Raising rabbits is a fun experience. Whether you are getting young rabbits or old ones, you'll experience all of the joys of raising them. Raising rabbits is much like raising other animals. Here're some things to help you raise and care for your rabbits so that they can live a happy life.
When you bring rabbits home, they will be scared, because rabbits are nervous by nature. Allow them a few weeks to get used to their surroundings. Always make sure your rabbits have a cage big enough to live in. They need to have enough room to move around, especially if they stay indoors and you will cage them while you are gone. This is the safest option for your rabbits as well. Make sure to keep their diet consistent. Pet rabbits don't like it when their food is changed often. Aside from food, water is the most important for a rabbit. Always make sure they have fresh cold water! Provide a treat for them every now and then like carrots. There are certain types of treats at pet stores that are good, and your rabbits may like them. Rabbit care also means providing your rabbits with toys. Cat toys work great, especially balls with bells in the center. Larger rabbits will even play with things such as pop cans and pop bottles.
Raising rabbits requires a lot of efforts, but it will also bring you many years of joy and happiness.

When I was four years old, I got stung (螫) by a bee—twice in one week! After that, I had a fear of bees. That's when my parents suggested that I learn about bees instead of being frightened. I read picture books and watched videos about bees, and I learned that bees help make the food we eat because of their pollination (授粉). Take pizza, for example. If we didn't have bees to pollinate tomato plants, we wouldn't have tomatoes for sauce. And we wouldn't have cheese without pollination, either.
The bad news is that bees are struggling to survive. Many are dying. Some scientists think it might be because of chemicals that are used to kill other insects. What would happen if there were no more bees? I wanted to help. I thought, “What if I make lemonade, sell it, and raise money to help bees?” I talked to my grandmother Helen. She gave me her recipe (调制法) for lemonade. It came from a cookbook from 1940.
I added honey to her old recipe. That way, I could sell the lemonade and donate some of the money to groups that are helping to save bees. I could also support local beekeepers by using their honey in my product. And I would be educating others on the importance of bees and helping to save them.
My dad showed me how to work out what supplies I needed to buy. At first, I sold lemonade at a stand at a kids' business event. But I wanted to help bees all year round. We talked to a pizza place near where I live. They said they wanted to sell it. Now more than 30 stores sell it, too. This year we sold about 140,000 bottles. I love helping to save bees. It's the sweetest feeling ever.

Scientists say only enlarging the world's nature reserve to help protect plants and animals may be useless. The main reason is that levels of human activity are rising in and around the nature reserves. In fact, recognizing spaces as protected areas is not reducing human activity there.
The researchers found that a lack of money to pay for land conservation (保护) is affecting conservation efforts. And it is a lack of communication between people who live in protected natural areas and outsiders. About 17 percent of the world is within protected areas, including the national parks, nature reserves and wilderness areas. Protected areas are important for supporting environments with many different kinds of plants and animals.
The researchers again found increasing human activity in most protected areas in every country. However, they said that human activity appeared to be more of a problem in nations with fewer roads and lower life standards on the Human Development Index (指数). The index uses information about life length, education and earnings to grade countries on human development.
Across the northern Australia, protected areas often proved effective at slowing human activity when compared with unprotected areas. But in South America, Southeast Asia and African countries, pressure from human activity inside protected areas was higher.
Experts say governments need to provide fund support to help protected areas. Simply recognizing a place as a protected area can't be the beginning and the end of a conservation effort. Working with local people to take efforts is also important. If they're not partners in the protected areas, then wildlife conservation is much more difficult.

Two-thirds of the world's major rivers have now been disrupted (中断) with more than 50,000 dams in an attempt to store water and provide power. In the US, there are more than 85,000 dams, disrupting large and small rivers and in most cases transforming natural flow. The most famous of these, the Hoover Dam constructed in the 1930's, is mainly responsible for the fact that the Colorado River no longer reaches the ocean.
Dams besides all their attractive benefits also have negative impacts. Creating a reservoir means a large area must be flooded. Communities may lose their land, houses and cultural relics. Downstream (在下游方向) of a dam, the flow may be reduced so that farmers cannot irrigate (灌溉) their field.
Environmentally the new reservoir can be a paradise for wildlife especially birds. However, it can cause greenhouse gas emissions (排放) and poison the water for fish. Also the dramatic rise and fall of water levels during dam releases is too extreme for plains and animals to cope with, resulting in dead zones around the shores of reservoirs. Fish that lay their eggs in the shallows, for example, may find a few hours later that those sites are high and dry.
Dams don't just block water flow. The flow may be reduced so that farmers will have great trouble getting water for their fields. They also prevent fish migrations and are a barrier to sediment (沉淀物) flows. Instead of rushing downriver, sediments get backed up against the dam wall, which cause the reservoir level to increase over time. However, sediments which are rich in nutrients have become a problem. The fertility (富饶) of the entire system can be influenced with soils lost during seasonal rains not being replaced.
Perhaps the biggest problem can be seen in deltas (三角洲) often host to large cities, which are sinking into the oceans. Groundwater is being extracted to feed the city, causing the urban weight to sink and sediments washed away by the ocean are no longer being replaced. The result is that sea level rise in cities from Shanghai to Alexandria.
篇章导读:本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了建造水坝给人们的生活及自然环境带来的一些消极影响。
32.What effects does creating a reservoir have on people's life?
a.People will see fewer birds near the rivers.
b.Farmers below the dam may have less water to irrigate their field.
c.Visitors can't see some cultural relics anymore.

Swap, Don't shop!
You keep hearing about recycling, right? But it doesn't end with bottles, cans, and paper. Clothing takes a huge amount of natural resources (资源) to make, and buying loads of new clothing (or throwing out old clothing)is not healthy for the environment. So what to do with all those perfectlygoodbutyou'remaybealittlesickofthem clothes piled on your bedroom floor? __36__. It's the best way to get rid of your used clothes, score clothes from your friends, and have a party all at the same time.
A successful swap depends on the selection of clothes, the organization of the event, and, obviously, how much fun is had. It's really easy to do! Here are a few pointers.
●Invite 5-10 people so you have a nice selection. __37__, and there may not be enough things to choose from; more than that, and it becomes uncontrollable.
●__38__. They should also prepare plenty of reusable bags to carry their “new” clothes home.
●Put different types of clothing on different surfaces in the room. __39__. Place a few mirrors around your room so people can see how things look when they try them on. One of the ground rules of the swap should be that everyone must try on the clothes before they take them—things always look different when you put them on.
●Set a starting time. Maybe you say “go,” or turn on a certain song, or whatever. __40__. And don't forget to put out some cookies and fruits. Remember, it's a party!
A.Less people than that
B.Hold a clothing swap
C.If two people are competing
D.Just keep music playing throughout
E.Donate whatever clothes are left over
F.Have everyone put their clothes in the right spots
G.Tell everyone to bring clean clothes in good condition

The Green City, the Healthy Life
As a citizen of our city, it's our duty to help protect its environment and make it a greener place to live in. Here are some small things we all can do and should do.
First of all, we can ride bicycles to and from school as much as possible to reduce air pollution. Secondly, wherever we go, we should throw rubbish into rubbish bins to keep our city clean and tidy. Last but not least, we should plant more trees to protect our city's natural environment.
In my opinion, a green city is the key to a healthy life. If everyone makes a contribution to building a green city, our city will become a more beautiful place. Let's take action now!
第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was a volunteer for an organisation at the beginning of this year. The organisation is aimed at helping children who suffer from cancer. One day, we were asked to raise money for cancer research and programme funding at an event.
Since my friend Lisa was also a volunteer for the organisation, I went to the event with her. There were many people at the event. After seeing our poster, some people came to us and talked with us. But few people donated money. It was a big hot that day. Both Lisa and I got really upset.
Half an hour later, Lisa started complaining, “I don't think we can raise much money today.”
“Don't worry. The event lasts for three hours. There is still a lot of time left,” I said, though I also thought poorly of our plan to raise much money that day.
While Lisa and I were talking, a little boy of about eight years old came to us. He stood in front of our poster and started reading.
After a while, he asked, “What is cancer?”
I explained what cancer is. Then I said, “Many people around the world are suffering from cancer. It can be really dangerous. More research is needed to learn about it so that people with it can suffer less. That's why we're collecting money for it.”
“Do children suffer from cancer, too?” asked the boy.
“Yes. Many children suffer from cancer. Some of them may die. They need help,” Lisa said and I nodded.
Hearing that, the boy became sad. Then the boy asked, “How much money have you collected?”
Both Lisa and I were embarrassed to tell him that we didn't raise much money. At last, we said, “Not much.”
The boy looked into our donation container and only saw a few one-dollar and five-dollar bills. The boy said nothing after seeing that and left. Then some girls came to us and we started talking with them. Neither Lisa nor I thought the boy would return. However, about twenty minutes later, the boy did return.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在相应位置作答。
The boy happily ran to us and asked, “Would you take a donation from children?”
Both Lisa and I were deeply touched.
The boy happily ran to us and asked, “Would you take a donation from children?” Lisa and I looked at each other. We couldn't believe such a little boy would care. Though we didn't believe it, we said, “Yes.” The boy put his hand in his pocket and took out some five-dollar bills. He said, “I just asked for them from my mother. I really want to help the children suffering from cancer.”
Both Lisa and I were deeply touched. We thanked the boy, but he left soon. Looking at his back, both Lisa and I were greatly encouraged. We wanted to try harder to raise money. So instead of just standing there, we went to people and told them about our programme. At the end of the day, we raised over three thousand dollars, a lot more than Lisa and I had expected in the beginning.
