Other people may have their own ideas about our
lives. We can value their advice, but we dont have to
take it to heart.
—141—
Our parents have dreams for us. They want us to
do well in school and to do whatever is necessary to
reach our highest potential. Later in life, friends may
try to set us up with their ideas of the perfect partner
or the perfect job. People close to us may have ideas
about how we should live our lives, ideas that usually
come from love and the desire for us to be happy.
Other times, they come from a place of need within
them whether it is a parent who wants us to live out
his or her dreams or a friend who wants us to play a
good role. Whatever the case,we can appreciate and
consider those peoples advice, but ultimately we must
follow our own guidance.
There may come a time when all the suggestions

the people we love dont agree on our judgment,

we make for our lives by making us doubt ourselves
before weve had a chance to decide what we want.
We can tell our loved ones how much we appreciate
their thoughts and ideas, but that we need to live our
own lives and make our own decisions. We can
explain that they need to let us learn from our own
experiences. When they see that we are happy with
our lives and the path we are taking to reach our
goals, they can make sure that all we need them to do
is to share in our joy.

As I was walking home,a boy seemed to be
singing a song in a very low voice, walking in front of
me and carrying some of the same high school books I
had with me. I caught up to him,and said “Hello”. I
could tell he was startled, and dropped one of his
books. I picked it up and as I handed it to him,he
said “Thank you.” in a strange way, like with a
strong accent.
We soon began walking together and talking. It
turns out he was in my science class, and I didnt

His name was Ahmad, and his family had just

home because war had broken out,and it wasnt safe
there anymore. They left with only what they could
carry. His family was happy to feel safe, and they got
used to American culture quickly. They seemed
pleased that Ahmad had brought a friend home to meet
them.
And as my friendship with Ahmad has
continued,I now realize that the world is so much
bigger than I thought!I also realize that your friends
dont have to be just like you. Differences make the

How to improve yourself
Watch your words.
1. Choose your words carefully,as words once spoken cannot be taken back. You should always
think before you speak, because speaking in a rude manner may hurt people. Try to be soft with your words,as
that will surely make people like you,and people,in turn, will return it in the same way.
Company matters.
There is a famous quote that youre judged by the company you keep. 2. Yet being in the wrong
company will always land you in trouble, and make you perform wrong deeds.
3.
Humans are social animals, and they need to stay connected to people around them. Whenever we face
troubles, after our parents it is our friends who help and support us without laying any terms and conditions. We
should always try to be beside a friend who needs our help.
Dont jump to conclusions.
You should never make conclusions about a person based on few things that you see. Also, dont listen to
what others say about a particular person. Give some time and judge the person on your own. 4.
Be organized.
5. The state of your lifestyle reflects how organized you are. A messy person is never liked by people.
Being organized creates stability in your lifestyle, thereby helping you to live a disciplined life.
A. Be helpful.
B. Appreciate others.
C. Managing yourself is very important.
D. Always think positively however bad a situation you are in.
E. If youre in good company, you are certain to learn all good values.
F. Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles.
