Gutiérrez’s life would never be the same again after finding a copy of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy in the garbage 20 years ago. It happened while he was driving his garbage truck through wealthier neighbourhoods at night and seeing abandoned books. It aroused his desire to start rescuing books from the garbage. He used to take home between 50 and 60 books every morning. Eventually, he turned his book collection into a community library for children from low-income families.
Colombia’s capital city of Bogota has 19 public libraries. However, these libraries tend to be far away from where rural and poorer communities live. The option of buying new books is non-existent for families struggling to make ends meet. Gutiérrez’s community library is a true representation of how one man’s garbage can be another’s treasure.
Gutiérrez grew up poor, and his family could not afford to educate him beyond primary school. Nevertheless, his mother was a passionate reader and read stories to him every night. Her love for books left a deep impression on Gutiérrez.
Today, his makeshift community library, called “The Strength of Words”, occupies most of and is home in southern Bogota, his home in southern Bogota, his home in southern and non-fiction titles. Everything from school textbooks to storybooks can be found in his collection of more than 20,000 books! As word began to spread about his amazing project, people began sending him thousands more books to grow his library.
Despite having done so much for his community, Gutiérrez is not yet content to call it a day. He continues to search through garbage cans for reading materials. Today, the Gutiérrez family does not merely want to start libraries in neighbourhoods. They want to create spaces for school children to spend their time reading.
Gutiérrez’s journey to give back to his local community is an amazing example of how every one of us can improve the lives of those around us. How might we take a leaf out of Gutiérrez’s books and impact the less fortunate around us?
24.What inspired Gutiérrez to rescue unwanted books?
A.The abandoned Anna Karenina. B.Leo Tolstoy’s life.
C.Children’s living conditions. D.A community-library.
25.Why did Gutiérrez start “The Strength of Words”?
A.To create a harmonious neighborhood. B.To give his mother sufficient books.
C.To facilitate children’s reading. D.To improve the community life.
26.What can best describe Gutiérrez?
A.Devoted and talented. B.Adventurous and generous.
C.Passionate and well-educated. D.Dedicated and caring.
27.What would be the best title for the text?
A.Desire for reading B.From garbage to treasure
C.Gutiérrez’s kindness D.An amazing model of education
C
Hadeda ibises, known as “African alarm clocks” for their loud calls, have long legs and thin beaks (鸟喙) and shiny feathers on their wings. Historically restricted to northeastern South Africa, hadedas have expanded (扩张) their range to many urban (都市) areas.
Various ibises use remote-touch to detect (探测) movements of prey (猎物) in the soil and locate their hidden place. This ability is facilitated by a sensory organ in their beaks, called the bill-tip organ, which developed during the time of the dinosaurs. My recent research confirmed that hadedas have this “sixth sense” and found it is closely tied to soil moisture (湿度) levels.
We conducted sensory tests with hadedas in birdcages. We presented them with boxes of soil containing buried worms, masking any sounds with white noise and mixing dead worms into the soil to remove scent cues (线索). The birds consistently found live worms faster than dead ones, indicating they are able to sense movements of prey and use remote-touch to find them.
Further testing revealed that hadedas found worms more quickly in wetter soils. If the soil was too dry, they lost this ability and had to rely on random searching. These findings suggest that the hadedas’ expansion in South Africa is related to increased artificial watering systems. They require wet soil to use remote-touch effectively, which could explain their absence in dry regions. Droughts (干旱) and heatwaves, expected to worsen with climate change, could threaten their population by making prey detection more challenging.
The study highlights the broader implications for other remote-touch hunting birds, many of which are already endangered. As soil moisture levels decrease, these birds could become more at risk, stressing the importance of considering sensory requirements in conservation efforts.
28.What do we know about hadeda ibises?
A.They are known for shiny feathers. B.They barely see any rise in numbers.
C.They recall images of the dinosaurs. D.They have a specialized sensory organ.
29.Why were white noise and dead worms used in the experiment?
A.To copy natural habitats. B.To get a more reliable result.
C.To calm down the birds. D.To add experimental items.
30.What does the research suggest about the impact of climate change on hadedas?
A.Climate change will decrease their reliance on soil moisture.
B.Rising temperatures could increase their feeding efficiency.
C.Droughts could make it more difficult for them to find prey.
D.Increased rainfall will help them relocate to urbanized areas.
31.What does the text mainly talk about?
A.Hadedas’ prey detection in wet soil. B.The specialty of hadedas’ organs.
C.The masters of dryland hunting. D.Hadedas ibises’ urban expansion.
D
In recent years, a unique trend called “mukbang (吃播) ” has swept across social media platforms, captivating millions of viewers worldwide. Originating in South Korea around the early 2010s, the term “mukbang” combines two Korean words: meokda (to eat) and bangsong (broadcast). It refers to live or recorded videos where hosts consume large quantities of food while interacting with their audience. This trend reflects not only changing entertainment preferences but also deeper social shifts.
Mukbangs first gained popularity in South Korea as a response to rising loneliness in urban societies. Many people, especially those living alone, found comfort in watching others eat and chat, creating a sense of shared mealtime companionship. The hosts often described flavors, reacted to food textures, or shared personal stories, turning a simple meal into an interactive experience. Over time, mukbangs evolved into a global phenomenon, with creators adapting the format to local cuisines and cultures.
The appeal of mukbangs lies in their ability to satisfy multiple human desires. For some, it triggers ASMR (Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response), a relaxing sensation caused by sounds like chewing or swallowing food. Others get utmost pleasure from the visual feast of colorful dishes or the novelty of watching hosts taking up extreme eating challenges. Additionally, mukbangs serve as escapism, offering stress relief in fast-paced modern lifestyles. During the COVID-19 pandemic, their popularity surged as people sought virtual connections and entertainment at home.
However, mukbangs have sparked debates. Critics argue that promoting excessive eating normalizes unhealthy habits, contributing to obesity and food waste. Environmental concerns also arise, as some videos feature single-use plastics or unsustainable food quantities. Despite these issues, supporters highlight mukbangs’ positive aspects, such as fostering global culinary (食物的) curiosity and supporting small food businesses through influencer collaborations.
As technology continues to shape how we consume content, mukbangs represent a fascinating blend of culture, entertainment, and human connection. Whether viewed as a passing trend or a lasting digital ritual, they undeniably reflect the evolving ways people seek comfort and community in an increasingly online world.
32.What does the underlined word “captivating” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Engaging. B.Feeding. C.Understanding. D.Avoiding.
33.Which of the following may hold much appeal for viewers?
A.Chewing some tender food. B.Cooking whatever the hosts eat.
C.Interacting with the hosts face to face. D.Watching the hosts wolfing down strange food.
34.What is a concern critics have about mukbangs?
A.Dislike for social interactions. B.Harmful effect on the environment.
C.Reduced interest in traditional food. D.Food waste and loss of culinary culture.
35.What does the author agree with according to the last paragraph?
A.They are natural products of technology. B.They reflect modern needs for friendship.
C.They will soon be replaced by new trends. D.They help people find comfort in the virtual world.

Travel locally.
If a vacation is what you need, try choosing nearby destinations and staying local. Surprise yourself by discovering the nearby attractions. This way, you get to save time and money and avoid air travel, which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
37 . Avoid eating at multinational chain restaurants or shopping in large supermarkets and brand stores. Instead, choose small businesses to help stimulate the local economy. This way, you’re helping keep people employed and preventing transportation across far distances.
Choose green accommodation.
38 .
To ensure this, you may need to find answers to questions like if the hotel is certified, or if it has a sustainability report, or what their waste management protocol (方案) and plastic policy . look like, or if their products and menus are locally sourced, and so on.
Use sustainable transport. Flying can seem easy and attractive, but it’s especially harmful to the environment. If your destination can be reached by train, consider opting for it. While exploring cities, cycling and walking are recommended. 39 If you have no option but to fly, consider booking non-stop flights instead of having layovers (中途停留)。
Go paperless.
A lot of attractions accept mobile tickets. 40 By going paperless, you not only help the environment but also avoid losing tickets and enjoy easy access to them at the same time.
A.This prevents travelers from printing boarding passes, hotel reservations, and entry tickets.
B.Always switch off lights before leaving your room.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I run a photography studio in the heart of the city, specializing in children’s portraits. From high-end modeling shoots to heartwarming sibling photos and lovely birth announcements, we cover it all. Our studio is always busy, and as is stated on our website, we don’t accept walk-ins. With bookings scheduled six months in advance, it’s non-stop. One evening, just ten minutes before closing, a mother walked in with a young girl, around six or seven years old, following her. I felt quite annoyed — I really needed to close up.
The mother said, “Hello. I know you’re closing soon, but I have a special favor to ask.” At that moment, the little girl peeked out from behind her mother’s legs, her eyes scanning nervously around the room. She glanced at the beautiful portraits of healthy, smiling children hanging on the walls, and the expression on her face was a mix of longing and self-consciousness. She seemed to know she didn’t look like the other kids in the photos. Under her thick winter coat and hat, she looked weak, with dark circles under her eyes. She had no hair, and a tube was taped to her cheek, feeding into her nose. It was clear she was very ill.
The mother continued, her voice shaking, “My daughter saw one of your photos at the hospital. She used to be such a beautiful and lovely girl as those in your photos hanging on the walls, but she doesn’t look her best right now... Sir, I know you’re booked up, and the next appointment is months away, but I don’t know...” She started to cry. I realized that waiting for months was not a bet for this little girl. Seeing she held her mother’s hand tightly, I felt my heart soften.
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I took a deep breath and smiled gently at the little girl, making up my mind to do something.

【答案】24.A 25.C 26.D 27.B
【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章介绍了Gutiérrez利用在垃圾堆捡到的图书建立了一个面向低收入家庭儿童的社区图书馆,从而变废为宝的故事。
24.细节理解题。根据第一段中的“Gutiérrez’s life would never be the same again after finding a copy of Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy in the garbage 20 years ago. It happened while he was driving his garbage truck through wealthier neighbourhoods at night and seeing abandoned books. It aroused his desire to start rescuing books from the garbage.(20 年前,Gutiérrez在垃圾堆里发现了一本列夫・托尔斯泰的《安娜・卡列尼娜》,自那以后,他的生活便彻底改变了。那是在他夜间驾驶着垃圾车穿行于富人区时,看到了那些被丢弃的书籍。这唤起了他从垃圾中拯救书籍的愿望)”可知,那本被丢弃的《安娜・卡列尼娜》激励他去拯救那些没人要的书。故选A。
25.推理判断题。根据第一段中的“Eventually, he turned his book collection into a community library for children from low-income families.(最终,他把自己的藏书变成了一个社区图书馆,供低收入家庭的孩子们使用)”以及第四段中的“Today, his makeshift community library, called “The Strength of Words”, occupies most of and is home in southern Bogota, his home in southern Bogota, his home in southern and non-fiction titles. Everything from school textbooks to storybooks can be found in his collection of more than 20,000 books!(如今,他那名为“文字的力量”的临时社区图书馆占据了他位于波哥大南部的家的大部分空间,这里也是图书馆的所在地。馆内藏有各类书籍,包括非虚构类作品。在他收藏的两万多本书籍中,从学校教科书到故事书,应有尽有!)”和第五段中“They want to create spaces for school children to spend their time reading.(他们想为学生创造空间,让他们花时间阅读)”可知,Gutiérrez把收集的书变成了一个社区图书馆,里面有很多适合孩子们的书,并且他想为学龄儿童创造阅读的空间,由此推断Gutiérrez创办“The Strength of Words”是为了方便孩子们阅读。故选C。
26.推理判断题。根据第一段中“He used to take home between 50 and 60 books every morning. Eventually, he turned his book collection into a community library for children from low-income families.(他过去常常每天早上把 50 到 60 本书带回家。最终,他把自己收藏的书变成了一个面向低收入家庭孩子的社区图书馆)” 可知他每天早上从垃圾中收集书,还把书变成社区图书馆帮助低收入家庭的孩子,这体现了他的奉献精神,结合第五段“Despite having done so much for his community, Gutiérrez is not yet content to call it a day. He continues to search through garbage cans for reading materials. Today, the Gutiérrez family does not merely want to start libraries in neighbourhoods. They want to create spaces for school children to spend their time reading.(尽管为他的社区做了这么多,Gutiérrez还不满足于结束一天的工作。他继续在垃圾桶里寻找阅读材料。今天,Gutiérrez家族不仅仅想在社区里建立图书馆。他们想为学生创造空间,让他们花时间阅读)”可知,他为社区做了很多事还不满足,继续收集书籍,想为孩子们创造更多阅读空间,这体现了他是有爱心的。故选D。
27.主旨大意题。根据全文内容,尤其是第二段中“Gutiérrez’s community library is a true representation of how one man’s garbage can be another’s treasure.(Gutiérrez的社区图书馆真实地展现了一个人的垃圾如何能成为另一个人的宝贝)”可知,文章主要讲述Gutiérrez从垃圾中收集被丢弃的书,将其变成了对孩子们有帮助的社区图书馆,就像一个人的垃圾变成了另一个人的宝藏一样。故B项“From Garbage to Treasure(从垃圾到宝藏)”最能概括本文主旨。故选B。

【答案】28.D 29.B 30.C 31.A
【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了噪鹮的特征,通过实验研究其利用“远程触觉”感知猎物的能力与土壤湿度的关系,以及气候变化对其的影响。
28.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Various ibises use remote-touch to detect (探测) movements of prey (猎物) in the soil and locate their hidden place. This ability is facilitated by a sensory organ in their beaks, called the bill-tip organ, which developed during the time of the dinosaurs.(各种鹮利用远程触觉来探测土壤中猎物的移动并定位它们的藏身之处。这种能力得益于它们喙中的一种感觉器官,叫做喙尖器官,它在恐龙时代就已经形成了)”可知,噪鹮有一个专门的感觉器官。故选D项。
29.推理判断题。根据第三段中“We presented them with boxes of soil containing buried worms, masking any sounds with white noise and mixing dead worms into the soil to remove scent cues (线索). The birds consistently found live worms faster than dead ones, indicating they are able to sense movements of prey and use remote-touch to find them.(我们给它们提供装有埋着虫子的土壤盒子,用白噪音掩盖任何声音,并将死虫子混入土壤中以消除气味线索。这些鸟总是比找到死虫子更快地找到活虫子,这表明它们能够感知猎物的移动并利用远程触觉来找到它们)”可知,使用白噪音和死虫子是为了排除声音和气味线索的干扰,从而得到更可靠的实验结果,证明噪鹮是通过远程触觉感知猎物的。故选B项。
30.细节理解题。根据第四段中“Droughts (干旱) and heatwaves, expected to worsen with climate change, could threaten their population by making prey detection more challenging.(随着气候变化,预计干旱和热浪将加剧,这可能会使猎物探测变得更具挑战性,从而威胁到它们的数量)”可知,干旱会让噪鹮更难找到猎物。故选C项。
31.主旨大意题。通读全文,结合第二段中“My recent research confirmed that hadedas have this ‘sixth sense’ and found it is closely tied to soil moisture (湿度) levels.(我最近的研究证实,噪鹮有这种‘第六感’,并发现它与土壤湿度水平密切相关)”以及后文围绕噪鹮在不同湿度土壤中探测猎物的研究内容可知,本文主要讲的是噪鹮在湿润土壤中探测猎物的情况。故选A项。

The farm combines advanced technology with traditional farming methods. It is known for its eco-friendly practices and latest systems like automatic watering and machine picking. It was fascinating to see how technology made agriculture more efficient and environmentally friendly. The visit was not only educational but also inspiring, as it opened my eyes to the potential of modern farming techniques. I can't wait to see how these advancements will shape our future.

第二节(满分25分)
注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
I took a deep breath and smiled gently at the little girl, making up my mind to do something.

The little girl looked at the photos with a bright smile.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I took a deep breath and smiled gently at the little girl, making up my mind to do something. I told the mother not to worry and that I’d take pictures for her daughter right away. I quickly adjusted the lighting in the studio and chose a soft-colored backdrop. I fetched a beautiful princess-style dress and helped the little girl put it on. As she stood in front of the camera, I encouraged her to imagine herself as a fearless princess. Slowly, her nervousness faded away, and she began to pose with confidence, her eyes shining with a newfound light. The mother watched with a grateful smile on her face.
The little girl looked at the photos with a bright smile. “I’m so pretty!” she exclaimed happily. The mother came over, tears of joy in her eyes. She thanked me repeatedly, saying these photos would be the most precious memory for her daughter. A few months later, I received a letter from the mother. It said the girl’s condition had improved significantly. In the end, I printed the best photo and sent it to them, hoping it would always bring the little girl strength and hope.
