阅读理解 (2024·新课标 Ⅰ 卷)“I am not crazy,” says Dr.William Farber, shortly after performing acupuncture(针灸) on a rabbit.“I am ahead of my time.” If he seems a little defensive,it might be because even some of his coworkers occasionally laugh at his unusual methods. But Farber is certain he'll have the last laugh. He's one of a small but growing number of American veterinarians(兽医) now practicing “holistic” medicine—combining traditional Western treatments with acupuncture, chiropractic(按摩疗法) and herbal medicine. Farber,a graduate of Colorado State University, started out as a more conventional veterinarian. He became interested in alternative treatments 20 years ago when he suffered from terrible back pain.He tried musclerelaxing drugs but found little relief. Then he tried acupuncture,an ancient Chinese practice, and was amazed that he improved after two or three treatments. What worked on a veterinarian seemed likely to work on his patients. So,after studying the techniques for a couple of years,he began offering them to pets. Leigh Tindale's dog Charlie had a serious heart condition. After Charlie had a heart attack,Tindale says, she was prepared to put him to sleep, but Farber's treatments eased her dog's suffering so much that she was able to keep him alive for an additional five months. And Priscilla Dewing reports that her horse,Nappy,“moves more easily and rides more comfortably” after a chiropractic adjustment. Farber is certain that the holistic approach will grow more popular with time, and if the past is any indication,he may be right:Since 1982,membership in the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association has grown from 30 to over 700.“Sometimes it surprises me that it works so well,” he says.“I will do anything to help an animal. That's my job.” 1.What do some of Farber's coworkers think of him? A.He's odd. B.He's strict. C.He's brave. D.He's rude. 2.Why did Farber decide to try acupuncture on pets? A.He was trained in it at university. B.He was inspired by another veterinarian. C.He benefited from it as a patient. D.He wanted to save money for pet owners. 3.What does Paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A.Steps of a chiropractic treatment. B.The complexity of veterinarians' work. C.Examples of rare animal diseases. D.The effectiveness of holistic medicine. 4.Why does the author mention the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association? A.To prove Farber's point. B.To emphasize its importance. C.To praise veterinarians. D.To advocate animal protection. 根据第一段中的“If he seems a little defensive,it might be because even some of his coworkers occasionally laugh at his unusual methods.(如果他看起来有点戒备的姿态,那可能是因为他的一些同事偶尔会嘲笑他不寻常的方法。)” 故选A。 根据第二段中的“Then he tried acupuncture,an ancient Chinese practice, and was amazed that he improved after two or three treatments. What worked on a veterinarian seemed likely to work on his patients. So,after studying the techniques for a couple of years,he began offering them to pets.” Since 1982,membership in the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association has grown from 30 to over 700.” 故选A。 Ⅱ.语法填空 (2024·余姚高二检测)About 800 meters above sea level and next to the picturesque Taiping Lake,Houkeng village in Huangshan,a region in the south of Anhui province, seems 1.__________(bless) by nature and is home to the handmade tea variety Taiping Kowkui.Every spring 2.__________ foggy days moisten the emerald hillsides, villagers know their harvest will come.“3.__________ any of three key factors—proper location, plant variety,or processing technique—the perfect Kowkui will not be born,” Fang Jifan, the fifthgeneration tea farmer says.“It's 4.__________ signature of our home.” Kowkui's 5.__________(exceptional) large leaves often lead to it's 6.__________(mistake) for “vegetable” by firsttime viewers, but this “king” of green tea in Fang's eyes beats other 7.__________(variety) at more than just size.“Its fragrance and flavor also stand out, thanks to the timeconsuming work to process them,” Fang says. Last November, traditional tea processing techniques and associated social practices in China 8.__________(add) to the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.“The tea culture not only reflects a refined taste in life,it also shows the beauty of craftsmanship 9.__________ people's creativity,” says Zheng Yi,deputy head of Anhui Tea Culture Research Society.“For centuries, the scent of tea leaves 10.__________(offer) nutrition to this land. This intangible cultural heritage of tea processing techniques is deeply rooted in people's everyday life. 1.to be blessed [解析]考查非谓语动词。 故填were added。 [参考范文] Dear Mr.Smith, I'm Li Hua,writing on behalf of the Students' Union to invite you to the series of activities themed “Man and Nature” and give a lecture next Saturday. The activities are intended to help students know the importance of the wildlife to human beings and raise their awareness of achieving harmony between man and nature. There are various activities ranging from a photo exhibition of endangered animals to some short videos.Your lecture is expected to be given at 3 p.m. in the lecture room about the current situation of endangered animals and what we can to do to make a difference. I'd appreciate it very much if you can accept my sincere invitation and give us insights into our nature. Yours, Li Hua Ⅳ. When I came back home,my mother was having a conversation with my sevenyearold daughter Jane. They were talking about how to fight against climate change in the holidays.I interrupted, saying we could do it by eating leftovers(剩菜) this holiday season.Mom and I both smiled. I said,“You know Americans throw away 25 percent more trash between Thanksgiving and New Year's Day,including things like plastic from gift wrap.Food waste, which accounts for 30 to 40 percent of yearround waste entering landfills(垃圾填埋场),also rises sharply during the holidays.During Thanksgiving week alone,Americans throw out roughly 200 million pounds of turkey meat, along with 30 million pounds of gravy(肉汁) and 14 million pounds of dinner rolls.” Jane was puzzled at the figures of food waste but she was interested in the consequences.I told her,“When thrownaway food makes its way to landfills and rots,it produces methane,a kind of greenhouse gas. That's not friendly. It can destroy the ecosystem, threatening the survival of animals, plants and humans on the planet.” Jane was nervous and asked what we could do to help the earth.“One of the most powerful tools we have is just to directly decrease our own waste in our home,” my mom said.“It's also really challenging because most of our waste is happening in different ways. But individual action can also play a huge role in dealing with food waste, particularly in the US.” I remember that in my family, there are two traditions when it comes to holiday meals: there must be more food on the table than everyone can eat,and everyone must take home a plate of food at the end of the meal to make sure all the hard work that went into its preparation wasn't wasted. Paragraph 1: Jane asked,“Why prepare so much food for a holiday?”____________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Jane answered “Sure” and hoped to help Grandmother to prepare for dinners.________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ [参考范文] Paragraph 1: Jane asked,“Why prepare so much food for a holiday?”My mom smiled saying it was to make sure there was enough for everyone, not just to enjoy the meal but to enjoy leftovers for as long as they wanted.I explained that not everyone had realized the importance of food and the bad effect of food waste.Eating leftovers could help us reduce food waste and that planning would go a long way.I asked my daughter whether she would spend a holiday without wasting food to fight against climate change. Paragraph 2: Jane answered “Sure” and hoped to help Grandmother to prepare for dinners. My mom and I both smiled again. We worked out how many people would attend the party and how much food would be bought.Jane was happy to take part in the activities.I hope my mom's method will help her realize the duty to do something for our earth. It's a small step, but if many other people take similar action,it'll give the planet a breather at a time when that's badly needed.
