I had lost my wallet. It had money in it, but far more importantly, it had two tickets to the 2022 FIFA World Cup!
My aunt gave me the two tickets as a special present. She worked for the organizers and she got the tickets as a special gift. What was I going to say to her?
I searched for weeks ... but nothing. I didn’t have the heart to tell my aunt that I had lost the tickets. But when she said excitedly to me ‘Only two months left to the World Cup!’, I felt it was terrible.
With less than a week until the World Cup was to start, I thought it was time for me to confess (坦白) to my aunt.
I went over to her place and we sat down. I guess she could see that I was upset. “Aunt Kathy, there’s something I need to tell you...” She stopped me. “Good, but before you do, I want to know whether you know anybody else who may want some tickets to the big game? I have two more.”
“This solves my problem!” I thought. I was frightened so I didn’t tell the truth (真相). “Sure,” I said. “I can find someone to give them to.” I took them, but as my hand touched them and I saw my aunt’s smiling face, I could not lie any longer.
“Aunt Kathy, I lost the first tickets,” I confessed. She looked at me with an understanding smile and said, “I know. Your mother told me. It’s all right. I know how bad you felt about it. It was an accident. It could happen to anyone.”
I could not believe that my aunt was so good to me. She found two more tickets and pretended not to know that I had lost the first tickets.
“Now you can still take a friend to the World Cup! Make sure it’s your best friend!” she laughed. I looked at my aunt and said, “It is you. I’m taking you.”

A 10-year-old boy decided to learn judo though he had lost his left arm in a car accident. The boy was doing well, so he couldn’t understand why, after three months of training, the master had taught him only one move.
“Master,” the boy finally asked, “shouldn’t I be learning more moves?” “This is the only move you know, but this is the only move you’ll ever need to know,” the teacher answered.
Several months later, the teacher took the boy to his first competition. Surprising himself, the boy easily won his first two matches. The third match proved to be more difficult, but after some time, his opponent (对手) became impatient and charged; the boy skillfully used his one move to win the match. Still amazed by his success, the boy was now in the final.

He was going to stop the match when the teacher appeared. “No,” the teacher said, “Let him continue.” A short time after the match carried on, his opponent made a careless mistake. At once, the boy used his move to pin (压住) him. The boy won the match and the competition.
On the way home, the boy asked the teacher what was really in his mind. “Why could I win the competition with only one move?” The teacher answered. “First, you’ve mastered one of the most difficult throws in judo. Second, your opponent can only attack your left arm to win you.”

This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. Soon after the match started, the boy seemed to lose. Thinking that the boy might get hurt, the judge called a time-out.

This time, his opponent was bigger, stronger, and more experienced. Soon after the match started, the boy seemed to lose. Thinking that the boy might get hurt, the judge called a time-out. Should teenagers do chores?
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】
Should teenagers do chores?
The first cartoon shows that children do not like to do housework and feel bored; the second cartoon shows that children like to do housework and work actively. Now many students don’t like chores at home. There are two main reasons. On the one hand, they think it’s their parents’ job to do chores at home. On the other hand, they think doing chores takes up their time for study. But I think we should help do chores at home because our parents are busy with their work and often tired after work. I often do chores at home, such as making the bed, watering flowers, cleaning the rooms, taking out the rubbish and doing the dishes. I think doing chores is relaxing. I also feel great to help my parents.
For teenagers it’s not enough to get good grades at school. It’s necessary for us to learn to be independent. The earlier we learn to be independent, the better it is for our future.
