期女子认为宽眉毛漂亮,还会在嘴角点两个小点,颜色通常很浅,所以画线词意思是“审美观念”。故选B。 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“‘Aesthetics change,’ Sun says. ‘For example, in the early Tang Dynasty, women thought wide eyebrows were pretty. They also put two dots at the corners of their mouths. They were usually light in color’”(“审美观念会改变,”孙说。“例如,在唐朝早期,女子认为宽眉毛很漂亮。她们还会在嘴角点两个小点,颜色通常很浅”)可知,不同时代的人有不同的审美标准。故选C。 25.(2025·重庆江津·一模)①The drum has existed in Chinese culture for thousands of years and has a deep meaning which is more than a kind of musical instrument. ②The drum was mentioned in Chinese history in the Pottery Age (陶器时代). Space scientists have been greatly inspired (赋予灵感) by the old stories and ancient famous people when giving them names. Since thousands of years ago, Chinese people have dreamed of going to the moon. Change Flies to the Moon is one of the most popular stories. As you can see, China’s first man-made satellite to circle around the moon was named Chang’ e l. More interestingly, the moon rover (巡视器) was named after the Jade Rabbit, who is the partner of Chang’e in the story. These old stories carry people’s best wishes and dreams. With the development of science and technology, our scientists have made them come true. Kua Fu Runs After the Sun is another story to show how much ancient Chinese people wanted to know about the unknown world. Now, Kua Fu is going with the scientists to “visit” the sun, because we have a space project called Kua Fu Mission. Besides the ancient stories, space scientists also get ideas from ancient famous people. For example, Mozi, an ancient scientist, discovered that light travels in a straight line over 2, 000 years ago. His discovery made space study take a big step at that time. So, China’s first quantum (量子) science satellite was named Mozi, making China the first country in the world to achieve quantum communication between satellites and the ground. From such simple things as giving names to the satellites, we can see how great our traditional culture is and what influence (影响) it has on our modern science and technology. 1.In China, space scientists get ideas from ________ when naming satellites. ① old stories ②traditional projects ③ancient famous people ④popular inventions A.①② B.①③ C.②④ D.③④ 2.How does the writer support his opinion in Paragraph 4? In ancient China, people’s names had three parts, their family name, given name and courtesy name. Take famous poet Li Bai for example. His family name, which came from his father’s name, was Li.
