Before you start, i'd like to offer you some tips. We all know that regular exercise is important, but few of us know how to exercise properly. I've seen many people make the same work out mistakes in this place. One mistake people often make is sticking to the same routine. IT is not good for building up your muscles. I'd like to suggest that you change your routine every other month. What's more, you can try different kinds of workouts, such as jogging, biking or swimming. This can help keep your whole body in shape. Another mistake most people make is to work out intensely almost every day. You need to give your body a break and allow time for the muscles to grow. IT is not the harder the Better. To hard work out days every week is enough. If you really hate to skip a day, you can plan easy exercises on other days. However, expert suggestion is that you take one day off completely each week. Welcome to star fitness club. I'm tina Harrison. Before you start, i'd like to offer you some tips. Music and art festivals are fun and exciting events. If you're panning to go to a festival, it's important to plan your trip carefully to ensure that you re safe and have a good time.

Pick up a less expensive tent with enough room for you and your friends and pack a comfortable seeping bag for yourself, 1f you don't want to camp at the festival, remember to book an AirBnb or a hotel room nearby!
■Place a first aid kit in a proper place
Before the festival, buy a small first aid kit with band aids, and any medication that you need to take, in case you get minor injuries or a headache. Keep it in a proper place that's easily accessible, like your tent or car.

When I was a child growing up in Ohio, the butterflies would sometimes pass through on their way to Mexico. And it was wonderful to see football fields full of them—and I wanted to revisit that on a larger scale (规模). I knew I had to go to see the migration (迁徙) in Mexico.
But I was on a budget. I didn’t want to rent a car in Mexico or take a bus to Valle de Bravo, the starting point for most butterfly journeys, so I called the guys at The Muddy Boot, travel experts in Mexico who can make almost anything happen at a reasonable price.
And so, on January 2, I found myself in The Muddy Boot van (面包车), being driven for two hours from Mexico City to Valle de Bravo, a lovely town on a volcanic lake which is a central point for the butterfly journeys. I booked a two-night stay at the Hotel Rodavento, an all eco-friendly hotel with individual wooden houses spreading throughout the forest and around a lake.
The first reserve I visited was Piedra Herrada, a popular destination, as it is only 40 minutes away from Valle de Bravo. The climb up is tiring. It is advisable to hire a horse. But the horse cannot take you all the way, and there is some hiking in thin air, so you must be patient, drink a lot of water, and be in reasonably good shape.
The walk is more than worth it though. As I struggled to catch my breath, I looked up and lost my breath again. At first glance, the trees had turned into different shapes, but on closer look, every inch of them was covered with butterflies.
A few flew through the air (Most of them were not warm enough). As the sun rose, they began to come alive. Soon the air was filled with flying butterflies, transforming the forest into something magical and straight out of a fairy tale.
24.Why did the author choose to take The Muddy Boot van?
A.She didn’t like a car.
B.She preferred to travel alone.
C.She wanted to save some money.
D.She hoped to reach the destination earlier.
25.What can we learn about Piedra Herrada?
A.It is a very high mountain.
B.It is far from Valle de Bravo.
C.It is full of wild animals.
D.It is only accessible by riding a horse.
26.What made the author’s hiking worthwhile?
A.Becoming healthier. B.Breathing in fresh air.
C.Finding trees of different shapes. D.Seeing the butterfly migration.
27.What type of writing is the text?
A.A news report. B.A scientific paper.
C.A travel diary. D.A commercial advertisement.

In both Africa and Asia elephants are being threatened by changes in their natural habitats. People are moving into the elephants’ habitats and endangering their survival. In the country of Sri Lanka, there is one place where elephants are not only protected but also respected. It is called Elephant Transit Home (ETH).
Set up in 1995, the ETH aims to protect and care for baby elephants that are found injured or living without their mothers in the wild. Every year about 30 baby elephants in Sri Lanka need help. Many are brought to the ETH. There they are given food, shelter, and medical care. Most importantly, they are given the chance to be with other elephants and become part of a herd.
A day at the ETH begins early in the morning when the baby elephants are given their first feeding of milk. During the day, each baby will drink an average of 13 gallons of milk. Older elephants are fed mostly coconut leaves and other native plants. There are no boundaries in the area for the baby elephants as they have the freedom to walk wherever they want. The cost of caring for the baby elephants is high. The ETH spends about $125,000 each year on powdered milk for the baby elephants.
At the ETH, workers try to reduce human connections with the elephants. They also try to increase bonds (联系) between the elephants. It usually takes three years for a baby elephant to be set free into its natural habitat. The elephants are sent back to the wild together with other orphans with whom they have bonded. This program helps them return to the wild as members of a herd that will communicate with each other and take care of each other.
The ETH is considered as one of the best animal protection sites in the world. Not only are the elephants cared for, but they are treated with respect. Most importantly, they go back to live in the wild, where they belong.
28.What do we know about the ETH?
A.It helps to keep baby elephants safe.
B.It saves hundreds of elephants every year.
C.It aims to protect elephants from extinction.
D.It changes elephants’ habitats for the better.
29.What does the underlined word “boundaries” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Extreme climates. B.Dividing lines.
C.Limited foods. D.Endangered species.
30.Why do the workers reduce human connections with the elephants?
A.To train them to stay away from hunters.
B.To provide them with more living space.
C.To study them better in a natural environment.
D.To help them make it in the wild as a herd.
31.What’s the purpose of the text?
A.To show the ways of wildlife protection.
B.To explain the threat baby elephants face.
C.To introduce an animal protection project.
D.To persuade the readers to protect elephants.

An 11-minute quick walk every day could prevent one in ten premature deaths worldwide, according to the largest ever study of its kind. Globally, one in ten early deaths could be avoided if everyone met just half the NHS target for moderate (适度的) -intensity physical activity, the pooled data analysis suggests. The results were published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine.
Moderate-intensity physical activity is defined as activity that raises the heart rate and makes people breathe faster, but still leaves them able to speak. “If you are someone who finds the idea of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity physical activity a week a bit daunting, then our findings should be good news,” said Dr. Soren Brage, of Cambridge’s Medical Research Council epidemiology unit.
Researchers looked at 196 peer-reviewed articles, covering more than 30 million participants from 94 large study teams. They then examined the link between levels of physical activity and the risk of heart disease, cancer and early death.
At least 75 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity lowered the risk of early death by 23%. It was also enough to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by 17% and cancer by 7%. “We know that physical activity, such as walking or cycling, is good for you, especially if you feel it raises your heart rate,” said Prof. James Woodcock, also of Cambridge University. “But what we’ve found is there are substantial benefits to heart health and reducing your risk of cancer even if you can only manage 10 minutes every day.”
The researchers calculated that if everyone in the studies had done the equal of at least 150 minutes a week of moderate activity, about one in six early deaths would have been prevented. But even if everyone had managed at least 75 minutes a week, about one in ten early deaths would have been prevented, the research found.
32.What is the main finding of the study mentioned in the text?
A. Early deaths cannot be prevented through physical activity.
B. Everyone needs to exercise for at least 150 minutes weekly.
C. 11 minutes’ daily quick walking could stop 10% of early deaths.
D . Walking is the best exercise for preventing premature deaths.
33. What does the underlined word “daunting” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A . Exciting. B . Discouraging. C . Confusing. D . Addictive.
34 . How did the researchers do their study?
A . They examined previous similar articles.
B . They cooperated with 94 large study teams.
C . They tracked down different people’s ways of exercise.
D . They asked about 30 million participants to answer questions.
34.What is the message of the study for people who can’t manage 150 minutes of physical activity a week?
A . They should give up on physical activity altogether.
B . 75 minutes’ weekly activity is not enough to keep fit.
C . They should aim for high-intensity workouts for health.
D . Ten minutes’ daily activity can prevent heart disease and cancer.
35 . What is the message of the study for people who can’t manage 150 minutes of physical activity a week?
A . They should give up on physical activity altogether.
B . 75 minutes’ weekly activity is not enough to keep fit.
C . They should aim for high-intensity workouts for health.
D . Ten minutes’ daily activity can prevent heart disease and cancer.

Don't think it's an impossible task to pass your reading tests. Lots of people have shared their successful reading secrets here. 36
Read a passage twice before looking up an unknown word.
If you're reading to gain new vocabulary, you should treat it as a “fill in the blanks” exercise. At first, you'll have to read every paragraph twice. 37 The second time you read it, focus on the words you don't know. Try and work out what each word means from the sentences before and after. If you had to guess the meaning, what would it be?
38
Whenever you are reading in English and learn a new word, don't let it slip away! Write it down with a short definition (定义)or a little drawing. Some students like to keep a specific notebook for this--- their own personal dictionaries! Several studies have shown that writing a piece of information down on paper helps you to remember it more easily.
Read out loud.
If you're going to put time in your reading skills, you may as well get some extra practice for your speaking skills too! 39 It's a great way to get used to speaking English too.
Divide your time into skim reading and deep reading.
You should spend some of your reading time “skim - reading texts”. This way, you learn how to get a general sense of what's going on without understanding every single word. 40 This is when you really focus on understanding everything that's going on.
A.Write down new words.
B.Try reading some passages out loud to yourself.
C.It's normal to forget how to read words correctly.
D.Reading resources should be a little hard for you to skim.
E.You should spend the rest of your reading time “deep reading texts”.
F.Follow these tips to make use of your reading time as effectively as possible.
G.The first time, you’ll probably get the general idea but be confused by a few words.

One morning, Ann’s neighbor Tracy found a lost dog wandering around the local elementary school. She asked Ann if she could keep an eye on the dog and she planned to find its owner. Ann agreed, but she said that she could watch it only for the day because she needed to take care of her son. At the time, her son Thomas was 10 years old, who was recovering from a heart operation.
Later, Tracy took photos of the dog, printed off 400 FOUND fliers, put them in mailboxes and began to find the dog’s owner. Meanwhile, Ann bought some pet supplies, warning her son not to fall in love with the dog. However, her son was filled with excitement as he knew that his mother got a dog back home. He planned to provide the dog with some food everyday.
Four days later, Ann and her son were still looking after the dog, whom they had started to call Riley. During the four days, they took care of the dog carefully, provided some food, took a shower and played with it, and they had already become the best friends.
The evening of the fifth day, when Ann arrived home from work, the dog threw itself against the door and barked madly at her. As soon as she opened the door, Riley dashed into the boy’s room where Ann found Thomas suffering from a heart attack. Riley ran over to Thomas, but as soon as Ann bent over to help him, the dog went silent.
The doctor said if it hadn’t come to get his mother in time, Thomas would have died. Luckily, with the doctor’s help, Thomas could go home tomorrow morning.
“Mum, can we keep it if we can’t find its owner? Even we can ask for permission if we find the owner,” Thomas asked his mother when they came back home.
“Well, since no one has called to claim it, we decide to keep it,” his mother replied. Hearing that, Thomas was excited.

M: Moms are like that. They ask because they care. You’ve got to be patient with them. (12) My parents ask those questions too, but I may not move out soon. The thought of leaving them fills me with fear. What if one of them falls over? What if they both have a fall together? (13)
W: That would be terrible.
Text 9

M: Same here. (17) I only have seven people reporting to me. Yet, sometimes I feel like pulling my hair out. I need to find a way to create harmony within my department. (17)
Text 10 (第18题为推断题)
W: Welcome to Star Fitness Club. I’m Tina Harrison. Before you start, I’d like to offer you some tips. We all know that regular exercise is important, but few of us know how to exercise properly. I’ve seen many people make the same workout mistakes in this place. One mistake people often make is sticking to the same routine. (19) It is not good for building up your muscles. I’d like to suggest that you change your routine every other month. What’s more, you can try different kinds of workouts, such as jogging, biking, or swimming. This can help keep your whole body in shape. Another mistake most people make is to work out intensely almost every day. You need to give your body a break, and allow time for the muscles to grow. It is not “the harder the better”. Two hard workout days every week is enough. (20) If you really hate to skip a day, you can plan easy exercises on other days. However, experts’ suggestion is that you take one day off completely each week.

66.Dear Jack,
How’s everything going? As you know, a Beijing Opera performance, intended to be held in the theater at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday, has attracted lots of fans. I booked a ticket online for you as soon as possible. Unfortunately, it’s declared that the performance will be canceled because some actors can’t be present. What a pity! In order to compensate audiences like you, the theater will not only return money to the relevant bank accounts but also send a letter of apology with a famous actor’s autograph to your E-mail box. Next Saturday evening, I will go to the cinema with my friends. A popular film named The Captain, which is based on the true story of a heroic pilot in China, will be shown.
Would you like to join us? Looking forward to your reply.
Yours,
Li Hua

However, the next day, Ann was told a man named Peter recognized his lost dog. Tracy said Peter called the number on the flier. Ann told Tracy what had happened during these days and even started crying. At the same time, Ann showed great gratitude to the dog. And Tracy told Ann that Peter would drive to her house to pick up his dog this afternoon. Later, Ann told Thomas the owner had called to claim Riley, they needed to return it to the owner. Hearing that news, Thomas put his hands over his mouth. His eyes were wide open for he couldn’t believe what had happened. However, he had to face the truth.
Peter’s car came and Thomas stood silently beside his car. Ann took Riley from her home. Seeing that, Thomas’ tears were rolling down his cheeks. Riley sat beside Thomas, sometimes ran around him and shouted: wom wom, which clearly showed that Riley didn’t want to leave his friend, Thomas. At last, Thomas asked Peter, “Can we keep Riley?” Knowing this point, Peter thought about it for a moment, and then said, “Maybe my dog was supposed to find you, maybe you should keep it.” Hearing that, Thomas ran around after Riley, obviously, they were full of joy.
