13.A.The advantages and disadvantages of air travel.
B.The causes of airline delays and possible solutions.
C.The problems caused by heavy traffic in big cities.
D.The history and the major functions of FAA.
【答案】11.D 12.C 13.B
【详解】Have you ever had travel problems because your airplane was late? It is a common problem and it is getting worse.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is the government agency that oversees air travel. They studied the problem of airline delays and found eleven major problems and proposed ways to fix them. Some of the problems are caused because different regions of the country do things differently. The regions don’t talk to each other enough. Also, more planes are flying. A strong economy has more people using airplanes to get around. More planes in the airport cause delays.
Weather is another main reason for delays, which causes about 70% of delays.
The first thing the FAA wants to do is to take control away from the regions during heavy traffic times and bad weather. The FAA also wants to put more distance between planes in the sky when the weather is bad. This rule could cause even more delays. The FAA knows that their solutions will not cure the problems with airport delays, but they hope to make things better. There are just too many planes but too few traffic controllers.
Questions:
11. What is FAA according to the passage?
12. Which of the following is NOT mentioned as a main reason for airline delays?
13. What is this passage mainly talking about?

【答案】14.B 15.A 16.B
【原文】This is the hourly news at 10 p.m.. An angry viewer is accusing Japan’s national broadcaster for mental suffering caused by too much use of words borrowed from English.
According to Mr. Takahashi, the basis of his concern is that Japan is being too Americanised. English became popular in Japan after World War II when almost all US companies in Japan hired English speakers. The situation was followed by a growing interest in American pop culture. The country’s modern vocabulary is full of borrowed words, many of which are changed in pronunciation to fit the Japanese speaking habits.
Mr. Takahashi, accused NHK of irresponsibility by refusing to use certain native Japanese words instead of certain English words in the program. He believed that with Japanese society increasingly Americanized, NHK, as Japan’s national broadcaster, shouldn’t go with the trend, but should remain determined to stick with the use of Japanese, which he thinks would go a long way toward protecting Japanese culture.
However, many people think Mr. Takahashi’s concern is unreasonable as use of English doesn’t mean the loss of domestic culture but on the other hand helps Japan to get informed of the advanced technology and international affairs, which will eventually give Japan more advantages in the world community.

We see the approach of a problem and feel the urge to 34 our teenagers away from its path, hoping to use our wisdom for their benefit.
Consider the case of a friend of mine. As her son’s high school soccer tryouts (选拔赛) approached, 35 arose during her family meals. Her 36 husband was often using dinnertime to ask their fifteen-year-old son about his training progress. The boy 37 , as one would expect from any normally developing teenager, and the meals often ended in angry arguments. He explained, “I’m worried that our son’s confidence will take a big hit if he gets cut from the team,” a concern she 39 understood since it was likely to happen.
My friend wondered about their options. Could there be a possibility that if her husband consistently questioned their son’s training plans, he might become more 40 to his guidance. “This already isn’t working,” I said to her. “Doing more of it is probably a bad idea.” Instead, I suggested that they say, “We love you and know how much you want to make the soccer team, and we all know that you can increase your chances by getting in shape now.” And then leave it at that.

Insects are disappearing. The world has 25 per cent fewer insects now than in 1990.This includes those we depend on to pollinate (授粉) our crops and clean our rivers. If we don’t solve this problem very soon, some species will 41 .
There are many causes for the insect decline, but pesticides (杀虫剂) are a major part of the problem. Those used today are 42 and up to 10000 times more poisonous than some that were banned in the 1970s. Adding to the problem is that these pesticides are now applied to crops as preventive measures, whether pests are 43 or not.
Overall, the amount of insecticide applied to the land is 44 , but this is a very misleading statistic. A recent paper found that, between 2005 and 2015, there was a 40 percent reduction in the amount of pesticide applied to crops measured by weight. 45 , the global toxicity (毒性) of treated land to pollinating insects has more than doubled in the same period.
Governments and regulating agencies are aware of the problem, and some have moved to 46 the use of certain pesticides outdoors in an attempt to help bees survive. But the pesticides used instead are just as hazardous.
One 47 approach is to use pesticide-free pest control methods, referred to as integrated pest management (IPM). Having been around for decades, they offer effective crop protection and include methods such as planting resistant varieties, 48 pest habitats and releasing natural enemies of pests. But their adoption has been incredibly 49 , because spraying pesticides is viewed as an easy option. As a result, IPM methods are 50 seldom used today.
Neither changing insecticides nor adopting IPM is a quick 51 . We argue instead that we need a gradual 52 in focus, away from killing pests and towards protecting crops.
By using the 53 dose (剂量) we need to protect crops, we could reduce the amount of insecticide to a small portion of what is used today. Farmers would benefit from these changes. 54 , they could spend less money on pesticides and improve crop production by keeping healthy pollinator insects about. It is also a move that could win us time to make food production more 55 and integrate farmlands well with the natural ecosystems we crucially depend on. And that will allow insects to recover in the end.

Directions: Read the following three passages. Each passage is followed by several questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A, B, C and D. Choose the one that fits best according to the information given in the passage you have just read.
A
Late one night in July 2020, Halli was walking around Reykjavik’s main shopping street with his family. They had just moved back to Iceland from the United States and were struggling with jet lag (时差). When his three-year-old son wanted a drink from a corner store, Halli faced a problem: a 20-centimetre step blocked his wheelchair from entering the store.
This was not new to Halli, who has used a wheelchair since age 25 due to a muscle disease. As he waited outside, he thought about how often he had been excluded from places like restaurants and stores because they were not accessible.
Halli, a successful digital designer, had lived in many cities worldwide and noticed how differently they approached accessibility. After selling his company, Ueno, to Twitter (now X), he decided to use his resources to make Iceland more wheelchair-friendly.
In 2021, he launched Ramp (斜坡) Up Reykjavik, a non-profit project aiming to build 100 permanent ramps in the city’s downtown within a year. Unlike temporary ramps in other cities, these were designed to fit perfectly with the buildings, making them look like they had always been there.
With government funding and sponsors, the project went beyond its goal and expanded nationwide. By 2026, the team plans to build 1,500 ramps across Iceland, costing about 400 million Icelandic krona.
Iceland’s president praised the project, saying, “We want our society to be inclusive. Halli has shown us how easy it is to make a difference when we work together.”
In just three years, Halli has become a local hero, known as a “kind tech giant”. He hopes his work inspires others. Recently, a woman built a ramp at her home so her wheelchair-using friend could visit easily. “Equal access is not a reality yet,” he says, “but change starts with one person.”
56.What inspired Halli to start the ‘Ramp Up Reykjavik’ project?
A.The lack of wheelchair access. B.His son’s difficulty in finding a drink.
C.A suggestion from Iceland’s president. D.His desire to become famous in Iceland.
57.How are the ramps built by ‘Ramp Up Reykjavik’ different from those in other cities?
A.They are cheap to construct. B.They are only built in downtown.
C.They are temporary and movable. D.They look fitted with the buildings forever.
58.Which of the following best describes Halli?
A.Generous and patient. B.Positive and energetic.
C.Smart and hardworking. D.Inspiring and pioneering.
59.What dose Halli expect people to do about equal access?
A.Go ahead to start from small. B.Build ramps in every city.
C.Appeal to government for funds. D.Raise awareness through media.
【答案】56.A 57.D 58.D 59.A

Imagine an artificial intelligence model that can watch and understand moving images like you and me. Now, scientists have made this a reality by creating MovieNet: an innovative AI that processes videos much like how our brains interpret real-life scenes.
This brain-inspired AI model can perceive moving scenes by simulating how neurons (神经元) make real-time sense of the world. While conventional AI excels at still image recognition, MovieNet is designed to understand complex, dynamic scenes, allowing it to recognize small changes over time.
To create MovieNet, Hollis Cline, senior author of the study, examined how animals’ brains process real-world scenes. Specifically, he studied how tadpoles’ (蝌蚪的) neurons respond to moving stimuli. Tadpoles’ neurons process these visual inputs like solving puzzle pieces: each piece alone may not make sense, but together they form a complete image in motion. Different neurons process various “puzzle pieces” of a real-life moving image, which the brain then combines to form a continuous scene.
Using this understanding, the researchers trained MovieNet to process video clips by identifying small visual signals, allowing it to distinguish between small changes in scenes. In testing, MovieNet achieved 82.3% accuracy, outperforming trained human observers by 18% and doing much better than existing AI models.
Beyond its higher accuracy, MovieNet is more environment-friendly. Conventional AI requires vast amounts of data and energy, but MovieNet compresses (压缩) data like a zipped file, reducing environmental impact. “We’ve also made AI far less demanding,” says Cline. MovieNet could also transform medicine. It might help detect early signs of diseases by tracking small movement changes that are difficult for human eyes to detect.
Looking ahead, the team plans to improve MovieNet’s ability to adapt to different environments and enhance its potential applications. “By designing models that think like living organisms (有机体), we can achieve efficiency levels that aren't possible with traditional AI,” says Cline, “Biology is a gold mine.”
63.What does the underlined word “simulating” mean in paragraph 2?
A.Copying. B.Inspiring. C.Demonstrating. D.Recognizing.
64.MovieNet is trained ________.
A.to integrate dynamic images B.to increase visual inputs
C.to feed on information pieces D.to look into tadpoles’ neurons
65.According to paragraph 5, what is an advantage of MovieNet?
A.Its powerful data storage.
B.Its low energy consumption.
C.Its control of medical diseases.
D.Its improvement on drug effects.
66.What can be concluded from Cline’s words in the last paragraph?
A.Biology brings us financial profits.
B.Living organisms can outperform AI.
C.AI can assist in biological development.
D.Drawing inspiration from biology is promising.
【答案】63.A 64.A 65.B 66.D
故选A项。
64.细节理解题。根据第三段的句子“Tadpoles’ neurons process these visual inputs like solving puzzle pieces: each piece alone may not make sense, but together they form a complete image in motion. Different neurons process various “puzzle pieces” of a real-life moving image, which the brain then combines to form a continuous scene.(蝌蚪的神经元处理这些视觉输入就像解决拼图一样:每一块单独可能都没有意义,但它们一起形成了一个完整的运动图像。不同的神经元处理现实生活中运动图像的各种“拼图”,然后大脑将它们组合成一个连续的场景。)”和第四段的句子“Using this understanding, the researchers trained MovieNet to process video clips by identifying small visual signals, allowing it to distinguish between small changes in scenes.(利用这种理解,研究人员训练MovieNet通过识别小的视觉信号来处理视频片段,使其能够区分场景中的小变化。)”可知,MovieNet是通过整合动态图像来识别场景中的微小变化的。故选A项。
65.细节理解题。根据第五段的句子“Conventional AI requires vast amounts of data and energy, but MovieNet compresses data like a zipped file, reducing environmental impact.(传统的人工智能需要大量的数据和能源,但MovieNet像压缩文件一样压缩数据,减少了对环境的影响。)”可知,MovieNet通过压缩数据减少了对环境的影响,即其能耗较低。故选B项。
66.推理判断题。根据最后一段的句子“By designing models that think like living organisms, we can achieve efficiency levels that aren’t possible with traditional AI,” says Cline, “Biology is a gold mine.(通过设计像生物体一样思考的模型,我们可以达到传统人工智能无法达到的效率水平,”克莱恩说,“生物学是一座金矿。)”可知,Cline认为通过模仿生物体的思维方式设计模型,可以达到传统AI无法实现的效率水平,并称生物学为“金矿”。因此,可以推断出从生物学中汲取灵感是很有前景的。故选D项。

Directions: Complete the following passage by using the sentences in the box Each sentence can only be used once. Note that there are two sentences more than you need.
It is certainly difficult to make money. But should money be difficult to give away? In The Gilded Age, industrialists such as Andrew Carnegie and John D.Rockefeller worried about waste and misuse; Carnegie wrote in 1889 that $950 of every $1,000 that went to charity was “unwisely spent”. 67 Donors ran lengthy application processes, provided funds and fulfilled painstaking reporting requirements. In 2006 The Economist called it “philanthrocapitalism (慈善资本主义)”.
68 The 400 richest Americans have given away just 6% of their combined fortunes, according to Forbes. At the last count in 2022, almost $1.2 trn was sitting in American private foundations and $230bn in donor-advised funds, a sort of savings account for donors. Plenty of money is being marked for charity. But it is not getting to worthy causes fast enough.
Fortunately, a new generation of donors is once again shaking up the world of big philanthropy (慈善事业). Leading the mission is MacKenzie Scott, who simplified the process of giving and is donating billions of dollars a year with few conditions. This “no-strings giving” is changing mega-donors’ long-held assumptions. 69
One is the recognition that philanthropists do not have to do everything themselves. 70 An upside of a decades-long trend for businesslike philanthropy is that armies of consultants have emerged to help donors draw up a strategy and conduct due diligence on potential recipients. Donors can team up and share the work, too.
Another lesson from the no-strings crowd is that philanthropists can trust recipients to put money to good use once the proper due diligence is in place. That means analyzing a nonprofit organization’s annual reports and interviewing its leaders and other funders.
A.It offers lessons for those struggling to get money out of the door.
B.In addition to that, her charity work is too numerous to mention.
C.However, this idea that charities’ money is wasted has been proven wrong by evidence.
D.Mega-donors no longer need to endure the trouble of setting up a foundation and hiring staff.
E.Two decades on, however, it’s become clear that all this paperwork puts the brakes on giving.
F.Around the turn of the millennium donors looked to data and rules as a way to stop waste.
【答案】67.F 68.E 69.A 70.D
【导语】这是一篇说明文。主要介绍了慈善资本主义的弊端,以及新的一代的慈善家是如何进行慈善事业的。

IV.Summary Writing (共10分)
71.Directions: Read the following passage. Summarize the main idea and the main point (s) of the passage in no more than 60 words. Use your own words as far as possible.
Why Do People Take So Long to Reply to Text Messages?
We’ve all had that frustrating experience of texting someone and failing to get an answer. It can be especially disappointing when you text to make an arrangement, share some gossip or news, and you’re excited to hear what the other person’s response might be. You wait while the minutes turn to hours, then days - and ultimately you give up waiting and it’s difficult not to bear a grudge (怨恨).
There are some basic, practical reasons why people sometimes fail to respond straightaway, but there are also some deeper factors to consider. On a practical level, it’s possible the other person read your message when they weren’t in a position to respond - such as during an online meeting or because they were chatting to someone in real life - and then they simply forgot all about it.
Some psychological reasons for a lack of response are more interesting. You might fear that you’re being ignored, but another possibility is that the other person is struggling to find the right words. People with perfectionist tendencies, in particular, can find it difficult to respond- their reply has to be sufficiently witty, polite, supportive or entertaining (depending on the context). Far from not liking you, it could be that the pressure they’re putting on themselves to respond in the right way that leads them to delay
Another trap people fall into - especially if they’re putting a lot of thought into their answers - is that they can spend so much time composing a text in their minds, they end up thinking they’ve sent it when actually they haven’t got around to physically typing out the reply. Unless you have good evidence that you really are being purposefully ignored, rather than bearing a grudge, it might be helpful to gently remind the other person.

表示“生动鲜明的角色,引人入胜的故事情节和高质量的特效”用its vivid and distinct characters, engaging plot, and high-quality special effects,作with的宾语。 The film Ne Zha, which is adapted from Chinese folk tales, attracts audiences of all ages with its vivid and distinct characters, engaging plot, and high-quality special effects.
75.你觉得在你们小区给电动车充电方便吗?(convenient)(汉译英)
【答案】Do you think it is convenient to charge electric vehicles in your community?

Helping Teens Through Tough Times
The idea that experiencing psychological distress helps teens to mature may sound great in theory. However, when your own child is experiencing-emotional pain, it becomes a matter that could deeply 31 you. Caring parents hate to see their kids suffer and worry when their teens face challenges that impact their well-being. So what’s a loving adult to do?
We can try to notice when we go the extra mile to keep a teen from becoming 32 . It’s easy to fall into this 33 . With a great deal of life experience, we can often anticipate difficulties that our teenagers don’t see coming.
Curious, my friend asked her husband why he kept bringing up a topic that always 38 their meals.

A
Late one night in July 2020, Halli was walking around Reykjavik’s main shopping street with his family.

A
Late one night in July 2020, Halli was walking around Reykjavik’s main shopping street with his family.

A.Its powerful data storage.
B.Its low energy consumption.
C.Its control of medical diseases.
D.Its improvement on drug effects.
