67. Jim stared at the photo fondly, with tears welling up in his eyes. Memories flashed through Jim’s mind. It had been more than a year since his wife’s death and hardly had he mentioned her anymore. That day, though, he gazed at the photo affectionately and declared emotionally, “I still love her”. Sensing Jim’s sadness, Pony sent hearts to Jim on the screen and comforted him. Uplifted by Pony’s loving remarks, Jim petted Pony’ screen with his finger sending hearts floating up from the dog’s head again. Pony responded with its tail wagging cheerfully. Arlyn sat in silence, with an illusion of slipping back to the old happy days.
Seeing the close bond between Pony and her dad, Arlyn felt a relief. She was amazed at Pony’s heart-warming service and her dad’s fondness for Pony. Pony was more than just a virtual companion; rather, he had become a member of the family, a loyal friend who had helped them through the tough times. With time going by, Arlyn noticed the improvement in her father’s cognitive ability and mood, and he got more engaged in conversations. Arlyn was grateful to Pony. Knowing that Pony was not a substitute for human interaction, she resolved to cherish every moment with her dad, for the presence of loved ones was crucial.

It was early morning in Sera Community Conservancy in Northern Kenya. Birds calling was the only sounds for miles as a team led by Kenyan wildlife veterinarian (兽医) Dr. Mukami Ruoro-Oundo carefully tracked white rhinos (犀牛).
Once common in the area, by the early 1990s Northern Kenya’s rhino population was reduced by illegal hunting. In 2015, Sera Conservancy established East Africa’s first community rhino sanctuary (保护区) with the introduction of 10 endangered black rhinos. Today, that number has grown to 21 black rhinos, and in February 2024, they were joined by four white rhinos from the nearby Lewa Conservancy.
As she searched on foot, Dr. Ruoro-Oundo discovered two of the female white rhinos. One, called Sarah, looked like she was expecting a baby. But as the vet got closer she noticed something was wrong with Sarah.
Worried about getting too close to the rhinos, she turned to technology. Each of the four white rhinos was fitted with a GPS tag in its ears. Through Sarah’s tag, Dr. Ruoro-Oundo realized that Sarah had hardly moved in hours, suggesting her condition was deteriorating . By using a drone (无人机) to take photos of her, the team was able to make sure that Sarah needed help badly.
“We noticed she had an infection (感染) near her tail. It was quite serious,” says Dr. Ruoro-Oundo. “She was in a lot of pain because she could not lower her tail or lie down.”
Dr. Ruoro-Oundo and her team took action quickly. They gave her medicine and cared for her for days, which helped save not only Sarah’s life but that of her unborn baby too.
For Dr. Ruoro-Oundo, the key to safeguarding Kenya’s wildlife is a balance between community and technology. “I think you will not be able to separate technology from wildlife protection in the future,” she says. “Human effort can never be removed, but technology will always come to help where we cannot reach.”
24.What can we learn about Sera Conservancy’s rhinos?
A.Their number dropped in 2023. B.They started to disappear in 2015.
C.There were 25 rhinos by February 2024. D.There are more white rhinos than black ones.
25.What did Dr. Ruoro-Oundo notice when she discovered Sarah?
A.Sarah was not in a healthy condition. B.Sarah was too weak to feed herself.
C.Sarah was taking care of a baby rhino. D.Sarah was not getting along with the other rhinos.
26.What does the underlined word “deteriorating” in paragraph 4 mean?
A.Becoming worse. B.Getting improved.
C.Developing slowly. D.Remaining unchanged.
27.What does Dr. Ruoro-Oundo think of technology’s role in wildlife protection?
A.It is far from enough to protect wildlife. B.It should be kept an eye on when used.
C.It will take the place of humans. D.It is a good helping hand.

In a remote part of Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest, river transport is far more common than road travel. Here, boats move along the Wichimi River, a wide channel that snakes through the thick plants, and powering the silent boats is the Ecuadorian sunshine.
The boats have been provided by Kara Solar, a non-profit organization based in the region. The Achuar here are responsible for fixing, running and maintaining the boats — the solar boats are shaping daily life for the community by offering transport for education, health services and eco-tourism.
For years, many Achuar have used gasoline-powered boats on the river, but the oil must be flown in by plane from Ecuador’ s capital, Quito, making it more expensive and adding to the carbon emissions (碳排放) connected with its use. “Gasoline motors use a lot of oil and pollute the river,” said Angel Wasump, Kara Solar’s director of operations and a member of the Achuar community. “Since the solar boats arrived, families have been giving up these motors completely,” he added.
Formally launched in 2018, Kara Solar is staffed by members of the Achua r community. According to the organization, the boats operating in Ecuador have completed over 300 trips in total, carrying over 1,000 passengers and traveling over 450 kilometers per month. The most common uses are transporting local children to and from school and providing wildlife tours for eco-tourists.
As well as reducing carbon emissions and pollution, the silent boats mean eco-tourists can get a closer view of wildlife without scaring it away. “The boat serves as a symbol of what eco-friendliness could look like,” said Wasump. “It’s like a return to what’s most important in Achuar culture. These boats have represented a way for us to reconnect with this vision of what development could look like.”
28.What can we learn about the Achuar from the first two paragraphs?
A.They mostly earn their living by fishing.
B.They depend much on boats in their lives.
C.They are enthusiastic about voluntary work.
D.They have little contact with the outside world.
29.What is a reason for the introduction of the solar boats?
A.They travel faster. B.They are easy to operate.
C.They are cost-effective. D.They carry more passengers.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The features of the solar boats.
B.The applications of the solar boats.
C.The effects of the solar boats on people’s lives.
D.The advantages of the solar boats over traditional ones.
31.What does Wasump intend to stress in the last paragraph?
A.Cultural difference. B.Community spirit.
C.Environmental awareness. D.Technological development.

Traditional methods used by literary scholars to determine authorship often rely on subjective factors such as handwriting analysis or personal knowledge about an author’s life, which can lead to inaccuracies and mistakes.
However, AI algorithms (算法) can analyze large amounts of text data to identify patterns and features unique to each author’s writing style. One example of this is the use of n-grams, which are series of words that appear together in a text. By analyzing the frequency and distribution of specific n-grams in a text, AI algorithms can identify an author’s characteristic writing style with a high degree of accuracy.
Stylometric analysis can also be used to detect illegal literary copying or misattributions (考证错误). By comparing the linguistic patterns and stylistic features of a disputed (有争议的) text to known works by various authors, AI algorithms can determine whether the disputed text is more likely to have been written by one author or another, or whether it may be a new discovery altogether.
Stylistic features obtained through AI-generated n-grams and other techniques can be used not only to determine authorship but also for critical purposes. It is possible not only to test theories about the emergence or change of particular styles over time but also to provide new insights into broader trends in the development of literature. For instance, researchers at the University of Santiago de Compostela used stylometric analysis to prove that two previously unknown 16th-century Spanish novels were actually written by Miguel de Cervantes, the famous author of Don Quixote. It’s a discovery that would have taken years using traditional literary analysis methods.
While some critics argue that AI-led stylometric analyses undermine the human role in literary analysis and interpretation, supporters point out that such analyses expand our understanding of literature by providing objective evidence for subjective opinions.
According to a 2020 report published in Nature Communications, applying AI techniques in literary analysis has led to the identification of previously unknown works by famous authors like William Shakespeare with a success rate of over 75%.
32.What is the focus of the “n-grams” method in research work?
A.The author’s life experience. B.The organization of sentences.
C.The author’s handwriting style. D.The occurence of certain words.
33.What is a precondition for using stylometric analysis?
A.The published works of various authors. B.The newly-discovered works of the authors.
C.A large collection of disputed works. D.All the works of contemporary authors.
34.How does the author make a point in paragraph 4?
A.By making a comparison. B.By referring to specific data.
C.By offering an example. D.By introducing a theory.
35.What is the last paragraph used to demonstrate?
A.The great progress in AI technology. B.The accuracy of AI algorithms.
C.The status of Shakespeare in literature. D.The wide employment of AI techniques.

On every smartphone there sits a tracker’s paradise (乐园) of location data ready to be shared. 36 And this tech is marketed as convenient, not frightening.
What is an acceptable level of online surveillance (监视)? I had assumed we all agreed that the ideal was none. 37 A quick enquiry on my friends found that those who were, like me, in their 40s and older either had no idea they could use their phone in this way or had relatively little interest in doing so. But friends a decade or so younger all seem to be tracking one another at will. They don’t find the idea of monitoring or being monitored in this way upsetting. They say it makes them feel safer.
38 It is just that they are realistic about the privacy that is available. They know that if you own a smartphone and don’t want to disable useful things like maps, then your location is already being watched. If app creators, smartphone makers and ad companies are already tracking your location, then why not share the information with people you know?
If you want to start tracking the people you know, then there are some rules involved. It’s fine to use tracking to check that a friend has got home safely at the end of a night out, for example, but not to surprise them on the street. And think carefully about whom you share data with. 39
Location tracking as a safety measure, particularly for elderly parents and children, is appealing. 40 Once you grow comfortable sharing your location with your family and friends, perhaps one day you’ll be happy to share it with your employer or even government agencies.
A.It is for family and close friends only, not new dates.
B.But the truth is how popular it is depends on your age.
C.Location sharing has been around for more than a decade.
D.The risk is that if you do it too often, it will be hard to turn around.
E.After all, no one will find it comfortable to be watched all the time.
F.This is not because they are blind to the importance of online privacy.
G.Location tracking is so precise that it can locate one person in a crowd.

“A nursing home would be safer, Dad,” Arlyn told her father, Jim.
“No way,” Jim interrupted. His wife passed away just a year before. At 91, he still wanted to remain in the cottage he and his wife had built.
Jim started experiencing an early sign of Alzheimer’s disease. Arlyn found his decline was indeed all-consuming. However, she herself was in her late sixties; her house was a 40-minute drive from the cottage. One day, when she read about a new eldercare service called Care. coach, it fueled her interest. For about $200 a month, a computerized avatar (头像) (controlled remotely by a human caregiver) would watch over a home-bound person 24 hours a day. She signed up immediately.
A week later, a tablet arrived. Following the instructions, Arlyn uploaded dozens of family pictures. Then an animated dog appeared on the screen. She presented the tablet to Jim, pointing to the screen pet, and said excitedly, “Here Dad. You have a new companion.” Jim, doubtful about the dog’s service, knew he had to learn how to get along with the dog before Alzheimer’s took hold.
Within a week, Jim and his dog, whom he named Pony, settled into a routine. Every 15 minutes or so, Pony would look for Jim calling his name if he was out of view. Sometimes Jim would “pet” to awake the sleeping Pony on screen. Pony reminded Jim which caretaker would be visiting to do the tasks: preparing meals, driving him to a senior center, etc. Pony would read poetry aloud or discuss the news. When Pony praised Jim’s sweater, Jim repaid by petting Pony’s screen with his finger sending hearts floating up from the dog’s head. One evening when Arlyn came to visit her father as usual, she was amazed to find that Pony was holding up a photo of her late mum to her dad between its paws.

It was early morning in Sera Community Conservancy in Northern Kenya. Birds calling was the
only sounds for miles as a team led by Kenyan wildlife veterinarian (兽医) Dr. Mukami Ruoro-Oundo
carefully tracked white rhinos (犀牛).
Once common in the area, by the early 1990s Northern Kenya’s rhino population was reduced by
illegal hunting. In 2015, Sera Conservancy established East Africa’s first community rhino sanctuary
(保护区 ) with the introduction of 10 endangered black rhinos. Today, that number has grown to 21
black rhinos, and in February 2024, they were joined by four white rhinos from the nearby Lewa
Conservancy.
As she searched on foot, Dr. Ruoro-Oundo discovered two of the female white rhinos. One,
called Sarah, looked like she was expecting a baby. But as the vet got closer she noticed something was
wrong with Sarah.
Worried about getting too close to the rhinos, she turned to technology. Each of the four white
rhinos was fitted with a GPS tag in its ears. Through Sarah’s tag, Dr. Ruoro-Oundo realized that Sarah
had hardly moved in hours, suggesting her condition was deteriorating . By using a drone (无人机) to
take photos of her, the team was able to make sure that Sarah needed help badly.
“We noticed she had an infection ( 感 染 ) near her tail. It was quite serious,” says Dr.
Ruoro-Oundo. “She was in a lot of pain because she could not lower her tail or lie down.”
Dr. Ruoro-Oundo and her team took action quickly. They gave her medicine and cared for her for
days, which helped save not only Sarah’s life but that of her unborn baby too.
For Dr. Ruoro-Oundo, the key to safeguarding Kenya’s wildlife is a balance between community
and technology. “I think you will not be able to separate technology from wildlife protection in the
future,” she says. “Human effort can never be removed, but technology will always come to help where
we cannot reach.”

A.Becoming worse. B.Getting improved.

C.Developing slowly. D.Remaining unchanged.
27.What does Dr. Ruoro-Oundo think of technology’s role in wildlife protection?

In a remote part of Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest, river transport is far more common than road
travel. Here, boats move along the Wichimi River, a wide channel that snakes through the thick plants,
and powering the silent boats is the Ecuadorian sunshine.
The boats have been provided by Kara Solar, a non-profit organization based in the region. The
Achuar here are responsible for fixing, running and maintaining the boats — the solar boats are shaping
daily life for the community by offering transport for education, health services and eco-tourism.
For years, many Achuar have used gasoline-powered boats on the river, but the oil must be flown
in by plane from Ecuador’ s capital, Quito, making it more expensive and adding to the carbon
emissions (碳排放) connected with its use. “Gasoline motors use a lot of oil and pollute the river,” said
Angel Wasump, Kara Solar’s director of operations and a member of the Achuar community. “Since the
solar boats arrived, families have been giving up these motors completely,” he added.
Formally launched in 2018, Kara Solar is staffed by members of the Achua r community.
According to the organization, the boats operating in Ecuador have completed over 300 trips in total,
carrying over 1,000 passengers and traveling over 450 kilometers per month. The most common uses
are transporting local children to and from school and providing wildlife tours for eco-tourists.
As well as reducing carbon emissions and pollution, the silent boats mean eco-tourists can get a
closer view of wildlife without scaring it away. “The boat serves as a symbol of what eco-friendliness
could look like,” said Wasump. “It’s like a return to what’s most important in Achuar culture. These
boats have represented a way for us to reconnect with this vision of what development could look like.”

Traditional methods used by literary scholars to determine authorship often rely on subjective
factors such as handwriting analysis or personal knowledge about an author’s life, which can lead to
inaccuracies and mistakes.
However, AI algorithms (算法) can analyze large amounts of text data to identify patterns and
features unique to each author’s writing style. One example of this is the use of n-grams, which are
series of words that appear together in a text. By analyzing the frequency and distribution of specific
n-grams in a text, AI algorithms can identify an author’s characteristic writing style with a high degree
of accuracy.
Stylometric analysis can also be used to detect illegal literary copying or misattributions (考证错
误). By comparing the linguistic patterns and stylistic features of a disputed (有争议的) text to known
works by various authors, AI algorithms can determine whether the disputed text is more likely to have
been written by one author or another, or whether it may be a new discovery altogether.
Stylistic features obtained through AI-generated n-grams and other techniques can be used not
only to determine authorship but also for critical purposes. It is possible not only to test theories about
the emergence or change of particular styles over time but also to provide new insights into broader
trends in the development of literature. For instance, researchers at the University of Santiago de
Compostela used stylometric analysis to prove that two previously unknown 16th-century Spanish
novels were actually written by Miguel de Cervantes, the famous author of Don Quixote. It’s a
discovery that would have taken years using traditional literary analysis methods.
While some critics argue that AI-led stylometric analyses undermine the human role in literary
analysis and interpretation, supporters point out that such analyses expand our understanding of
literature by providing objective evidence for subjective opinions.
According to a 2020 report published in Nature Communications, applying AI techniques in
literary analysis has led to the identification of previously unknown works by famous authors like
William Shakespeare with a success rate of over 75%.
32.What is the focus of the “n-grams” method in research work?
A.The author’s life experience. B.The organization of sentences.
C.The author’s handwriting style. D.The occurence of certain words.
33.What is a precondition for using stylometric analysis?
试卷第 4页,共 5页
A.The published works of various authors. B.The newly-discovered works of the authors.
C.A large collection of disputed works. D.All the works of contemporary authors.
34.How does the author make a point in paragraph 4?
A.By making a comparison. B.By referring to specific data.
C.By offering an example. D.By introducing a theory.
35.What is the last paragraph used to demonstrate?
A.The great progress in AI technology. B.The accuracy of AI algorithms.

Forget privacy, young internet users want to be tracked
On every smartphone there sits a tracker’s paradise (乐园) of location data ready to be shared.
36 And this tech is marketed as convenient, not frightening.
What is an acceptable level of online surveillance (监视)? I had assumed we all agreed that the
ideal was none. 37 A quick enquiry on my friends found that those who were, like me, in
their 40s and older either had no idea they could use their phone in this way or had relatively little
interest in doing so. But friends a decade or so younger all seem to be tracking one another at will. They
don’t find the idea of monitoring or being monitored in this way upsetting. They say it makes them feel
safer.
38 It is just that they are realistic about the privacy that is available. They know that if
you own a smartphone and don’t want to disable useful things like maps, then your location is already
being watched. If app creators, smartphone makers and ad companies are already tracking your location,
then why not share the information with people you know?
If you want to start tracking the people you know, then there are some rules involved. It’s fine to
use tracking to check that a friend has got home safely at the end of a night out, for example, but not to
surprise them on the street. And think carefully about whom you share data with. 39
Location tracking as a safety measure, particularly for elderly parents and children, is appealing.
40 Once you grow comfortable sharing your location with your family and friends, perhaps one
day you’ll be happy to share it with your employer or even government agencies.

Whether you live around the corner or across the world, using the right social media technology

67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“A nursing home would be safer, Dad,” Arlyn told her father, Jim.
“No way,” Jim interrupted. His wife passed away just a year before. At 91, he still wanted to
remain in the cottage he and his wife had built.
Jim started experiencing an early sign of Alzheimer’s disease. Arlyn found his decline was indeed
all-consuming. However, she herself was in her late sixties; her house was a 40-minute drive from the
cottage. One day, when she read about a new eldercare service called Care. coach, it fueled her interest.
For about $200 a month, a computerized avatar (头像 ) (controlled remotely by a human caregiver)
would watch over a home-bound person 24 hours a day. She signed up immediately.
A week later, a tablet arrived. Following the instructions, Arlyn uploaded dozens of family
pictures. Then an animated dog appeared on the screen. She presented the tablet to Jim, pointing to the
screen pet, and said excitedly, “Here Dad. You have a new companion.” Jim, doubtful about the dog’s
service, knew he had to learn how to get along with the dog before Alzheimer’s took hold.
Within a week, Jim and his dog, whom he named Pony, settled into a routine. Every 15 minutes
or so, Pony would look for Jim calling his name if he was out of view. Sometimes Jim would “pet” to
awake the sleeping Pony on screen. Pony reminded Jim which caretaker would be visiting to do the
tasks: preparing meals, driving him to a senior center, etc. Pony would read poetry aloud or discuss the
news. When Pony praised Jim’s sweater, Jim repaid by petting Pony’s screen with his finger sending
hearts floating up from the dog’s head. One evening when Arlyn came to visit her father as usual, she
was amazed to find that Pony was holding up a photo of her late mum to her dad between its paws.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150左右;
