Capitoline Museum It was founded in 1471. The ticket price may vary, but generally, it’s around 15-20 euros. There’re also discounted tickets available for certain groups such as students and seniors. It’s usually open from 9:30 a. m. -7:30 p. m. However, it may close earlier on some holidays. It houses a vast and diverse collection. There’re a great number of ancient Roman sculptures, including the famous Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius. Baths of Diocletian Museum It was built around the ruins of the ancient baths in 1998. The ticket cost is around 7-10 euros. It’s open from 9 a. m. -7:30 p. m., Tuesday to Sunday. It shows the grandeur of ancient Roman architecture as it’s situated within the remains of the baths. It has a good number of artworks and archaeological finds related to the baths and daily life in ancient Rome. Palazzo Massimo alle Terme It was established in 1889. The entrance fee is approximately 10-12 euros. It also offers combined tickets with other nearby museums. It’s open from 9 a. m. -7:45 p. m. The last entry is usually 45 minutes before closing time. It’s famous for its Roman wall paintings, which are well-preserved and offer a vivid picture of ancient Roman life and art. Ara Pacis Museum It’s eight years younger than Baths of Diocletian Museum. The entrance fee is usually about 10-12 euros. It’s open from 9:30 a. m. -7:30 p. m. It’s devoted to the Altar of Augustan Peace. The museum provides a unique view of Roman imperial art and history through its exhibits. It has detailed reliefs (浮雕) on the altar that show religious ceremonies, mythological scenes, and the imperial family. These reliefs are important for understanding the ideology and aesthetics (美学) of the Augustan period. 1. What is special about Baths of Diocletian Museum? A. It’s closed on Saturdays. B. It offers discounted tickets. C. It’s set within the ruins. D. It’s aimed at young people. 2. Which is the second oldest of the four museums? A. Capitoline Museum. B. Palazzo Massimo alle Terme. C. Baths of Diocletian Museum. D. Ara Pacis Museum. 3. What do the four museums have in common? A. They open at the same time in the morning. B. They gradually tend to feature modern works. C. They demonstrate the history of ancient Rome. D. They integrate ancient Rome into modernity. C 2. B 3. 根据关于Baths of Diocletian Museum的描述“It shows the grandeur of ancient Roman architecture as it’s situated within the remains of the baths(由于它位于浴场遗址内,它展现了古罗马建筑的宏伟)”可知,这个博物馆的特别之处在于它位于遗址内。 根据“Capitoline Museum”部分“It was founded in 1471(它建于1471年)”可知Capitoline Museum建立于1471年;根据“Baths of Diocletian Museum”部分“It was built around the ruins of the ancient baths in 1998 (它于1998年围绕古浴场的废墟而建)”可知Baths of Diocletian Museum建立于1998年;根据“Palazzo Massimo alle Terme”部分“It was established in 1889 (它建于1889年)”可知Palazzo Massimo alle Terme建立于1889年;根据“Ara Pacis Museum”部分“It’s eight years younger than Baths of Diocletian Museum (它比Baths of Diocletian Museum晚8年建立)”可知Ara Pacis Museum比Baths of Diocletian Museum晚8年建立,即2006年建立。 根据第一段“Rome is famous for its numerous museums. Here’re four of them.( 罗马以其众多博物馆而闻名。以下是其中四个)”以及“Capitoline Museum”部分“There’re a great number of ancient Roman sculptures, including the famous Equestrian Statue of Marcus Aurelius (那里有许多古罗马雕像,包括著名的马可·奥勒留骑马像)”、“Baths of Diocletian Museum”部分“It shows the grandeur of ancient Roman architecture as it’s situated within the remains of the baths. It has a good number of artworks and archaeological finds related to the baths and daily life in ancient Rome (它展示了古罗马建筑的宏伟,因为它坐落在浴场的遗迹之中。那里有许多与浴场以及古罗马日常生活相关的艺术作品和考古发现)”、“Palazzo Massimo alle Terme”部分“It’s famous for its Roman wall paintings, which are well-preserved and offer a vivid picture of ancient Roman life and art (它以其罗马壁画而闻名,这些壁画保存完好,生动地展现了古罗马的生活和艺术)”以及“Ara Pacis Museum”部分“The museum provides a unique view of Roman imperial art and history through its exhibits (该博物馆通过其展品提供了对罗马帝国艺术和历史的独特视角)”可知,本文对四个博物馆进行了介绍,Capitoline Museum有很多古罗马雕塑;Baths of Diocletian Museum有很多与浴场和古罗马日常生活相关的艺术品和考古发现;Palazzo Massimo alle Terme以其保存完好的罗马壁画而闻名,能让人了解古罗马生活和艺术;Ara Pacis Museum通过展品提供了罗马帝国艺术和历史的独特视角。 B With tears blurring her vision, Hailey Magee rushed all the way home the moment she discovered her grade report card had an A-mınus. Growing up she had learned that the way to receive confirmation and love from family members and teachers was to be a high achiever. So to Magee, that A-minus felt like a failure. “I was shattered,” she said. “In that moment, I felt like my self-worth as a human had fallen far below what it would have been if I’d gotten an A or an A-plus.” Magee’s turning a good grade into a cause of her inferiority (自卑) is a textbook example of a growing trend in recent years: Perfectionist-behavior. Perfectionism is now a growing cultural phenomenon. High levels of perfectionism were linked with depression, anxiety, eating disorders and self-harm. The constant stress of attempting to be perfect can also leave people stressed and suffering from headaches and insomnia (失眠). Many parents today feel a sense of competitiveness that they may push onto their kids, whether by pressuring them to get perfect grades so they can get into top schools or engaging them in extracurricular (课外的) activities that might look good on a college application. But if a child is only rewarded for high achievement, over time they learn that their value as a person depends on being perfect. Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms also increase unhealthy comparisons. “It’s a real problem — those social media images end up serving as standards that people can compare themselves to and a perfectionist is always trying to keep up with the Joneses,” Sherry, a clinical psychologist, said. And it’s never been harder to keep up with the Joneses, because today we are constantly bombed with seemingly perfect images of other peoples’ lives. Eventually Magee learned that she had to let go a little and allow herself to show up with all her imperfections. She eventually learned to trust that she could show up, not being perfect, and still feel valued. She said, “I can be imperfect and everything can be fine!” 4. How did Hailey Magee feel when she got an A-minus? A. Satisfied. B. Disappointed. C. Excited. D. Uninterested. 5. Which of the following problems may NOT be caused by perfectionism? A. Increased stress levels. B. High work efficiency. C. Negative feelings. D. Physical problems. 6. Why do parents feel the need to push their children towards high achievement? A Children naturally need strict guidance to succeed. B. Schools require parents to enforce academic excellence. C. Social pressures and competitions influence parents. D. High achievement guarantees future happiness and wealth. 7. What did Hailey Magee realize in the end? A. Hiding imperfections is key to gaining social approval. B. True confidence comes from outperforming others. C. Accepting imperfections allows one to feel worthy without perfection. D. Perfectionism can be cured by reducing social media use. B 5. B 6. C 7. 根据文章第一段“With tears blurring her vision, Hailey Magee rushed all the way home the moment she discovered her grade report card had an A-mınus. Growing up she had learned that the way to receive confirmation and love from family members and teachers was to be a high achiever. So to Magee, that A-minus felt like a failure. “I was shattered,” she said. “In that moment, I felt like my self-worth as a human had fallen far below what it would have been if I’d gotten an A or an A-plus.”(当Hailey Magee发现自己的成绩报告单上有一个A -时,泪水模糊了她的双眼,她一路飞奔着回了家。 根据文章第二段“High levels of perfectionism were linked with depression, anxiety, eating disorders and self-harm. The constant stress of attempting to be perfect can also leave people stressed and suffering from headaches and insomnia (失眠).(高度的完美主义与抑郁、焦虑、饮食失调和自我伤害相关联。试图做到完美的持续压力也会让人倍感压力,饱受头痛和失眠之苦。)”可知,高度的完美主义与抑郁、焦虑等负面情绪相关,会导致压力增加以及头痛、失眠等身体问题。而文中未提及完美主义会带来高工作效率。故选B。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段“Many parents today feel a sense of competitiveness that they may push onto their kids, whether by pressuring them to get perfect grades so they can get into top schools or engaging them in extracurricular (课外的) activities that might look good on a college application. But if a child is only rewarded for high achievement, over time they learn that their value as a person depends on being perfect. Instagram, Facebook and other social media platforms also increase unhealthy comparisons.(如今,许多父母都有一种竞争意识,他们可能会把这种意识强加给孩子,比如给孩子施压,让他们取得优异的成绩以便能进入顶尖学校,或者让孩子参加一些在大学申请中看起来很加分的课外活动。但是,如果一个孩子只有在取得优异成绩时才会得到奖励,久而久之,他们就会认为自己作为一个人的价值取决于是否完美。Instagram、Facebook和其他社交媒体平台也加剧了这种不健康的比较。)”可知,如今许多父母自身有竞争意识,这种竞争意识可能来自于社交媒体带来的不健康比较等社会压力和竞争,所以他们把这种压力施加在孩子身上,促使孩子取得高成就。故选C。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“Eventually Magee learned that she had to let go a little and allow herself to show up with all her imperfections. She eventually learned to trust that she could show up, not being perfect, and still feel valued. She said, “I can be imperfect and everything can be fine!”(最终,Magee意识到她必须稍微放手,允许自己带着所有的不完美展现自己。她最终学会了相信,即使自己不完美,也依然能感受到自身的价值。她说:“我可以不完美,而且一切都会好起来的!”)”可知,最终Magee意识到她必须放下一些东西,允许自己带着所有的不完美展现自己,这样仍然能感受到自身的价值。所以,Hailey Magee最终意识到接受不完美能让一个人在不完美的情况下也能感受到自身的价值。故选C。 C A growing number of virtual and physical training courses now guarantee learners the ability to acquire “native accent”. However, is it necessary to sound exactly like a native speaker? Some experts say it is not. Eusebia V. Mont leads the Accent Modification (修正) Program at the University of Maryland’s Department of Hearing & amp; Speech Sciences. Mont talked about it to reporters. Students come to the program for one or two school terms. They meet in a group for 90 minutes a week. Each student meets with one other student and a “doctor” for more individual work. Altogether the program amounts to about 60 hours of learning in class. Mont says the rate of progress absolutely depends on the type of accent it is, how long they’ve been speaking English and how often they speak English. Mont says, “I view accent as the spread of culture; the spread of a person’s individual identity — and I don’t work to remove any part of culture from an individual.” Students will most probably work in English-speaking environments when they leave school. The program teaches them tools for this. For example, they learn how to give an “elevator pitch” — a short description of an idea — and how to discuss their research. They also practice interviewing and giving presentations at work. Mont says that there are a few methods for modifying accent, but most have the same basis. One method is called the Compton Method. Arthur J. Compton developed the method for English learners who know English vocabulary and grammar fairly well. It begins with a test to find out how the student’s native language affects different areas of pronunciation. Then learners use practice materials to record their own voice and compare their pronunciation attempts to recordings of a native speaker. Another method is the Tomatis Method, which uses special headphones and includes listening to electronically modified voices and asks students to find the difference between their pronunciation and the voices they hear. This method is also used to cure children who have mental conditions that can cause difficulty in language learning. Mont’s final advice to English learners is not to expect to sound exactly like a native speaker. And remember: even native English speakers do not all speak alike! “What we value most is helping you speak clearly while keeping the cultural richness in your voice,” Mont says. 8. What is the key aim of the Accent Modification Program for students? A. It is meant to help students get rid of their accent. B. It divides students into different classes based on their abilities. C It offers students a total of 90 minutes’ study over one or two school terms. D. It instructs students how to communicate in English-speaking environments. 9. What does the underlined part “elevator pitch” mean in paragraph 4? A. Discussing one’s research in brief. B. Giving speeches in a small space. C. Presenting an idea to others efficiently. D. Practicing interviewing skills in an elevator. 10. What way do the Compton Method and the Tomatis Method both use? A. Require students to take a test first. B. Employ the method of comparison. C. Serve students who have mastered English well. D. Require students to record their voices with equipment. 11. What would be the best title for the passage? A. Ways to Sound like a Native Speaker B. The Situation of the Accent/Modification Program C. Keep Your Identity While Changing Your Accent D. The Development of the Accent Modification Industry 【答案】8. D 9. C 10. B 11. 根据第四段“Students will most probably work in English-speaking environments when they leave school. The program teaches them tools for this. For example, they learn how to give an ‘elevator pitch’ — a short description of an idea— and how to discuss their research. They also practice interviewing and giving presentations at work.(学生毕业后很可能会在英语环境中工作。这个项目教给他们应对这种情况的方法。例如,他们学习如何进行‘电梯游说’—— 对一个想法的简短描述 —— 以及如何讨论他们的研究。他们还练习面试和在工作中做报告)”可知,口音修正项目的关键目标是指导学生如何在说英语的环境中进行交流。故选D。 【9题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第四段“For example, they learn how to give an “elevator pitch” — a short description of an idea— and how to discuss their research.(例如,他们学习如何进行 ‘电梯游说’—— 对一个想法的简短描述 —— 以及如何讨论他们的研究)”可知,elevator pitch指的是高效地向别人展示一个想法。 根据第五段“One method is called the Compton Method. Arthur J. Compton developed the method for English learners who know English vocabulary and grammar fairly well. It begins with a test to find out how the student’s native language affects different areas of pronunciation. Then learners use practice materials to record their own voice and compare their pronunciation attempts to recordings of a native speaker.(一种方法叫做康普顿方法。亚瑟・J・康普顿为相当了解英语词汇和语法的英语学习者开发了这种方法。它从一个测试开始,以找出学生的母语如何影响发音的不同方面。然后学习者使用练习材料录制自己的声音,并将他们的发音尝试与以英语为母语的人的录音进行比较)”以及第六段“Another method is the Tomatis Method, which uses special headphones and includes listening to electronically modified voices and asks students to find the difference between their pronunciation and the voices they hear.(另一种方法是托马蒂斯方法,它使用特殊的耳机,包括听经过电子修改的声音,并要求学生找出他们的发音和他们听到的声音之间的差异)”可知,康普顿方法和托马蒂斯方法都使用了比较的方法。 通读全文特别是根据第三段“Mont says, ‘I view accent as the spread of culture; the spread of a person’s individual identity — and I don’t work to remove any part of culture from an individual.’(蒙特说:‘我认为口音是文化的传播;是一个人个人身份的传播——而且我不会致力于从一个人身上去除任何文化的部分。’)”以及最后一段“Mont’s final advice to English learners is not to expect to sound exactly like a native speaker. And remember: even native English speakers do not all speak alike! ‘What we value most is helping you speak clearly while keeping the cultural richness in your voice,’ Mont says.(蒙特对英语学习者的最后建议是不要期望听起来完全像以英语为母语的人。而且要记住:即使是以英语为母语的人说话也并不都一样!蒙特说:‘我们最看重的是在帮助你清晰表达的同时,保持你声音中的文化丰富性。’)”可知,文章主要讲的是在改变口音的同时要保持自己的身份和文化特色,C 选项Keep Your Identity While Changing Your Accent(在改变口音的同时保持你的身份)符合。故选C。 D On a recent sunny day, 13,000 chickens roam over Larry Brown’s 40 windswept acres in Shiner, Texas. Some rest in the shade of a parked car. Others drink water with the cows. This all seems random, but it’s by design, part of what the $6.1 billion U. S. egg industry bets will be its next big thing: climate-friendly eggs. These eggs, which are making their debut now on shelves for as much as $8 a dozen, are still labeled organic and animal-friendly, but they’re also from birds that liven farms using regenerative(再生) agriculture — special techniques to cultivate rich soils that can trap greenhouse gases. Such eggs could be marketed as helping to fight climate change. “I’m excited about our progress,” says Brown, who harvests eggs for Denver-based Nest Fresh Eggs and is adding more cover crops that draw worms and crickets for the chickens to eat. The birds’ waste then fertilizes fields. Such improvements “allow our hens to forage for high-quality natural feed that will be good for the land, the hens, and the eggs that we supply to our customers.” The egg industry’s push is the first major test of whether animal products from regenerative farms can become the next premium offering. In barely more than a decade, organic eggs went from being dismissed as a niche product in natural foods stores to being sold at Walmart. More recently there were similar doubts about probiotics (益生菌的) and plant-based meats, but both have exploded into major supermarket categories. If the sustainable-egg rollout is successful, it could open the floodgates for regenerative beef, broccoli, and beyond. Regenerative products could be a hard sell, because the concept is tough to define quickly, says Julie Stanton, associate professor of agricultural economics at Pennsylvania State University Brandywine. Such farming also brings minimal, if any, improvement to the food products (though some producers say their eggs have more protein). The industry is betting that the same consumers paying more for premium attributes such as free-range, non-GMO, and pasture-raised eggs will embrace sustainability. Surveys show that younger generations are more concerned about climate change, and some of the success of plant-based meat can be chalked up to shoppers wanting to signal their desire to protect the environment. Young adults “really care about the planet,” says John Brunnquell, president of Egg Innovations. “They are absolutely altering the food chain beyond what I think even they understand what they’re doing.” 12. The climate friendly eggs are produced ________. A. at a considerably low cost B. on specially designed farms C. as a replacement for organic eggs D. at the demand of regular shoppers 13. What is Larry Brown excited about in terms of his progress? A. Reducing the damage of worms. B. Accelerating the disposal of waste. C. Creating a sustainable system. D. Attracting customers to his products. 14. What does the example of organic eggs in Paragraph 4 suggest? A. The potential of regenerative product B. The barriers in the egg industry C. The doubts over natural feed D. The promotional success of supermarket 15. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To criticize the U. S. egg industry for its lack of innovation. B. To explain the concept of regenerative agriculture and its application in the egg industry. C. To promote Larry Brown’s farm and its unique practices. D. To argue that climate-friendly eggs are not worth the high price. B 13. C 14. A 15. 根据第二段“These eggs, which are making their debut now on shelves for as much as $8 a dozen, are still labeled organic and animal-friendly, but they’re also from birds that liven farms using regenerative (再生) agriculture — special techniques to cultivate rich soils that can trap greenhouse gases.(这些鸡蛋现在首次在货架上亮相,每打售价高达8美元,它们仍被标注为有机且对动物友好的鸡蛋,但它们也来自那些生活在采用再生农业的农场里的鸡——采用特殊技术来培育能够捕获温室气体的肥沃土壤。)” 根据第三段“‘I’m excited about our progress,’ says Brown, who harvests eggs for Denver-based Nest Fresh Eggs and is adding more cover crops that draw worms and crickets for the chickens to eat. The birds’ waste then fertilizes fields. Such improvements ‘allow our hens to forage for high-quality natural feed that will be good for the land, the hens, and the eggs that we supply to our customers.’(‘我对我们取得的进展感到兴奋,’布朗说,他为丹佛的雀巢鲜蛋公司收集鸡蛋,并且正在种植更多的覆盖作物,这些作物能引来蠕虫和蟋蟀供鸡食用。鸡的粪便随后给田地施肥。这样的改进‘让我们的母鸡能够觅食高质量的天然饲料,这对土地、母鸡以及我们供应给客户的鸡蛋都有好处。’)”可知,布朗所做的一系列举措形成了一个良性的循环,对土地、母鸡和鸡蛋都有益,也就是创造了一个可持续的系统。故选C。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段“The egg industry’s push is the first major test of whether animal products from regenerative farms can become the next premium offering. In barely more than a decade, organic eggs went from being dismissed as a niche product in natural foods stores to being sold at Walmart. More recently there were similar doubts about probiotics (益生菌的) and plant-based meats, but both have exploded into major supermarket categories. If the sustainable-egg rollout is successful, it could open the floodgates for regenerative beef, broccoli, and beyond.(鸡蛋行业的这一推动是对来自再生农场的动物产品能否成为下一个高端产品的首次重大考验。 故选A。 根据第二段“but they’re also from birds that liven farms using regenerative (再生) agriculture — special techniques to cultivate rich soils that can trap greenhouse gases.(但它们也来自那些生活在采用再生农业的农场里的鸡——采用特殊技术来培育能够捕获温室气体的肥沃土壤。)” Why dogs chase their tails? There are some answers to this question, which might surprise you. While tail chasing can be a harmless behavior, sometimes it can indicate a potential issue requiring a vet visit. Below are some common meanings behind your dog chasing its tail. ____16____ It might look like a strange activity to humans, but tail- chasing is a simple way for dogs to let loose and have a little fun. ____17____ Just keep in mind that a constantly bored or stressed dog might be feeling left out, so make sure its basic needs are being met, including exercise and socialization. Your dog is feeling stressed. On the other hand, uncontrollable tail- chasing behavior could be a warning sign that your dog is anxious or stressed. ____18____ By the way, this fruitless and frustrating behavior is what led to the saying “like a dog chasing its tail”. Your dog wants your attention. Tail- chasing is actually a go- to behavior for young dogs who are playing and learning about their bodies. And it’s hard not to smile when you see this happening, especially in puppies, because it’s funny and adorable. But this type of response can cause your pup to keep doing it. Try not to encourage this behavior. ____19____ Your dog may have intestinal parasites This is another common reason why dogs chase their tails. It’s also a reason why dogs chew their tails, too. 【16题详解】 空格处是该部分的主题句,根据下文的句子“It might look like a strange activity to humans, but tail- chasing is a simple way for dogs to let loose and have a little fun.(这对人类来说可能是一种奇怪的活动,但对狗来说,追尾巴是一种简单的放松和娱乐的方式。)”和“Just keep in mind that a constantly bored or stressed dog might be feeling left out, so make sure its basic needs are being met, including exercise and socialization.(只要记住,一只经常感到无聊或压力大的狗可能会感到被冷落,所以要确保它的基本需求得到满足,包括锻炼和社交。)” 所以,B项“Your dog is expressing its emotion.(你的狗在表达它的情感。)” 【17题详解】 根据空格前的句子“It might look like a strange activity to humans, but tail- chasing is a simple way for dogs to let loose and have a little fun.(这对人类来说可能是一种奇怪的活动,但对狗来说,追尾巴是一种简单的放松和娱乐的方式。)”可知, 追尾巴是狗的一种娱乐方式,为什么它们会采取这种娱乐方式呢?G项“If a dog doesn’t have anything or anyone to play with, it might need to entertain itself.(如果一只狗没有任何东西或任何人可以玩,它可能需要娱乐自己。)” 【18题详解】 根据空格前的句子“On the other hand, uncontrollable tail- chasing behavior could be a warning sign that your dog is anxious or stressed.(另一方面,无法控制的追尾行为可能是你的狗焦虑或有压力的警告信号。)”可知,追尾巴表明你的狗可能焦虑或有压力,这种情况下应该怎样做呢?E项“Find out what’s at the root of your dog’s anxiety and then address that problem.(找出你的狗焦虑的根源,然后解决这个问题。)” 【19题详解】 根据空格前的句子“And it’s hard not to smile when you see this happening, especially in puppies, because it’s funny and adorable. But this type of response can cause your pup to keep doing it. Try not to encourage this behavior.(当你看到这种情况发生时,很难不微笑,尤其是在小狗身上,因为这很有趣,也很可爱。 但是这种类型的反应会导致你的狗狗继续这样做。 尽量不要鼓励这种行为。)”可知,作者建议不要用微笑这样的行为鼓励狗的追尾巴行为,那么见到狗追尾巴应该怎样做呢?D项“Instead, provide a distraction by giving your dog a new toy or going on a walk.(相反,给你的狗一个新玩具或散散步来分散注意力。)” 【20题详解】 根据该部分的主题句“Your dog may have intestinal parasites(你的狗可能有肠道寄生虫)”和空格前的句子“This is another common reason why dogs chase their tails. It’s also a reason why dogs chew their tails, too. Infections are generally common in young dogs and can even be deadly in some puppies if left untreated.(这是狗追逐尾巴的另一个常见原因。这也是狗咬尾巴的原因之一。感染在幼犬中很常见,如果不及时治疗,一些幼犬甚至可能致命。)”可知,空格处的句子应该涉及到狗可能会感染的寄生虫,所以,F项“Common types of parasites include tapeworms, roundworms, hookworms and so on.(常见的寄生虫有绦虫、蛔虫、钩虫等。)” While working in the yard on August 18th, Favorin also kept an eye on his granddaughter. Peeking into our library, we’ll see newspapers gathering dust, like long-forgotten friends. However, print media offers a unique reading experience. It encourages a slower and more reflective reading process, allowing readers to digest information more thoroughly. Besides, it endows readers with the feel of the pages, the ink smell, and the freedom to flip through pages at our own pace, which offers us an escape into another world and a deeper dive into knowledge. Therefore, let’s bring back the joy of turning pages! My friends Tyrone and Brian encouraged me to join them in water to have fun. My mistake had just cost us the Ring-Diving Contest. “Don’t feel bad, Steve,” Brian said to me. “Yeah, Steve,” Tyrone said. “I didn’t find any rings either.” No matter what Brian and Tyrone said, I was the reason we lost. I didn’t mind so much for myself, but I hated dragging my friends down with me. Now our team was dead the last. “Lighten up!” Tyrone continued. “It’s supposed to be fun.” I had moved to this town from the city and settled into life here pretty well, except for times like this. All the Allie Pond kids could swim like fish, and they loved to compete. I’d never been a great swimmer. To make things worse, it required bravery for me even to enter the water of a lake this big, with live fish and a dirty bottom. I held my breath whenever I stuck my toes in. The judge Mr. Dale announced, “The final is worth twenty-five points. It decides the winner. It’s the most exciting Alligator (鳄鱼) Race!”“What’s that?” I asked Brian. “There aren’t any alligators in this lake.” Fear shot through me; anything was possible. “Are there?” “Don’t worry. No real alligators,” Tyrone said. “Here’s the deal. The kids are on their backs, right? They’re hanging on to each other. The first team across the finish line wins.” “Why do they call it the Alligator Race?” Tyrone explained, “If there are three kids, the first guy uses his arms, the second guy holds his legs, and the third guy holds the second guy’s legs but kicks his own legs. All together it looks like a big alligator racing in the water.” It sounded challenging, and I was more worried. Brian and Tyrone could have made a good team, but I might drag Brian and Tyrone down again. I wanted to quit. “Look, guys,” I said. “I have to tell you something.” ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ As Mr. Dale asked contestants to get ready, we walked into the lake. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】范文 “Look, guys,” I said. “I have to tell you something.” “We know,” Brian said. “You can’t swim well, right? But both of us think you will make it.” “That’s not what I was going to say!” I said. I leveled with them, telling them I was so uneasy and that they could do better without me. Tyrone shook my shoulders and laughed, “Steve! We’re a team. We’re gonna win!” I looked around. There were four lifeguards, the water was only up to my chest and my teammates were great. I took a deep breath and nodded. As Mr. Dale asked contestants to get ready, we walked into the lake. Brian was in front, Tyrone was in back, and I was in the middle. Mr. Dale blew his whistle, and we started to move. On our backs, we swam hard to the other side. The cheering didn’t stop until after the race, when I was standing in the water, my feet in the dirty bottom. We took second place. B With tears blurring her vision, Hailey Magee rushed all the way home the moment she discovered her grade report card had an A-mınus. A. Children naturally need strict guidance to succeed. C A growing number of virtual and physical training courses now guarantee learners the ability to acquire “native accent”. 8 What is the key aim of the Accent Modification Program for students? A. It is meant to help students get rid of their accent. B. It divides students into different classes based on their abilities. C. It offers students a total of 90 minutes’ study over one or two school terms. The Development of the Accent Modification Industry D On a recent sunny day, 13,000 chickens roam over Larry Brown’s 40 windswept acres in Shiner, Texas. More recently there were similar doubts about probiotics (益生菌) and plant-based meats, but both have exploded into major supermarket categories. Why dogs chase their tails? My friends Tyrone and Brian encouraged me to join them in water to have fun. My mistake had just cost us the Ring-Diving Contest. “Don’t feel bad, Steve,” Brian said to me. “Yeah, Steve,” Tyrone said. “I didn’t find any rings either.” No matter what Brian and Tyrone said, I was the reason we lost. I didn’t mind so much for myself, but I hated dragging my friends down with me. Now our team was dead the last. “Lighten up!” Tyrone continued. “It’s supposed to be fun.” I had moved to this town from the city and settled into life here pretty well except for times like this. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
