B A 13-year-old American boy has become the first person ever to beat the popular video game Tetris The young gamer, Willis Gibson, completed 157 levels before the game technically gave in. Gamers call this kind of ending a “kill screen”. The Tetris program had no more plays to make and so it crashed, freezing the video game. Gibson lives in Oklahoma and goes by the gaming name “Blue Scuti”. He repeatedly shouted “Oh my God” as he beat the game. “I can’t feel my fingers,” Gibson said. Gaming experts had long considered Tetris unbeatable. It came out in 1984 and quickly became a worldwide favorite. Its creator, Alexey Pajitnov, was a computer engineer at the Russian Academy of Sciences. During the game, players move and join together seven different shapes of falling blocks. The goal is for players to fit the blocks together to form solid lines. The blocks fall faster as players progress through higher levels. Gibson reached level 157 and dropped a final piece into place. This caused a single line of blocks to disappear and the game to enter a permanent (永久的) freeze. “This is staggering,” Vince Clemente, CEO of Classic Tetris World Championship, said. “Developers didn’t think anyone would ever make it that far and now the game has been beaten by a human being.” Other fans of the game were quick to share Gibson’s excitement. Tetris chief executive Maya Rogers joined in the celebration. She said that it was fitting Gibson had beaten the game just ahead of 2024, when Tetris was entering its 40th anniversary. “Congratulations to ‘Blue Scuti’,” Rogers said. She added that the event broke any known limits of the game. 4. What do we know about Gibson? A. He got injured while playing Tetris. B. He thought it was not easy to beat Tetris. C. He owed his great success to good luck. D. He planned to challenge gaming experts. 5. What had gaming experts thought of Tetris before Gibson beat it? A. It was designed for teenagers. B. It sometimes showed a “kill screen”. C. It couldn’t be beaten by humans. D. It was the first video game in the world. 6. What does the underlined word “staggering” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Unbelievable. B. Unreasonable. C. Impossible. D. Unacceptable. 7. What is the best title for this text? A. Tetris, a Popular Video Game. B. Tetris Needs Further Programming. C. Gibson, a Talented Game Player. D. A US Teen Becomes the First Human to Beat Tetris. C Tens of millions of bees are likely being killed each day by vehicles in the western United States, a new study finds. The paper published in Sustainable Environment is the first to show how cars may be causing the loss of bees. Bees are important because they help pollinate (传粉) wild plants and a third of the world’s crops. Scientists have studied the “insect disaster” by counting dead insects along roadsides. Most studies have focused on forests and larger insects. But bee diversity (多样性) is greatest in dry, open areas, and most bees are tiny — just 2 to 25 millimeters long. A research team from Utah State University studied bee deaths by driving on highways, paved roads, and unpaved roads during the day when bees are active. They made 29 trips around Utah in spring and summer, traveling more than 9,334 kilometers, and identified bees that were hit by cars. Every trip resulted in at least one bee death, and they found 14 different species. The researchers guessed that one car driving between Salt Lake City and Moab might kill 50 to 175 bees. Based on traffic data, that means several million bees are killed when 94,000 cars travel that route each day. Millions of cars run in Utah daily, and similar trips happen in nearby states, so the total number of bees killed each day in the region is likely in the tens of millions. Although the numbers are based on simple assumptions, they are still important. There are ways to reduce these deaths. Research has shown that bees usually avoid crossing roads unless there are plants in the middle. So, creating healthy habitat along both sides of a road, but not in the middle, could help. 8. What is paragraph 2 mainly about? A. Limitations on such studies. B. The influence of climate on bees. C. Living areas of various bees. D. Scientists’ efforts to study diversity. 9. How does the author mainly develop paragraph 3 and paragraph 4? A. By presenting examples. B. By listing related numbers. C. By making a comparison. D. By providing cause and effect. 10. Which is one way to prevent bees from being killed? A. Raising drivers’ awareness. B. Placing flowers in the middle. C. Growing plants on roadsides. D. Leaving more space available. 11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text? A. To explain the bee’s diversity. B. To remind readers to drive less. C. To introduce the danger to bees. D. To ask people to grow more flowers. D There’re plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables available in local markets. But while those red juicy strawberries look fresh, consumers (消费者) have no way of knowing how long the fruit can be stored at home. The same goes for distribution centers (分销中心) and supermarkets. Now, the food technology startup OneThird, located in the Netherlands, is looking to change that with an infrared (红外线) scanner that can exactly predict how long fresh fruits and vegetables will last. The startup is named OneThird because one-third of food is wasted due to spoilage (变质) every year. The startup’s founders were inspired by a UK company that uses this type of technology in the medical field and decided to see if it was applicable for food. “I looked at the challenges in the food-supply chain and found out that 40 percent of food waste is fresh produce. One of the biggest causes of waste is that nobody knows shelf life.” founder and CEO of OneThird, Marco Snikkers said. Quality inspections (检查) at farms and distribution centers are done manually (手工地). An inspector checks the fruits and vegetables and makes notes about the size and quality. Then the food is sent to consumers without considering travel time or how long the produce will remain usable. Using the infrared scanner at the distribution center means that inspectors can use the information to approve shipments that will ensure the produce can be distributed on a timely basis. This means that a shipment of ripe tomatoes will not be sent long distances away. OneThird’s scanner combines the technology of visual scanners, image modeling, and Artificial Intelligence to provide exact shelf-life predictions. The startup found that the technology can reduce up to 25 percent produce waste that was caused by spoilage. “Global food waste has a great environmental impact; reducing global food waste cuts global greenhouse gas emissions and promotes global food security,” said Jacob Smith, a climate expert from the University of Maine. 12. What problem does OneThird aim to solve? A. The high cost of storing fresh fruits and vegetables. B. Inefficient quality inspections at distribution centers. C. Food waste caused by uncertainty about its shelf life. D. Consumers’ difficulty judging the freshness of produce. 13. What inspired OneThird to come up with the idea of using infrared scanner? A. The use of the device in another field. B. Observation of the food-supply chain. C. Consumer demands for fresher produce. D. Experts’ advice on food waste reduction. 14. What can we learn about the manual quality inspections? A. They are time-consuming and costly. B. They are not performed at a regular time. C. The inspectors often make wrong judgement. D. The shipping time is not taken into consideration. 15. What’s Jacob’s attitude to OneThird’s effort? A. Supportive. B. Doubtful. C. Negative. D. Indifferent. Music exists almost every human culture on earth. The oldest discovered musical instruments date back over 40,000 years to the Stone Age. ____16____ It originated alongside language in early human communication. Why did music become so well connected into the human experience over the long history? Evolutionary psychologists say it gave significant survival advantages to our ancestors. In prehistoric times, music promoted tighter social bonding between group members. Singing and drumming together released chemicals like dopamine and endorphins, inducing positive emotions that strengthened social connections. ____17____ This can also help to claim identity and territory (领土). Early music likely aided communication too. Rhythmic drumbeats and calls organized the actions and movements of groups during hunts or battle. Singing while working made labor less boring. Mothers may have sung primitive tunes to children as an early form of emotional communication. ____18____ Group member’s beating drums and making noise during the night signaled that they were alert (警觉的) and ready to fight surprise enemy. Young night watchmen sang to indicate they were awake. Soldiers guarding territory used instruments to send warning calls across longer distances. In all these ways, music increased survival chances in human evolution. Natural selection then embedded (嵌入) the capacity for music into our biology. Supporting this, scientists have discovered specific regions of the brain devoted to musical processing. Children have an inborn ability to detect musical patterns and different tonal pitches. ____19____ So next time you find yourself singing along to an easy tune, remember you are using an evolutionary heritage which goes through thousand years! Music is part of what makes us unique human. In the past, our Stone Age ancestors sang and drummed because it increased survival. ____20____ A. Music also strengthened defenses. B. Music can bring humans a lot of joy. C Music also helped to win the battle. D. But scientists believe music itself could be much older than that. E. We connect with music now simply because we are born to do so. F. Even patients with severe dementia (痴呆) respond actively to their favorite childhood songs. G. This allowed groups to cooperate better in hunting, children-caring and protection against outside threats. I’m a university professor at an art school. Some of her organs, bones and muscles were out of shape. No one expected her to survive. She did make it but with her strange body figure, everyone could recognize her, even from a distance. In Emily White’s hometown, there was a yearly outdoor performance in the school auditorium (大礼堂). It had been performed for so many years and actually had become one of the most important events of the Christmas season for many of the town’s people. Many people tried out each year for it, but so many were turned away. It can only include the most excellent people in the field. Emily had a beautiful singing voice. Last year she went to Mrs. Owens — her music teacher to ask to join in the performance. Without letting her sing, Mrs. Owens took a look at Amy’s body and said, “Child, you just don’t fit. Everyone would stare at you and that would make you uncomfortable. It would make them uncomfortable, too.” Without singing a single note, Emily was sent back through the door of the choral room. Hurt and upset, she decided never to try out again. But Mrs. Owens then retired. This year, there came a new music teacher, Mr. Buttler. He heard about Emily and suggested that she have a try. Emily didn’t want to be rejected again, so she hesitated a little about it. As Emily struggled, the door was pushed open and Mr. Buttler called, “Emily, you’re next.” Although kind of nervous, Emily did as Mr. Buttler told her to do. Mr. Buttler sat by the piano to keep Emily company. When Emily finished her testing performance, she thanked Mr. Buttler and knew the result would be posted on the door of the choral room the next day. Emily couldn’t sleep that night. She was suffering from the feelings that she didn’t fit and the great need to be accepted. By the next morning, her stomach was even in pain because of stress. Paragraph 1: The next day, Emily nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Finally, the day of performance came. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$ 2025年高一3月份月考英语试题 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? The young gamer, Willis Gibson, completed 157 levels before the game technically gave in. B 5. C 6. A 7. 根据第二段“He repeatedly shouted “Oh my God” as he beat the game. “I can’t feel my fingers,” Gibson said.(他在通关过程中不断大喊“哦,我的上帝”。“我的手指没有知觉了,”吉布森说)”可知,吉布森认为要打败俄罗斯方块并不容易。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Gaming experts had long considered Tetris unbeatable.(游戏专家一直认为俄罗斯方块是无敌的)”可知,在吉布森打败俄罗斯方块之前,游戏专家认为它不可能被人类打败。故选C。 【6题详解】 词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“Developers didn’t think anyone would ever make it that far and now the game has been beaten by a human being.(开发者认为没有人能够做到这一点,而现在这款游戏却被人类打败了)”可知,开发者认为没有人能够做到这一点,而现在这款游戏却被人类打败了,说明难以置信。 故选A。 D。 C Tens of millions of bees are likely being killed each day by vehicles in the western United States, a new study finds. A 9. B 10. C 11. 根据第二段中“Most studies have focused on forests and larger insects. But bee diversity (多样性) is greatest in dry, open areas, and most bees are tiny — just 2 to 25 millimeters long. (大多数研究都集中在森林和较大的昆虫上。但蜜蜂的多样性在干燥、开阔的地区是最大的,而且大多数蜜蜂都很小,只有2到25毫米长)”可知,这段主要讨论了过去这类研究的局限性,因为聚焦森林和较大的昆虫它们没有关注到蜜蜂。故选A项。 根据第三段中的“They made 29 trips around Utah in spring and summer, traveling more than 9,334 kilometers, and identified bees that were hit by cars. Every trip resulted in at least one bee death, and they found 14 different species. (他们在春季和夏季在犹他州进行了29次旅行,行程超过9334公里,并确定了被汽车撞到的蜜蜂。每次旅行至少导致一只蜜蜂死亡,他们发现了14种不同的蜜蜂)”可知,第三段列举了相关数据,说明蜜蜂被汽车撞到的情况,结合第四段中的“The researchers guessed that one car driving between Salt Lake City and Moab might kill 50 to 175 bees. Based on traffic data, that means several million bees are killed when 94,000 cars travel that route each day. Millions of cars run in Utah daily, and similar trips happen in nearby states, so the total number of bees killed each day in the region is likely in the tens of millions. 根据最后一段中“Research has shown that bees usually avoid crossing roads unless there are plants in the middle. So, creating healthy habitat along both sides of a road, but not in the middle, could help. (研究表明,蜜蜂通常避免过马路,除非中间有植物。因此,在道路两侧创造健康的栖息地,而不是在道路中间,可能会有所帮助)”可知,防止蜜蜂被杀死的一种方法是在路边种植植物。故选C项。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是第一段中“Tens of millions of bees are likely being killed each day by vehicles in the western United States, a new study finds. (一项新的研究发现,在美国西部,每天可能有数千万只蜜蜂被车辆杀死)”以及下文分析的蜜蜂被车辆杀死的数据情况可知,文章通过研究结果和具体数据说明了每天可能有大量蜜蜂因车辆撞击而死亡,并提出了减少蜜蜂死亡的建议。由此推知,文章的主要目的是介绍蜜蜂面临的危险,即车辆对蜜蜂的威胁。故选C项。 D There’re plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables available in local markets. C 13. A 14. D 15. 根据第二段“Now, the food technology startup OneThird, located in the Netherlands, is looking to change that with an infrared (红外线) scanner that can exactly predict how long fresh fruits and vegetables will last. The startup is named OneThird because one-third of food is wasted due to spoilage (变质) every year.(现在,位于荷兰的食品科技初创公司OneThird正试图改变这一现状,他们发明了一种红外扫描仪,可以准确预测新鲜水果和蔬菜的保质期。这家初创公司之所以被命名为OneThird,是因为每年有三分之一的食物因变质而被浪费。)”可知,OneThird的目标是解决由于不确定食物的保质期而造成的食物浪费。故选C。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“The startup’s founders were inspired by a UK company that uses this type of technology in the medical field and decided to see if it was applicable for food.(这家初创公司的创始人受到一家英国公司的启发,该公司在医疗领域使用这种技术,并决定看看它是否适用于食品。)” 故选A。 根据第四段“Then the food is sent to consumers without considering travel time or how long the produce will remain usable.(然后,食品被送到消费者手中,而不考虑运输时间或产品的可用性。)” 根据第二段“Now, the food technology startup OneThird, located in the Netherlands, is looking to change that with an infrared (红外线) scanner that can exactly predict how long fresh fruits and vegetables will last. The startup is named OneThird because one-third of food is wasted due to spoilage (变质) every year.(现在,位于荷兰的食品科技初创公司OneThird正试图改变这一现状,他们发明了一种红外扫描仪,可以准确预测新鲜水果和蔬菜的保质期。这家初创公司之所以被命名为OneThird,是因为每年有三分之一的食物因变质而被浪费。)”和最后一段“Global food waste has a great environmental impact; reducing global food waste cuts global greenhouse gas emissions and promotes global food security(全球食物浪费对环境有很大影响;减少全球食物浪费可以减少全球温室气体排放,促进全球粮食安全)”可知,Jacob认为减少食物浪费很重要,而OneThird的努力是为了减少食物浪费,所以Jacob支持OneThird的努力,故选A。 Music exists almost every human culture on earth. C. Music also helped to win the battle. D 17. G 18. A 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 根据前文“The oldest discovered musical instruments date back over 40,000 years to the Stone Age.(发现的最古老的乐器可以追溯到4万多年前的石器时代)”以及后文“It originated alongside language in early human communication. Why did music become so well connected into the human experience over the long history?(它起源于早期人类交流中的语言。为什么在漫长的历史中,音乐与人类的经历如此紧密地联系在一起?)”可知,前句在讲乐器,后文开始讲述音乐,所以空处应是过渡句,从乐器过渡到音乐,D项“But scientists believe music itself could be much older than that.(但科学家认为,音乐本身可能比这更古老)”符合文意,that代指上文提到的最古老的乐器,承接上文,引出下文。故选D项。 【17题详解】 根据前文“In prehistoric times, music promoted tighter social bonding between group members. Singing and drumming together released chemicals like dopamine and endorphins, inducing positive emotions that strengthened social connections.(在史前时代,音乐促进了群体成员之间更紧密的社会联系。 根据后文“Group member’s beating drums and making noise during the night signaled that they were alert (警觉的) and ready to fight surprise enemy. Young night watchmen sang to indicate they were awake. Soldiers guarding territory used instruments to send warning calls across longer distances.(小组成员在夜间敲鼓和制造噪音,表明他们是警觉的,准备打击突然的敌人。年轻的守夜人唱歌表明他们醒了。守卫领地的士兵使用仪器远距离发送警告信号)”可知,本段主要讲述了音乐在防御外敌方面的好处,所以A项“Music also strengthened defenses.(音乐也加强了防御)”符合主题,为本段中心句。故选A项。 【19题详解】 根据前文“In all these ways, music increased survival chances in human evolution. Natural selection then embedded (嵌入) the capacity for music into our biology. Supporting this, scientists have discovered specific regions of the brain devoted to musical processing. Children have an inborn ability to detect musical patterns and different tonal pitches.(在所有这些方面,音乐增加了人类进化的生存机会。 【20题详解】 设空位于段尾,为总结句,根据前文“Music is part of what makes us unique human. In the past, our Stone Age ancestors sang and drummed because it increased survival.(音乐是使我们成为独一无二的人类的一部分。 I’m a university professor at an art school. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The next day, Emily nervously glanced at the list on the door of the choral room. She was not rejected this time. Her name was posted at the top of the list. She, Emily White, was chosen to be the leading singer! She would sing alone in the performance. Emily couldn’t believe her eyes. There must be some mistake. But Mr. Buttler said to her with determined eyes, “Emily, I choose you because you should perform the part-your voice is unusual. Believe in yourself.” Greatly encouraged, Emily practiced really hard. Finally, the day of performance came. Standing in front of the line, Emily felt her throat tight and her palms sweating. When the curtain opened up, the eyes of the whole audience fell upon Emily. “Emily White!” Someone whispered. Then, along with the first note of music, Emily began to sing her heart out. Her voice was like a nightingale ringing in the auditorium. Applause! Emily felt so happy and comfortable. She was shining on the stage. Emily White, with so many birth problems in her body, was an angel! 词汇激活 行为类 ①选择:choose/select ②鼓励:encourage/inspire ③开始唱:begin to sing/start to sing 情绪类 ①坚定的:determined/unswerving ②高兴的:happy/delighted 【点睛】[高分句型1] Emily, I choose you because you should perform the part-your voice is unusual.
