When I was in middle school, my family moved to Seattle, where my parents started their new business — a small grocery store downstairs my house. As a girl of shy and reserved nature, I had to take a fresh start to fit into the sophisticated(复杂的) city life.
One sunny day, my school announced an exciting event, a talent show for the local food bank. Students were encouraged to showcase their unique talents in front of the public in the city hall on National Day. A buzz of excitement fed the school as everyone began preparing for the big day. Deep down, I felt a spark of curiosity and a desire to participate. However, my self-doubt held me back, “I don’t have any special skills to share.”
Days turned into weeks, and the talent show drew closer. I couldn’t shake the upsetting feeling until one day, Emma, one of the most popular girls in my class, came to me while I was helping in the grocery store after class. “How about singing together in the talent show?” She grinned, “I heard you singing a tune, along the way back home. I can’t help following you here.” Gosh, I couldn’t believe my ears. Emma, with personality and popularity, acknowledged my little talent. Since Emma had the world’s prettiest voice, I felt like being favoured by fortune.
“You two? The talent show for the food bank?” My mum bent towards us and her face lit up. “A big occasion.” Then a light bulb seemed to go in her head. “Why not practise right now upstairs? I bet you’ll be a perfect match.” Winking(眨眼) at us, she seemed to know we were thinking alike.
Emma and I embarked on rehearsing(排练) almost every single day after school. We brainstormed, exchanged ideas and rehearsed the scene. As the days rolled by, I was feeling pretty good about our act. But the day before the performance, Emma called that she had an acute(急性的) stomachache and was not in any shape to perform.

写作示范
示范一
I was completely knocked out by the news. Despair filled my heart as I realized the show was tomorrow and I was on my own. Thoughts of backing out swirled in my mind. But then, I remembered the countless hours we'd spent rehearsing and the smiles we hoped to bring to those in need through the food bank. Summoning all my courage, I decided to carry on. I called my music teacher, who quickly helped me rewrite the performance to suit a solo act. I practised non - stop until my voice was hoarse.
Finally came the big moment. My legs trembled as I walked onto the stage. The auditorium was packed. I took a deep breath and began to sing. At first, my voice was barely audible, but as the melody took hold, I found my rhythm. I sang with all my might, pouring my emotions into every note. When I finished, there was a brief hush, and then the applause was deafening. I had not only conquered my fear but also made a real difference. This experience taught me that I was capable of far more than I'd ever dreamed.
示范二
I was completely knocked out by the news. I felt like the ground had been pulled from under my feet. For a while, I just sat there, stunned. Giving up seemed like the easiest option. However, I thought about the purpose of the talent show — to help the food bank. I couldn't let the people who depended on it down. With new determination, I decided to perform solo. I spent the night revising the choreography and adding some personal touches to the act.
Finally came the big moment. The stage lights were blinding, and the audience's chatter added to my nerves. I took a leap of faith and started singing. My hands were shaking, but I pushed through. As the song progressed, I got lost in the music. I could feel the energy of the audience. When I ended the song, there was a moment of silence, and then the room erupted with cheers. I had done it! This experience not only boosted my confidence but also made me realize that I could overcome any obstacle if I set my mind to it.
参考答案
I was completely knocked out by the news. What should I do? Having prepared for such a long time, I didn’t think of that coming up. Feeling at a loss, I was brainstorming as hard as I could to think of a solution, when a gentle touch on my back brought me back to reality. It was my mum, who looked at me with care and concern. “You have prepared for it enough. You can do it by yourself.” She said after my stumbled explanation. I looked back at her eyes, and a sense of confidence and warmness swelled up in my heart. Yes, I could do it myself.
Finally came the big moment. Looking around the audience, I stepped onto the stage, with butterflies in my stomach. My voice trembled at first, but with the melodies flew around, the nervousness was gone with the wind. Emotions filled in my song, I performed as naturally as I spoke every day. I saw my mum, who was looking at me with reassurance and care. It turned out to be a good performance, which helped me conquer my fears and turned me into a new person.
