Although the piano keys come in black and white, the music it produces is full of color. Chinese pianist Tian Jiaxin explores creative performances and crossover cooperations with traditional Chinese music, with the hope of bringing the music of the East to the Western world.
Tian attended regular school instead of studying at a music school in her childhood. This enabled her to absorb China's rich culture and understand the bigger picture later in her pursuit of a career as a professional pianist. “There's so much to grasp when explaining a piece. What we' re conveying is not only the notes, but the culture behind the music,” Tian said.
As a Chinese pianist, Tian is looking to add more depth to her performances, stressing the contrast between Eastern and Western cultures. “No matter which country I am performing in, I always include Chinese music in my program. With Western pieces, I hope to show the world that a female musician from China can perform the music that they are familiar with and love. ” Tian says that she believes her mission is to make China heard on a wider stage.
Tian believes that music is developing over time and that music from different ages has its own unique meaning. “I've found that people's understanding of Chinese music is often limited to certain pieces like Jasmine Flower,” Tian said. “However, there are so many great pieces of Chinese music that are unacquainted outside of China. So, I always try to feature both the time- honored classics of Chinese music and the newly created pieces,” she added.
“Chinese music has the magic to cause resonance (共鸣) with the audience and convey the various and deep culture of Chinese civilization,” Tian said.
24. What can we learn about Tian Jiaxin from the text?
A. She prepared well before performing. B. She adapted unknown Chinese pieces.
C. She aimed at making China heard widely. D. She went to music school at a young age.
25. Which of the following best explains “unacquainted” underlined in paragraph 4?
A. Unknown. B. Unpopular. C. Unacceptable. D. Unlimited.
26. What does Tian say about Chinese music?
A. It is setting the fashion. B. It delivers rich culture of China.
C. It develops at a low speed. D. It holds little appeal for foreigners.
27. What can be the most suitable title for the text?
A. Chinese Culture Fueling International Music Trends
B. Differences Between Eastern and Western Music
C. A New Generation of Artists Promoting Chinese Culture
D. A Pianist Combining Chinese Music with Western Keys

Chinese AI Model DeepSeek-R1 Stuns (震惊) the World
January 20,2025,a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeekR1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code (代码) , and answer questions like top models such as OpenAl’s GPT-40, but it costs much less to build. The team spent only $5.58 million (1/70 of OpenAI’s cost) and used 2,048 computer chips for two months. This shows that good ideas can beat big money.
DeepSeek-R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practice maths. Other AIs need lots of prepared examples, but R1 improves by itself. For example, in a global math test, it got 79.8% right, slightly higher than OpenAI’s model. A simple version of R1 can even run on low-cost computers, helping schools and small companies.
DeepSeek-R1 is free to use and change. On its first day online, over 19,000 programmers worldwide started projects to study it. A German scientist said experiments with R1 cost $10 instead of $300 with other AIs. Even Meta (a famous U. S. tech company) top scientist said, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
U. S. tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend $65 billion more on AI research. Experts say China is catching up fast. A report in Nature magazine called R1 a “big step forward”, proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools.
As a DeepSeek engineer said, “We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use.” With R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.
28. What is the main purpose of the article?
A. To compare Chinese and American AI technologies
B. To explain how computer chips work.
C. To introduce a low-cost AI model from China.
D. To encourage students to become programmers
29. What does the underlined “improves by itself” mean in paragraph 2?
A. It needs programmers to fix mistakes. B. It becomes better through practice.
C. It copies answers from other AIs. D. It only works with expensive tools.
30. Why did Meta plan to spend more money on AI research?
A. To help Chinese companies.
B. To build more computer chips.
C. To keep up with advancements like DeepSeek-R1.
D. To hire German scientists.
31. What does the writer think is the most important for success?
A. Having enough money. B. Copying other countries ideas.
C. Using the latest computer chips. D. Creativity and tireless efforts.

Sometimes what my seven-year-old tabby cat Ophelia wants is obvious. Crying in front of her empty food bowl at dinner time clearly indicates she’s at risk of starvation. Other times, though, her meows are a complete and total mystery.
That’s where Sergei Dreizin and Mark Boyes, computer scientists at Akvelon, a software engineering company based in Bellevue, Washington, say they can help. They are the brains behind the MeowTalk app, which aims to “give cat owners the best tools available” for interpreting their pet’s needs.
When Boyes and Dreizin were looking for data to inform their new app, they came across 2019 research that revealed cat meows contain certain shared characteristics. The study authors then built a computer program to analyze audio recordings of 21 adult cats meowing.
The MeowTalk founders used these audio recordings of tens of thousands of meows to develop their computer models, which is fueled by artificial intelligence. And it worked. 2021 study found MeowTalk can classify nine feline (猫科的) phrases with 90 percent accuracy.
The free app records your feline’s meows and translates them into a small range of phrases, such as “I’m annoyed.” and “Feed me!” Users can rate the accuracy of MeowTalk’s translations, which further improves the computer model. Launched in November 2020, the app has been downloaded over 20 million times, and Dreizin estimates that the program has analyzed over a billion meows to date. “We’re the largest depositors of meows in this galaxy,” he quips.
The app is part of an expanding suite of technologies designed to help us communicate with our furry friends. Another is FluentPet, which trains your pet to press buttons to communicate a need; for instance, a cat can learn to press a button that says the word “play”.
Cat behaviorist and communication expert Charlotte de Mouzon isn’t convinced of these products’ accuracy, but strengthening your relationship with your cat is always a wise goal. “If people play with the app, maybe they will become more attentive to their cats,” says de Mouzon, of Paris Nanterre University.
32. How can computer scientists at Akvelon help cat owners?
A. By making cats’ needs fulfilled.
B. By getting cats rid of starvation.
C. By filling the empty food bowls.
D. By solving the mysteries of cats’ meows.
33. What can be inferred from paragraph 5?
A. Users think the app very helpful.
B. Users can help to promote the app.
C. Dreizin thinks the app is the most accurate.
D. The program has analyzed billions of meows.
34. What’s Charlotte’s attitude to this kind of apps?
A. Doubtful. B. Conservative. C. Positive. D. Negative.
35. What is the purpose of the the text?
A. To comment on two apps.
B. To compare two similar apps.
C. To introduce the new technology.
D. To recommend an app to cats’ owners.

When my daughters reached the third and fourth grades, I sometimes allowed them to walk to and from school alone if the weather permitted. One warm spring day, a little dog followed them home after school. It had short legs and long lovely ears. It was the cutest dog I had ever seen and the girls begged me to keep it.
The dog was about twelve weeks old. It had no collar (项圈) or identifying marks of any sort. I didn’t know what to do. I thought about posting an advertisement but I really didn’t want to. It would break the kids’ hearts if someone should show up. Besides, its owners should have watched it more closely.
By the end of the week the dog was part of our family. It was very intelligent and good with the girls. The following week something told me to check the lost-and-found section in the local paper. One particular advertisement jumped out at me and my heart beat with fear for what I read. Someone was begging for the return of a lost dog in the neighborhood of our grade school. The owner sounded extremely eager. My hand shook, and I couldn’t bring myself to pick up the paper.
Instead, I pretended I hadn’t seen the advertisement. I quickly put paper away in the drawer and continued with my dusting. I never said a word about it to the kids or my husband.
By then we had named the dog. It was Kevin, so we called it Kevin. It followed the girls everywhere they went. When they went outside, it was one step behind them. When they did the housework, it was there to lend a hand.
There was only one problem with this seemingly perfect picture: my conscience (良心) was bothering me. I wondered in my heart whether I had to call that number in the paper and see if our Kevin was the dog they were desperately seeking. It was the most difficult thing for me to do.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;

When I was leaving here about ten years ago, I decided to go to college, which when I think about IT, is a little strange because I come from a family where no one had ever gone to college. Everything I knew about college came from the movies. Once in college, I got a classic case of too much fun and two little class time. At the end of my second year, my major professor warned me, you're never going to graduate unless something big changes. But IT wasn't until I entered my graduate program in conservation ecology that I felt I was on the right path. My conservation work has brought me joy, excitement and adventure. I've done some research in the remote mountains of california. I've had dinners with important politicians. I've even stepped over snakes in africa. But most important of all, IT gave me something bigger than myself to fight for. When I look back, I feel fortunate to have chosen college and particularly science, through which I have rediscovered myself and achieved liberation. And i'm sure you all can do the same.
C 25. A 26. B 27. D
根据文章第三段“Tian says that she believes her mission is to make China heard on a wider stage.(田佳鑫说她相信自己的使命是让中国在更广阔的舞台上被听到)”可知,她的目标是让中国在更广泛的范围内被听到。
根据划线词上文“I've found that people's understanding of Chinese music is often limited to certain pieces like Jasmine Flower(我发现人们对中国音乐的理解往往局限于某些曲目,如《茉莉花》)”以及第三句“However, there are so many great pieces of Chinese music that are unacquainted outside of China. (然而,有许多伟大的中国音乐作品在国外是unacquainted)”可知,这里是说除了《茉莉花》等少数曲目外,很多中国音乐作品在国外是不被人所知的。由此可知,划线词unacquainted的意思是“未知的”,与unknown意思相近。故选A项。
根据文章最后一段“Chinese music has the magic to cause resonance(共鸣) with the audience and convey the various and deep culture of Chinese civilization(中国音乐具有与观众产生共鸣并传达中国文明丰富而深厚文化的魔力)”可知,中国音乐传达了中国丰富的文化。
根据文章第一段“Although the piano keys come in black and white, the music it produces is full of color. Chinese pianist Tian Jiaxin explores creative performances and crossover cooperations with traditional Chinese music, with the hope of bringing the music of the East to the Western world.(虽然钢琴键只有黑白两色,但它所演奏出的音乐却充满色彩。中国钢琴家田佳鑫致力于创造性的表演,并与中国传统音乐进行跨界合作,期望将东方音乐带到西方世界)”可知,第一段介绍了中国钢琴家田佳鑫探索将中国传统音乐与西方音乐结合的表演,再根据第二段“Tian attended regular school instead of studying at a music school in her childhood. This enabled her to absorb China's rich culture and understand the bigger picture later in her pursuit of a career as a professional pianist.(田佳鑫在童年时期选择了就读普通学校,而非音乐学校。

C 29. B 30. C 31. D

通读全文可知,文章开篇提到“January 20, 2025, a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek made a new AI called DeepSeek - R1. This smart program can solve math problems, write code, and answer questions like top models such as OpenAI’s GPT - 40, but it costs much less to build.(2025年1月20日,中国科技公司DeepSeek研发出名为DeepSeek - R1的新型人工智能。这款智能程序能解决数学题、编写代码、回答问题,性能媲美OpenAI的GPT - 40 等顶尖模型,但开发成本低得多。)”,接着后文围绕DeepSeek - R1的学习方式、使用成本、对全球的影响等方面进行介绍,所以文章主要目的是介绍中国的低成本AI模型 DeepSeek - R1。故选C项。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段“DeepSeek - R1 learns by trying many times and getting better, like how students practice maths. Other AIs need lots of prepared examples, but R1 improves by itself.(DeepSeek - R1 通过反复尝试、逐步改进的方式学习,就像学生练习数学题一样。其他 AI 需要大量标注范例,但R1能 improves by itself。)”可知,DeepSeek-R1像学生练习数学一样,通过多次尝试变得更好。由此可知,此处为“但是R1能通过练习自己提升”,所以improves by itself意思是“通过自身练习变得更好”。故选B项。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段“U.S. tech companies are worried. Meta plans to spend $65 billion more on AI research.(美国科技公司感到担忧。Meta 计划在人工智能研究上再投入650亿美元。)”可知,Meta计划投入更多资金是因为中国AI的发展让美国科技公司感到了压力,它想跟上像DeepSeek-R1这样的进步。故选C项。
【31题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“As a DeepSeek engineer said, ‘We want AI to be a friend, not something only rich people can use.’ With R1, China shows the world that great things come from new ideas and hard work, not just money.(正如一位 DeepSeek 工程师所说:‘我们希望人工智能成为朋友,而不是只有富人才能使用的东西。’通过 R1,中国向世界表明,伟大的成就源于创新思维与辛勤努力,而不仅仅是金钱。)”可知,作者认为成功最重要的是创造力和不懈的努力。故选D项。

Sometimes, what my seven-year-old tabby cat Ophelia wants is obvious.

Instead I pretended I hadn’t seen the advertisement.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
But I had to make a decision.

The woman said, “Where is my dog? I would like to have a look at it.”
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
One possible version:
But I had to make a decision. With mixed feelings, I finally picked up my mobilephone. With butterflies in my stomach, I dialed the telephone number. Secretly, I prayed no one would answer, but someone did. The voice on the other end was that of a young woman. After describing the dog to her in detail, she immediately wanted to come over. I said that my daughters loved it very much and meanwhile apologized for not having contacted her a few days before. 30 minutes later, the bell rang and Kevin was barking. I opened the door, forcing myself to face the case.
The woman said, “Where is my dog? I would like to have a look at it.” I asked the woman to come in and she quickly bent over and hugged Kevin tightly. Kevin started wagging its tail and barking excitedly as if it had recognized someone familiar. Surprised and excited, the woman told me that she couldn’t sleep well without it and thanked us for keeping her dog for these days. She offered to give me some cash as a reward, but I refused. After she took Kevin away, I cracked a smile. I knew I had done the right thing—that puppy should return to its original owner.
