Growing up, she was really shy, so she always turned to books. They sort of became her best friends when she didn’t have one. In 2019, when Bhatnagar was in her second year of high school, her dad was diagnosed with cancer. The news was difficult for the family. Books became an even bigger comfort, and she started thinking about families in similar situations. When her father recovered, she came up with a plan to help others. “The idea came from just deep gratitude that the doctors were able to save her father,” she says. “But also a hint of sadness that there were kids who were fighting the same battle.” Bhatnagar started a book drive in her hometown, Gaithersburg, Maryland. The goal was to collect books and give them to kids being treated for cancer in local hospitals. Her father was not surprised by this plan. “She was always interested in books, and she always wanted to do things for the neighborhood,” he says. Since the start of the book drive, which she calls For Love & Buttercup, Bhatnagar has collected more than 10,000 books. Bhatnagar had no idea how much attention her work would get. She started by posting on social media, asking people in her area to donate. “I was expecting maybe two or three responses from neighbors,” she says. “But it ended up blowing up,” especially when news stations began reporting it. The public response has been super great. Bhatnagar continues to run the book drive and hopes to one day expand the project to reach more kids. The memory of the first time she visited children who’d received her books sticks with her. “It was the best day of my life,” she says. “I realized I wanted to do this type of work forever.” 24. After all, they only take eight minutes to cook in a dorm hotpot and are easy on the budget. Holly Grounds, a recent project design graduate who used to eat a lot of ramen noodles when she studied, started thinking that the packaging of a product shouldn't take decades or more to break down. That's why she decided to make eatable wrappers (包装材料) for noodles, avoiding the need for plastic. Grounds wanted to produce a product that the user could watch actually melt in the pot. “While other bio-based alternatives to plastic claim to be able to break down, in a consumer’s eyes, it's not always that simple,”she said. “Many of the bio-based films only break down at 50 degrees Celsius, so they often end up in the wrong place without the consumer really knowing that they caused damage to the planet.” Now, instead of plastic packs of seasonings, the dried spices and flavorings (调味品)are part of a flavorless bioplastic film that wraps the noodles and keeps them fresh. The film melts in less than a minute when it comes into boiling water, and the liquid becomes the sauce (调味汁)for the noodles. “The sauce is heated until the mixture is thick enough. At this point, I add the spices and flavorings before pouring it into a mold (模子)to set for 24 hours,” Grounds said. These noodle parcels are then packaged in a wax-coated paper. With plastics taking hundreds of years to break down, eatable packaging and single-use articles are seen as the way to go. Grounds sees opportunities to use her eatable packaging for other ready meals and she wants to contribute to the global fight against single-use plastics. 28. Why does Grounds want to replace plastic wrappers with eatable ones? A. The plastic ones are not eco-friendly. B. The plastic ones do harm to our health. C. The eatable ones appeal to more consumers. D. The eatable ones save more cooking time. 29. What makes the bio-based films fail to break down in practice? A. The immature technology. B. The high cost of process. C. Their very special material composition. D. Their specific conditions of breaking down. 30. What do we know about the eatable wrapper according to Paragraph 3? A. It ensures longer preservation time. B. It requires a special cooking method. C. It ends up as the sauce for food. D. It improves the nutrition of noodles. 31. The fourth paragraph mainly talks about the the eatable noodle wrappers. A. the method of using B. the process of making C. the packaging design for D. the storage requirements for 【答案】28. A 29. D 30. C 31. 根据文章第一段“Holly Grounds, a recent project design graduate who used to eat a lot of ramen noodles when she studied, started thinking that the packaging of a product shouldn't take decades or more to break down. ”(最近毕业于项目设计专业的Holly Grounds,在学习的时候吃了很多拉面,她开始认为,产品的包装不应该用几十年甚至更久的时间来分解。)可知,Holly想要用可食用包装来替代塑料包装是由于塑料制品不环保。故选A项。 29.细节理解题。根据文章第二段“‘Many of the bio-based films only break down at 50 degrees Celsius, so they often end up in the wrong place without the consumer really knowing that they caused damage to the planet.’”(“‘许多生物薄膜只有在50摄氏度的温度下才会分解,所以它们经常被放置在错误的地方,消费者并没有真正意识到它们对地球造成了破坏。’”)Holly的话可知,现实中生物薄膜难以分解是因为分解需要特定的要求。故选D项。 30.细节理解题。根据文章第三段“The film melts in less than a minute when it comes into boiling water, and the liquid becomes the sauce for the noodles.”(当薄膜进入沸水中不到一分钟就会融化,而液体就变成了面条的酱汁。)可知,食用包装最后成为了食物的酱汁。故选C项。 31.主旨大意题。根据文章第四段“‘The sauce is heated until the mixture is thick enough. At this point, I add the spices and flavorings before pouring it into a mold to set for 24 hours,’Grounds said. These noodle parcels are then packaged in a wax-coated paper.”(“‘把酱汁加热到足够粘稠为止。现在,我先加入香料和调味料,然后再把它们倒进模具,让其凝固24小时。’Grounds说。这些面条包裹会用蜡纸包装起来。”)可知,文章第四段说明了食用薄膜的制作过程。故选B项。 D As people get older, the types of friends they have tend to change. As young adults, humans have a lot of friends. With age, they often prefer to spend their time with just a few close, positive individuals. Researchers long believed that this change was unique to humans, but a new study finds that chimps also have similar tendencies. One explanation for the humans to get picky about social connections has to do with awareness of our limited life span. “People monitor how much time we have left in our life and choose emotionally-fulfilling relationships in old age,” says one of the study's lead authors Alexandra G. Rosati, a psychologist at the University of Michigan. As people age, they don’t want to be surrounded by a large group of negative friends, but would prefer to be near a handful of optimistic individuals. Rosati and her colleagues were curious whether chimps would show similar features even though they don’t seem to be aware of their upcoming death. Researchers used 78, 000 hours of observations made over 20 years from the Kibale Chimpanzee Project in Uganda. The data looked at the social interactions of 21 male chimps between 15 and 58 years old. The researchers only studied male chimps because they show stronger social bonds and have more social interactions than female chimps. Researchers found that wild chimpanzees share a similar pattern. “They interact with others in more positive ways as they get older. Younger adults, in contrast, show more aggression and were more likely to form one-sided relationships where their partner did not reciprocate. ”says Rosati. For example, the older chimpanzees would sit close to their long-time companions and groom (给……梳毛) each other, while younger chimps had more one-sided relationships where they would groom a friend, but the action wasn't returned. The study was published in the journal Science. “This aging pattern may be the result of shared changes in our abilities to manage our emotions with age,” Rosati says. “This shared pattern between chimpanzees and humans could represent an adaptive response where older adults focus on important social relationships that provide benefits and avoid interactions that have negative consequences as they lose competitive fighting ability.” 32. Why do humans change their preference for friends in old age? A. They don’t like making new friends. B. Their friends pass away one by one. C. They adapt to the changes in nature. D. They know their life is running out. 33. What is the purpose of Paragraph 3? A. To show the study was done scientifically. B. To show how scientists tried to prove their assumption. C. To show how hard it was to observe the chimps. D. To show male chimps are unaware of upcoming death. 34. What does the underlined word “reciprocate” in Paragraph 4 mean? A. Repay their kindness. B. Take care of them. C. Get along well with them. D. Sit close to them. 35. Which can be a suitable title for the text? A. People Prefer Positive Partners in Old Age B. Positive Bonds Benefit Chimps in Many Ways C. Aging Chimps like Us Get Picky About Friends D. Chimps Share Similar Tendencies with Humans 【答案】32. D 33. A 34. A 35. 根据第二段第一句“One explanation for the humans to get picky about social connections has to do with awareness of our limited life span.(与人类有限的寿命有关的意识是人类对社会联系很挑剔的原因的一种解释)”可知,D项“They know their life is running out(他们知道自己的生命快要耗尽了)”表述与原文解释一致。故选D。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据文中的句子“Researchers used 78, 000 hours of observations made over 20 years from the Kibale Chimpanzee Project in Uganda. The data looked at the social interactions of 21 male chimps between 15 and 58 years old.(研究人员花了78,000小时对乌干达基巴莱黑猩猩项目观察了20多年。数据分析21只15-58岁的猩猩的社会相互关系)”中的大量科学数据,以及样本选择更典型“The researchers only studied male chimps because they show stronger social bonds and have more social interactions than female chimps.(研究人员只研究雄猩猩,因为他们的社交纽带更强,比雌性猩猩有更多的社交互动)”说明了文中所提的研究的科学性,具有说服力。故选A。 【34题详解】 词意猜测题。根据划线词所在句前半句“Younger adults, in contrast, show more aggression and were more likely to form one-sided relationships(相反,年轻的成年猩猩表现出更有攻击性,更有可能地形成单方面的关系)”及后面的举例解释“For example, the older chimpanzees would sit close to their long-time companions and groom (给……梳毛) each other, while younger chimps had more one-sided relationships where they would groom a friend, but the action wasn't returned.(比如,年长点的猩猩愿意坐在它们长期的同伴身边,彼此相互给对方梳毛,然而年轻点的猩猩有更多的单方面的关系,它们给一个朋友梳理毛发,但是它们的行为没有得到回报)”可以推出划线词的意思是“Repay their kindness(付出的善意行为得到回报)”故选A。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。根据首段末句“Researchers long believed that this change was unique to humans, but a new study finds that chimps also have similar tendencies.(研究人员长期认为这变化是人类特有的,但是一个新的研究发现猩猩也有与人类相似的趋势)”及最后一段“This shared pattern between chimpanzees and humans could represent an adaptive response where older adults focus on important social relationships that provide benefits and avoid interactions that have negative consequences as they lose competitive fighting ability.(这种猩猩与人类共有的模式呈现了一种适应性的反应,在这反应中,年老的会集中于重要的社会关系,这种关系提供了利益,避免了那种因失去竞争战斗能力而产生的负面后果的相互关系)”可知,本文自始至终都围着中心大意“Chimps Share Similar Tendencies with Humans(猩猩享有与人类一样的变化趋势)”。故选D。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Live-stream marketing: A rural rags-to-riches story? For many years, quality agricultural products were unable to sell in faraway provinces. ____36____ It prevented them from accessing a wider, urban client. In most cases, because farmers failed to directly reach consumers, their heavy physical labor resulted in very little income. As a result of quick urbanization, the problem of aging is more pronounced in the countryside. To support agriculture and rural welfare, it’s important to find more people willing to devote themselves to the field. In this regard, live-stream marketing may appeal to young migrant workers and convince them to return home in the countryside. ____37____ In Yunnan Province, southwest China, live-stream marketing is currently the most popular way of pushing local products to consumers across the country. ____38____ It is turning the smart phone into a new farming tool by fashioning new shopping centers. Live-streaming has greatly boosted the province’s produce sales in the past two years. We now have a great business model in place, combining products with high-quality live stream platforms and support packages from the government. Live-stream marketing is ready to play a big role in raising rural incomes in relatively backward provinces like Yunnan. ____39____. (运用了连接词if引导宾语从句) 第二节 (满分 25 分) 67.阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。 It was cool and bright and just right for running. I was in the first few miles of a 10-mile race through some hills. Birds were singing on the trees. The soft wind was brushing my cheeks. I felt rested and springy. Despite the hills, I thought it was going to be a fine run. Ahead was Blake, a student from Burke High School. He was running easily, too, moving along efficiently. The pace felt comfortable, so I decided to stay where he was; why bother concentrating on pace when Blake was such a nice pacesetter for me? I would overtake Blake later on when he used up energy. So I ran closely behind him. The course headed north for five miles, wandered west for a mile, and then turned south again. The race was getting tougher. With three miles to go, it was beginning to be real hard work. My lungs were on fire, and legs felt like stone. Blake overtook the boy in front of him. Apparently he knew the boy, for they exchanged a few words. Their brief communication worried me. Runners don’t chat during a race unless they feel really good, and Blake plainly was. There was still a noticeable bounce in his steps, but the springiness I had once possessed was gone. Still, I was close enough to overtake Blake if he was tired, so I didn’t give up hope completely. We were approaching a hill, a mile from the finish line, so whatever happened on the hill would almost certainly determine who crossed it first. As I moved up the hill, my attention wandered for a few minutes. When I looked up, Blake was moving away, first five yards, then ten, then more. There was no hope of catching Blake. 注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Suddenly Blake slowed and sat onto the ground painfully. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A reporter took a picture of this moving scene and posted it online. ______________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________【答案】 Suddenly Blake slowed and sat onto the ground painfully. Then I hurried up and ran up to him, only to find that his leg was cramping. I tried to help him stand and move forward, but he refused. He asked me to run after the others so that I could get the first place. I thought for a second and decided to accompany him for a rest. Then we ran slowly forward together. Although we ran slowly and were overtaken by others, I felt relaxed and we finally crossed the finish line together. A reporter took a picture of this moving scene and posted it online. During the time, the photo got a lot of likes. Many strangers sent the emails to praise me about the incident. In fact, I was a little hesitant at the beginning, but the moment I decided to help Blake, I felt calm and relaxed. I’m happy that I did the right thing. 加快:hurry up/ hasten ②.跑向:run up to /run to ③.追赶:run after /catch up with 情绪类 ①.感到轻松:feel relaxed/ feel comfortable ②.平静的:calm / peaceful【点睛】 [高分句型1] Then I hurried up and ran up to him, only to find that his leg was cramping. B Emily Bhatnagar has always loved reading. What can we learn about Bhatnagar from paragraph 2? A. She loves her father dearly. B. She cares for sick children. C. She got into a habit of reading. D. She fought hard against cancer. 25. What is For Love & Buttercup aiming to do? A. To collect over 10,000 books. B. To stimulate children’s interest in books. C. To help raise money for the poor. D. To donate books to kids with cancer. 26. How did Bhatnagar feel about the public response to the book drive? A. It’s unexpected. B. It’s confusing. C. It’s unsatisfactory. D. It’s immediate. 27. Which of the following best describes Bhatnagar? A. Serious and humorous. B. Caring and ambitious. C. Brave and strong-willed. D. Generous and warm-hearted. C Ramen noodles have been a go-to food for students for decades. A. the method of using B. the process of making C. the packaging design for D. the storage requirements for D As people get older, the types of friends they have tend to change. Chimps Share Similar Tendencies with Humans 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Live-stream marketing: A rural rags-to-riches story? ____39____. E-commerce live-streaming is doing pretty well nowadays, but farm produce only accounts for a small share, mainly due to the lack of experienced hosts and infrastructure in rural areas. ____40____ How to grow live stream marketing for farm products? Short videos or live-streams, the key is to meet consumers’ demand. High-quality products alone aren’t enough; they must consider buyers’ preferences as well. A. There arises a question. B. However, government policies and guidance should follow up. C. The expansion of 5G technology is a vital contribution. D. The biggest barrier is lack of efficient marketing channels. E. China has a tradition of intensive cultivation and a huge rural population. F. Once back they can introduce more digitally advanced approaches to agricultural management. G. But we should establish a complete supply chain based on strict standards to maintain its continuous development. 第三部分:语言运用(共两节,满分 30分) 第一节:(共15小题;每小题 1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后各题所给的 A、B、C 和 D 四个选项中,选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 “Mama, when I grow up. B Emily Bhatnagar has always loved reading. A. the method of using B. the process of making C. the packaging design for D. the storage requirements for D As people get older, the types of friends they have tend to change.
