When I was a little boy, I would go for walks in the park, where I encountered kinds of animals. I remembered one time I went to Beijing Zoo to see the hippos, but they sank in the water the whole time and wouldn’t come out. I had a sudden thought: What did the hippo’s tail look like? So I ended up waiting and waiting by the hippo exhibit. At last, after four long hours, a hippo came out of the water. I saw its tail: It was wrinkly (皱的), with a bit of hair on it. I can’t picture the scene very well anymore, but I remember clearly the fact that I waited so long at the zoo just to see a hippo’s tail. I studied biotech in college, in part because I couldn’t test into other departments. I settled by picking something that sounded animal-related. But I regretted this as soon as I started college, because that field was primarily concerned with the microscopic (微观的) world. During that period, my only comfort was volunteering at Beijing Zoo. After graduating from college, I started at a biotech company, researching something I had absolutely no interest in. I stayed at that company for not quite six months before I quit. I felt I had to go work with animals and do something I actually liked. Then someone told me, “There’s a wildlife rescue center you can work at.” So I went. Contrary to the assumption that tons of applicants competed for the position, there weren’t that many competitors. The pay wasn’t so great, but I simply felt I was meant to do this kind of thing when I was 23. It wasn’t so important how much I made—pursuing my dreams was the most important thing. 24.What can be inferred about the author’s personality? A.Careful and doubtful. B.Sympathetic and humble. C.Curious and patient. D.Considerate and cautious. 25.Why did the author regret majoring in biotech? A.It caused him to fail in exams. B.It was not linked with animals. C.It paid no attention to nature. D.It occupied much of his free time. 26.What did the author finally devote himself to? A.Working for wildlife rescue. B.Volunteering at Beijing Zoo. C.Doing research on wild animals. D.Building a wildlife rescue center. 27.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.The Long Wait for a Hippo’s Tail B.From a Hippo Tail to a Dream Job C.Volunteering: A Comfort in College D.Biotech: My Wrong College Choice 【答案】24.C 25.B 26.A 27.B 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。 根据第一段关键句“I remembered one time I went to Beijing Zoo to see the hippos, but they sank in the water the whole time and wouldn’t come out. Then someone told me, “There’s a wildlife rescue center you can work at.” So I went. (我觉得我必须和动物一起工作,做一些我真正喜欢的事情。然后有人告诉我:“你可以去一个野生动物救援中心工作。”于是我去了)”可知,作者最终听取别人的建议,去了野生动物救援中心工作,由此可知,作者最终致力于从事野生动物救援工作。故选A项。 27. 通读全文,结合第一段关键句“I remembered one time I went to Beijing Zoo to see the hippos, but they sank in the water the whole time and wouldn’t come out. I had a sudden thought: What did the hippo’s tail look like? So I ended up waiting and waiting by the hippo exhibit. (我记得有一次我去北京动物园看河马,但它们一直沉入水中,再也不出来了。我突然想到:河马的尾巴是什么样子的?所以我最终在河马展览旁等了又等)”和最后一段关键句“It wasn’t so important how much I made—pursuing my dreams was the most important thing. (我赚了多少并不重要,追求梦想才是最重要的)”可知,本文讲述了作者小时候因为对河马的尾巴感兴趣,从而在心中埋下了对动物感兴趣的种子,长大后,致力于从事与动物相关的工作,实现了自己儿时的梦想,“From a Hippo Tail to a Dream Job”意为“从河马尾到梦想工作”,能够概括文章主要内容,为最佳标题。故选B项。 C A team of AI researchers at Microsoft, working with colleagues from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), has used AI to develop a battery that uses less lithium (锂). Lithium-ion (锂离子) batteries have become the industry standard for electronic devices and electric vehicles and are expected to play a major role in the conversion to green power. But lithium is expensive, which has led multiple teams across the globe to look for alternatives. In this new effort, the research team looked for ways to reduce the amount of lithium used in batteries. This would normally take a long time because of the detailed approach required. To reduce the workload and the time needed to process millions of alternatives, the researchers turned to AI. Noting that AI applications are good at using massive amounts of data to learn how to do things, the researchers designed one that could study millions of materials that might be added to a lithium battery to replace some amount of the lithium and test the results for factors such as stability and how a battery using a given material would behave. Using this approach, the research team reduced the list of possible alternatives to just a few hundred possibilities. They then turned to materials scientists at PNNL for advice on how to reduce the possibilities even further. The scientists suggested adding more specific screening criteria and more elimination rounds. After adopting that advice, the team arrived at a promising alternative and an approach that involved replacing approximately half of the lithium atoms in a battery with sodium (钠) atoms. After using the new approach to build a working battery, the researchers found it had lower conductivity than was needed — but they also believe that there is room for improvement. They plan to continue working on the approach and the process they used to find their solution, which they suggest could eventually solve other types of material processing problems. 28.Why did the research team want to develop a battery that uses less lithium? A.To reduce carbon emissions. B.To meet the industry standard. C.To decrease the cost of a battery. D.To generate electricity efficiently. 29.What do the underlined words “this approach” in paragraph 4 refer to? A.Using AI to find possible materials. B.Adding other materials to a battery. C.Developing an application to collect data. D.Replacing lithium in a battery with sodium. 30.How did the research team finally find a promising alternative? A.By seeking funding from PNNL. B.By asking experts for advice. C.By turning to Microsoft for help. D.By cooperating with other scientists. 31.What do the researchers think of the approach? A.Effective and workable. B.Complex and impractical. C.Challenging and demanding. D.Innovative and groundbreaking. 【答案】28.C 29.A 30.B 31.A 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第二段的“But lithium is expensive, which has led multiple teams across the globe to look for alternatives.(但是,锂的价格昂贵,这促使全球多个团队去寻找替代材料)”可知,锂的价格昂贵,因此研究团队想要开发使用更少锂的电池以降低电池成本。故选C。 29. 根据第三段的“To reduce the workload and the time needed to process millions of alternatives, the researchers turned to AI. Noting that AI applications are good at using massive amounts of data to learn how to do things, the researchers designed one that could study millions of materials that might be added to a lithium battery to replace some amount of the lithium and test the results for factors such as stability and how a battery using a given material would behave.(为了减轻工作负担并缩短处理数百万种替代材料所需的时间,研究人员转向了人工智能。他们注意到,AI应用程序擅长利用大量数据来学习如何执行任务,因此设计了一个程序,该程序能够研究数百万种可能添加到锂电池中的材料,以替代部分锂,并测试这些材料在稳定性等因素上的表现,以及使用特定材料的电池的行为特性)”可知,研究团队利用AI来研究可能添加到锂电池中的数百万种材料,以替代部分锂。因此,“this approach”指的是利用AI来寻找可能的材料。故选A。 30. 根据第四段的“They then turned to materials scientists at PNNL for advice on how to reduce the possibilities even further. The scientists suggested adding more specific screening criteria and more elimination rounds. After adopting that advice, the team arrived at a promising alternative and an approach that involved replacing approximately half of the lithium atoms in a battery with sodium (钠) atoms.(随后,他们向太平洋西北国家实验室的材料科学家寻求建议,以进一步缩小可能性范围。科学家们建议增加更具体的筛选标准和更多的淘汰轮次。采纳这些建议后,研究团队找到了一种有前景的替代方案,即采用一种方法,用钠原子替换电池中大约一半的锂原子)”可知,研究团队向PNNL的材料科学家寻求建议,并根据他们的建议找到了一个有前途的替代方案。故选B。 31.推理判断题。根据最后一段的“They plan to continue working on the approach and the process they used to find their solution, which they suggest could eventually solve other types of material processing problems.(他们计划继续深入研究这一方法以及他们用来找到解决方案的过程,他们认为这最终有可能解决其他类型的材料加工问题)”可知,研究团队计划继续研究这种方法和他们用来找到解决方案的过程,并认为这种方法最终可以解决其他类型的材料处理问题。 A。 D Two years after ChatGPT took the world by storm, generative artificial intelligence seems to have hit a roadblock. The energy costs of building and using bigger models are rocketing, and breakthroughs are getting harder. Fortunately, researchers and entrepreneurs are racing for ways around the limits. Their ingenuity (独创力) will not just transform AI. It will determine which firms dominate and whether investors win. Large language models have a keen appetite for electricity. By one estimate, the energy used to train OpenAI’s GPT-4 model could have powered 50 American homes for a century. If so, it is hard to see how generative AI could ever become economically workable. This is frightening for investors, for they have bet big on AI. There is no need to panic. Many other technologies have faced limits and gone on to prosper thanks to human ingenuity. The difficulty of getting people into space led to innovations that are now used on Earth. Already, developments in AI are showing how limits can stimulate creativity. Companies like Meta and Microsoft are developing chips especially for the operations needed to run large language models. Developers are also making changes to AI software. Bigger models that rely on the computational power are giving way to smaller and more specialised systems. Investors have become used to the idea that among tech companies, the dominant has a natural advantage. For AI, that assumption can no longer be taken for granted. Nvidia sells four-fifths of the world’s AI chips. But other more specialised rivals could well eat into its share. Already Google’s AI processors are the third-most-used in data centres worldwide. OpenAI may have launched the pioneering large language model. This means that investors are in for a rocky ride. Their bets on today’s leaders look less certain. Nvidia could lose ground to other chipmakers; OpenAI could be replaced. Competition among tech companies is fierce. Few firms yet have a strategy for turning a profit from generative AI. Even if the industry does end up belonging to one winner, it is not clear who that will be. 32.What is a restricting factor for the development of generative artificial intelligence? A.The influence of ChatGPT. B.The increase of energy cost. C.The interference of investors. D.The dominance of tech companies. 33.Which of the following best summarizes the relationship between Paragraph 2 and Paragraph 3? A.Cause and effect. B.Problem and solution. C.Evidence and illustration. D.Comparison and contrast. 34.Why does the author mention Google’s AI in paragraph 4? A.To indicate the failure faced by OpenAI. B.To illustrate the changes made to AI software. C.To contradict the assumption held by investors. D.To confirm the advantage enjoyed by domimant firms. 35.What’s the main idea of the passage? A.Investors are losing their bet on AI. B.AI industry is blessed with chips and talents. C.A few tech firms are leading the AI universe. D.A race is on to push AI beyond today’s limits. 根据第一段中“The energy costs of building and using bigger models are rocketing, and breakthroughs are getting harder.(构建和使用更大模型的能源成本正在飙升,取得突破也越来越难)”可知,能源成本的增加是生成式人工智能发展的限制因素。故选B项。 33. 第二段中“Large language models have a keen appetite for electricity. Companies like Meta and Microsoft are developing chips especially for the operations needed to run large language models. Developers are also making changes to AI software.(人工智能的发展已经表明,限制如何能够激发创造力。像Meta和微软这样的公司正在开发专门用于运行大语言模型所需操作的芯片。开发者们也在对人工智能软件进行改进)”给出了可能解决问题的方法。所以第二段和第三段是问题与解决方法的关系。故选B项。 34.推理判断题。根据第四段中“Investors have become used to the idea that among tech companies, the dominant has a natural advantage. For AI, that assumption can no longer be taken for granted.(投资者已经习惯了这样一种观念,即在科技公司中,占主导地位的公司具有天然优势。对于人工智能来说,这种假设不再是理所当然的)”和“Nvidia sells four-fifths of the world’s AI chips. But other more specialised rivals could well eat into its share. Already Google’s AI processors are the third-most-used in data centres worldwide.(英伟达销售全球五分之四的人工智能芯片。 Picture this: you’re tramping through the rugged wilderness, surrounded by towering trees and breathtaking views. The sense of adventure is exhilarating, but what happens if you take a wrong turn or find yourself in an emergency? 36 It is a small device that is on a satellite network with good coverage across New Iceland. When you go adventures, PLBs can make a difference in ensuring your safety. Peace of mind The idea of carrying a PLB provides a significant boost in peace of mind. 37 Whether trekking through familiar trails or venturing into uncharted territory, a PLB ensures you’re never truly alone in an emergency. Equip yourself with this essential device and hike with the confidence that help is always within reach. Reliable connection Unlike mobile phones, which can lose signal or run out of battery, PLBs are designed to work in the most challenging environments. We put our 42 together to come up with ideas of how to 43 our mothers. We decided to hold our tea the Friday before Mother’s Day. Each child took home an invitation and I was 44 to see that every mother was planning to attend. I even invited my own mother. Finally the 45 day arrived. At 1:45 that afternoon, each child lined up in our classroom waiting for the 46 of his or her mom. As it got closer to starting time, I looked around and my eyes quickly found Jimmy. His mother hadn’t shown up and he was waiting 47 . I took my 48 by the hand and walked over to Jimmy. “Jimmy,” I said, “I have some problem here and I was wondering if you could 49 . I’m going to be really busy. I was wondering if you could keep my mother company while I’m busy.” My mom and Jimmy sat at a table with two other mother-and-child 50 . Jimmy served my mom her treats, presented her with the gifts I had made, and pulled out and pushed in her chair, just as we had practised the day before. Whenever I 51 , my mom and Jimmy were 52 in conversation. Now, 10 years later, I work with students of all ages, educating them about the environment. Last year, I was at a high school to 53 a class on a field trip and there was Jimmy. When Jimmy made sure we were the last two, he said, “Remember our Mother’s Day 54 we had in second grade? Thanks for all you did for me, and thank your mother, too. But due to situations she couldn’t control, her time as a teacher was cut short. However, today she got a special chance to live out a part of that dream. Her task was to persuade a teenage boy named Charles Cable not to drop out of school. Sitting at her desk, Auntie Kiki carefully went through Charles’ file. She felt both worried and determined. She wondered how she could convince him to stay in school. From the file, she understood why he might want to quit. He was failing all his subjects, and it wasn’t just his poor performance. His teachers seemed to have given up on him, not giving him a fair chance to succeed. His classmates were unkind and made his school life terrible. In such a situation, anyone would want to leave. But Auntie Kiki was set on helping him. She thought back to her own struggles in school. She remembered feeling like she would never reach the reading level for her grade. She recalled the humiliation (屈辱) when her teachers and classmates made her feel bad. Yet, something inside her kept her going. She tried hard to remember what had helped her get through those tough times and eventually become a teacher. Was it the strong desire to prove everyone wrong? Auntie Kiki arranged to meet Charles in her office. When Charles walked in, he looked a bit nervous. “Miss, what is up?” he asked, a bit surprised. “Now, come here,” she replied gently, pointing to a chair. “Let’s sit down and have a talk, Charles.” As they sat, Auntie Kiki began by asking Charles about his feelings. He opened up, talking about the unfair treatment from his teachers, the bullying from his classmates, and the overwhelming sense of failure. Auntie Kiki listened attentively, not interrupting him. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 After he finished, Auntie Kiki shared her own story. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After their conversation, Charles’ attitude started to change. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】After he finished, Auntie Kiki shared her own story. She told Charles about her struggles in school, how she had felt like a failure and how her teachers and classmates had made her feel bad. She described the humiliation she had felt when she couldn’t reach the reading level for her grade. But she also talked about the fire inside her that kept her going. She said it was the strong desire to prove everyone wrong and the dream of becoming a teacher that had driven her forward. ‌“You have so much potential, Charles,” she said earnestly. ‌“Don’t let these temporary difficulties define you. You can turn things around.” After their conversation, Charles’ attitude started to change. He no longer looked so defeated. There was a new light in his eyes. He began to work harder in class, determined to prove himself. His teachers were surprised to see the change in him. They started to give him more attention and encouragement. His classmates also noticed the difference and gradually stopped their unkind behavior. With Auntie Kiki’s continuous support and his own efforts, Charles slowly caught up with his studies. A few months later, he was no longer at risk of dropping out. Instead, he was on the path to becoming a successful student, all thanks to Auntie Kiki’s timely intervention. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①达到:reach/achieve/attain ②推动:drive/push ③注意到:notice/be aware of 情绪类 ①下定决心的:determined/resolved ②惊奇的:surprised/amazed 【点睛】[高分句型1] But she also talked about the fire inside her that kept her going.(运用了关系代词that引导的限制性定语从句) [高分句型2] She said it was the strong desire to prove everyone wrong and the dream of becoming a teacher that had driven her forward.(运用了省略连词that的宾语从句和强调句) [高分句型3] He began to work harder in class, determined to prove himself.(运用了形容词作伴随状语) 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 绝密★考试结束前 2025年高考第三次模拟考试 英语 (考试时间:120分钟 试卷满分:150分) 本卷·热点话题:阅读理解A篇介绍了四部值得一看的最新电影。 1.When are the speakers probably leaving? B I grew up in Beijing, near Taoranting Park. A.The Long Wait for a Hippo’s Tail B.From a Hippo Tail to a Dream Job C.Volunteering: A Comfort in College D.Biotech: My Wrong College Choice C A team of AI researchers at Microsoft, working with colleagues from the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), has used AI to develop a battery that uses less lithium (锂). D Two years after ChatGPT took the world by storm, generative artificial intelligence seems to have hit a roadblock. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Picture this: you’re tramping through the rugged wilderness, surrounded by towering trees and breathtaking views. They operate on dedicated frequencies and have excellent batteries that can last for years without needing a charge. 38 A PLB’s signal can penetrate dense forests, deep canyons, and even stormy weather, ensuring your call for help gets through. 39 Investing in a PLB doesn’t have to break the bank. Prices for these devices have become more accessible and considering the potential cost of an unplanned search and rescue mission, a PLB is a small price to pay for your safety. 40 A PLB is necessary for any serious tramper. Its ability to provide a reliable, lifesaving connection to rescue services, regardless of your location, cannot be overstated. A.Spot tracker B.Affordable Safety C.This reliability is crucial when every second counts. D.If you can’t afford one, they are readily available for hire as well. E.This is where a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) becomes an invaluable tool. F.They use a different network to PLBs and have less coverage and a weaker signal. G.Knowing you have a direct line to rescue services allows you to explore more confidently. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 15 years spent in the field of education has provided me with treasured moments. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 试卷第1页,共3页 试卷第1页,共3页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
