Mei Leaf Teahouse: health and happiness in a cup
After many good years in traditional Chinese medicine, Don and his team started the Mei Leaf Teahouse in 2025. The new teahouse opened beside their busy traditional Chinese medicine clinic (诊所). At Mei Leaf, it’s about health, happiness and just relaxing. They strongly believe that tea can help you feel good.
With this idea, Mei Leaf doesn’t make kung fu tea for you. Instead, you have to make it yourself. This way of making tea, which is very different from how we usually make a cup of tea in the UK, is nice. You can take a break and enjoy the calm process.
The teahouse is also a tea shop with many different kinds of teas. There are loose-leaf teas and traditional tea cakes. All of these teas are got by Don and his team straight from farmers and makers in Asia.
Today we are all so busy that it’s very easy to just put a teabag in some hot water and keep on with our day. So, why not take some time out for yourself and try a real Chinese tea experience at Mei Leaf in Camden?

Today is the 27th anniversary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (香港特别行政区). I had an amazing experience visiting the Hong Kong Garrison of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (中国人民解放军驻香港部队) with my family. We were lucky to get tickets to the army camp, and we were so excited that we woke up very early to catch the bus. I didn’t know it then, but this day would have a big influence on me. The most unforgettable part of the day was the flag-raising ceremony during the opening. I watched as soldiers from the Navy, Army, and Air Force walked with pride. As the flag went up, March of the Volunteers (《义勇军进行曲》) played, and I felt a strong connection to my country. It was then that I realized how much these soldiers work to protect our home.
Another great part was seeing the soldiers show off their special skills. They moved very quickly, following orders perfectly. The “hunter -catching” game, where they avoided obstacles (障碍物), showed how well they were trained. It was great to see their hard work. The last event, where armored vehicles (装甲车) drove around, was a powerful reminder of China’s technological progress. The loud engines and machines made me feel proud of our nation’s strength.
As we went home, I kept thinking about what I saw. The soldiers made me think about my responsibilities. If they can give their best to protect our country, I should also try my best in everything I do. Visiting the Hong Kong Garrison of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army wasn’t a fun trip; it taught me about pride, responsibility, and the importance of doing our part for our country’s future.

“I can’t afford to play badminton now.” Many badminton lovers are now saying this because of the surprising price rise of badminton shuttlecocks (羽毛球).
A bottle of high-quality shuttlecocks, which sold for 81 yuan last November, has risen to 149 yuan. What has led to the price growth? Shuttlecock makers say the simple reason for this is the growing prices of the feathers of ducks and geese. Duck and goose numbers in China have gone down since 2020, increasing the price. According to Yangcheng Evening News, the numbers of ducks and geese kept were 4.218 billion and 515 million in 2023. However, the numbers were 4.878 billion and 634 million in 2019.
Also, only feathers from special kinds of ducks or geese are hard enough and can be used to make shuttlecocks. One shuttlecock needs 16 feathers, but one goose or duck can only provide up to 14 such feathers. At the same time, making shuttlecocks is not a simple task. The feathers need to be cleaned, whitened, and disinfected (给……消毒). This is to keep away bacteria (细菌).
Next, a machine puts the feathers into the shuttlecock’s head. The shuttlecock is then glued, stitched (缝) and tested. This already makes shuttlecocks expensive.
Since feather shuttlecocks are expensive, can we use man-made ones instead? Carbon fiber (碳纤维) shuttles are one choice. They are about 10 yuan each, and they last longer and fly better. However, controlling them during hits is much harder compared to natural ones. So, many players are not ready to say goodbye to feather shuttlecocks just yet.
16. If you buy two bottles of high-quality shuttlecocks, how much do you have to pay more now?
A. ¥162. B. ¥298. C. ¥68. D. ¥136.
17. Which of the following sentences is TRUE?
A. The process of making shuttlecocks is complicated.
B. In 2019, the number of geese kept in China was 4.878 billion.
C. Many players prefer to choose carbon fiber shuttles rather than feather ones.
D. The proper feathers from a duck or a goose can only be used to make one shuttlecock.
18. How to make a shuttlecock? Put these sentences in order.
①Put the feathers into the shuttlecock’s head by a machine.
②Glue, stitch and test the shuttlecock.
③Choose proper feathers from special kinds of ducks or geese.
④Clean, whiten and disinfect the feathers.
A. ④③②① B. ③①④② C. ③④①② D. ④③①②
19. Which one is NOT the advantages of carbon fiber shuttles?
A. They can fly better. B. The price of them is low.
C. They can be used for a longer time. D. It is easy to control them when playing.
20. From where can we read this passage?
A. Wonderful School Life. B. People’s Daily. C. Animal World. D. Chinese Doctor.

第二节: 信息摘录(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,然后在文后表格内完成内容摘要,每空不超过3个词。
Have you ever been embarrassed because you forgot something important? Perhaps you’ve had experiences like these. You began to introduce the guest speaker to the audience, but then paused (暂停) in horror. You had forgotten her name. You hid jewelry (珠宝) when you went on vacation. When you came back, you couldn’t remember where you’d put it.
Most people have something in common. They’re unaware of a simple but important fact: Memory can be developed. If you just accept that fact, the following will show you how to develop memory.
Relax. If you worry about remembering something, you’ll forget it. Relaxing will enhance your awareness and ability to concentrate. Take deep breaths and tell yourself that you have all the time in the world to remember.
Avoid being negative. If you keep telling yourself that your memory is bad, your mind will come to believe it and you won’t remember things. When you forget something, don’t say, “Oh, I need to have my brain rewired (重新接线).”
To improve your memory, you’ll need to be active. Look for opportunities to exercise your memory. For example, if you’re learning a language, try to actively remember irregular verbs.
You can also make links between what you’re trying to remember and things you already know. For example, if you need to catch a plane at 2:00 p.m., you can imagine a plane in your mind and notice that it has two wings.
How to Develop Memory
Experiences
You forgot the name of the guest speaker.
You forget the place where you hid your jewelry.
___46___
Memory can be developed.
Ways
You should be ___47___, and try to remember where it is.
You should avoid ___48___. If not, you will forget things easily.

A. ¥162. B. ¥298. C. ¥68. D. ¥136.
17 Which of the following sentences is TRUE?
