So, one Saturday afternoon Tom and his friend went to look for treasure at the haunted house on Cardiff Hill. It was a quiet and lonely place, which made the boys feel very frightened. They entered quietly, and explored downstairs. There were cobwebs everywhere and everything was old and broken. Then they threw their tools in a corner and walked upstairs, but there was nothing there. They were just about to go downstairs and start digging when Tom stopped.
“What is it? ” whispered Huck, going white with fear.
“Keep quiet! There’s someone downstairs. ”
The boys lay down, looking through the holes in the wooden floor. There were two men downstairs. One was an old Spaniard in a wide sombrero hat and the other was dirty and unpleasant-looking.
Tom and Huck shook with fear when they heard the Spaniard speak because they found it was Indian Joe. He said, “It’s time for us to move, partner. What will we do with the $650 from the robbery?”
“Let’s keep $30 each and leave the bag here. ”
The dirty man went to the fireplace and moved a stone. Then he lifted out a bag full of money and took out some coins. The two boys forgot all their fears when they saw there was real treasure downstairs. Then Indian Joe started digging a hole with his knife and the knife hit something. “What is it? ” asked the other man.
“It’s a box, ” said Indian Joe. And he put in his hand and pulled out a handful of gold coins. The other man found the boys’ tools, and they soon pulled out the box.
“There’s thousands of dollars in there, ” said Indian Joe.
“The Murrell Gang used this area one summer, ” said his partner.
“They must have hidden their money here. ”
“What will we do with this, Joe? Will we bury (埋) it again?”
“No, someone might find it, ” said Indian Joe. “Let’s bury it in the number two den (洞穴). ”
Tom and Huck got up as soon as the two men left. They decided to watch out for the “man in the sombrero” when he came to town and find out where the number two den was.

As new technology is introduced, there are many who worry about its influence on our jobs. It is believed that with the rise of robotics and artificial intelligence, many people’s jobs are likely to be lost to automation (自动化).
Automation in the work place is nothing new. Machines have been doing boring and repetitive tasks for us for years. In fact, the International Federation of Robotics says that in manufacturing (制造业) there are now 74 robots per 10,000 employees (员工). That has risen from 66 in 2015.
General Manager of a tech firm Nuance, Bernard Louvat, believes that “AI is a big threat (威胁) to low-skilled jobs, no question.” He also thinks that AI chatbots will replace (取代) most call centre-workers within a few years.
And that’s just one industry. A recent report from the McKinsey Global Institute, says that nearly two thirds of all jobs could have at least 30% of their activities automated by 2030.
However, McKinsey also believes that this new technology will also “create new jobs that do not exist today, much as technologies in the past have done.”
“It’s an evolution (演化) of work,” says I an Barkin, a robotic process automation expert. As low-skilled jobs are taken on by Al, people will need to learn new skills. “This calls on us to focus on up-skilling. Technology can lead to job reductions but it doesn’t have to,” says Barkin.
Whether or not robotics and AI will leave us all jobless remains to be seen. Views on the subject are mixed. Increased automation could indeed lead to a loss of some jobs, but at the same time is likely to create many more as new-skills are required. Will they balance out? I’ll get my Al assistant to get back to you on that one.
22.According to Paragraph one, what do many people worry about?
A.Rising cost of living. B.Increase in job satisfaction.
C.Reduction in job chances. D.Improvement in skill requirements.
23.How many robots per 10,000 employees were there in manufacturing according to the International Federation of Robotics in 2015?
A.66. B.74. C.30. D.140.
24.Which of the following is McKinsey’s opinion?
A.AI has little influence on low-skilled industries.
B.We should pay attention to improving our skills.
C.All jobs could have at least 30% of their activities automated by 2030.
D.AI presents challenges to low-skilled jobs, but it also creates new jobs.
25.What does the writer think about the influence the technology on the job market?
A.The writer thinks it bad and will make many people lose jobs.
B.The writer totally supports its development because it will help people get jobs.
C.The writer doesn’t mention what he or she thinks.
D.The writer is not sure whether it is good.

第六部分 阅读表达(共3小题;54题2分,55题2分,56题3分,满分7分)
请认真阅读下面短文,用英语回答短文后的问题,并将答案写在答题卡标有题号的横线上。
Although it happened over 10 years ago, I still remember the moment clearly, I had ordered a drink at a mall in Beijing. When it was ready, the server handed me a cup with laowai written on it, meaning“foreigner”.
It was my second day in China, and this marked the first at different places when I would be called a laowai in public. What does it feel like to be called a laowai?
As someone who doesn’t like being in the spotlight (聚光灯), walking down the street and suddenly hearing someone say to their friend, “Look, a laowai”, is not a pleasant experience. It just makes you feel awkward and draws unnecessary attention.
As much as I dislike being singled out, I also try to understand. China is not a nation like Australia, where I’m from. So. for many Chinese people, seeing a foreigner is still a big deal. When I’m in a place in China with few foreigners, even I sometimes can’t help but point out to my friends that there’s another foreigner nearby, I just make sure to do it carefully!
My Chinese friends also tell me that laowai is a more welcome term than waiguoren because lao adds a touch of respect and friendship. I’ve never felt it came from a place of rudeness or disrespect. The longer I live here, the more China feels like home, and the more I just want to “fit in”. And that, I think, is something beautiful.
54.What does laowai mean?
55.How does the writer feel when being called laowai?
56.What would you say when you see a foreigner? Why?
【答案】54.Foreigner. 55.The writer feels awkward and uncomfortable when being called laowai, as it draws unnecessary attention. 56.When I see a foreigner, I would probably say “Hello”, because I want to respect him/her and not make him/her feel uncomfortable.
【导语】本文讲述了一个外国人在中国被称为“老外”的经历和感受,以及他对这一称呼的理解和适应过程。
54.根据“...the server handed me a cup with laowai written on it, meaning ‘foreigner’”可知,老外的意思是“foreigner”,即“外国人”。故填Foreigner.
55.根据“...hearing someone say to their friend, ‘Look, a laowai’, is not a pleasant experience”以及“It just makes you feel awkward and draws unnecessary attention.”可知,作者感到尴尬和不舒服,因为这样会引来不必要的关注。故填The writer feels awkward and uncomfortable when being called laowai, as it draws unnecessary attention.
56.开放性作答,结合实际,言之有理即可。参考答案为When I see a foreigner, I would probably say “Hello”, because I want to respect him/her and not make him/her feel uncomfortable.

More than 1.86 million of them are housed at the museum, which recorded nearly 20 million visits from the public last year. “How can we make sure no single visitor who might have evil ideas threatens these treasures?” Shan said. “After adopting the Internet of Things (物联网), we can instantly detect any motion involving the relics prevent such threats.”

Every boy wants to find treasure. Tom was no different. One summer day Tom told Huck about his idea.
“Where can we look for treasure? ” asked Huck.
“It’s hidden on islands, under dead trees, but mostly under the floors in haunted (闹鬼的) houses.”
