Ⅰ.阅读理解
A
James Wisniewski likes video games a lot. He plays 6 to 14 hours a day, ignoring friends and family for the pleasures of the virtual world. Wisniewski, from the United Kingdom, says games are the most important thing in his life. “I wake up and think about it; I go to bed and think about it.”
To help young people like Wisniewski, the National Health Service (NHS), is planning to set the country's first specialist clinic to treat video-game addicts between ages 13 and 25. The Guardian reports it will begin treating people in November.
Teenagers addicted to gaming will get one-on-one treatment from psychiatrists(精神病医生) either in person at a clinic or via Skype video chat. Their parents will get advice on how to manage their child's addiction and reduce the amount of time they spend online.
The move comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) listed “gaming disorder” as a mental health condition.
“Gaming disorder is not a mental illness to be taken lightly: we are talking about examples where someone may spend up to 12 hours a day playing computer games and can end up having fewer and fewer friends,” Henrietta Bowden-Jones, director of the NHS Center, told The Telegraph.
Many countries are trying different ways to deal with the problem of gaming addiction. South Korea passed a “shutdown law” to stop children under the age of 16 from playing video games between the hours of midnight and 6 a.m. In Japan, meanwhile, players are reminded if they spend more than a certain amount of time each month playing games. In the United States, the nonprofit Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) puts age restrictions on most games, meaning that children under a certain age are unable to buy them.
Here are some tips from The Telegraph to prevent yourself from becoming addicted to games:
·Set a reasonable time for how long you can play games each day.
·Find some other hobbies, like sports or reading.
·If you can't control yourself, ask your friends or family for help.

In 2012, an iPhone fell into my hands. This smart technology seemed like the entrance to only fun and positive things like chatting with friends and blogging.
However, seven years later, I had become horribly limited to it. Recent reports show that I'm not alone. According to a study, the average American spends five hours a day on smart devices(装置)and about 2.5 of those hours are spent on social, messaging, media and entertainment apps.
It's hard to explain when the love and joy I felt for my iPhone turned into dependency. I fell asleep to my phone every night and woke to it each morning. I checked the weather app every morning before I chose how to dress for the day. I used it to help me find my way through a city I should know well enough on my own. I updated my e-mail box every time I picked my phone up.
Just like with any addiction, my phone dependency began to influence my life. While spending time with family, I'd stare into a small screen on my lap instead of being involved in communicating with my loved ones. At work, my productivity levels dropped. And then, my four-year relationship came to an end. Eventually, I was left with years of memories and a mobile phone that couldn't provide enjoyable company across a dinner table, share in the joys of experiencing a concert or kiss me goodnight before bed.
Now, I move through life with more purpose and intention. I've cut back on carelessly giving away my limited time and attention to my phone. Instead, I focus my efforts on being as present as possible. Truly training the mind to stay present is a long and challenging road, but it's important to start somewhere.
I hope you'll take a deep look at your own phone habits and reevaluate how important a role you are letting it play in your life. Whether or not you've reached a place in your life where your screen time feels problematic, there's no harm in mindfully giving your current practices some thought.
