Hello, my name is Malee, and I am from Thailand. Elephants are my favourite animals because they are strong and clever. They are a symbol of good luck in our country. They are our national animals, and we celebrate Thai Elephant Day on March 13th every year.
Elephants are different from other animals. They are huge in size. With their long trunks, they are able to carry heavy things. They also have big ears.
Elephants are similar to us in some ways. They are playful and love playing in the water. They have a good memory. For example, they can remember places with food and water after many years. They are also very kind. When an elephant is unwell, other elephants will help it. And the older elephants often look after the younger ones.
Elephants play an important part in Thai culture and life. Sadly, they are in danger now. People cut down many trees and destroy their natural homes—forests. Some people even kill them for their ivory. We must do something to save the elephants. Elephants are important, and it’s our duty to protect them.

In Kunming, there is a special thing every year. Since 1985, many seagulls (海鸥) have been visiting Kunming, These birds go a long way from the cold Siberia (西伯利亚) to find a warm place to stay in winter.
It is hard for these seagulls to come to Kunming. They migrate (迁徙) from far-away cold Siberia to our hometown. They fly over mountains and rivers. They fly about 80 kilometers to the south every day, facing bad weather and many dangers along the way. It is about 6,000 kilometers to get to Kunming from Siberia.
Seagulls like to be with their friends. They live in large groups for safety. When one seagull sees danger, it will make loud noise to tell others in the group. This helps them stay away from danger.
A few years ago, scientists studied these seagulls. They put small GPS on some birds to learn more about where they go. They found out that the seagulls visited other places like Lake Erhai in Dali or even Myanmar (缅甸) before deciding that Kunming is the best place. The seagulls usually arrive in Kunming in October and stay here until March.
So, why do seagulls like Kunming so much? Winter in Kunming is not too cold, with a nice temperature of about 10℃, which is friendly to seagulls. They also find a lot of food in Dianchi Lake. And the people of Kunming often give food to the seagulls in their free time. This makes Kunming not only a good living place for seagulls but also a place where they get love from Kunming people.

Dear Mary,
How is everything going? I’m writing to share ideas from an online article about protecting endangered animals. It really moved me recently.
Many animals are in danger of dying out, such as pandas and whales. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, they don’t have enough food and living space. Secondly, people cut down trees and pollute rivers, which destroys their habitats. Moreover, some animals are hunted for their fur, meat or other parts.
As a middle school student, I believe I can do something to help. For example, I can join volunteer groups to clean up the places where animals live. What’s more, I will tell people around me the importance of protecting animals and ask them not to buy things made from animals.
Let’s work together to make the world a better place for these lovely creatures.

Save the Animals
My favorite animal is the panda, which is not only cute but also a symbol of peace. However, pandas, like many other animals, are in danger because their habitats are being destroyed by human activities.
We need to protect animals because they are our friends and play an important role in the ecosystem. Without them, the balance of nature will be broken, and it will affect our lives as well.
To save the animals, we should take action. First, we can stop cutting down trees and plant more to provide habitats for them. Second, we should reduce pollution to keep their environment clean. Finally, we can spread the message to let more people know the importance of protecting animals.
Let’s work together to save the animals and make the world a better place for all living creatures!
