Large cities are, in many ways, fantastic places to live. They usually have the best schools, biggest companies and best hospitals. However, they are also crowded, as people from small towns choose to live in large cities for school or work.
Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is a big city with 13.93 million people. The Japanese government (政府) is thinking about paying people to leave the city. And it is planning to offer 3 million yen (日元) to people who decided to move and find a job elsewhere.
This is because the city is getting too crowded (拥挤的). According to NIIK, Tokyo and the areas around it have a total population (人口) of about 38 million. The number of people moving to the areas has been greater than the number of people who have left for the last 22 years. About one out of every three people in Japan lives in Tokyo.
This has put a lot of pressure on transportation (交通), hospitals and other public services (公共服务) of the city. What’s more, there has been a population drop (人口下降) in other parts of Japan. Young people in those places leave and never return. Villages (村庄) and towns in the countryside are mainly made up of old people those days. Schools are closing and nobody will work on the farm.
For many years, Japan’s government has tried to move people away from the capital and help rebuild (重建) the countryside. Some local governments have used tax cuts (减税) to encourage (鼓励) companies to come back. But it doesn’t work well. Top schools and companies are all in Tokyo, so leaving the capital seems to be a bad decision (决定) for most people.
28.How will the Japanese government make people leave Tokyo?
A.By giving less public services. B.By giving them money.
C.By increasing (增加) house prices. D.By making a law.
29.In Paragraph 3, the writer uses statistics (数据) to show ________.
A.Tokyo is a fantastic place to live B.Tokyo is becoming too crowded
C.Tokyo is a city with a long history D.Tokyo has developed fast over the years
30.From the passage, we can infer (推断) that ________.
A.Tokyo is the biggest city in Japan
B.there will be fewer old people in the village
C.companies in Japan don’t need to pay tax (付税)
D.people won’t leave Tokyo in a short time

Gordon Williams’s hobby may seem strange to people when they meet it for the first time. But it is a traditional craft (手艺). He builds model ships inside old bottles.
Gordon has always loved ships, especially sailing ships from the old days. His interest in this hobby began many years ago when he visited a museum in Ottawa, Canada, where there was a show of model ships in bottles. Gordon thought the show was wonderful. But he wondered how the craftsman got the ship through the thin neck of the bottle. Gordon decided to find it out.
He found an old master craftsman who was willing to teach him the necessary skills. First, Gordon takes an old bottle. Then he puts in a layer of putty (一层油灰), carefully shaped and painted, to make it look like the sea. Next, he builds the ship. To get the ship through the neck of the bottle, Gordon holds down the masts (桅杆). Once the ship is inside the bottle, he takes a long, thin tool to raise the masts.
Gordon has completed well over one hundred models. His wish is to build bigger model ships, such as aircraft carriers. This will be more challenging (挑战的), as he will have to build the ship actually inside the bottle. His hobby certainly needs time, patience and a steady hand.
31.What do people think of Gordon’s hobby when people first meet it?
A.Traditional. B.Useful. C.Unusual. D.Interesting.
32.Which of the following pictures shows the last step of Gordon’s work?

33.Gordon’s new plan is more challenging because he will ________.
A.make aircraft inside the bottle
B.build more than one hundred ships
C.put a bigger model ship inside the bottle
D.build bigger model ships inside the bottle

Rabbit Shiny and tortoise(乌龟)Smily were neighbors. One day they were reading a story about their great grandfathers: Shiny’s and Smily’s great grandfathers decided to have a race. While Shiny’s great grandfather fell asleep during the race, Smily’s great grandfather won the race by slowly walking towards the finishing line.
Smily said, “If your great grandfather didn’t go to sleep, my great granddad might never win. So his win was not a real win.”
The next day there was a notice in the jungle(丛林)newspaper. It said that there would be a race and the winner would win many prizes. The race started from the bear’s house. From there, the runners had to cross the river. But most of the animals could not both run fast and swim fast. So they didn’t know what to do. Shiny and Smily made a plan.
Shiny ran, while smily was sitting on his back. He and other animals, like the deer, reached the river side at the same time. But they saw the swift(湍急的)water and stood there because they were worried. None of them liked the idea of crossing the river. Smily quickly got into the water and Shiny sat on his back. Smily started swimming. Soon they reached the other side of the river. Shiny got down from Smily’s back and Smily climbed on Shiny’s back again. Shiny ran fast. They reached the finish line first.

A.Tokyo is the biggest city in Japan B.there will be fewer old people in the village
C.companies in Japan don’t need to pay tax (付税) D.people won’t leave Tokyo in a short time
【答案】28.B 29.B 30.D
【导语】本文主要讲述了日本东京因人口过多而面临的压力,以及日本政府为了缓解这一问题所采取的措施。
28.细节理解题。 根据“The Japanese government is thinking about paying people to leave the city. And it is planning to offer 3 million yen to people who decided to move and find a job elsewhere.”可知日本政府计划通过提供金钱的方式来鼓励人们离开东京。故选B。

A. B.
C. D.
33.Gordon’s new plan is more challenging because he will ________.
A.make aircraft inside the bottle B.build more than one hundred ships
C.put a bigger model ship inside the bottle D.build bigger model ships inside the bottle

A.Tokyo is the biggest city in Japan B.there will be fewer old people in the village
C.companies in Japan don’t need to pay tax (付税) D.people won’t leave Tokyo in a short time
C
A. B.
C. D.
33.Gordon’s new plan is more challenging because he will ________.
A.make aircraft inside the bottle B.build more than one hundred ships
C.put a bigger model ship inside the bottle D.build bigger model ships inside the bottle

“Both of them are the winners.” The president of the jungle said, “Shiny and Smily helped each other during the race and they won. So let’s give them a big hand.”
