There is a saying that we should all just mind our own business and let the chips fall where they may, because no good comes from doing good. This, of course, is not necessarily true.
In Hawaiian culture, aloha has many meanings. First, it is a greeting. However, it is also an expression of love and friendship. One man was a living example of “aloha”, for he had a story to unfold.
Amanda was shopping with her young son, and she was absorbed in picking up their groceries for their family reunion. She was in such a hurry that she even forgot her wallet in the shopping cart, which contained her driver license, credit cards, plenty of cash, and even a gift card that could easily be redeemed (兑换) by anyone . It was not until she arrived home that she found her wallet gone. The woman returned to the supermarket, and started her search for the lost wallet by watching hours and hours of security footage in the supermarket. After turning to several different cameras around the store, but in vain, she completely gave up hope.
Andy Jose was a security guard at the World supermarket. He moved to Maui 5 years ago, and worked as a security guard at the grocery store to support the family and put himself through college. He rode his bike to work and school every day because he didn’t have a car.

A store owner was tacking a sign above his door that read “Puppies For Sale”. Signs like that have a way of attracting small children, and sure enough, a little boy appeared under the store owner’s sign. “How much are you going to sell the puppies for?” he asked. The store owner replied, “From $30 to $50.” The little boy reached in his pocket and pulled out some change. “I only have $2.37,” he said. “Can I look at them?”
The store owner smiled and whistled. Out of the kennel (狗窝) came a female dog, who ran out of his store, followed by five tiny balls of fur. One puppy was left behind, moving slowly. Immediately, the little boy found out the slowly limping (跛行的) puppy and said, “What’s wrong with that little dog?”
The store owner explained that the vet (兽医) had examined the little puppy and found that he didn’t have a hip socket (髋臼). He would always limp. The little boy became excited. “That is the little puppy that I want to buy.”
The store owner said, “No, you don’t need to buy that little dog. If you really want him, I will just give him to you.”
The little boy got quite upset. He looked straight into the store owner’s eyes, pointing his finger and said, “I don’t want you to give him to me. That little dog is worth every bit as much as all the other dogs and I will pay full price. I can give you $2.37 now, and then fifty cents a month until I have paid for him.”
The store owner countered, “You really don’t need to buy this little dog. He is never going to be able to run, jump and play with you like the other puppies.”

The prize may go to the fastest, but sometimes, the first one to cross the finish line isn’t the only winner. Nowhere was that more true than at a recent 5K invitational (邀请赛) in Shelbyville, Indiana.
There were two players in the match: Levi LaGrange and Axel Aleman, who hadn’t known each other before. Levi LaGrange, an 18-year-old student from Western Boone High School, has been expecting to be a professional sportsman for many years. Axel Aleman, who is from Sheridan High School, is a friendly and generous person and he is always more concerned about others than himself. Axel once said to his classmates, “When you are standing at a crossroad, you can choose the path of self-interest, or you can go the extra mile for someone in need. As a teen athlete, the choice is extremely clear.”
The game went very well at first. However, with less than half a mile to go, Levi LaGrange slipped, twisting his ankle. He said, “I was running up the little rolling hill and I hurt my ankle. I felt something was wrong with my ankle.”
Levi stopped and signed to Axel to pass him. Generally, winning a match should be the mission for a sportsman, But at that moment, the race became a secondary concern for Axel. “I was able to see he was in a lot of pain,” Axel recalled. “As I got closer to him, he narrowly fell down. I asked if he was all right. He said he felt like something broken in his leg.”
Rather than running ahead, in an extraordinary act of true sportsmen, Axel refused to leave Levi behind. “As soon as I saw him, I knew I had to do something,” Axel said. “It just seemed like the right thing to do. That mattered more than the race. I told him I wasn’t going to leave. I wanted to help him finish the match.”

My knees started shaking, yet my body froze. It felt as though my soul departed my body and I had no control over it. Anxiously, I looked through the roster (名单) posted on the wall of the locker room. My heart was beating harder and harder as I slowly saw all my friends' names on that list but could not find mine. At that moment, I froze. I just could not accept that all my friends were on the basketball team while I was not.
I was so convinced there was a mistake that I went and found the coach. “Hey, coach, are you sure that the roster you posted is correct?” I asked anxiously, dreading (担心) his answer.
“Yes, the names on the list are finalized. Sorry if you did not make it this year, there is always next year,” the coach replied.
I could feel the hot, bitter tears filling my eyes, and I ran out of the room as fast as I could. Trying to forget about the situation, I headed over to the cafeteria to buy some food. I felt dead inside, like nothing mattered. Walking was such a burden that it felt as if I had a 100-pound weight tied to my backpack. My mind was also blank for the rest of the school day. Everything my teachers said went in one ear and out the other.
After school, as I walked to the parking lot to get picked up, I saw all my friends gathered near the back of the lot, celebrating and joking around. I detoured (绕道) around the side of the school to avoid them, trying not to think about being the only one in our friend group failing to make the team.
I saw my father's red car pull up near the school lot. I walked up to the car and got in. He smiled at me, turned on the radio, and started driving home. And soon he noticed my gloomy face, and asked me what was wrong. “Nothing. Well, it's just that all my friends made the school team. Everyone! Except me...” I stammered (口吃). “Well, what are you going to do about it? Are you just going to sit there and wait?” he asked. Surprised, I didn't know what to say.

I was a single mother in my 30s who lived down and out with my daughter Peggy in a small apartment, struggling hard to make our needs meet.
One day, I headed to the downtown for an interview. I sat down in the streetcar, and there against the seat was a beautiful silk umbrella with a silver handle decorated with gold, on which there was a name carved.
On impulse (冲动) I determined to find the owner myself. I got off the streetcar in the heavy rain and thankfully opened the umbrella to protect myself. Then I searched a telephone book for the name. I found it immediately and called it, waiting patiently, and then a lady answered.
“Yes,” she said in surprise, with extreme excitement. “It was my umbrella which had been stolen a year ago.”
So appealing was her pleasure that I forgot I was looking for a job and went directly to her small house. She took the umbrella, with teary eyes, explaining with choking voice that the umbrella was given by her parents, now dead. Her happiness at recovering this special possession was such that to have accepted her reward would have ruined something, so I refused her offer and left.
The following months were hard. I could only obtain temporary employment, for a small salary. What was worse, I had just lost my last job before Christmas, with only fifteen dollars left. Unless a miracle (奇迹) happened, I would be homeless in January, foodless and jobless. I had prayed steadily for weeks, and there had been no answer but this coldness and darkness.
The air was full of Christmas merriment, with the bells ringing and children shouting in the bitter dusk of the evening dreaming of the gifts from Santa Claus (圣诞老人). But there should be no Christmas for me, I knew, no gifts, no remembrance whatsoever.
Thinking of this, I couldn’t control my tears on my way home, but I managed a smile so I could greet my little daughter. She opened the door for me and threw herself in my arms, screaming joyously and demanding desirably for her Christmas gift. There I stood, frozen, overcome by sorrow.

One day a friend invited me to join gymnastics class that she had belonged to for many years. My mom got the needed information and within a few days I was ready to start!
When I got there, I was extremely nervous. The group wasn’t very welcoming so I was regretting signing up. It seemed they were comfortable with the team they had, and they didn’t want anyone to be added to it. But after working together for a few days, we all soon became friends. A month passed and I learned to do many things. I was excited and ready to learn back handsprings(手翻). Back handsprings are one of the main things you need to know for gymnastics because they are done so often. In my opinion, they are the hardest to do, but I was ready to try.
My friend was the queen of back handsprings, so she helped me understand each and every step. Our coach pulled out a handspring machine to help the kids who were learning how to do them for the first time. This machine is a block that has cushion(垫子) all around it. You basically sit in the mouth of the machine and push off with your feet and go backwards until you land on your hands, then feet.
Even with the handspring machine, I couldn’t get my feet right, so I had to try again and again. Impatient, some of the girls seemed to get angry. I was feeling like the new kid in the group again. The new kid that didn’t know what she was doing but everyone else knew it!

To act with honesty was a habit with Susan who always follows the Golden Rule: “Do not do to others what you do not want others to do to you.” But when she thought over her past conduct, a blush of shame appeared on her cheeks, as many little acts of selfishness and unkindness came back to her memory. She was determined that for the future, both in great things and small, she would remember and follow the Golden Rule.
It was not long after this that an opportunity occurred, which tried Susan’s principles. One Saturday evening she went, as usual, to Mr. Thompson’s store, to receive the money of her mother’s washing for him, which amounted to five dollars. When she arrived, she found Mr. Thompson extremely busy. As Susan made her request for the money, he simply pressed a bill into her hand.
With the bill in hand, Susan happily went out of the gate. Pausing to put the money safely in her purse, she discovered that he had given her two bills instead of one. She looked around; nobody was near and her first reaction was joy at the unexpected prize.
“It is all mine,” said she to herself. “I will buy my mother a new coat with it, and she can give her old one to my sister Mary, and then Mary can go to school with me next winter. I wonder if I can buy a pair of shoes for my brother Tom, too.”
At that moment she remembered that he must have given it to her by mistake. But again the voice of the tempter whispered, ‘‘He gave it, and how do you know that he did not intend to make you a present of it? Keep it! He will never know it.”

As a sixth grader, I began noticing how other kids were separating into groups. I wasn’t sure where I belonged. I found it hard to fit in.
Our teacher had assigned “secret friends” for the coming week. She wrote each kid’s name on a piece of paper and threw them into a glass; then we each closed our eyes and catch one piece of paper from the glass on which was the name of a classmate who we were to secretly befriend and support each other over the next five school days. By the middle of the week, everyone, including me, had turned this assignment into a competition to see whose secret friend could leave the best gift. We left cards, pens and even money. It seemed that everyone was getting cool presents from their friend except me.
On the last morning of our assignment, I walked into my classroom and noticed there was a package. I opened the wrapping paper and inside was a box of powder (胭脂). The girls sitting near me laughed at the gift I had received. To make matters worse, the powder had already been opened.
I tried to forget about the embarrassing gift, but when I was in the bathroom during the break, the girls who had seen me open the powder started speaking ill of my secret friend. I quickly joined in: “How terrible”. I heard myself saying “What could my friend be thinking by giving me such a stupid gift? My grandmother wouldn’t even want it.” The girls laughed at my remarks and rushed out of the bathroom. I stayed to wash my hands and let the water run through my fingers as I thought about what I had just said. It wasn’t normal like me to say mean things like that about someone.

In a distant village surrounded by rolling hills and large fields, there lived a young boy named Lei. At the age of 15, Lei stood out with excellent study performance. His journey to this point, however, was full of challenges and struggles.
Lei was born in a happy family. His parents, hardworking farmers, grew crops from the land to support their family’s life. Lei grew up, surrounded by the love and care of his family, with his days filled with laughter and the simple joys of childhood. However, his life took a sudden turn when his parents decided to move to the city in search of greater opportunities to support their family. Therefore, Lei had to be left behind and taken care of by his grandparents. Although Lei was taken good care of, he felt lonely and sad without his parents around. The house was once filled with his parents’ voices, but now only he and his grandparents were at home. He missed his parents and the happy time he spent with them.
This emotional struggle began to affect Lei’s schoolwork. Once as a curious and eager student, Lei found himself losing interest in his studies. He even didn’t want to go to school from time to time and his grades began to fall greatly. Realizing the seriousness of the situation, his parents made a difficult decision to send Lei to a boarding (寄宿制) school, hoping it would provide him with a fresh start.
However, adjusting to the boarding school life was not easy for Lei. His shy nature made it difficult for him to connect with his classmates and he often felt like an outsider. The pressure and loneliness increased until one day Lei told his teacher about his feeling and thoughts. Concerned about Lei’s health, the teacher immediately reached out to his parents, expecting them to have a heart-to-heart conversation with their son. Taking the teacher’s advice to heart, Lei’s parents took on a long journey, traveling by train and bus for almost a day to reach him.

Last March, Margarito drove to visit his mother who lived in the countryside. When he set off for home, Margarito’s mother looked at the dark sky and noticed the sign of a coming storm. Worried about her son's safety, she told him to drive as carefully as possible on his way home and he promised to give her a call upon his arrival.
With his mother's words in mind, Margrito approached the main road carefully. Soon, it started to rain heavily. Eager to get home, Margarito began to drive faster. Two hours later, he came to a bumpy mountain road that had been flooded by a creek(小溪).Margarito, driving a four-wheel truck, figured that he would be OK. At that moment, he didn't realize that such a thought would be a big mistake.
It was halfway across the creek that an unfortunate incident took place: The rushing waters grabbed hold of his vehicle, pushing it off the road and sending it down a rocky creek bed. The truck finally stopped some 80 feet away. Margarito’s problems only grew from there as the water had somehow positioned the truck into the creek bank at a 45-degree angle, making it difficult for him to open the driver's side door. Injured and trapped inside with the muddy water rising quickly, Margarito was certain he was going to die. Shaking with fear, he was at a loss about what to do.
On the road right behind Margarito were a delivery worker named Steve and his nephew Mike, who were on the way to deliver furniture to customers in the countryside. They witnessed the horrible incident, and when Margarito's truck came to rest in the middle of the overflowing creek, Steve quickly began to take action. First, he grabbed a rope from the back of his vehicle and used it to ensure he could safely approach the truck.

The M1 highway was closed down in both directions due to flooding, leaving thousands of vehicles stuck on the spot. Several hundred had been stuck for at least 30 hours since the road was cut at about 7.30 am on Monday.
Unluckily, I was one of the people who were waiting for help. There are almost 100 vehicles trapped on the road about 800 meters long. And one benefit was that there was a short road tunnel (隧道) that had provided shelter from the pouring rain as well as some lighting after nightfall. So how people have felt depended on how well they stored food. I was totally in trouble because of lacking food. I heard someone knocking on my window while I was worrying about my situation.
A man, who was driving a truck full of raw (生的) chicken leaving for downtown, opened his truck’s door and shared the chicken around by dinner time on Monday. This was a thriving community of shared resources and resourcefulness, where the truck driver dished out food that had been ordered for supermarkets. And others helped to cook the raw chicken by the tool which were found in their cars.
I took the chicken from the truck driver and, after expressing my thanks, I lost in thought: how do I cook this chicken? Just as I was looking around in confusion, a girl not far away waved to me, “Come over here, we have cooked meat.” “No, thanks,” I replied casually. But I was so hungry that I couldn’t help but walk over to her with the chicken. She took the chicken from my hand, cleaned it and put it on the grill (烧烤架). I was impressed by her masterful way. After a while, some meat was cooked and I took the meat she handed to me.

Sometimes you can count on (指望) people to do the right thing. When Dave Tally found a backpack with a laptop and an envelope full of cash in 2010, he could have considered it a very lucky day. The homeless man counted $3,300 in the bag, an amount that would make a huge difference in his life. However, as tempting (诱人的) as it was to keep the money, deep down he knew it wasn’t the right thing to do.
Back then, Tally was sleeping in the basements of local churches and trying to save up enough money to fix his only source of transportation: his bike. That money could have bought him, a brand new one. Instead, he turned the bag to his boss at the Tempe Community Action Agency, an organization that helps homeless people in the area find jobs. Tally had been working there part-time.
“Finding the envelope with the cash was just exciting. There were lots of crazy thoughts that went through my head,” Tally told ABC News at the time. “I went into the survival mode for a moment, actually more than a moment, thinking about all the things I could do for myself.”
“I beat myself up pretty hard for even thinking I would spend one cent of that person’s money,” Tally added.
After Tally made up his mind to return the bag, he faced the problem of tracking down its owner. There were no identifiers on the backpack or a way to get into the laptop without a password. But then someone suggested checking the flash drive (闪存盘) that they’d also found inside the bag to see if it held any clues (线索).
It sure did. Arizona State University student Bryan Belanger had uploaded his resume (简历) to the drive, easily providing Tally with his contact information. As it turned out, Bryan Belanger was carrying that cash because he was buying a used car from Craigslist website, and he accidentally left his belongings in a station on the way to work.
Paragraph 1:
Belanger was regretful for his carelessness and thought his backpack was gone forever.

For as long as he could remember, Jack had dreamed of being in the Olympics. For years he had worked hard to become a good skater, training and practicing. He was always getting better. Now he and his teammates, on behalf of the American skating team, were in a city of Italy for the Winter Olympics.
They were on their way to the opening parade. Athletes from all over the world were gathering to march into the Olympic stadium. Jack and his partners were laughing and joking, and their hearts were beating with joy. Everything was perfect -well, almost everything except that the sleeve (袖子) of Jack’s Olympic jacket had been torn. He loved the red, white and blue jacket, with the Olympic rings on the back. But earlier that day he had torn it by accident.
“Too bad about your jacket,” his friend Bill told him. “Oh, I don’t think anyone will notice it,” said Jack. “The audience will probably notice it,” said Bill, “They’ll probably laugh at us.”
Suddenly, a little Italian girl came up to Jack and pointed right at the tear in his sleeve. Jack smiled at her, not knowing what to do. So he said, “Uh, good morning!” The little girl smiled at him. And she kept speaking Italian words that Jack couldn’t understand, when she was pointing to his torn sleeve. Jack looked at his friends and said, “I don’t know what she wants. The little girl began pulling Jack’s jacket.
Her eyes were very bright and her long blond hair fell over the back of her winter coat. “What are you doing?” Jack asked, but he knew she couldn’t understand him. Suddenly, she started taking off her own coat. Then she looked up at him. “She wants you to take off your jacket!” Bill said. “Oh, I get it, said Jack.” She wants to try it on. Sure, here you go.”
He took off the jacket and handed it to the girl. She took it. But when he raised his head again, she was running off with his jacket. “Hey!” he cried. “The little thief!” Bill shouted angrily. “She is stealing it!” Jack ran a few steps after her.

Finding Niesha’s Courage
Niesha could not forget the way she had frozen in front of the class today. Mr Roberts had divided the class into groups to do presentations. Today had been Niesha’s turn. However, her hands had shaken so badly that she couldn’t read her notes. Her voice had become softer even to silence. Mr Roberts kindly ended Niesha’s part of the presentation even though she had clearly not finished. He had also asked Niesha to stay after class for a moment.
“Niesha, I know you’re shy, but you worked hard on this project. I’d hate to see you give up on yourself.” Mr Roberts had hesitated, “If I give you another chance tomorrow, do you think you can find, your courage?”
Niesha had nodded, grateful for the chance. She had gone as quickly as she could to her next class. She had kept her head down and hoped the school day would end soon.
When she reached her back steps that afternoon, she could see an inviting light coming from the kitchen windows. Momma was baking.
Momma studied Niesha’s face as she came into the kitchen. “What’s wrong, Niesha?”
Tears shone in Niesha’s brown eyes. She told her the whole story. Momma was silent for a moment, her hands still busy with the cake.
“Why is it that you can talk to me about anything and everything, but you can’t talk to your class?” Momma asked. She set the timer and then said, “Let me show you something.”
Niesha followed Momma to her bedroom. There Momma showed her a book filled with newspaper clippings and pictures. In it there was a blue ribbon that said “First Place” and a picture of herself when she was very young, standing with her parents.
“I won it for public speaking. I started the school year as the shyest girl on the speech team, but I ended the year as the blue ribbon winner. It wasn’t easy because I was lacking in confidence—not sure of myself at all. I worked hard, and mostly I faced my fears. You just need to find your courage.”

I lost all my hair at age two due to alopecia (脱发). At school, I wore a wig (假发), and it made me feel very different from everyone else. Despite this, I found comfort in sports. I loved playing basketball and was good at it. Every day after school, I would race home and play basketball in my driveway for hours. When I played, I didn’t think about my alopecia or my bald head. Instead, I thought about who I wanted to become and what I wanted to achieve.
As I got better at basketball, people started to notice me for my skills. I became known as the girl who was good at basketball. I focused all my time and energy on becoming the best basketball player I could be. I had big dreams and was determined not to let anything, including my alopecia, hold me back.
In junior high school, I had a great career and broke many school records. When I got to senior high school, I met Mr Smith, the best teacher I had ever had. He was very outgoing and seemed to understand how I felt. However, I still didn’t feel comfortable talking about my alopecia and just wanted to be like everyone else. The only thing that made me happy was playing basketball and improving my skills. It helped me forget about my alopecia and made my classmates respect me.
One day, I heard that our school team was choosing new members. I signed up and was excited to have a chance to show my skills. I trained harder than ever. But before the selection day, I heard someone had known my secret about alopecia.
Even though I was worried, I knew that basketball had given me the strength and confidence to face any challenge. I was ready to show everyone what I could do, no matter what they thought about my hair.

【答案】参考范文:
The little boy stood his ground, determined to pay for the limping puppy. He looked at the store owner with unwavering confidence and replied, “Sir, I understand that this puppy may not be able to run and play like the others. He may not be perfect, but that doesn’t make him any less deserving of a loving home. Moved by the boy’s determination and compassion, the store owner softened his stance. With a smile, he nodded and said, “You’re right. Every creature deserves a chance to be loved. I will gladly sell him to you.”
Overjoyed, the little boy handed over his $2.37 to the store owner. From that moment on, he became the proud owner of the limping puppy. With great enthusiasm, he named him Buddy, symbolizing the companionship they would share. True to his word, the little boy faithfully returned to the store each month to pay his fifty cents, determined to fulfill his promise of full payment. As time went by, Buddy proved to be an extraordinary companion, despite his physical limitations. His playful spirit shone through, and he found unique ways to enjoy life with his devoted owner.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】参考范文:
Minutes later, Axel walked closer to Levi. Axel picked Levi up and encouraged him to hold on to the end. Placing an encouraging hand at his competitor’s back, Axel remained with Levi for the remainder of the race. They advanced side by side, with eyes looking at the finish line. They even sang a song to cheer each other up. Eventually, the two crossed the finish line within seconds of one another. Axel even made sure Levi went first. To their surprise, the event organizer announced that they were both winners together.
Axel gained a lot from the incident. In the following days, Axel received lots of positive comments now and then. While he might have enjoyed the praise for his kindness, for him, the best harvest was the friendship with Levi. We might not always recognize when life hands us an opportunity to help others, but when it really does, we should take action. Axel said, “I would just really hope people do the right thing.” Yes, we should do that, not for others, but for ourselves.

After almost a year of practicing and training, I tried out for the team again.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】I just shook my head and went into my room. I thought hard and realized that nobody was going to give me a place on that team. I would have to earn it. Having decided to work toward my goal of making the team, I biked to the gym near my school every day after school and trained for two hours. There were moments when I didn't think I could keep on going, but I powered through it.
After almost a year of practicing and training, I tried out for the team again. “Believe in yourself,” I said to myself. “Hard work pays off.” After the tryout, I felt confident and congratulated myself. Regardless of the outcome, I knew that I had worked hard and learned something about mental toughness. The next day, I found out I made the team. Seeing my name printed in large bold letters, I felt as though all my dreams came true. The greater the effort, the sweeter the reward, and by making the team, I had officially made a turnaround.

【答案】One possible version:
Suddenly, the doorbell rang and Peggy rushed to answer it, calling that it must be Santa Claus. Then I heard a man talking to her. A slight feeling of doubt swept over me, so I went to the door. There was a delivery man handing a large package to my girl whose arms had been full. “It can’t be ours,” I said. “This must be a mistake.” But he rechecked the name, saying that it was for me. Peggy and I took the package in, exchanging confused looks. I was at a loss what to do next. What a surprise! Who could be the warm-hearted sender?
I was still in confusion when a note attached to the package caught my eyes. It read “Thanks for returning the umbrella. Merry Christmas.” When I saw the note, all doubts were erased from my mind. It had been sent by the lady who owned the umbrella. Holding the note tightly, I couldn’t control my tears, a stream of warmth coming over me. I forgot that I only had fifteen dollars left in my pocket. As I watched Peggy unwrapping the gifts one by one on the ground, with a big grin on her face, I felt my life was full of hope again.

【答案】One possible version:
Luckily, my friend, the queen of back handsprings, kept encouraging me. She said, “It’s OK. You’ll get it. It just needs constant practice.” She reminded me that she also found it difficult in the beginning and it took her a while to get it right. Her words helped me to keep going. And so, with her help and my own determination, I kept trying again and again. I practised every day after school, and even on weekends, if I had time, I would try to practise what my friend had shown me.
One day, I finally got it right. I remember feeling a sense of achievement and joy. And then, just like that, my confidence started to grow. I started to feel like I belonged there, and that I was part of something special. I began to find the new kid and the dissatisfaction of some of the girls in the group were gone, and that I was now the confident girl who knew what she was doing. I realized that success doesn’t come easily, but with hard work and determination, anything is possible.

This conflict was going on in her mind between good and evil. she was hurrying home as fast as possible. However, before she got home, the Golden Rule sounded in her ears. Suddenly she turned around and rushed along the road with breathless speed. A few minutes later, she found herself at Mr. Thompson’s inn. He was very surprised to see her.
“Sir, you paid me two bills instead of one,” she handed him the extra note. Moved by the little girl’s honesty, Mr. Thompson pulled out a shilling and offered it to her. Susan refused the money for she didn’t want to be paid for doing right——she only wished he wouldn’t think her dishonest. Never would she forget this day through the course of her whole life.

【答案】Then I saw my classmate Janet come out of a bathroom booth (厕所隔间), tears streaming down her face. I rushed up to her and asked what was wrong. Seeing my worried look, Janet quietly said she had heard what I said about the powder. She went on explaining that she was my secret friend and would like to give me something special. She went to the flea market and saw the powder that she thought would be fancy. She had hoped I could like the gift, but it ended up embarrassing me instead. Instantly I realized that I should apologize.
Along with my apologies, I explained the reason. I sincerely told Janet that I didn’t mean what I said. I knew deep down that she just wanted to make me happy with her gift and I told her I understood. She really looked relieved after hearing my comforting explanation. Although the powder may not be what I wished, it was a thoughtful present that I knew Janet had tried her best to find. From then on, I appreciate any present I get even if it was not something I was expecting. All that matters is the thought behind it.

Next, he turned to Mike and yelled, “Give me a rock!” With the rock in hand, he hit the window over and over , but in vain. He didn’t give up easily; instead, he balanced himself, leaned back and threw the rock at the window again with all his strength. Fortunately, this time he made it — the glass broke. To his relief, it didn’t hurt Margarito, who reached out for Steve’s hand and was rescued. Without delay, the two men escaped and returned to safety.
Margarito was about to thank Steve and Mike when the mobile phone in his jacket pocket rang. With trembling hands, Margarito took out the phone and answered it. “Are you home yet? Everything’s good?” His mother’s anxious voice came over. Tears welled up in his eyes on hearing the familiar voice of concern. Margarito choked up as he explained what had happened. Hanging up the phone, he thanked Steve and Mike sincerely. Cold as the rain was, great warmth filled his heart like never before.

【答案】参考范文:
As I got the hot chicken, I was filled with gratitude. Bending my head and taking a smell of the food, I felt I was eating the most delicious food in the world. Getting out of my car, I found a great number of people, eating, talking and smiling happily. Those receiving food said “thank you” again and again to those who gave. People were talking so friendly and warmly as if they had known each other for many years. Some people even exchanged phone numbers and addresses.
I carefully wrote down the phone number of Catherine, the girl who had helped me so much during the wait. She was not that experienced in cooking, but she was very warm-hearted. I felt ashamed and touched to see her moving nimbly through the crowded traffic to help others. Finally, with the help of some firemen and traffic police, all the cars left safely. Then I called her on the phone. After a short talk, I expressed the idea of inviting her to my home for dinner. She readily agreed, and I was very happy.

_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2:
Tally said the day he found the money’s rightful owner was the day his life changed.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1:
Belanger was regretful for his carelessness and thought his backpack was gone forever. When he saw Tally with his backpack, he was so moved that he offered a cash reward which was turned down by Tally. Meanwhile, Tally’s story made the local news, and strangers began sending him cheques and seeking him out to hand him cash in person. As a result, he had more than enough to fix his bike; what’s more, he was able to use his experience to educate others and change the way people think of homeless people.
Paragraph 2:
Tally said the day he found the money’s rightful owner was the day his life changed. From then on, people kept sending him donations to the point where he was able to get his own apartment and stop sleeping in church basements.

Paragraph 1:
But in an instant, she disappeared along the crowded street. Jack was anxious; he had to attend the parade without the Olympic jacket. Twenty minutes later, they were standing with his teammates, waiting to start. Bill stood next to Jack. He could sense that Jack was worried. “It’s okay, buddy,” said Bill. Suddenly, Jack felt a pull, this time on his shirt sleeve. He looked down. It was the Italian girl. “You!” Jack burst out, and he put his hands on her shoulders so she couldn’t run away.
Paragraph 2:
The Italian girl just smiled at Jack, and in her hands was his jacket, which had already been mended. She held it up to him. Jack took it and then he understood all. The long tear in the sleeve was gone. It had been sewn perfectly. Bill was looking at the little girl, surprised. She smiled at Bill and Jack. The music began and the parade started. In the Olympic stadium, thousands of athletes marched together. There was an extra marcher in the parade on that proud day. An Italian girl rode for a while on the shoulders of Jack and then Bill.

Niesha stared at the precious blue ribbon, imaging the scene where her mother tried her best to overcome her fears and pick up her courage to stand on the stage and face the audience, giving a fantastic speech. Paragraph 2:

Though having made adequate preparations, she was still overwhelmed by great nervousness: her heart beat violently as she dragged herself to the front of the class; her face turned pale and she could hardly squeeze out any word with her absolutely blank mind. Anxiety had almost drove her crazy when suddenly, she caught sight of Mr Roberts’ smile, comforting and inspiring. She remembered her Momma’s encouraging words. “How could I let them down?” she thought to herself. Holding the blue ribbon tight in her hand, she took a deep breath, calmed herself down and gathered her courage. “Dear fellow students,” she started...

【答案】At the deepest of my sadness, Mr Smith came. He patted me on the shoulder, saying quietly, “Lindsay, you have an active attitude to realize your dream. You have won our respect.” Lowering my head, I whispered to him, “But they knew my truth. They might see me differently.” My teacher comforted me, “You can’t determine your alopecia, but you can decide your future with your excellent skills. Why not use your strength to achieve your dreams?” With blood burning through my body, I looked my teacher in the eyes and said firmly yes to him.
I decided to prove myself using my own skills. The next day, I arrived early at the playground, waiting for the beginning of the tryout. When it was my turn, I showed my high-level movements and skills smoothly to other teachers. The audience standing around burst into cheers, too. To my surprise, I was finally chosen to be a member of the school team. I couldn’t thank my teacher enough. I know it is not what I look like that makes me successful, but being an active person and always offering a smile to someone.
