Passage 10(23-24八年级下·辽宁 丹东市东港市·期中)
Many social media posts (帖子) may let you believe that everyone is happy all the time, but being happy all the time is simply not possible.
As a teenager, you probably expected to get good grades in an exam or to win the most important basketball game, but it didn’t happen. Good results make you happy and bad results make you sad. But sadness itself is not bad, it can drive you to improve yourself next time.
However, when people feel sad for a long time and it starts to affect (影响) their daily lives, it’s called depression (抑郁). You don’t want to get out of bed in the morning. My parents told me that my expectations were unrealistic. Dogs don’t live forever. Moreover, Rebel had a good life. If I have a good life, Rebel must be happy, too.
Depression is not to show your weakness, it’s part of our character. It is not a person’s fault (过错). Just know that many famous people, like the author J. K. Rowling and the comedy actor Jim Carey, have said that they once get depressed. It’s normal for people to feel down or sad sometimes. So you should know what to do to stop depression or make yourself less depressed.

64 However, the ideas behind kung fu are interesting. There is a saying by Bruce Lee. I really like it. “Be formless (无定形的)…shapeless (无形的), like water,” he once said. He meant that you should change your attitude (态度) when you face difficulties. 65

Did you watch the Chinese cartoon movie Chang’an last summer holiday? The movie is so popular with people of all ages. It has made not only Chinese fans but also the world enjoy the beauty in Chinese poetry (诗歌).
Named after the ancient city of Xi’an in Shanxi province, the movie showed us amazing life of poet Li Bai in fact. It also brought us back to the golden age in Chinese history—Tang Dynasty. Tang poems in the movie helped us get closer to a real Li Bai and his dreams. When Li Bai enjoyed nature, he said, “Its torrent dashes down three thousand feet from high; As if the Silver River fell from the blue sky (飞流直下三千尺,疑是银河落九天).” When he got into trouble, he said, “Heaven gave me talent for a reason; Spent now, riches return in season (天生我才必有用,千金散尽还复来).” Everyone in the cinema couldn’t help speaking them out loudly when they heard these classical poems again.
Many parents brought their kids to watch the movie. After watching it, children had a better understanding of the poems in the textbooks. And poems from Li Bai gave them energy (能量) to get over the difficulties in life. Li Bai’s lifelong friendship with Gao Shi also touched their heart and taught them to cherish (珍惜) friends around them.
Li Bai has been away from us for a long time, but he is always the “immortal” in our hearts with his great poems. And we will let more people fall in love with fantastic Chinese poems and culture some day.
