Ah, spring break. The flowers are in bloom, the temperature is rising, and some children are going to enjoy a break from homework and tests. But for parents, spring break can be a struggle. What do you do with your children when you’re preoccupied with work?
One option: Enrolling them in spring break camp. These day-or week-long programs are aimed to keep children active and enrich their bodies and minds. Here are some of our favorite spring break camp ideas for 2025.
Museum Spring Break Camps
From children’s centers and zoos to art galleries, museums offer countless camp options. For example, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the South State Museum and the Children’s Museum all offer camps for school-aged kids. The Central Park Zoo even boasts its own spring break camp. For more information about dates, rates, and availability, visit the website of your local museum, zoo, or learning center.
Tech-Focused Spring Break Camps
Whether you’ve got a Minecraft fan or a coding enthusiast, you can likely find tech spring break camps in your region. For example, iCAMP offers school holiday camps, both in-person and online, focused on teaching STEAM topics like robotics, graphic art, science, 3D printing, and more. Check your local center for more information.
ActivityHero Spring Break Camps
No matter what they’re interested in, ActivityHero has something for ages 8 — 10 with a friendly price tag (标签). From guitar and musical theater to chess and game design, you’ll also find online spring break camps for March to mid-April with ActivityHero. Camp lengths vary.
Spring Break Sports Camps
If your kid is eager to get active after months of classroom lessons, consider the cost-efficient SportsCamp for kids aged 7 and under. Whether they prefer soccer, baseball swimming, or gymnastics, you might find a program specializing in training during spring break. Contact your local sporting club for more information.

Sylvain Saudan’s skiing was so alarmingly ambitious that people struggled to believe his accomplishments were real. The Swiss extreme skiing pioneer became the first to successfully rush down the Spencer Couloir’s 55-degree slope (斜坡) — with more than 200 turns, at speeds close to freefall on France’s Aiguille de Blaitière mountain in 1967. Locals didn’t trust that he’d really done it until a plane flew over the mountain and took photos of his ski tracks. Nicknamed the “skier of the impossible,” Saudan sought out slopes from the Himalayas to the Alps, often reaching the peaks by helicopter. But in 1982, he climbed for 25 days to reach the 26, 500-foot summit of Pakistan’s Gasherbrum I, searching for virgin areas in its natural state. “The first to dare something are the real adventurers,” he said in 2016. “It’s the first that counts.”
Raised on a farm in the Alps, Saudan didn’t have the resources to train as a competitive skier, and worked as a laborer and truck driver before becoming a ski instructor. Teaching through icy winters in Scotland helped prepare him for deadly slopes. After skiing the Spencer Couloir, he spent two decades “seeking greater challenges and testing new methods,” said The Washington Post. He developed a new skiing style and introduced equipment innovations for steep slopes, but ignored safety precautions as he shot down Oregon’s Mount Hood, Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro, and Nepal’s Dhaulagiri.
Saudan completed his last major expedition in 1986 by skiing down Mount Fuji on bare rocks, walking away without a single cut. He “spent his life challenging gravity, avalanches, and obituary (讣告) writers,” said The New York Times. He insisted that mental preparation helped keep fear cornered, yet death was never far from his mind. “There’s really only one way out,” he said: “Don’t fall down.”
24.How did people react to Saudan’s achievement on the Spencer Couloir’s 55-degree slope?
A.They thought of him as a skiing pioneer. B.They considered it as a fact at once.
C.They were ignorant of it completely. D.They doubted it till evidence arrived.
25.Which of the following can best describe Saudan?
A.Brave and generous. B.Adventurous and devoted.
C.Creative but timid. D.Reserved but famous.
26.Why did Saudan go skiing?
A.To escape his past life as a laborer. B.To push himself to new limits.
C.To document adventures for fame. D.To test new skiing equipment.
27.What does The New York Times imply about Saudan?
A.He faced extreme dangers in his career. B.He was cautious during his expeditions.
C.His skiing methods were widely accepted. D.His achievements were often questioned.

Just a few degrees’ difference can turn a rainy day into a night on a magical scene straight out of a snow globe. Of course, snow has its haters, but there are some powerful scientific reasons why many people are so enamored by gently falling ice crystals.
For people who grew up carefully turning pajamas inside out and backward in hopes of flakes (雪花), snow can be a powerful reminder of joyful childhood days — another expected day of sitting in school turned into one filled with snowball fights or sledding.
But there are also plenty of reasons why snow can appeal to people without those fond memories. In fact, says psychologist Kari Leibowitz, snow quite literally alters our physical experience of the world. For example, freshly fallen snow is porous (多孔的) enough to absorb sound well, making the world quieter. And it plays even more strongly on our sense of sight. “There’s something about the white and fresh snow that is very aesthetically pleasing,” says Lei bowitz. Snow also changes the very shape of the world people see around them, Leibowitz says, pointing to the way a fresh blanket of it hides and yet reveals our surroundings.
Whether school is canceled or not, snow shakes up the routines of life, which can be annoying and inconvenient — but can also be fun and exciting. Perhaps what’s most striking about our response to snow is that tension itself. In the right conditions, snow can be inviting. But for certain people or under other circumstances, the same weather can become the very opposite: exhausting or depressing.
Leibowitz advocates adopting a mindset that embraces changing seasons, which can help people stay open to snow’s potential charms. And she recommends slowing down in the winter, taking inspiration from the long nights and cold days — and argues that snow can be a helpful cue to do so. “It’ s such a clear visual reminder that we’ re in a different season and we can respond more adaptively,” she says.
But as climate change continues to unfold, some historically snowy areas will lose the most magical precipitation (降水) — and face nothing but cold rain. “There are a lot of places in the world that are right on this borderline where the difference of a couple of degrees of warming is the difference between a white, snowy winter and a gray, rainy winter,” Leibowitz says. “I think there’s a lot that is lost when we lose the cold and when we lose the snow. ”
28.What does the underlined word“enamoured” in paragraph 1 mean?
A.Engaged. B.Puzzled.
C.Bothered. D.Shocked.
29.Why does snow attract some people?
A.It appeals to them in a sensory way.
B.It reminds them of happy school days.
C.It transforms the surroundings directly.
D.It changes their mental experience of the world.
30.What is Leibowitz’s advice regarding the snow days?
A.To ease the tension independently.
B.To immerse yourself in the flakes.
C.To quicken the pace to prevent coldness.
D.To sigh for the canceled school routine.
31.What is implied in the last paragraph?
A.A couple of degrees really matter.
B.Rainy winter is likely to be favored.
C.What brings childhood joy may disappear.
D.There still exist huge differences of climate.

The distinction between biologically primary and biologically secondary knowledge described by Geary is an instructionally important categorisation method.
Biologically primary knowledge is knowledge we, as a species, have specifically evolved to acquire over generations. Primary skills, such as learning general problem solving strategies, recognising faces, communication through listening and speaking a native language, and social relations including our ability to communicate with each other, are modular, with each skill likely to have evolved during different evolutionary periods. We can acquire primary knowledge, easily, unconsciously, and without concrete instruction merely by membership in a group.
The ability to acquire vast aspects of the culture we grow up in is biologically primary. Nevertheless, in most cultures, there are many concepts and procedures that we have not specifically evolved to acquire such as reading, doing mathematics, working with a computer, or searching the internet. Those biologically secondary skills are acquired consciously, often requiring considerable effort. Unlike primary knowledge and skills, obvious instruction is important when dealing with secondary knowledge and skills, or this knowledge acquisition will be severely compromised.
Unlike the generic-cognitive (通用认知的) skills that tend to be biologically primary, biologically secondary skills tend to be field-specific. Examples of biologically secondary skills include almost everything that is taught in education and training institutions. The distinction between primary, generic-cognitive knowledge and secondary, field-specific knowledge explains why information tends to be acquired differently outside as opposed to inside educational contexts. We use primary knowledge to facilitate acquiring secondary knowledge. For example, to learn geometry in a traditional class or using computer-supported material requires primary skills such as visual recognition, attention, and senses about space, time and sequence, to name a few.
In this way, the theoretical machinery of evolutionary educational psychology can be used to suggest that the primary, generic-cognitive knowledge associated with cooperative learning may, under some circumstances, improve the acquisition of the biologically secondary, field-specific knowledge that is taught.
32.What does the underlined word in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Consisting of separate parts. B.Looking like a piece of cake.
C.Witnessing constant changes. D.Serving as long-term abilities.
33.What is the feature of primary skills?
A.They aims to solve rare problems.
B.They are acquired when one is born.
C.They require no formal teaching.
D.They are the product of observation.
34.Which writing way does the text skip when leading secondary skills?
A.Posing contrasts. B.Quoting figures.
C.Giving definitions. D.Showing examples.
35.How do primary skills help secondary knowledge acquisition?
A.By finding their similarities.
B.By laying a solid foundation.
C.By bettering learners’ focus.
D.By offering a familiar setting.
第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
As we all know, not all thoughts are welcome. Intrusive (入侵的) thoughts often emerge as unwanted visitors, disrupting our minds. They are involuntary and unwanted mental ideas or urges that pop into our minds without invitation. 36 .
Most people experience intrusive thoughts from time to time. For example, if someone is driving, they might have an urge to drive off a bridge. Most people know they would never do such things and don’t pay much attention to them. 37 . And they worry that these thoughts will come true or cause them to do something terrible. This can lead to them performing compulsions (强制行为) to try and reduce their anxiety.
Fortunately, there are strategies to deal with intrusive thoughts.
Accept them. Accept and allow the thoughts into your mind. 38 . Try to just observe them and allow time to pass. Remember that intrusive thoughts are normal, and just having a thought doesn’t make it come true.
39 . We know it’s difficult sometimes! Developing a sympathetic mindset toward yourself can do so much against unwanted thoughts, though. Treat yourself with the same kindness you would offer to a friend going through a similar struggle.
Stay present. The more present you are in the “here and now”, the less power you’re giving to these nagging fears and negative thoughts. You can try some grounding exercises, such as focusing on your breath. 40 .
A.Love yourself
B.Don’t try to push them away
C.Never be too hard on yourself
D.However, some people become troubled by their intrusive thoughts
E.They can be anything that a person finds inconsistent with their values
F.That can help bring your attention back and break the cycle of intrusive thoughts
G.People who have such terrible experiences may be easy to have intrusive thoughts

第二节 (满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lena had always been a quiet girl who struggled to make friends. At school, whenever someone tried to talk to her, her mind would race with worries: “What if I say something wrong? What if they think I'm strange? ” These thoughts always made her stumble over her words or give awkward replies. Once, after she accidentally gave a wrong answer in class, she heard some classmates giggling (咯咯地笑). Since then, she had become even more afraid to speak up.
One rainy afternoon, while walking home from school, she noticed a small dog huddled (蜷缩) under a bush. The dog looked lost and scared, just like how she felt whenever she tried to join a conversation. It was shivering, wet, and alone. Lena crouched down and gently approached it.
The dog wagged (摇摆) its tail slightly and came closer. Lena noticed a blue collar hidden under its wet fur. Something about its trusting eyes made her heart ache. She decided to take it home. Her parents agreed to keep it temporarily while searching for its owner. Lena named the dog “Shadow” because it followed her everywhere, just like her own shadows of self-doubt.
As days passed, Lena noticed how naturally Shadow interacted with everyone. At the park, he would approach others with complete confidence and make friends effortlessly. Even when he made mistakes, like accidentally knocking over someone's water bottle, his friendly tail wag would make everyone laugh with him, not at him.
Taking Shadow for walks gave Lena unexpected friendships. Emily, a girl from her class, often came to the park with her own dog. They started talking about their pets, and soon Emily became Lena’ s first real friend. Through Emily, Lena met other kids and gradually found herself part of a group that would meet at the park to play with their dogs. For the first time, she felt like she belonged.
注意:1. 所续写短文的词数应为150左右;

27.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“He ‘spent his life challenging gravity, avalanches, and obituary (讣告) writers,’ said The New York Times. He insisted that mental preparation helped keep fear cornered, yet death was never far from his mind.(他‘一生都在挑战重力、雪崩和讣告作者们,’《纽约时报》说。他坚持认为,心理上的准备有助于控制恐惧,但死亡从未远离他的脑海)”可推知,《纽约时报》暗示索丹在职业生涯中一直在挑战极限,随时准备着讣告,面临着极端的危险。故选A项。
C
【答案】28.A 29.A 30.B 31.C
【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了人们喜欢雪背后的原因,对于雪的不同反应,以及在全球气候变化的背景下珍惜和享受雪所带来的乐趣和美。
28.词义猜测题。根据划线单词句中“Of course, snow has its haters, but there are some powerful scientific reasons why many people are so…by gently falling ice crystals.( 当然,也有讨厌雪的人,但有一些强有力的科学原因可以解释为什么许多人如此……轻柔飘落的冰晶。)”可知,but表示转折,前面说雪有讨厌它的人,那么后面应该是说很多人喜欢飘落的冰晶。A 选项“Engaged”有“着迷的;感兴趣的”意思,符合语境。故选A项。
29.细节理解题。根据第三段中“In fact, says psychologist Kari Leibowitz, snow quite literally alters our physical experience of the world. For example, freshly fallen snow is porous (多孔的) enough to absorb sound well, making the world quieter. And it plays even more strongly on our sense of sight. “There’s something about the white and fresh snow that is very aesthetically pleasing,” says Lei bowitz. Snow also changes the very shape of the world people see around them, Leibowitz says, pointing to the way a fresh blanket of it hides and yet reveals our surroundings.(心理学家Kari Leibowitz说,事实上,雪确实改变了我们对世界的物理体验。 故选A项。
30.推理判断题。根据第五段“Leibowitz advocates adopting a mindset that cmbraces changing seasons, which can help people stay open to snow’s potential charms. And she recommends slowing down in the winter, taking inspiration from the long nights and cold days — and argues that snow can be a helpful cue to do so. “It’ s such a clear visual reminder that we’ re in a different season and we can respond more adaptively,” she says.( Leibowitz提倡采取一种拥抱季节变化的心态,这可以帮助人们对雪的潜在魅力保持开放的心态。
根据最后一段“But as climate change continues to unfold, some historically snowy areas will lose the most magical precipitation(降水)— and face nothing but cold rain. “There are a lot of places in the world that are right on this borderline where the difference of a couple of degrees of warming is the difference between a white, snowy winter and a gray, rainy winter,” Leibowitz says. “I think there’s a lot that is lost when we lose the cold and when we lose the snow.
D

【答案】32.A 33.C 34.B 35.B
【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要讲述的是生物性初级知识与生物性次级知识的区别,以及这两种知识在学习和教育中的重要性。
32.词句猜测题。由第二段的“Primary skills, such as learning general problem solving strategies, recognising faces, communication through listening and speaking a native language, and social relations including our ability to communicate with each other(基本技能,比如学习一般的解决问题的策略,识别面孔,通过听和说母语进行交流,以及社会关系,包括我们相互沟通的能力)”和“with each skill likely to have evolved during different evolutionary periods(每种技能都可能在不同的进化时期进化而来)”可知,每个初级技能可能在不同的进化时期进化。这句话的重点在于different,也就是说每个初级技能有自己对应要掌握的阶段,这些不同的阶段构成了不同的部分或模块,划线词modular的意思是“模块化”,和consisting of separate parts意思相近。故选A。
33.细节理解题。由第二段的“We can acquire primary knowledge, easily, unconsciously, and without concrete instruction merely by membership in a group.(我们可以很容易地、不自觉地获得基本知识,而不需要具体的指导,仅仅是作为一个群体的成员。)”可知,我们可以很容易地、无意识地获取初级知识,只加入一个群体即可,不需要具体的讲授。故选C。

Para 2: Lena and Emily began visiting Lucky every now and then.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 One day, a woman carrying a “Lost Dog: Lucky” poster walked into the park. Lena’s heart dropped when she saw Shadow’s picture on the flyer. The woman rushed forward upon seeing the dog, and Shadow — whose real name was Lucky — immediately bounded towards her with excited barks. Through tears, Lena watched their reunion, but the owner, noticing her sadness, warmly invited her to visit anytime she wanted. It was a hard time for Lena but she knew it was time for Lucky to go home.
Lena and Emily began visiting Lucky every now and then. The regular visits to the woman’s house became something Lena looked forward to each week. Watching Lucky play freely and confidently with other dogs helped Lena realize that she too could overcome her fears. At school, she gradually found her voice in class discussions, and even when she made mistakes, she remembered Lucky’s carefree spirit. The little lost dog had taught her that the best friendships often begin when we open our hearts to others, even if it means having to let go.
