M: I have heard that doing simple tasks in different ways, like taking a new route to school, can boost creativity. Do you reward yourself for finishing these challenges?
W: Absolutely. I’ve already rewarded myself with a mystery box. If I succeed this time, I’ll reward myself with a phone case. Would you like to join me? The next challenge is not checking social media for a week.
M: Well, maybe I’ll try something simpler.
W: The “meal-time phone silence” challenge is a good start — just no screens while eating.
M: Okay, that’s my challenge: phone-free meals!

【答案】17. A 18. C 19. B 20. B
【解析】
【详解】M: Have you ever wondered whose voice brings your favorite cartoon characters to life or tells the stories in documentaries? None of this would be possible without the hard work of people like Lucas. Let’s follow Lucas through a typical workday.
A voice actor’s day begins long before they step into the recording studio. Lucas’ day starts with a light breakfast at around 7:00 a.m. He usually drinks honey water and warm tea in the mornings. Coffee is a big no-no, as it can make his throat dry and tight. Then he spends an hour reviewing his scripts for the day. Today, he has two work projects: a TV drama and a video game.
By 9:30 a.m., Lucas arrives at the recording studio. The first project, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., is for the TV drama. With the director and the sound engineer in the recording studio, he voices his character.
After a 30-minute lunch, Lucas’ second project begins. This one is for the video game. It ends at 3:00 p.m. Then he takes a short online vocal coaching class. He finishes his workday at 6:00 p.m., but keeps up his voice care routine — avoiding loud noises and drinking plenty of water.

Every Saturday morning, my family and I go to the local market. The market is in the center of town, and it’s always busy with people. There are many stalls selling all kinds of things: fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade bread, flowers, and even handcrafted toys. Going to the market is one of our favorite weekend traditions.
When we arrive at the market, the first thing I notice is the smell. There’s the sweet smell of fresh strawberries and ripe melons from the fruit stall, and the warm smell of bread from the bakery stall. My little sister, Mia, always runs to the flower stall first. She loves the colorful roses and sunflowers. The flower seller, Mrs. Lee, always gives her a small daisy to hold. Mia smiles so big that her eyes almost close.
My mom likes to go to the vegetable stall. She talks to the farmer, Mr. Chen, about which vegetables are fresh that day. He always lets her taste a cherry tomato or a piece of cucumber. “These are from my garden,” he says proudly. “I picked them this morning.” My mom fills her basket with carrots, broccoli, and lettuce. She says vegetables from the market taste better than those from the supermarket because they’re so fresh.
My dad goes straight to the bread stall. He buys a big loaf of whole-grain bread and some cinnamon rolls for breakfast. The baker, Mr. Johnson, knows my dad’s order by heart. “The usual?” he asks, and dad nods with a smile. I like to go to the toy stall. The toys are made by local craftsmen, and they’re very unique. Last week, I bought a small wooden car that I’ve been playing with every day.
After we’ve finished shopping, we usually stop at a small café near the market. We sit outside and drink juice while Mia plays with her daisy. Mom looks at our bags full of food and says, “We’ll have a delicious dinner tonight.” I love our trips to the market because they’re a time for our family to be together, and I always feel happy when we’re there.
24. When do the writer’s family go to the market?
A. Every Friday morning. B. Every Saturday morning.
C. Every Sunday afternoon. D. Every Monday evening.
25. What does Mia love to do at the market?
A. Taste fresh vegetables. B. Buy wooden toys.
C. Look at flowers. D. Eat cinnamon rolls.

There are now all kinds of robots that can do all kinds of things: robots that can clean your home, robots that can deliver your shopping, robots that can teach your children, and even robots that can play tennis with you.
However, a new robot from Panasonic can’t do any of these things. The new robot, called NICOBO, actually can’t do so much at all. NICOBO is a soft, “weak” robot. It is invented to become a companion for lonely people.
So what can NICOBO do? Well, the robot can wag its tail if you pet it. It can turn around, nod up and down, and move its eyes to look at you. It speaks its own language, and can also learn some simple foreign languages and talk with its owner.
The robot, which is about the size of a bowling ball, has a small child’s voice. The idea is that looking after a childlike robot that can’t even move by itself will make people feel less lonely.
However, NICOBO isn’t cheap. The robot itself costs around $460. And there’s also a monthly fee for $8 for software updates.
Will anyone buy it? Actually someone probably will. Panasonic made 320 NICOBO robots available on a website. They were all sold out in a single day.
NICOBO has been available to buy online since May 16, 2023.
28. What is Paragraph 1 mainly about?
A. Applications of robots. B. The newly-invented robots.
C. Different kinds of robots. D. Things expected to do by robots.
29. Who is NICOBO suitable for?
A. Unsocial people. B. Lazy housewives.
C. Researchers in AI. D. Students studying art.
30. What can be known about NICOBO?
A. It is a little costly. B. It looks like a child.
C. It can clean the house. D. It can only be bought offline.
31. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. Robots comfort people. B. NICOBO is promising.
C. Online shopping is powerful. D. Humans like robots very much.

26. Who sells vegetables at the market?
A. Mrs. Lee. B. Mr. Chen. C. Mr. Johnson. D. A local craftsman.
27. What does the writer’s dad usually buy?
A. Fresh fruits. B. A loaf of bread and cinnamon rolls.
C. Handcrafted toys. D. Flowers.
