专题04 阅读理解之新闻报道 Passage 1 (23-24高一下·山东淄博·期中) “A good book is easy to find.” That is the message on a sign at Hernando Guanlao’s home in the Makati area of Manila, the capital city of the Philippines.” Guanlao has transformed his home into a free public library. Visitors can borrow the books inside for free. Guanlao says he hopes his library will inspire people to read, especially the young. The 72-year-old told reporters that his library includes books that all students can enjoy —— from young children in Kindergarten to older students in grade 12. And also his library has books for readers of all interests. His home is filled with thousands of available books. He calls his library Reading Club 2000. It contains many different kinds of books, or genres. Genre is a group of artistic, musical, or literary works that share a particular style, form, or content. “There are history books, novels, children stories in my library,” Guanlao added proudly, “and there are cookbooks, science fiction, and even medicine books.” Almost everyone can find a suitable book, all for free. He started his library more than 20 years ago when he set 50 books on the walkway in front of his home. Guanlao’s collection has grown greatly over the years ——thanks to a continuous supply of books from donors. Speaking of donors, he said, “They just leave boxes of books outside my house.” He has also started donating books himself. He sends reading materials to public schools in far-away communities. Guanlao’s efforts come at a time when reading ability among students in the Philippines remains low. The Program for International Student Assessment reports that reading scores in the Philippines are among the lowest in the world. Students in the Philippines are also facing learning delays in math and science. Guanlao is firm about his goals, “My mission is to give away used and donated books to others at no cost,” he said, “and to promote education through literature.” 1. Passage 2 (23-24学年高一下·浙江省杭州期中) NatureScot, an organisation that looks after Scotland’s natural world, has agreed to release (放出) Scottish wildcats into the UK’s largest national park. About 60 wildcats have been raised at the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland’s Highland Wildlife Park at Kincraig. They will be released in June into an area of the Cairngorms National Park in the Scotish Highlands. Researchers will monitor the cats through GPS, tracking their movements as they live in their new home. Wildcats already live in the Cairngorms, but researchers say they are under threat from extinction because of habitat loss and disease. Wildcats look a bit like pet cats but they are about twice the size and have thicker fur. They have longer legs and their ears are more sticked out to the side. Wildcats were once found in England and Wales too, but they were hunted for their fur and lost a lot of their natural habitat because of human activity. They haven’t been seen in the wild outside Scotland for more than 100 years. However, another protection programme is planning to release around 40 of the animals into secret countryside locations in Cornwall, in southern England. Wildcats hunt small animals, so wildlife experts are hoping that the cats will keepdown the numbers of rabbits and mice, which damage young trees and crops such as corn, fruit and wheat. The Scottish wildcats will be released in a part of the park called Caimgorms, where experts are working to restore (恢复) woodland areas. The plan is for as many as 20 cats to be set free every year, and it is hoped that other sites in Scotland will be considered too. Dr Helen from Saving Wildcats said, “The fight to restore Scotland’s wildcat populations is just beginning.” 1. How will researchers keep an eye on the released wildcats? A. By using technology. B. By working in the park. C. By observing their new home. D. By controlling their movements. 2. Why are wildcats going to be released to the national park? A. They are being hunted by human beings. B. They need a new home due to habitat loss. C. They can catch animals damaging the environment. D. They haven’t been seen in the wild for a long time. 3. What does Dr Helen say about wildcats? A. It is difficult to restore wildcats’ habitat. B. Wildcats will begin to fight with humans. C. The number of wildcats has greatly increased. D. There is a long way to go to increase wildcat populations 4. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Wildcats in danger. B. Wildcats set free in highlands. C. Wildcats’ habitat destroyed. D. Wildcats different from pet cats. Passage 3 (23-24学年高一下·广东省江门5月联考) They thought it was going to be easy. A piece of cake. The band, Suenalo, were excited that they would present their skills to a group of troubled youth at a detention center (少管所).   They arrived at the invitation of a friend, who was an adviser at the center. He had mentioned a career day where members of the community came to speak to the teens about their jobs. Usually the speakers were bankers or lawyers, so he thought it would be interesting for the kids to meet some musicians and maybe even hear some music. “They need something cool to get their attention” was the pitch from the friend. The kids, about 40, were brought in, looking distant, some even angry. Chad Bernstein, the trombone player, started telling the career of a musician from touring to copyright to the business aspects, trying to draw their interest. However, it didn’t. Sensing that they couldn’t win, the band, a little thrown, decided to play one song. With music going, the kids seemed to respond, their heads nodding to the beat. One of them sang a lyric (歌词). The band sang it back. Then, one by one, the musicians began picking up the beat. Chad started free styling a rap, going back and forth with the kid, and in no time, other kids jumped in. Suddenly the band and the kids were creating a song from scratch and all of them were in musical heaven. For Chad, that moment inspired him to found Guitars Over Guns, an organization that pairs at-risk middle-schoolers with professional musicians. As both music teachers and life coaches, the musicians give the kids a way to find their creative voices and get through dark times. Over time, the kids have dropped their tough fronts and shared personal stories, from family tragedies to ordinary struggles at school with friends. “So far we’ve helped over 2,700 students. Our work is highly satisfying because it shows us that a music career is more than a job, it can have more impact,” says Chad Bernstein. 1. Why did the band come to the detention center? A. To get attention. B. To display skills. C. To plan their careers. D. To chat about music. 2. What can we learn about the song created on the spot? A. Its lyrics were from the kids. B. Chad owned its copyright. C. It was composed cooperatively. D. The kids picked up its beat. 3. What does Guitars Over Guns do to help at-risk teens? A. Offer guidance on life. B. Give full school instruction. C. Relate personal stories. D. Promote awareness of risks. 4. What kind of person is Chad Bernstein? A. Disciplined. B. Purposeful. C. Humorous. D. Traditional. Passage 4 (23-24学年高一下·广东省深圳期中) Primary and secondary school learners, university students, and guests were invited on Wednesday and were treated to a colorful celebration at the Confucius Institute at the University of Nairobi, to mark the beginning of the year of the dragon which officially starts on Saturday. The place featured beautiful decorations with red and gold colors and lucky symbols. Visitors got an opportunity to participate in cultural experiences including painting, papercutting and pot throwing as well as experiencing Chinese cuisines like spicy hotpot, steamed stuffed buns (包子) , Chinese hamburgers, dumplings and barbecue among others. They were also treated to heartwarming performances including face-changing, lion dance, dragon dance, drumming, Chinese opera, Chinese songs and a talent show featuring Chinese traditional clothes as well as a mixture of Chinese and Kenyan fashion. Leah Muthoni, a student at the University of Nairobi lauded the Chinese cuisines served at the event, especially noodles and dumplings. She also appreciated the decorations, drawings, pictures and performances. Similar feelings were also shared by George Mwita, another student from the University of Nairobi who greatly enjoyed the pot throwing game. In his welcoming speech, Professor Stephen Kiama, the vice headmaster of the University of Nairobi who doubles up as the Kenya director of the Confucius Institute, hoped this year will be a good year of development because the Chinese dragon horns represent power and strength, while the drums represent courage and energy. Presidential Inauguration (就职) Ceremony. Her words and performance were wonderful and were admired across the world. But what is even more wonderful is the story of how Amanda arrived at this moment and the lessons she offers other kids around the world. Amanda was raised by a single mother, Joan Wicks, in Los Angeles. There was very limited television watching in their house. Encouraged by her mother, who was a teacher, Amanda fell in love with reading and writing. She gained confidence in these areas. Her passion for poetry started when she was about 8 years old. But despite her interests and talents, she had some obstacles. Amanda has a listening processing disorder and is very sensitive to sound. She also had a speech disorder during childhood. This caused her to participate in speech treatment which helped her to turn her obstacles into gifts and strengths. As she told The Harvard Gazette in 2018, “I always saw it as a strength because since I was experiencing these obstacles in terms of my listening and speech skills, I became really good at reading and writing.” Amanda started to dream of becoming president when she was in 6th grade. As Amanda became more confident, she became more driven to transform the world for good. She went on to earn a degree at Harvard University. And then, Amanda became the world’s first Youth Poet’ Laureate (获奖者) in history! While Amanda looked calm, cool, and collected at the inauguration, she admits she is always nervous, like many of us, about public speaking. Passage 6 (23-24高一下·广东广州·5月月考) Many economists predict 2024 will be the time shoppers tighten their belts. That doesn’t mean people will stop spending, say retail (零售) analysts. But it will change what they choose to buy. With a slowing job market global consumers are likely to move away from high-priced purchases and focus instead on smaller, less expensive treats. The economic uncertainty means that consumers are becoming more discriminating about their purchases, says Ethan Chernofsky, senior vice president of marketing at intelligence platform Placer.ai. “There are the things we decide are necessary, and then there’s another category of things that aren’t necessary but that we consider affordable luxuries, ” he says. This desire for these “affordable luxuries” is common in difficult economic times. Some economists refer to the phenomenon as the “lipstick index”. When economic times are tough people tend to, people tend to choose affordable splurges (挥霍)-like cosmetics (化妆品) to treat themselves. Commentators speculate that these purchases are driven by their relative affordability and the consumer’s desire for escapism. Sales of lipsticks, perfumes and other cosmetics are indeed up. Over six months. We asked consumers in 23 countries if they were making purchases to treat themselves. We created a database with nearly 150,000 consumer descriptions of their splurge purchases, including what they bought, how much they spent and why they bought it. Efforts revealed that consumers are treating themselves much more than expected. Analysts at Deloitte say consumers will spend on little luxuries like specialty coffees and snacks as well. Additionally, stressed-out shoppers are prioritizing small splurge purchases for wellness and personal care. As retailers see shoppers turning to little luxuries, many companies orient their marketing efforts around “occasions” and “life events”. The “splurge occasion” could open up the opportunity for retailers to capture new sales from consumers buying to treat themselves. Target has staked a flag in what they refer to as “affordable joy”. For example, focusing marketing efforts on a scarf’s fashionable attributes may be tempting. Still, under  US$100, it may be more effective to lure customers by also tying in the practicality of the purchase. Ethan says not every shopper will shift their spending to little luxuries-but even those who are still longing for the “must-haves” of social media will also look to get a deal. They want the feeling of purchasing lower-priced affordable treats. To get these goods, shoppers are likely to tap into the re-sale market for designer items at a more reasonable price. They want things that make them feel good about themselves-they just want to do it without breaking the bank. 1. What can affordable luxuries be? A. Moderate-priced designer items. B. High-end technological products. C. Reasonably-cost daily necessities. D. Economically-preferred large deals. 2. What is paragraph 4 mainly about? A. The competition stores face. B. The strategies retailers adopt. C. The products consumers buy. D. The pleasure businesses offer. 3. What do most shoppers seek according to Ethan? A. World-luxry brands. B. Second-hand bargains. C. Social-media purchases. D. Budget-friendly pleasures. 4. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Lipstick Index: Where Does It Lead Us B. Must-have Treats: A Future Spending Trend C. Little Luxuries: A Driving Force Behind Consumption D. Affordable Joy: Will We Fall Into The Trap Passage 7 (23-24高一下·湖北武汉·期中) Last week, an owl named Flaco made a daring escape from his cage at New York’s Central Park Zoo when it was broken. This set off a bird-hunt led by local police and park rangers. The zoo officials were concerned about Flaco’s ability to survive in the wild, as he had been living in the cage for 13 years. They attempted to lure (引诱) him back with his favorite treats. However, Flaco proved to be too clever to be caught so easily. He was spotted soaring above 5th Avenue and the skating rink in Central Park. His escape attracted the attention of many city dwellers and many New Yorkers flocked to the park to catch a glimpse of Flaco, taking photos with excitement. But this week, zoo officials announced they accepted that Flaco remained in Central Park because they observed him bringing up bones and fur from the park’s community of rats. “He has been very successful at hunting and consuming lots of rats in the park.” zoo officials told the New York Post. “It’s truly remarkable. He’s hunting independently and his flying has improved. It appears that Flaco is quite content with his new life and enjoys his freedom outdoors.” This incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced by wildlife in urban environments. Owls, being nocturnal creatures, are active searching for food at night and rest during the day. Yet some residents who are unaware of proper bird-watching behavior reportedly see Flaco sleep in a tree during the day, and begin to make loud noise and shout at him. It interrupts his daytime naps. Flaco can’t try to say “shh, shh” with the traditional New York reply. After all, a bird can’t give someone the bird. 1. Why were the zoo officials worried about Flaco after his escape? A. He was hunted by local people. B. He might attack human beings. C. He might be unable to exist in the wild. D. He was injured and needed medical attention. 2. What is the main concern regarding Flaco’s well-being in the passage? A. The bad effect of local residents on Flaco’s sleep. B. The potential threat from other animals in the park. C. The difficulty Flaco faces in finding food in the city. D. The risk of Flaco getting injured while flying in the city. Passage 8 (23-24高二下·山东济宁·期中) Artificial intelligence (AI) is showing promise in earthquake prediction, challenging the long-held belief that it is impossible. Researchers at the University of Texas, Austin, have developed an AI algorithm (算法) that correctly predicted 70% of earthquakes a week in advance during a trial in China and provided accurate calculations for the predicted earthquakes. The research team believes their method succeeded because they stuck with a relatively simple machine learning approach. The AI was provided with a set of statistical (统计的) features based on the team’s knowledge of earthquake physics, and then instructed to train itself using a five-year database of earthquake recordings. Once trained, the AI provided its prediction of earthquake by listening for signs of incoming earthquakes within the background rumblings (隆隆声) in the Earth. This work is clearly a milestone in research for AI-driven earthquake prediction. “You don’t see earthquakes coming,” explains Alexandros Savvaidis, a senior research scientist who leads the Texas Seismological Network Program (TexNet). “It’s a matter of milliseconds (毫秒), and the only thing you can control is how prepared you are. Even with the 70% accuracy, that’s a huge result and could help minimize economic and human losses and has the potential to remarkably improve earthquake preparation worldwide.” While it is unknown whether the same approach will work at other places, the researchers are confident that their AI algorithm could produce more accurate predictions if used in areas with reliable earthquake tracking networks. So, their next step is to test artificial intelligence in different places in Texas, since UT’s Bureau TexNet has 300 earthquake stations there and over six years’ worth of continuous records, making it ideal for these purposes. Eventually, the authors hope to combine the system with physics-based models. This strategy could prove especially important where data is poor or lacking. “That may be a long way off, but many advances such as this one, taken together, are what moves science forward,” concludes Scott Tinker, the bureau’s director. 1. How does the AI predict earthquakes? A. By analyzing background sounds in the Earth. B. By identifying data from remote sensing satellite. C. By modeling data based on earthquake recordings. D. By monitoring changes in the Earth’s magnetic field. 2. What does Alexandros Savvaidis intend to show in paragraph 3? A. The ways to reduce losses in earthquakes. B. The accuracy of AI in earthquake prediction. C. The limitation of AI algorithms in earthquake prediction. D. The significance of developing AI-driven earthquake prediction. 3. What does the follow-up research focus on? A. Conducting tests in different locations. B. Building more earthquake stations in Texas. C. Improving the quality of earthquake tracking networks. D. Applying AI approach to other fields besides earthquake. 4. Which words can best describe the earthquake-predicting technology? A. Precise but outdated. B. Effective but costly. C. Advanced and promising. D. Potential and economical. Passage 9 (23-24高一下·山东菏泽·期中) You might have heard the saying “the silence was deafening”, but did you know that you might actually be able to hear silence, which is supposed to be the absence of sound? Now researchers think that we might actually be able to hear silence. These findings now finally deal with the question of whether we can hear silence, which they say is something that has baffled the philosophers for years. The study’s lead author Rui Zhe Goh, a graduate psychology and philosophy student, said, “We typically think of our sense of hearing as being concerned with sounds. But surprisingly, what our work suggests is that nothing is also something we can hear.” The team used adapted versions of auditory illusions (听觉错觉) to create new versions in which the original sound was replaced by moments of silence. What it did say was that the silence-based illusions and sound-based illusions produced the same effect. Chaz Firestone, an assistant professor of psychological and brain sciences, said, “Philosophers have long debated whether silence is something we can literally perceive (感知), but there hasn’t been a scientific study aimed directly at this question. Our approach was to ask whether our brains treat silence the way they treat sounds.” Through a series of experiments using the approach, they found we could get the same illusions with silence as we got with sounds, which proved that we actually heard silence. Ian Phillips, a co-author of the study, said, “There is at least one thing that we hear that isn’t a sound, and that is the silence that happens when sounds go away. The kinds of illusions and effects seem to be unique to the auditory processing of a sound, and we also get them with silence, suggesting we really do hear absences of sound too.” There will be more research to be done, not just with sound, but with visual disappearances too. The scientists claim that their work now might provide a new way to study the perception of absence. 1. What does the underlined word “baffled” probably mean in paragraph 1? A. Inspired. B. Puzzled. C. Scared. D. Encouraged. 2. What can be concluded from Rui Zhe Goh’s study? A. Silence can be heard. B. Silence is based on sound. C. Sound can be easier to hear. D. Hearing is related to sound. 3. What do the scientists think of their work? A. Unique. B. Difficult. C. Significant. D. Repetitive. Passage 10 (23-24高一下·山东菏泽·期中) Unless you’ve been faithfully bringing reusable shopping bags to the store, you probably grab the plastic bags waiting for customers at the checkout. You’re not alone. About 100 billion plastic bags are used in the U. S. each year. Unfortunately, single-use plastic bags have serious consequences once our trip to the store is over. Less than 10% of plastic bags used in the U. S. are recycled, leaving the rest to end up in landfills (垃圾填埋场), and polluting soil, oceans and other natural habitats. To fight pollution and other environmental problems, major companies are taking steps to get rid of the use of plastic shopping bags. If you’re a frequent customer at Walmart, don’t be surprised if you notice the plastic bags disappearing over the next few months. Last summer, Walmart announced its goal to be a zero-waste company — meaning no more plastic bags. But Walmart has announced its Beyond the Bag, an initiative (倡议) working to explore reusable options and “reimagine” the plastic bag. Target and CVS are also on board as founding partners of Beyond the Bag, and so far, the three brands have invested $15 million to come up with a brand-new bag design. The initiative also started the Beyond the Bag challenge, giving innovators (创新者) a chance to share their ideas. The challenge ran throughout the summer of 2020, and nine winners from over 450 submissions were selected. From a station supplying reusable bag in-store to a new and improved paper bag, the winning designs cover a lot of bases. Each product now has the chance to be tested with funding from the initiative. While a final replacement for plastic bags at Walmart has yet to be decided, there’s a more sustainable future on the horizon. And if you want to start reducing your use of plastic bags right now, check out our list of reusable bags to bring on your next shopping trip. 1. What does the author mean by saying “You’re not alone” in the first paragraph? A. Reusable shopping bags are becoming more popular. B. Customers need to wait for long at the checkout. C. Some people are waiting in the line with you. D. Many people use plastic bags when shopping. 2. What does the author want to tell us in Paragraph 2? A. Single-use plastic bags cause severe environmental problems. B. Supermarkets should stop providing single-use plastic bags. C. Single-use plastic bags should be more widely recycled. D. More landfills should be built to deal with plastic bags. 3. Why does Walmart want to start Beyond the Bag? A. To attract more customers. B. To provide more plastic bags. C. To set a good example to Target and CVS. D. To make shopping more environmentally friendly. 4. What is the main idea of the text? A. People pay more attention to environmental protection. B. Walmart is getting rid of single-use plastic bags. C. Reusable paper bags are becoming more popular. D. Free plastic bags have become a thing of the past. Passage 11 (23-24高一下·山东济南·期中) The decision by teachers at a Quebec school to replace Mother’s Day events with a celebration of parents has led to discussions all the way to the provincial legislature (立法机关), but supporters say such moves can benefit children. The school service centre said the teachers made the decision —which was announced to parents by email — because several students in their classes don’t have a mother or father. Bernard Drainville, Quebec Education Minister, said he doesn’t want to see Mother’s Day and Father’s Day disappear from Quebec schools but understands that sometimes, teachers have to adapt to the realities of their students. “Honestly, I can’t believe I’m in front of you today to stress the importance of Mother’s Day and the importance of Father’s Day,” he told reporters in Quebec City Wednesday. “The idea of replacing Mother’s Day or Father’s Day with Parent’s Day, I don’t think that is a good idea.” Manon Tombi, a Montreal mother of two who lost her husband to cancer in 2020, said she sees the good wishes behind the school’s move. Tombi, 32, said it can be awkward for workers at her five-year-old son’s daycare when it comes time for children to make Father’s Day crafts. “Making the celebration about parents rather than the mother or father is more inclusive,” she said. “It avoids the discomfort for those children who don t have a father or a mother.” Rachel Langevin, a professor at McGill University who studies childhood trauma (精神创伤), said for some children, a classroom celebration of Mother’s Day could be difficult. “In the context of a child that recently lost a parent, it could be re-traumatizing, to have a celebration of Mother’s Day for a child that just lost their mother,” she said. “Over time, they may well be able to take part in a Mother’s Day celebration again, as they process through their own trauma.” 1. Why did teachers decide to change a mothers’ to a parents’ celebration? A. To build a more inclusive environment for children. B. To follow a new provincial education policy. C. To teach children to respect their parents. D. To greatly satisfy parents’ requests. 2. What was Bernard Drainville’s attitude to celebrating Parent’s Day? A. Supportive. B. Disapproving. C. Doubtful. D. Indifferent. 3. What did Manon Tombi think of celebrating Parent’s Day? A. It would make children without a mother or father less uncomfortable. B. It would be more popular than celebrating other traditional holidays. C. It would be less commercialized than celebrating Mother’s Day. D. It would be more in line with her own preferences. 4. Why might a classroom celebration of Mother’s Day be difficult? A. It leads to lasting trauma and sadness. B. Children struggle with making Mother’s Day crafts. C. Children find it too emotional to celebrate their mothers. D. It can be re-traumatizing for children who recently lost a parent. Passage 12 (23-24高一下·福建福州·期中) Artificial intelligence (AI) has hit the headlines in recent months, particularly since the launch of ChatGPT in November. The chatbot can not only answer a broad range of questions, but also create original poems and stories. Japan’s first fully AI-created comic, Cyberpunk: Peach John, was released on March 9 by Shinchosha, a major publishing house. The comic is based on the futuristic imagination of the author, whose pen name is Rootport. It describes how the Japanese folklore (民间传说) hero Momotaro, who is said to have been born from a giant peach, lives in a dystopian (反乌托邦的) future. All the fancy futuristic objects and creatures in the book, however, were designed and created by Midjourney along with other popular online image-generation AI tools such as Stable Diffusion and DALL-E 2. Unlike traditional comic volumes which are usually black-and-white and short in length, Cyberpunk: Peach John comes in full color and spans more than 100 pages. A work of this length would normally take over a year to complete by even authors who are familiar with comic creation. However, with AI creation, it took the writer a surprisingly short period — only six weeks — to finish the whole work. Despite gaining widespread attention as the first fully AI-drawn comic in Japan, the work has also raised some questions and concern as well. According to Gulf News and CNN, some people are worried that AI technology will threaten jobs and copyright ownership in the nation’s thriving comic book industry, as well as creativity and artistic value. One Twitter user described the project as “an absolute insult (侮辱) to comic and comic artists everywhere.” Another wrote: “Weird to publish a comic by AI when your country has some of the most talented artists in existence.” But Rootport has insisted that his comic book should be considered a work of art. “AI cannot yet create a perfect work on its own. Human assistance is essential,” he said. 1. Who is the writer of the comic, Cyberpunk: Peach John? A. Shinchosha. B. Rootport. C. Momotaro. D. Midjourney. 2. Which of the following is true? A. The comic book is colorful and extremely time-saving in creation. B. AI technology will definitely threaten jobs and copyright ownership. C. Japan has the most talented comic artists in the world. D. The comic book is considered a work of art. 3. What’s people’s attitude towards the AI-drawn comic in the text? A. Positive. B. Negative. C. Unconcerned. D. Neutral. 4. What is the main idea of the text? A. AI-drawn comics have advantages over traditional ones. B. AI-drawn comics have become a new trend in Japan. C. Japan released its first fully AI-created comic. D. People have different opinions on the first AI-created comic. Passage 13 (23-24高一下·福建莆田·期中) Jennifer Destefano answered a call from a number she did not recognize. “Mom, I messed up,” her daughter’s voice told her, crying. “These bad men have me.” A man went on to demand money, or he would drug her daughter and leave her in Mexico. But while she kept him on the phone, friends managed to reach her daughter, only to discover that she was, in fact, free and well on a skiing trip in Arizona. The voice used on the phone was a fake. Voice cloning’s influences will be huge. For several years, customers have been able to identify themselves over the phone to their bank and other companies using their voice. Not even a gifted mimic (巧于模仿的人) could fool the detection system. But the arrival of cloning will force adaptation in order to prevent cheating. Creative industries could face the impact too. Voice actors’ skills, trained over a lifetime, can be copied in seconds. But some actors may, in fact, find cloning congenial. Val Kilmer, who has lost much of his voice to throat cancer, was delighted to have his voice restored for “Top Gun: Maverick”. Another industry that will have to come to cope with the rise of clones is journalism. Now who will trust a story based on an audio clip (片段)? Slightly easier to manage might be the false positives: recordings claiming to be someone but which are fakes. The opposite problem — the false negatives — will appear when public figures deny real recordings. Proving that a clip is genuine is bard, perhaps even impossible. Journalists will need to show how they obtained and stored audio files. The term “fake news” had existed long before voice cloning. Now, ever more people caught in a crime are likely to defend themselves. “It wasn’t me.” And many people will have even more reason to believe them. 1. What does Jennifer Destefano’s experience suggest? A. The high frequency of fake news. B. The rising crime rate in Mexico. C. The danger of voice-cloning technology. D. The value of bravery in an emergency. 2. What does the underlined word “congenial” in Paragraph 3 probably mean? A. Illegal. B. Embarrassing. C. Striking. D. Agreeable. 3. Which of the following belongs to the false negatives? A. Late Beetles’ songs have been restored by voice cloning. B. A pop star claims a real recording untrue. C. Journalists prove their reports with audio clips. D. The police identify a criminal through voice. 4. What is the most suitable title for the text? A. Voice cloning is increasingly used in journalism B. Voice cloning is challenging our traditional ideas C. Voice cloning is impacting different aspects of our life D. Voice cloning is re-establishing life styles for the better Passage 14 (23-24高一下·福建莆田·期中) Since childhood, London-based artist Josh Gluckstein has been fascinated by the incredible diversity of our planet’s wildlife and inspired to make sculptures of animals from found materials. He often uses abandoned or recycled materials like clothing from junk shops or wood from old furniture. An important aspect of his practice is concern for the environment. “I have traveled through Asia, Latin America and East Africa, and have been fortunate enough to have some incredible wildlife encounters,” he says. “However, on my travels, even in the most remote locations, I was shocked by the huge amounts of plastic waste.” Mach of the garbage that washes up on shorelines around the world is due to an unregulated (未受监管的) system in which richer countries export waste to developing countries because it is often cheaper than developing better infrastructures (基础设施) to handle it. Many of the thousands of shipping containers exported each year are often dumped illegally. “I remember going to the Galapagos Islands and visiting a beach famous for a large population of sea lions. It was indeed incredible to see them in the wild, but on every inch of sand not covered by sea lions, there were plastic bottles and cans. It was a heartbreaking sight. I knew I wanted to create artworks that didn’t create waste or harm our planet,” Gluckstein says. Gluckstein hopes his works will raise people’s awareness about the importance of protecting endangered species. His new series called “Gold” focuses on illegally hunted animals by applying gold leaves to their bodies. He plans to donate some of the sales of his sculptures to the world Wide Fund for Nature. 1. What do Gluckstein’s sculptures focus on? A. Fashion. B. Animals. C. Sports. D. Travel. 2. What does the underlined word “dumped” in paragraph 2 probably mean? A. Poured, B. Protected. C. Sold. D. Used. 3. What does Gluckstein mainly want to say in paragraph 3? A. Where he has toured. B. How sad he was. C. How he found sea lions. D. Why he created eco-friendly sculptures. 4. What does Gluckstein expect of his works? A. They can bring him financial benefits. B. They can make him famous as an artist. C. They can help protect endangered animals. D. They can improve people’s ability to appreciate art. Passage 15 (23-24高一下·福建厦门·期中) In February of 2022, Walter Orthmann was officially included into the Guinness Book of Records for having the longest career in the same company. On April 19, he turned 100, but the loyal (忠诚的) employee doesn’t plan to retire from the only company he has ever worked for. Walter began working for Industrias Renaux S.A. , a textile company in Brusque, when he was only 15 years old. He began as an assistant in the shipping department, but over the years, he was raised to the sales manager. During his 84-year-long career, Walter went on sales trips all over the world. “You have to like to work. I started to work with that willingness and fighting spirit,” Walter Orthmann said, when asked what kept him going for over eight decades. “You can’t just do any job to say that you are working. That doesn’t work. You’re not going to be able to stand it.” Recalling his beginnings with his company, Orthmann said that there were no computers, phones weren’t used at the company, and texts had to be typed on a typewriter and mailed. There was no public lighting, the streets were just dirt, which became muddy when it rained. There was no running water, and each house had its own well. Everything is much easier today, Orthmann admits. All you need is a mobile phone and an internet connection, and you can do business from anywhere in the world. It’s thanks to technology that he is able to continue working, as he no longer travels like he used to. Asked what advice he would give people dreaming of staying active and working late into their lives, Orthmann told Brazilian news site Globo: “Don’t be angry, do everything laughing. Just do what you like to do. Don’t have enemies. Apologize. Live calmly. Life is just a passage here on Earth, enjoy it and do what you want.” 1. What made Orthmann get the Guinness record? A. His great contribution to Guinness. B. His career time in one company. C. His sales trips around the world. D. His influence in business. 2. What do we know about Orthmann? A. He always recalls the past. B. He is tired of sales trips. C. He keeps up with the times. D. He started to work in the 1940s. 3. Which words can best describe Orthmann? A. Positive and philosophical. B. Moody and outspoken. C. Ambitious and stubborn. D. Hospitable and considerate. 4. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. A Forever Dream-Chaser B. The World’s Most Loyal Employee C. The platform was developed jointly by the Dunhuang Academy and the Chinese tech firm Tencent. It uses gaming technologies to show the historical scenes of the Library Cave in the digital world. The Library Cave in Mogao Grottoes was discovered in 1900, with more than 60,000 cultural relics dating from the 4th century to the 11th century unearthed. It was one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the 20th century. On the platform, visitors can role-play and “time travel” to ancient dynasties and talk with eight historical figures: The public can enter the platform through the Digital Dunhuang website and its WeChat mini program. In the digital age, the model of “culture+ technology” has been introduced to facilitate the development of Chinese culture. The digitalization rate of China’s precious cultural relics is now over 70 percent, according to the 2022 China Digital Collection Industry Research Report released by iResearch. Institutions such as the Palace Museum have also started online digital services of their own. Artificial intelligence (AI) technology allows the public to view the interior of the buildings through the Palace Museum’s WeChat mini program. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism has also encouraged the development and transformation of cultural intellectual property (知识产权) by digital means. China Central Television has created a series of digital collections with different Dunhuang themes, such as the Dunhuang divine deer (神鹿) Youyou. China’s latest advances in the development of cultural intellectual property. Passage 17 (23-24高一下·广东广州·期中) Discoveries at the famous Sanxingdui ruins in Southwest China show that the region’s ancient Shu Kingdom Civilization shared similarities with the Maya. The Sanxingdui ruins, located in the city of Guanghan, about 60 kilometers from Chengdu, belonged to the Shu Kingdom that existed at least 4,800 years ago and lasted more than 2,000 years, while the Mayan civilization built its city states around 200 AD. The bronze-made remains of trees unearthed at the ruins of the Shu Kingdom resemble the sacred ceiba tree, which symbolied the union of heaven, earth and the underworld In the Mayan civilization. “They are very important similarities,” says Santos, a Mexican archaeologist, stressing that “the representations of tees in both cultures provide a symbolism that is very similar”. One notable feature of the recent discoveries at Sanxingdui was the cross-subject work and technology applied by teams of Chinese archaeologists, which allowed the unearthing of artifacts as fragile as silk remains, which other types of less careful digging methods would not have been able to manage. Cooperation between Chinese and Mexican archaeologists could benefit projects in the Maya world, where the rainy climate and humidity are problematic for the conservation of ruins. “Every time our cultural knowledge increases, regardless of whether we speak one language or another, what it shows us is that we continue to be sister cultures and, therefore, the exchange of such knowledge is fundamental,” says Santos. 1. What is a similarity between the Shu Kingdom and Maya civilization? A. Their starting time. B. Their historical origins. C. Their cultural symbols. D. Their ceremony traditions. 2. What is a common challenge for the conservation of both ruins? A. Damp weather. B. Positioning of ruins. C. High latitude. D. Language barriers. 3. What is the focus of Santos quote in the last paragraph? A. The future of the China-Mexico cooperation. B. The benefits of speaking a different language. C. The importance of the exchange of cultural knowledge. D. The increasing sisterhood in culture between China and Mexico. 4. Where is this text most likely from? A. A historical novel. B. A newspaper. C. A research review. D. A guidebook. Passage 18 (23-24高一下·浙江·期中) AI-generated content has recently won big in the literary world. Japanese author Rie Kudan won one of Japan’s most famous literary awards, the Akutagawa Prize, with the help of ChatGPT in The Tokyo Tower of Sympathy. The book is set in future Japan, where Al has become an important part of people’s lives. The story centers around an architect who creates a comfortable prison but struggles with a society that she sees as being overly sympathetic to criminals. Kudan admitted at a news conference that “around 5 percent of the book’s text was taken directly from generative AI,” reported kyodo News. She added that there is a scene in the book where an AI chatbot answers the main character’s questions and she used AI-generated text in the responses given by AI in the story. The word-for-word content generated by Al was applauded by committee members as “practically flawless”, said CNN. This is not the first time that AI-related works have won prizes. In October 2023, The Land of Machine Memories was awarded second prize at China’s fifth youth popular science and science fiction competition. The fiction was fully created by AI with the prompts (提示) given by Shen Yang, a professor at Tsinghua University. Surprisingly, just one judge among the six of the competition realized that what they were reading was the product of a machine. So will literature in the future be all about Al? Debates are still ongoing on the matter. Japanese literary critic Akira Okawada told Tyodo News that “it is difficult for AI to create work that addresses ethical themes in depth”. However, Chinese writer Luo Ping holds the positive view. “Improvements in technology will not cause human laziness in creating, but rather will only make them involved in more heated competition. With the help of technology, the starting point of human thinking will only grow higher,” Luo told Hongxing News. “I think this is only the beginning for AI in creating literature,” Fu Changyi, a member of Jiangsu Popular Science Writers Association, told online news Guancha. “We will wait and see how the future goes,” he added. 1. What is the main purpose of the first paragraph? A. To lead in the topic of the text. B. To promote an AI-generated book. C. To introduce a famous Japanese writer. D. To show the advancement of ChatGPT. 2. What do we know about the book The Tokyo Tower of Sympathy? A. It was fully created by AI. B. It is the first AI-created book winning an award. C. Six judges recognized that it was produced by AI. D. The AI-created content in the book was highly spoken of. 3. What can we infer from Luo Ping’s words? A. AI will bring human thinking to a higher level. B. Human authors will be replaced by AI in the future. C. Human will lose the enthusiasm to create because of AI. D. AI doesn’t have the capability to deal with ethical issues. 4. What might be the overall tone of the passage towards AI in literature? A. Concerned. B. Negative. C. Optimistic. D. Indifferent. Passage 19 (23-24高一下·浙江宁波·期中) In 2009, when Qatar (卡塔尔) bid to host the 2022 Football World Cup, it promised a carbon-neutral (碳中和) event. Even back then, the prospect of neutralizing the carbon-dioxide emissions (排放) generated by hosting hundreds of thousands of fans in newly constructed stadiums, in a desert state, seemed fanciful. So it is proving. In their greenhouse-gas accounting report, published last year, FIFA (国际足联) and the Qatari organizers estimated that the World Cup would generate 3.6 million tons of CO2 emissions. Estimating emissions for big sporting events is a relatively new practice and methods can vary, but that figure is higher than any recent World Cup or Olympics. It is also likely to be a significant underestimate. A report in May 2022 by Carbon Market Watch (CMW), a climate watchdog (监督者), found that the official forecast failed to account accurately for the emissions generated from stadiums. FIFA, which insists its method is “best in practice”, reckons that the majority of the emissions (52%) will come from fans and players travelling to Qatar, while less than 25% are from stadium construction. That is because organizers expect these stadiums to be used for years after the World Cup, spreading their carbon footprint way into the future. CMW believes such an excuse is far from reasonable. Before the World Cup, Qataris were able to get by with only one stadium, it points out. Consequently, it estimates that the emissions from stadium construction for the World Cup are undercounted by a factor of eight. It puts the real figure at 5 million tons. Though it amounts to less than 0.02% of the world’s annual emissions, sports teams and organizations should have set a positive example in this. To remove the doubt from outside, Qatar has established the Global Carbon Council (GCC), a dedicated environmental agency. Beyond adjusting for World Cup emissions, the GCC will promote a path to “a low-carbon future”, a great step for a country with the world’s highest emissions per person. Yet the agency is still at its early stage. Only six projects, saving less than 600,000 tons, have been approved so far. 1. What is the main problem Qatar and FIFA are faced with at present? A. The 2022 World Cup isn’t as successful as it should be. B. They may fail to keep the promise to hold a green event. C. The figure they published is higher than that of other events D. They are unfamiliar with the new practice of the World Cup. 2. How does Qatar and FIFA cut down the carbon footprint of the World Cup? A. By insisting on its way of environmental protection. B. By promising to use the new stadiums for more years. C. By blaming the greenhouse-gas emissions on travelers. D. By cooperating with Carbon Market Watch for instructions. 3. Why does the CMW refuse to accept the explanation given by Qatar and FIFA? A. 5 million tons accounts for a little of the annual emissions. B. The stadium construction for the World Cup sets a bad example. C. The method they employed in estimating the emissions is unscientific. D. There will be more stadiums than Qatar actually needs after the World Cup. 4. What can be learned from the last paragraph? A. The GCC is an agency specially established for the World Cup B. The Qataris attach great importance to environmental protection. C. The Qataris need to make more efforts to hold a carbon-neutral event. D. The GCC has achieved a lot in cutting down greenhouse-gas emissions. Passage 20 (23-24高一下·浙江杭州·期中) Hangzhou, China—a stunning opening ceremony laden with Hangzhou characteristics amazed the world on Saturday, as President Xi Jinping declared the 19th Asian Games open. With the city’s profound history, culture and its modern image presented in an eye-catching and high-tech fashion, the opening show helped to express the host’s warm hospitality and its wish to unite the world through sports. Following an opening performance depicting the autumn equinox (秋分), one of China’s 24 solar terms that celebrates the harvest season, over 50,000 spectators burst into cheers as Xi announced the opening of the Hangzhou Games, making the Zhejiang provincial capital the third Chinese city to host the continental sporting gala, following Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010. Wang Hao, president of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou Organizing Committee, said Hangzhou is honored to play host to such a grand event, which started on September 23rd. Raja Randhir Singh, the acting president of the Olympic Council of Asia, showed appreciation for the Chinese host’s meticulous (细心的) organization in his speech. “You have done a fantastic job in preparing for the Asian Games. The one-year postponement due to the pandemic was unprecedented in OCA history, but your diligence and determination will bear fruit over the next 16 days and you will be rewarded with the most magnificent and successful Asian Games ever,” said Singh. Supported by new technologies, the Hangzhou ceremony boasted many historic firsts. For the first time in China, organizers switched from a traditional fireworks show to a virtual display, projected (放映) onto a giant curtain screen the size of nine IMAX screens. To adhere to the principle of delivering the greenest possible Games, zero-emission methanol was used to fuel all of the torches and the main cauldron. For the finale, hundreds of millions of virtual sparks, each representing a participant of the online torch relay, formed the shape of a human torchbearer, who ran into the stadium to light the main cauldron together with the physical relay’s final bearer — Zhejiang native and Olympic champion swimmer, Wang Shun. 1. Why was the autumn equinox depicted at the beginning of the Hangzhou Asian Games Opening Ceremony? A. Because Hangzhou wants to show its warm hospitality. B. Because Hangzhou wishes to unite the world through sports. C. Because Hangzhou highlights the history of China. D. Because Hangzhou wishes participants a good harvest in the game. 2. What is true about the Hangzhou Asian Games according to the second and third paragraphs? A. It is the fourth time that China has hosted the Asian Games. B. The Asian Games was supposed to be held in 2022. C. Wang Hao sang high praise for the organization of the game. D. Raja Randhir Singh was responsible for the organization of the game. 3. 【答案】1. A 2. C 3. D 4. B. Affordable Joy: Will We Fall Into The Trap 【答案】1. A 2. B 3. D 4. With a slowing job market global consumers are likely to move away from high-priced purchases and focus instead on smaller, less expensive treats.(许多经济学家预测,2024年将是购物者勒紧腰带的时候。 Passage 7 (23-24高一下·湖北武汉·期中) Last week, an owl named Flaco made a daring escape from his cage at New York’s Central Park Zoo when it was broken. 2. What can we infer about Flaco from the third paragraph? A. He has adapted to the wild. B. He still faces great challenges. C. He dislikes the rats in the park. D. He has found his previous home. 3. What does the underlined word “nocturnal” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Scary-looking. B. Shy and quiet. C. Sleepy and lazy. D. Active at night. 4. 【答案】1. C 2. A 3. D 4. 【答案】1. A 2. D 3. A 4. 故选A。 4. 推理判断题。根据文章第一段“Artificial intelligence (AI) is showing promise in earthquake prediction, challenging the long-held belief that it is impossible. Researchers at the University of Texas, Austin, have developed an Al algorithm (算法) that correctly predicted 70% of earthquakes a week in advance during a test in China and provided accurate strength calculations for the predicted earthquakes. 可知,地震预测技术有发展前景;再根据文章第三段“This work is clearly a milestone in research for AI-driven earthquake prediction. “You don’t see earthquakes coming,” explains Alexandros Savvaidis, a senior research scientist who leads the Texas Seismological Network Program (TexNet). “It’s a matter of milliseconds, and the only thing you can control is how prepared you are. Even with the 70% accuracy (精确度), that’s a huge result and could help decrease economic and human losses and has the potential to remarkably improve earthquake preparation worldwide.”(这项工作显然是人工智能驱动的地震预测研究的一个里程碑。 Passage 9 (23-24高一下·山东菏泽·期中) You might have heard the saying “the silence was deafening”, but did you know that you might actually be able to hear silence, which is supposed to be the absence of sound? 3. How did Chaz Firestone do the research? A. By asking questions. B. By raising assumptions. C. By conducting experiments. D. By turning to the former study. 4. What do the scientists think of their work? A. Unique. B. Difficult. C. Significant. D. Repetitive. 【答案】1. B 2. A 3. C 4. C 【导语】本文是一篇科学报道。文章主要报道了一项关于我们是否能听到沉默的科学研究,并引用了研究团队的主要成员的观点和发现。 1. 词句猜测题。根据划线单词上一句“These findings now finally deal with the question of whether we can hear silence(这些发现终于解决了我们是否能听到沉默的问题)”中的“finally”可推测,这个问题“困扰”哲学家多年。选项A“Inspired (启发)”;选项B“Puzzled (困惑)”;选项C“Scared (使害怕)”;选项D“Encouraged (鼓励)”。故选B。 2. 推理判断题。根据文章第二段“The study’s lead author Rui Zhe Goh, a graduate psychology and philosophy student, said, “We typically think of our sense of hearing as being concerned with sounds. But surprisingly, what our work suggests is that nothing is also something we can hear.” 故选A。 3. 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“Through a series of experiments using the approach, they found we could get the same illusions with silence as we got with sounds, which proved that we actually heard silence.(通过一系列使用这种方法的实验,他们发现我们可以用沉默得到与声音相同的错觉,这证明了我们实际上听到了沉默。)”可知,Chaz Firestone团队是通过一系列实验得出了结论,证明了我们可以听到沉默。因此,Chaz Firestone是通过进行实验来进行这项研究的。故选C。 4. 推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“The scientists claim that their work now might provide a new way to study the perception of absence.(科学家们声称,他们现在的工作可能为研究缺失的感知提供了新的方法。)”可知,科学家们认为这项工作是重要的,因为它可能为研究缺失的感知提供新的方法。因此,他们对工作的看法是“重要的”。故选C。 Passage 10 (23-24高一下·山东菏泽·期中) Unless you’ve been faithfully bringing reusable shopping bags to the store, you probably grab the plastic bags waiting for customers at the checkout. 【答案】1. D 2. A 3. D 4. If you’re a frequent customer at Walmart, don’t be surprised if you notice the plastic bags disappearing over the next few months.(为了对抗污染和其他环境问题,大公司正在采取措施摆脱塑料购物袋的使用。 B“Walmart is getting rid of single-use plastic bags.(沃尔玛正在淘汰一次性塑料袋。)”贴合文章主旨。故选B项。 Passage 11 (23-24高一下·山东济南·期中) The decision by teachers at a Quebec school to replace Mother’s Day events with a celebration of parents has led to discussions all the way to the provincial legislature (立法机关), but supporters say such moves can benefit children. 【答案】1. A 2. B 3. A 4. 【答案】1. B 2. A 3. B 4. Voice cloning is re-establishing life styles for the better 【答案】1. C 2. D 3. B 4. 1. 【答案】1. C 2. A 3. C 4. 【答案】1. A 2. D 3. A 4. C 【导语】本文是一篇新闻报道。文章主要报道了关于AI在文学创作中取得的成就和相关的讨论,同时引用了不同人物的观点和看法。 1. 推理判断题。根据文章第一段“AI-generated content has recently won big in the literary world. Japanese author Rie Kudan won one of Japan’s most famous literary awards, the Akutagawa Prize, with the help of ChatGPT in The Tokyo Tower of Sympathy.(AI生成的内容最近在文学界取得了重大成就。 故选A。 2. 细节理解题。根据文章第三段“She added that there is a scene in the book where an AI Chabot answers the main character’s questions and she used AI-generated text in the responses given by AI in the story. The word-for-word content generated by Al was applauded by committee members as “practically flawless”, said CNN.(她补充说,书中有一个场景是人工智能聊天机器人回答主角的问题,她在故事中使用人工智能生成的文本来回答。 根据文章第五段“However, Chinese writer Luo Ping holds the positive view. “Improvements in technology will not cause human laziness in creating, but rather will only make them involved in more heated competition. With the help of technology, the starting point of human thinking will only grow higher,” Luo told Hongxing News.(然而,中国作家骆平持积极的观点。“技术的进步不会导致人类懒惰的创造,而只会使他们参与更激烈的竞争。在科技的帮助下,人类思维的起点只会越来越高,” 骆平告诉红星新闻。)”可知,骆平认为在科技的帮助下,人类思维的起点只会越来越高。故选A。 4. 【答案】1. B 2. C 3. D 4. 根据第一段“In 2009, when Qatar (卡塔尔) bid to host the 2022 Football World Cup, it promised a carbon-neutral (碳中和) event. 1. A 【导语】本文是新闻报道。本文报道了第19届亚运会开幕式,一场充满杭州特色的令人惊叹的开幕式震惊了世界。 1. 推理判断题。根据第二段“Following an opening performance depicting the autumn equinox (秋分), one of China’s 24 solar terms that celebrates the harvest season, over 50,000 spectators burst into cheers as Xi announced the opening of the Hangzhou Games, making the Zhejiang provincial capital the third Chinese city to host the continental sporting gala, following Beijing in 1990 and Guangzhou in 2010.(在一场描绘秋分(中国24节气之一,用来庆祝丰收的季节)的开场表演之后,当习宣布杭州奥运会开幕时,超过5万名观众爆发出欢呼声,使浙江省省会成为继1990年的北京和2010年的广州之后,第三个举办大陆体育盛会的中国城市)”可知,秋分是用来庆祝丰收的季节,所以秋分画在杭州亚运会开幕式的开头是因为杭州希望参与者在比赛中获得好收成。故选D项。 2. 细节理解题。根据第三段“Raja Randhir Singh, the acting president of the Olympic Council of Asia, showed appreciation for the Chinese host’s meticulous (细心的) organization in his speech. “You have done a fantastic job in preparing for the Asian Games. The one-year postponement due to the pandemic was unprecedented in OCA history, but your diligence and determination will bear fruit over the next 16 days and you will be rewarded with the most magnificent and successful Asian Games ever,” said Singh.(亚洲奥林匹克理事会代理主席拉贾·兰迪尔·辛格在讲话中对中国东道主精心组织奥运会表示赞赏。“你们为亚运会做了出色的准备工作。由于疫情而推迟一年在亚奥理事会历史上是前所未有的,但你们的勤奋和决心将在未来16天结出果实,你们将获得有史以来最宏伟、最成功的亚运会。”)”可知,亚运会由于疫情而推迟一年,所以B项“亚运会原定于2022年举行”正确。故选B项。 3. 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“For the first time in China, organizers switched from a traditional fireworks show to a virtual display, projected (放映) onto a giant curtain screen the size of nine IMAX screens.(在中国,组织者第一次从传统的烟花表演转变为虚拟表演,投影在一块有9块IMAX银幕那么大的巨型幕幕上)”以及最后一段“To adhere to the principle of delivering the greenest possible Games, zero-emission methanol was used to fuel all of the torches and the main cauldron.(为了坚持举办最环保奥运会的原则,所有火炬和主火炬都使用了零排放的甲醇)”可知,杭州亚运会通过使用零排放甲醇和安装一个巨大的帘幕来减少碳足迹。故选C项。 4. 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Hangzhou, China—a stunning opening ceremony laden with Hangzhou characteristics amazed the world on Saturday, as President Xi Jinping declared the 19th Asian Games open.(中国杭州,周六,当习近平主席宣布第19届亚运会开幕时,一场充满杭州特色的令人惊叹的开幕式震惊了世界)”可知,本文主要介绍了杭州亚运会的开幕式,以及第二段“With the city’s profound history, culture and its modern image presented in an eye-catching and high-tech fashion, the opening show helped to express the host’s warm hospitality and its wish to unite the world through sports.(开幕式以一种引人注目的高科技方式展示了这座城市深厚的历史、文化和现代形象,表达了东道主的热情好客和通过体育团结世界的愿望)”可知,开幕式以一种引人注目的高科技方式展示了这座城市深厚的历史、文化和现代形象,所以A项“Technology and Tradition Combine for the Hangzhou Opening Gala(科技与传统的结合——杭州开幕盛典)”是本文最好的标题。故选A项。 1 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
