Ⅰ.阅读理解 A (2022·湖南益阳高三上模拟)Imagine a school that expected its students to become literate(有读写能力的) without any formal instruction. Most parents would be alarmed by such an approach, which would leave their children confused and with gaps in their understanding. This, however, has been the philosophy on character development in many of our schools. Why is the development of character seen as somehow different from the other skills that we teach? Of course there will always be learning by osmosis(耳濡目染) in any school, but as a teacher and primary school head I have found that a child's moral literacy is strengthened when they acquire the building blocks of good characters such as consideration, courage and honor, which are commonly known as virtues. I personally find that exploring a virtue over a twoweek period provides a simple and effective program that allows for the creative input of both teacher and student and a chance for the virtue to embed(使融入) itself. Once a lesson on a virtue such as honesty has been completed we need to allow time for children to practice this concept just as would be the case with fractions or verbs. Allowing children to role play a situation such as making up excuses to cover a mistake can be enormously interesting, and the drama can be frozen allowing the characters to be questioned about their feelings and motives. It's also a safe way for children to experience for themselves how a lie usually goes out of control. Our role as educators is also to look for opportunities to help our students as they attempt to strengthen their characters. When something goes wrong we guide the young person to the virtue that will prevent it from happening again. For instance, when a student thoughtlessly disturbs the calm atmosphere of the library, instead of a response such as, “That was really disrespectful and selfish of you!” we draw out from them the required virtue: “When you're walking through the library, what virtues do you need to use?” 1.What does the underlined word “philosophy” in Paragraph 1 mean? But there were so many people there that the discussion was limited. After getting home, my 13yearold son asked me to read one chapter to him. So I read the chapter about spending my pocket money as a nineyearold child. The story took place at a lunch counter, where I dreamed of ordering a banana split. Colorful balloons were hung above the counter and a sign said “Pop(使爆裂) a balloon and pay 1 cent to 63 cents for a banana split!” As I was given only 50 cents for cleaning the doghouse, I didn't dare to ask my parents for any more pocket money without doing more work or risk asking anyone else. So I kept my wish to myself. Frankie listened carefully, as I read the final sentences of the chapter, “I watched as others selected a balloon to pop and dreamed about the opportunity to take my chance. But it never happened.” The next morning, Frankie led me to the kitchen. I couldn't believe my eyes. The table was covered in a pile of balloons. Frankie handed me 50 cents and a fork. “Pop one!” he urged. With tears in my eyes, I broke one. A piece of paper fell out of the balloon. “What does it say?” Frankie asked. “Fifty cents,” I whispered, too moved to speak loudly. Frankie asked, “Well, do you have 50 cents?” I handed him the money. “OK!” Then Frankie pulled out a banana split from the refrigerator. I hugged Frankie hard. We took turns popping the other balloons until I finally got the 1cent balloon. It was a longtime coming, but worth the wait. It hit me that the first step in making any wish come true is giving it a voice. 5.Why did the author read the chapter to Frankie? A.Because Frankie wanted her to read it to him. B.Because she wanted to get feedback from Frankie. C.Because Frankie had a strong desire for knowledge. D.Because she was used to telling a bedtime story to him. 故选A项。 6.What can we learn about the author from Paragraph 2? A.She spent money wisely as a kid. B.She always kept her wish to herself. C.She had enough money to buy what she liked. D.She earned her pocket money by doing housework. 7.How did the author feel about Frankie's behavior? A.Excited and comfortable. B.Surprised and moved. C.Awkward and disappointed. D.Puzzled and anxious. 根据第四段中“I couldn't believe my eyes ...With tears in my eyes, I broke one.” 8.What did the author learn from the experience? A.It is comforting to have a kid around. B.It is important to express one's wishes. C.Wishes can come true by just voicing them. D.Experiences in childhood affect us later in life. Ⅱ.语法填空 (2022·江苏徐州三校高三上期末联考)Did you know that what you think you like and don't like is often the result of false 1.__________(believe)? As humans, we tend to be 2.__________(ease) influenced when it comes to liking or disliking something, and we're happy to have our existing opinions 3.__________(confirm). But once they became fixed, we often lose our ability to be 4.__________(object) and we don't like to have our ideas challenged. Generally speaking, human beings are not good at taking a balanced view of things. For instance, we unconsciously start to listen for and select information that 5.__________(match) our understanding and turn a blind eye to information that doesn't, 6.__________(reject) it out of hand. We don't always like to accept new information that doesn't match up with what we already believe. As a result, we often don't even consider the reasons behind 7.__________ opposing point of view. Instead, we look for evidence that confirms 8.__________ we have already thought, and which conforms to our own point of view. We're more likely 9.__________(give) meaning to information that matches those we've already believed. In other words, we are biased(偏见) towards certain information. 10.__________ can come as a shock when information we trusted is actually exposed to be untrue. 表示“可能做某事”固定句型为be likely to do sth.。故填to give。 此处为固定句型“it can come as a shock ...”,表示“令人震惊的是……”,句首单词首字母要大写,故填It。 Ⅲ. ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ [参考范文] One day in the afternoon, after finishing bathing, it was almost 6 o'clock in the evening and my mother and I felt very hungry. Luckily, she brought a small cake in her bag. She gave it to me, but nothing to herself. But I also knew my mother would not accept it if I only said: “Mum, you are hungry, too.” “Why not try another way?” I thought for a while. Then I said, “Mum, the cake tastes terrible.” “The cake's delicious,” she said to herself while she was having it and understood me at once.We both laughed happily.
