①Before 4th May, China’s National Youth Day This year, great writer Mo Yan wrote a letter to young people. Here is a part of the letter:
②What should we do when having a tough time in life? I can’t give you a textbook answer, but I’d like to share two stories of my childhood. They are about A BOOK that brought me knowledge and A MAN that brought me strength.
③The book is Xinhua Dictionary. My family lived a tough life, and I had to drop out of school. Back then, children of my age were at school, learning and playing games together, but I didn’t have that luxury (奢华). The good thing is that I got a copy of the Xinhua Dictionary, and it was all I had. Most of the words I knew didn’t come from school. Instead, I learned them by reading the Xinhua Dictionary, which got me through the tough time and prepared me for my writing career.
④The man is my grandpa. One day, I got caught in bad weather with Grandpa when we were on the way home with a handcart (手推车) of grass. There were thick clouds overhead, the sky was getting dark, and a heavy storm was coming. The wind got stronger and stronger. I was pushed down to the ground and couldn’t move. Grandpa, however, hung on to the handcart. It seemed that he had no plans to run for cover—he decided to fight against the wind. Then in the strong wind, Grandpa’s legs were shaking, but he didn’t move back. Nor did the handcart. Although the grass was long gone at the end of the day, we still had the handcart.
⑤So, my dear young friends, I want you to remember that when you are having a tough time in life, don’t lose heart. Never let life knock you down. Even in the hardest situation, there is hope that encourages us to move forward.

阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)
Kelly didn’t really know why or how it had started, but a rumor (谣言) spread in the school. Kids talked about it quietly when she walked down the halls, others laughed and pointed fingers, and some wrote notes in class. The rumor was that “Kelly only gets good grades because she cheats on exams. ” But that was not true.
Kelly studied hard. She spent a lot of time studying. She even missed friends’ birthday parties. She always answered questions in class, finished homework on time, and never missed classes. Sometimes, she felt tired from trying so hard. She tried to be nice to everyone, but now this made her feel hurt and confused.
In science class, students were put into teams for an experiment. Kelly was paired with Sophie, who had been mean to her since she missed her birthday party. Kelly doubted Sophie might have started the rumors.
At first, they worked in silence, but then Sophie asked, “Are you going to cheat on this too?”
“I don’t cheat,” replied Kelly, sad and angry.
“Sure you don’t,” Sophie mocked (讥讽道) . “You just want to be the best.”
Kelly felt tears in her eyes. “I care about lots of things!”
“You don’t care about anyone, ” said Sophie.
Hurt as she felt Kelly focused on their task. By the end, the experiment was a success. Afterward, Sophie said, “Maybe I was wrong about you.”
Days later, the rumor faded (逐渐消失) as students saw how hard Kelly studied. Some apologized, and even Sophie invited Kelly to her birthday party.

Have you watched livestreaming (直播) shows given by virtual hosts? They look like real people, but in fact, they’re just digital humans created by AI companies.
Xmov is such an AI company in China. Set up in 2018, it has created lots of great digital humans. Xmov is the first company in China to create a virtual star named Ling, who is always in a traditional Chinese costume. Last year, the company also used a 3D AI host to manifest their new products to over 300 guests at an event.
Now, many companies are using virtual hosts to sell their products. For one thing, it costs much less than building a traditional livestreaming room and team. For another, virtual hosts can work 24 hours a day.
Virtual humans are used in more industries. In the near future, we may see them act as teachers, guides, and so on. It will not only improve many industries, but also allow human workers to put more energy into creative work instead of doing boring tasks.
The AI technology is great without doubt, but it can’t completely take humans’ place. For example, it will be difficult for digital humans to build trust with customers like real people. Also, the use of digital workers may lead to some safety problems if they’re not well managed and controlled.

③The book is Xinhua Dictionary. My family lived a tough life, and I had to drop out of school. Back then, children of my age were at school, learning and playing games together, but I didn’t have that luxury (奢华).
