阅读下面短文,从短文后所给的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项(选项中有两项为多余选项)。Think of a language as a living thing, 6 And today, in our highly connected world, these changes happen more and more quickly.
Every year, for example, the English Dictionary adds many new words or new meanings for common words to the English language. English has always been made up of words from many languages. 7 But in the last several hundred years, English has borrowed words from other languages. These so-called "borrowed" words are not returned, of course.Instead, they remain part of a language for a very long time.
You can learn a lot about history and culture by looking at what led to the borrowing of certain words. 8 They include skosh,honcho,tycoon,hunky-dory,and,most recently, emoji.
9 In the late 1990s, a Japanese computer programmer named Shigetaku Kurita invented "emoji". It uses pictures, icons and symbols that express meanings without words. 10
A. The English meaning of skosh is "a small amount".
B. Like most living things, languages are always growing and changing.
C. It may surprise you that English has taken some words from Japanese.
D. English will continue to borrow words from Japanese.4Let's take the word "emoji" for example.
F. In Japanese, the word "emoji" means “pictograph".
G. Most English words come from Latin, Germanic languages and French.

In the eyes of many foreigners, Chinese are the best hosts and the worst guests in the world. And western hosts sometimes look 1 (polite) in the eyes of Chinese guests. It's because the guest-host relationship(关系)in China is quite different from 2 in some western countries. In China, guests are almost like gods. Whenever I enter a Chinese friend's home, there is always fruit on the table for me, and someone is quick 3 (bring)me a cup of tea or water. In the west, generally the guest is not a god. Acting like the host's way of doing things is usual behavior(行为)for a guest.
My wife's mother, a very kind Chinese lady, doesn't smoke. When I see some of her guests smoking in her house, as a non-smoker, I feel unhappy. Usually I want to stop them 4 (direct), but I must realize that in China, to be a good host, she must not do that. In most North American homes, if you are a guest, and the hosts are not smokers, you should not smoke in their house. At the very 5 (little), you could ask,"Is it OK if I smoke?"But, don't be surprised if they say, "No, you can't smoke." In our culture,if you smoke in their home, you are a bad guest, but if they don't allow you to smoke in their house, they are not rude hosts.
Guests in China also have special habits. Some western people may not get used 6these habits very soon. Thankfully my wife is Chinese, so whenever we visit a Chinese family, she tells me to buy them a gift. 7,giving a gift to a host is not always necessary (必要的)in my country. So,if you invite 8 (internation) guests to your home, don't be too surprised if they don't bring you a gift.
In China, you probably 9 (not need) to change the guest-host relationship very much because you will probably only be the host, and Chinese are naturally very good hosts. If western hosts invite you to their house, try not to be too surprised if their style of 10 (treat) you is not what you have hoped.
