But what might be even more untoward is figuring out how to get used to the new environment that you are working in when you do finally manage to get a new job. Here are some tips for dealing with the adjustment period. Be friendly to people. Any job is better when you are friends of the people that you are working with. You should be friendly to everyone that you are meeting. Actually listen to what these people tell you. Most people like making friends with those who are willing to listen. Stay positive. One of the things that make it difficult to adjust to a new job is negativity. If you automatically (无意识地) make judgments about things at the office that you aren't going to like, then you're going to find it difficult to approach the job with a positive attitude. Try to focus on the things that you like about the work and stay away from anyone that is saying negative things on the job. Keep relaxed. Accept the fact that you probably aren't going to get used to the new job immediately. You are going to make some mistakes. You are going to get confused or you're going to confuse others by doing things differently from what they're used to. Be relaxed. The thing that you really need to get used to a new job is just time. Getting used to a new job or a new work environment isn't easy, but it doesn't have to be particularly difficult either. Get to know the people that you are working with and the unspoken rules of the place by paying attention to what is going on around you and accepting that it's going to take some time to get used to it all! After you have adjusted to your new job, the way to do the job well is coming to the first question. 24.The underlined word “untoward” in Para.1 probably means “________”. Their new company, TeenServ, aims to solve teenage unemployment with a platform that matches students and community members who need shortterm assistance with various tasks. Through TeenServ, residents sign up to post jobs they need done. Teens signed up to work can choose to accept a job depending on their schedules and work preferences. Website users can pick up shifts wherever and whenever they want, making it convenient for hectic schedules. Jack Lannin, Quin Frew and Ben Jeannot worked as lifeguards at a local pool. Lannin told Tysons Reporter that they were upset when a pay change “almost cut their salary in half,” and they wanted to find another job but there were few options. Then they came up with the idea for TeenServ. “Aside from getting a real job, refereeing (担任裁判) sports or yard work, there isn't really a good way to make money,” Lannin said, adding that even becoming a referee requires a significant startup cost for teens—around $70—to pay for training and a uniform. They started out by going door to door and asking community members if they would pay teens fair wages for short-term yard work. Soon enough, they began gathering opportunities. With help from an entrepreneurship class at McLean High School and feedback from teens, the students were able to turn their idea into a reality. So far, the website has employed more than 200 teens, according to Lannin. TeenServ pays students up to $18 per hour—well above Virginia's minimum wage of $7.25. The business is focused on mostly McLean for now, but TeenServ's owners hope to expand around Fairfax County. That involves building up a base of teen workers before allowing residents to post jobs elsewhere in the county. After all, if residents need timespecific jobs done, they can't be the ones waiting. 28.What is TeenServ's goal? I am sure it means different things to different people. You could presently be unsure about what your final job would be. If you have any doubts about what your dream career is, you may know which careers you definitely would not like to do. For example, if you have an interest in art, and do not like math, you most certainly would not be an engineer. If you love art and have no artist talent, maybe you would like to be around art instead, as an art curator (馆长). A career related to your passion, hobby, or special interest, is the path to follow in finding your dream job. Try thinking about what things you like to do in your spare time. Many are attracted toward turning what they love to do in their off work hours into a full-time job. For example, if you like to put together model cars, maybe you would like opening your own hobby shop, or work for someone who owns one. Once you find what you are interested in doing, you can then match this to a career which will be similar to what you are passionate about. What you consider a dream career has to centre around what kind of person you actually are. This is called your Career Personality. What type of person do you consider yourself to be? People are naturally attracted to those things which reflect who they are as unique individuals. For example, if you are slightly on the shy side, maybe you would like a job where you work on your own, relatively unsupervised, behind a computer. If you are outgoing, maybe you would like to work with others and be the supervisor. All it may take to find our dream career is to know ourselves a little better, trust in our own judgment, and be realistic about what we can attain occupationally. This is how I found what I am doing now. 32.From the second paragraph we learn your dream career has something to do with the following EXCEPT ________. Our home is around the city center where easy shopping access and convenient transportation are available. We can offer one separate guest room for the student. My good command of English makes me free to communicate with foreigners in daily life. So I believe I will be a qualified host. If given the chance, I'll invite our guest to join in my family gettogether. Besides, we can show him/her around the city, getting the student to know more about real life and culture of China. In a word, I'm eager to provide an impressive trip for the foreign visitor. Hope you can take my application into consideration. In 1989, fresh out of high school, I had the difficult task of choosing a career path before college started in three months. In those days in Pakistan, there were limited options: becoming a doctor or an engineer, or entering the financial world after getting a business degree. I wasn't interested in engineering, so I was left with medicine or business. I couldn't decide. My uncle, an influential person in the family, suggested that I do a work placement to experience it for a month in an international company followed by a month in a hospital. After that, I could make a decision. It seemed like a brilliant idea. I was accepted for a month's placement at a foreign bank in Karachi. I got a feel for how the world of finance functioned, made new friends, and generally enjoyed the mostly easygoing work surroundings. The month passed rapidly, and soon I began working at a leading hospital in Karachi. The experience couldn't have been more different. The hospital had an intense environment. The days started early(at 7 am, compared to 9 am at the bank), and were filled with endless duties. And the night calls! This was crazy, working all day, through the night, and again the next day. I began thinking about my two experiences. The bank had offered a more relaxing atmosphere, better working hours and less stress. The hospital was full of excitement and unpredictability, but the studying and training was difficult. It seemed that the business option was going to win out. Near the end of my month at the hospital, I was driving home after an especially busy night call. In front of me was a public bus, with college students sitting on the top. As the driver weaved through (穿梭) traffic, I could see the boys shaking from side to side. Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. The next day, when I went to hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. [精彩范文] Suddenly, a boy fell off the back of the bus. He hit the road face down and rolled over. He lay motionless in the middle of the road as the bus drove away quickly. The cars directly behind the bus braked to avoid the boy, but none stopped. I knew that if the boy was bleeding into his brain, he could die soon. I stopped my car. I lifted his unconscious body into my car with the help of some passersby, and then raced back to the hospital. Since I wasn't allowed into the operation room, I drove home. The next day, when I went to hospital to see the boy, all his family got up, with grateful smiles on their faces. The mother held my hands and started weeping. “Son, you are an angel,” she repeated over and over again. After comforting her, I went over to the boy. He managed to smile and squeezed my hand. No words were spoken between us—none were needed. I spent the rest of the day in a state of excitement, the most fabulous mood I had ever experienced. I knew what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Text one, what are you doing?
