一、任务型阅读
Mr. Weeks is fifty years old. He's taught maths in a middle school for twenty years. He works hard and always comes to his office on time. He hopes his students will be honest and he is strict with them. Some of his students have become famous persons, but they still remember him and often write to him. Of course the man is proud of them.
This term he began to teach Grade One. Some of the new students were told about him, but the others didn't know about him. On the first day of school he told the students how to be an honest person. He gave them some examples and said, “I don't like telling a lie.” Before class was over, he told all his students to finish Exercise 8 in Lesson 1.
The next morning, as soon as he came into the classroom, he asked, “Who's finished Exercise 8?” A few students raised their hands. He shook his head and said, “Open your workbooks and see if there's Exercise 8 in Lesson 1. ”

Too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. That is why some friendships do not last very long. To have a friend, you must learn to be one. You must learn to treat your friend the way you want your friend to treat you. Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules—be honest, be generous(慷慨的), and be understanding.
Honesty is where a good friendship starts. Friends must be able to trust one another. If you do not tell the truth, people usually find it out. If a friend finds out that you haven’t been honest, you may lose your friend’s trust. Good friends always believe in one another as they always speak and act honestly.
Generosity means sharing, and it makes a friendship grow. You do not have to give lunch money or your clothes. Instead, you have to learn how to share things you enjoy, like your hobbies and your interests. Then, naturally you will want to share your ideas and feelings. These can be very valuable to a friend. They tell your friend what is important to you. By sharing them, you help your friend know you better.
Sooner or later, everyone needs understanding and help with a problem. Something may go wrong at school. Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. As a friend, listening can be a first step in helping solve the problem. Besides, you must also try to put yourself in your friends’ place so you can understand the problem better.
No two friendships are ever the same, but all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friends, you must be honest, generous, and understanding.
1.Why can’t some friendships last very long?
2.To be a good friend, do we need to share our food and clothes?
3.How do we help our friends solve the problems at school?
4.What is the passage mainly about?
【答案】1.Because too many people want others to be their friends, but they don’t give friendship back. 2.No, we don’t. 3.Talking about the problem can make it easier to solve. 4.The three things that help you keep your friends.

4.根据第一段的“Learning to be a good friend means learning three rules—be honest, be generous(慷慨的), and be understanding.”以及最后一段的“but all true friendships have three things in common. If you plan to keep your friends, you must be honest, generous, and understanding.”可知,文章主要讲述了交朋友的三大要点:诚实,慷慨大方和善解人意。故填The three things that help you keep your friends.

M. Hirsh Goldberg wrote a book on telling lies —— The Book of Lies. It has been translated into Japanese, Korean and Chinese. He said in his book that a common person lies almost about 200 times a day. These lies include omission (疏忽), white lies (善意的谎言) and so on. In our daily life, a typical lie for a man is “I did not drink that much” and for a woman is “Nothing is wrong, I’m fine.” It is found that nurses are the most honest people, while sales people and politicians (政客) are the biggest liars (说谎者). Every Honesty Day, Mr. Hirsh Goldberg hands out prizes to honest people.
