Many kinds of birds migrate (迁徙) every year, raising a family in one place during the warm summer months before flying to a warmer place to spend the cold winter months. In the northern half of the world, many birds fly north in the summer and south in the winter, looking for food and better conditions.
Many birds die along the way. Some of these deaths are the result of human actions, such as hunting or clearing huge areas of land that used to be used by migrating birds. But one of the biggest threats to migrating birds comes from things humans have built. Experts say that as many as one billion birds may die every year in the US alone as a result of flying into buildings. Other tall structures, such as power lines and cell towers, also lead to many bird deaths.
Buildings are a special challenge for migrating birds. The windows can reflect things like the sky or trees, causing birds to fly directly into the glass. And many birds migrate at night. As a result, the difficulty in migrating is amplified at night. That is because the bright city lights can confuse birds that are normally guided by the stars.
Philadelphia got a sad reminder of that last October when thousands of migrating birds were killed in one night. Over 1,000 birds were believed to have died in just one small area. Scientists still aren’t sure what made that night so bad, but it may have been connected with the low clouds over the city at the time.
Now the city begins a program called Lights Out Philly. Twice a year (from April 1 to May 31. and from August 15 to November 15), many of the city’s buildings go dark at night. The program, run by Bird Safe Philly, asks building owners and people who live in the area to keep the lights off between midnight and 6 in the morning. So far, many of the city’s best-known and tallest buildings have taken part in the program.
24.What does paragraph 2 tell us about the migration of birds?
A.It takes place once a year.
B.It can affect human activities.
C.It can be hard and dangerous.
D.It is caused by human actions sometimes.
25.What does the underlined word “amplified” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Increased. B.Reduced.
C.Handled. D.Replaced.
26.What does the program run by Bird Safe Philly ask people to do?
A.Stop hunting birds. B.Go out less at night.
C.Build homes for birds in cities. D.Tum off lights during the required time.
27.Why is Lights Out Philly started?
A.To protect the environment.
B.To educate the public on birds.
C.To cut the cost of electricity.
D.To help birds pass Philadelphia safely.

What is art? That’s an easy question to answer. Art is a painting, a drawing or a sculpture. Now there are new items to add to the list. Art is a dead shark in a glass case. Art is an unmade bed. Art is a video of a group of people standing completely still for sixty minutes.
A new group of young artists began to produce work that challenged the accepted idea of what art is and the role the artist should play in society. This group came to be known as the YBAs — the Young British Artists. The art of the YBAs does not just stick to painting and sculpture. It uses all kinds of different materials to express the feeling of the artist.
Damien Hirst is the most famous of the YBAs. The Shark in the Box is his work and is meant to express his own fear of dying. The shark stands for death. Right now, it is harmless. But eventually it will come for you. There is nothing to be done about it.
Traditionally, artists have a message. They use their skills to lead us to enlightenment (启迪). The message of the YBAs is that they cannot do this. They are just as mixed up and confused as everybody else. A journalist once asked Damien Hirst what his next idea was for an artwork. “I don’t know what I’m going to do next. I never know what I’m going to do next,” he replied.
Another YBA, Tracy Emin recently produced a work called “Bed”. This is just her own bed with the sheets disarranged and dirty. And the message? “Look at me — I’m a mess.”
Some artists work with the public in producing their work. Gillian Wearing filmed a group of people dressed as policemen trying to keep still for 60 minutes while standing on top of a table. At the end of that time, the table falls apart and everyone falls to the floor. You can try to be a good citizen and a respectable member of the community. But don’t try too hard or the pressure will be too much.
Art mirrors the state of society. In the work of the YBAs we can see a society on the threshold (开端) of the future — a bit worried, a bit excited and wondering what is going to happen next. The YBAs can’t guide us, but they can make the journey more interesting.
28.What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.The shark. B.Death.
C.The artwork. D.The fear.
29.What can be inferred from Tracy’s work “Bed”?
A.She needs to be taken care of. B.She sees the world as a dirty one.
C.She compares herself to the bed. D.She hopes for better living conditions.
30.In Gillian’s work, which of the following refers to a person who tries too hard?
A.The table. B.The floor.
C.60 minutes. D.The group of people.
31.What is the main purpose of the text?
A.To show the YBAs have made a difference in art.
B.To spread the message in the YBAs’ works.
C.To encourage more artists to join the YBAs.
D.To introduce the YBAs and their artworks.

Contemporary information retrieval systems stand at a crossroads, where DeepSeek’s neuro-symbolic architecture fundamentally subverts decades-old methodologies. Unlike traditional models constrained by the lexical-semantic dichotomy (词汇语义二分法) — where BM25 excels at term frequency optimization but falters in contextual inference, or Transformer-based models (BERT, DPR) that capture semantic subtle differences at prohibitive computational costs —DeepSeek pioneers adaptive sparse-dense fusion (稀疏-稠密结合). This technique dynamically allocates resources through a gating mechanism, achieving 87.3% precision in MIT’s TREC Complex Answer Retrieval benchmark while consuming merely 23% of DPR’s energy footprint.
The model’s dynamic sparse activation mechanism, selectively engaging only 12% of parameters per query, contrasts sharply with DSI’s memory-intensive full-parameter operations. Stanford’s comparative analysis reveals DeepSeek’s latency-vs-recall Pareto dominance: 11ms response time with 94% recall against DSI’s 37ms/96% tradeoff, a critical advantage in real-time applications like emergency response systems.
However, epistemological debates persist. While DeepSeek’s multi-hop reasoning capacity (validated by 92% accuracy on HotpotQA’s multi-document inference tasks) surpasses classical models, its gradient-disentangled representation learning raises philosophical concerns. The 2023 ACL meta-study documents instances where the model’s compressed knowledge distillation inadvertently erased low-resource language morphological patterns, prompting UNESCO (联合国教科文组织) to draft ethical guidelines for cognitive bias propagation in AI-mediated search.
Commercial adoption patterns prove equally transformative. Bloomberg reports that DeepSeek-powered financial analytics platforms reduced fraudulent transaction identification time from 9.2 to 1.4 seconds, outperforming IBM’s Watson Discovery by 18.7% in F1 scores. Yet, its black-box query reformulation process remains contentious-the European AI Office recently mandated transparency protocols after DeepSeek’s explainability metrics scored 0.48 on the LIRE framework(vs. 0.72 for interpretable systems like Elastic Learned Sparse Encoder).Notes: DSI (Dimension Strategies) is a framework related to dimension strategies in the field of AI by Microsoft.
32.What technological breakthrough enables DeepSeek’s energy efficiency?
A.Full-parameter optimization. B.Gradient-disentangled learning.
C.Adaptive sparse-dense fusion. D.Lexical-semantic dichotomy.
33.Which metric highlights DeepSeek’s real-time application superiority?
A.92% accuracy on HotpotQA B.11ms response time with 94% recall
C.0.48 LIRE explainability score D.87.3% TREC precision rate
34.What ethical concern arises from DeepSeek’s design?
A.Excessive energy consumption. B.Propagation of cognitive biases.
C.Slow fraud detection speeds. D.Overly transparent operations.
35.How does the neuro-symbolic integration address model limitations?
A.By prioritizing speed over accuracy.
B.Through compressed knowledge distillation.
C.Using multi-hop reasoning capacity.
D.Via dynamic parameter activation.

What Are Teenager Problems with Parents?
Teenhood is a period of life in which there are so many physical, emotional, and intellectual changes. 36 They may have a constant conflict with their parents because they want to declare (宣布) their independence and be in control of their lives. Some common problems teenagers have with their parents are as follows.
Too much control over their teens. Teens wish to become a master of their own life as much as possible. Micromanaging their life can make them more rebellious (叛逆的). 37 There should be a balance between both, and teenagers should understand their limits.
Lack of communication. Lack (缺少) of communication is the most significant issue during this period. 38 They occasionally infringe on (侵犯) their children’s privacy. Teenagers will get upset by such offensive behavior and tend to be more rebellious.
Giving unnecessary advice. Often, teenagers do not appreciate unnecessary advice from their parents. Every time parents offer advice to the teenager, they pass on the message that their children are unskilled in solving their own problems. 39
Challenging their parents’ beliefs. Teenagers like to question their parents. 40 Often, parents fail to reason their teenagers about their beliefs. It seems that teenagers don’t recognize the so-called beliefs which are said to be based on their parents’ life experiences. Teenagers regularly argue with their parents in this context.
A.Teens never like to be controlled.
B.However, it can create a worse cycle.
C.This, in turn, can discourage teenagers.
D.Teenagers might be dealing with a variety of issues at this age.
E.Many parents find their teenagers rude, moody, and disagreeing.
F.On the contrary, too much freedom can also have a negative impact.
G.They do so because they have their own ideas about how things should be.

Baraka sat quietly in his new classroom. He was a boy who had moved from Tanzania to Chicago with his family. His heart was heavy with homesickness. The laughter and soccer games of his homeland felt like a distant dream, and in this new land, Baraka found himself unhappy. And he didn’t want to play with the other kids or join any after-school activities.
Miss Garcia, his teacher, noticed Baraka’s sadness. She saw how he kept to himself during lunch and didn’t join in class activities. Miss Garcia decided to talk to Baraka’s parents to understand why he was in such low spirits. Miss Garcia invited Baraka’s parents for a cup of tea. “Baraka seems to be struggling to adapt,” she said, her voice filled with concern. “He seems to be quite lonely.”
Baraka’s parents shared their worries. “We moved here for work,” they explained. “We thought it would be an adventure for him, but Baraka feels like he’s lost his friends and his home.” Miss Garcia knew she had to do something special for Baraka. She wanted to give him a gift that would show him he wasn’t alone and that his past was still a part of him.
On Baraka’s birthday, Miss Garcia had a surprise for him. “Today, we celebrate not just a birthday, but a journey,” she announced to the class. “We have a special gift for Baraka.” The lights in the classroom dimmed (变暗), and a video began to play. It was a travel video of Tanzania, the land Baraka missed so much. Baraka’s eyes lit up as he saw the familiar scenes of his homeland.
After the video, Baraka’s classmates approached (走近) him one by one. Each held a postcard with a picture of Tanzania.

18.What is the weather like on the Faroe Islands?
A.It is cool and wet.
B.It changes greatly with seasons.
C.It is windy and cold all year round.
19.In which year did the islands become independent?

20.What are the Faroe Islands famous for?
A.Their various food.
B.Their film festivals.
C.Their traditional clothing.
【答案】18.A 19.B 20.C
【原文】
The Faroe Islands are small islands located between Norway and Iceland. The coasts are mostly rocky cliffs, and the climate is cool all year round, with high winds and a lot of rain. People have lived on the Faroe Islands since 400 A. D. They possibly traveled there from Ireland, Scotland, and Scandinavia. In the eleventh century, the islands were taken over by Norway, who ruled until 1814 when Denmark then took control. In 1940, Britain invaded the islands. They built an airport, but control eventually went back to Denmark after World War II. In 1973, the Faroe Islands decided not to join Denmark in the European Union and became an independent country. The Faroe Islands have kept much of their traditional culture. They speak Faroese. Their food isn’t very exciting — mainly meat, potatoes, and fish. However, there is an active music scene on the islands, and live music is very popular. The islands hold many music festivals, and have produced several well-known bands. The islands are also known for their traditional clothing, including handmade items of wool and silk.

【答案】24.C 25.A 26.D 27.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍的是鸟类迁徙面临的挑战及费城为保护鸟类实施的“Lights Out Philly”计划。
24.推理判断题。根据第二段中的“Many birds die along the way. Some of these deaths are the result of human actions, such as hunting or clearing huge areas of land that used to be used by migrating birds. But one of the biggest threats to migrating birds comes from things humans have built.(许多鸟类在迁徙途中死亡。其中一些死亡是人类活动的结果,如狩猎或清除曾经被迁徙鸟类使用的广阔土地。然而,对迁徙鸟类而言,最大的威胁之一来自于人类建造的结构。)”可知,鸟在迁徙途中的一些死亡是人类活动造成,由此可知,鸟类在迁徙过程中会遇到许多危险,包括来自人类行为和建筑物的威胁。故选C。
25.词句猜测题。根据划线单词前的“And many birds migrate at night.(许多鸟类在夜间迁徙。)”以及划线单词后的“That is because the bright city lights can confuse birds that are normally guided by the stars.(那是因为明亮的城市灯光会让那些通常依靠星星导航的鸟类感到困惑。)”可知,由于明亮的城市灯光会让那些通常依靠星星导航的鸟类感到困惑,所以在夜间迁徙的困难应该是增大,由此可知,划线单词的意思是“增大,扩大”,与“Increased”相近。故选A。
26.细节理解题。根据尾段中的“The program, run by Bird Safe Philly, asks building owners and people who live in the area to keep the lights off between midnight and 6 in the morning.(由Bird Safe Philly运行的该项目,要求建筑业主和居住在该区域的人们在午夜至早上6点之间关闭灯光。)”可知,该项目要求人们在规定时间内关灯。故选D。
27.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中的“Philadelphia got a sad reminder of that last October when thousands of migrating birds were killed in one night.(去年十月,费城在一个晚上就有数千只迁徙中的鸟类被杀死,这给了费城一个悲伤的提醒。)”以及尾段中的“Now the city begins a program called Lights Out Philly.(现在,该城市启动了一个名为“Lights Out Philly”的计划。)”可知,费城在一个晚上就有数千只迁徙中的鸟类被杀死,因此而启动了“Lights Out Philly”计划,由此可推断,“Lights Out Philly”计划是为了帮助鸟类安全通过费城。故选D。

【答案】28.B 29.C 30.A 31.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一群英国青年艺术家以及他们的作品形式和意义。
28.代词指代题。根据第三段中的“The Shark in the Box is his work and is meant to express his own fear of dying. The shark stands for death. Right now, it is harmless. But eventually it will come for you. (《盒子里的鲨鱼》是他的作品,是为了表达他对死亡的恐惧。鲨鱼代表死亡。现在,它是无害的。但最终它会来找你)”可知,it指代“death”,即死亡现在与“我”无关,但死亡最终会来临。故选B。
29.推理判断题。根据第五段中的“This is just her own bed with the sheets disarranged and dirty. And the message? ‘Look at me — I’m a mess.’(这只是她自己的床,床单又乱又脏。那表达了什么呢?‘看看我,我一团糟。’)”可推知,Tracy是将自己比作床。故选C。
30.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中的“Gillian Wearing filmed a group of people dressed as policemen trying to keep still for 60 minutes while standing on top of a table. At the end of that time, the table falls apart and everyone falls to the floor.(Gillian Wearing拍摄了一群人装扮成警察站在桌子上保持静止60分钟的视频。在这段时间结束时,桌子散了,所有人都倒在了地板上)”可知,在Gillian的作品中,站在桌子上的人和所站的时间表示压力,桌子则为压力的承受者。故选A。
31.目的意图题。根据第二段中的“A new group of young artists began to produce work that challenged the accepted idea of what art is and the role the artist should play in society. This group came to be known as the YBAs — the Young British Artists.(一群新的年轻艺术家开始创作作品,挑战了人们对艺术是什么以及艺术家在社会中应该扮演的角色的公认观念。这个团体后来被称为 YBAs—英国青年艺术家)”以及下文中的例子可推知,本文通过三个实例,主要介绍YBAs及作品是什么样的。故选D。

Contemporary information retrieval systems stand at a crossroads, where DeepSeek’s neuro-symbolic architecture fundamentally subverts decades-old methodologies. Unlike traditional models constrained by the lexical-semantic dichotomy (词汇语义二分法) — where BM25 excels at term frequency optimization but falters in contextual inference, or Transformer-based models (BERT, DPR) that capture semantic subtle differences at prohibitive computational costs —DeepSeek pioneers adaptive sparse-dense fusion (稀疏-稠密结合). This technique dynamically allocates resources through a gating mechanism, achieving 87.3% precision in MIT’s TREC Complex Answer Retrieval benchmark while consuming merely 23% of DPR’s energy footprint.
The model’s dynamic sparse activation mechanism, selectively engaging only 12% of parameters per query, contrasts sharply with DSI’s memory-intensive full-parameter operations. Stanford’s comparative analysis reveals DeepSeek’s latency-vs-recall Pareto dominance: 11ms response time with 94% recall against DSI’s 37ms/96% tradeoff, a critical advantage in real-time applications like emergency response systems.
However, epistemological debates persist. While DeepSeek’s multi-hop reasoning capacity (validated by 92% accuracy on HotpotQA’s multi-document inference tasks) surpasses classical models, its gradient-disentangled representation learning raises philosophical concerns. The 2023 ACL meta-study documents instances where the model’s compressed knowledge distillation inadvertently erased low-resource language morphological patterns, prompting UNESCO (联合国教科文组织) to draft ethical guidelines for cognitive bias propagation in AI-mediated search.
Commercial adoption patterns prove equally transformative. Bloomberg reports that DeepSeek-powered financial analytics platforms reduced fraudulent transaction identification time from 9.2 to 1.4 seconds, outperforming IBM’s Watson Discovery by 18.7% in F1 scores. Yet, its black-box query reformulation process remains contentious-the European AI Office recently mandated transparency protocols after DeepSeek’s explainability metrics scored 0.48 on the LIRE framework(vs. 0.72 for interpretable systems like Elastic Learned Sparse Encoder).Notes: DSI (Dimension Strategies) is a framework related to dimension strategies in the field of AI by Microsoft.
32.What technological breakthrough enables DeepSeek’s energy efficiency?
A.Full-parameter optimization. B.Gradient-disentangled learning.
C.Adaptive sparse-dense fusion. D.Lexical-semantic dichotomy.
33.Which metric highlights DeepSeek’s real-time application superiority?

38.上文“Lack (缺少) of communication is the most significant issue during this period. (在这个时期,缺乏沟通是最主要的问题)”指出缺乏沟通是最主要的问题。E选项“Many parents find their teenagers rude, moody, and disagreeing. (许多父母发现他们的青少年粗鲁、喜怒无常且爱顶嘴)”承接上文,说明因为缺乏沟通导致父母对青少年不理解,同时引出下文“They occasionally infringe on (侵犯) their children’s privacy.(他们偶尔会侵犯孩子的隐私)”中一种更不和谐的关系,上下文逻辑连贯。故选E项。
39.上文“Every time parents offer advice to the teenager, they pass on the message that their children are unskilled in solving their own problems. (每次父母给青少年建议时,他们传达出的信息是他们的孩子不擅长解决自己的问题)”说明父母提建议带来的不好影响。C选项“This, in turn, can discourage teenagers. (这反过来会让青少年灰心丧气)”承接上文,指出这种影响会让青少年受挫,符合逻辑。故选C项。
40.上文“Teenagers like to question their parents. (青少年喜欢质疑他们的父母)”提出青少年质疑父母的现象。G选项“They do so because they have their own ideas about how things should be. (他们这样做是因为他们对事情应该是怎样的有自己的想法)”解释了青少年质疑父母的原因,上下文逻辑连贯。故选G项。

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 On the back of each card were messages of friendship and welcome. “Baraka, your home is beautiful,” one classmate wrote. “I hope to learn more about it from you.” “Happy birthday, Baraka,” another message read. “Your stories have shown me a world I never knew.” Baraka’s eyes were filled with tears as he read each message. He looked at Miss Garcia and smiled, his heart full of gratitude. “Baraka,” Miss Garcia said, “you are part of our class, and we are part of your journey. We celebrate your roots and your future together.”
From that day on, Baraka started to feel more at home. He began to share stories of Tanzania with his classmates and teach them about his culture. He even started a small Tanzanian culture club after school, where students could learn about Tanzanian music, dance, and traditional games. His smile returned, brighter than ever, as he found a way to blend his past with his present, creating a future filled with promise and friendship. The special gift from Miss Garcia not only celebrated his birthday but also paved the way for Baraka to truly belong.

On the back of each card were messages of friendship and welcome.
