He asked all the students to plan and to make a project for the two day fair. My group did an experiment to find out what happens to our teeth when we have sugary drinks. We used three eggs because the outer services are similar to our teeth. We put them into different glasses with cola, apple use and plain water. Then we checked how their color changed and took pictures that we showed on a large White board in the hall. The other groups from my class worked on a lot of interesting projects, too. IT was great to walk around the hall and look at the other students who are showing their projects. At last, the headmaster chose the top four projects and gave a Price to each of them. My group didn't get a prize, but that was not important to me. After all, we took part and had a great time together. Last month, the headmaster of my school decided to set up a biology fair. Here is a list of bilingual (双语的) books for them. Keep in mind that different kids require different books depending on their own reading level. DANIEL’S MYSTERY EGG This is a book with a simple storyline. After Daniel finds an egg, he is very curious. What could be inside it? It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s probably not the second one! Whatever it is, kids can learn a good amount of vocabulary from this book, especially as it mentions some animals in both languages. I LOVE SATURDAYS Y DOMINGOS This book follows the narrator (叙述者) on her visits to her grandparents. With her grandparents, she speaks English; but with her mother, she speaks Spanish. She is a Mexican American. There we can see the differences both in the languages and in the ways her grandparents and mother celebrate her birthday. This is families and the thing they all share: their love for their loved ones. UPSIDE DOWN AND BACKWARDS This short book has six stories that show different plots (情节) like strange neighbors and mystical science projects. It turns ordinary situations into unusual adventures that any child will love to read. All stories celebrate strong relationships with people, whether they are friends, family, or teachers. The stories have some pictures which help kids form a mental picture of the story. MAXIMILIAN & THE MYSTERY OF THE GUARDIAN ANGEL This book follows an 11-year-old wrestling (摔跤) lover who one day discovers his connection to a famous wrestler called the Guardian Angel. It does have pictures, but they don’t contribute much to the story. The book is full of action, and it tells a story children can enjoy from beginning to end. 21. What can we say about DANIEL’S MYSTERY EGG? A. It follows the changes of an egg. B. It lets kids’ imagination run wild. C. It focuses on kids’ colorful school life. D. It teaches kids to be friendly to animals. 22. What do the narrator’s visits to her grandparents show? A. Her poor relationships with her family. B. The difficulty in communication. C. Her family’s long history. D. Some cultural differences. 23. What do the last two books have in common? A. They both include adventurous plots. B. They both use pictures to attract kids. C. They both help improve kids’ science knowledge. D. They both have interesting and talented leading roles. B Like most couples, my husband and I dreamed of becoming homeowners. Sure, apartment living comes with its own set of advantages—less housework, shared comfort, less to clean up and care for, and usually cheaper rent. As a result, we decided to downgrade from our neat five-bedroom, 2,700-square-foot house on the water to a three-bedroom, 1,369-square-foot apartment, with two kids. Once we arrived in our new apartment, we were surprised to find that things flowed relatively smoothly. There was so much less to keep up with—fewer floors to mop, fewer windows to clean, fewer walls to wipe, etc. Now I think of our home as our little playhouse, since it's much smaller and everything is closer together. That also makes it so much easier for me to keep up with as a mom. I collect laundry all on one floor comparing with having to climb stairs to the house's second floor! In our new home, we use lots of shoe organizers inside of every closet door for more than just shoes—baby items, office items, and medicines. We also have a functional room that serves as an office and gym. Since both my husband and I work from home, we require at least one room to share as an office with fitness equipment fitted into a corner. While many people choose to downsize for financial reasons, that actually wasn't a factor in our decision. We wanted to be in a lively area with like-minded young families. That was our first priority. Though we may still buy another house in this area at some point down the line, for now, we're thrilled with the concept of renting an apartment. Let me put it this way: We’re not really the “handy” types, so being able to call maintenance(维修)for any repairs is worth every rent coin! 24. What can we learn from Paragraph 1? A. Our old house was upgraded. B. Living in a house has advantages. C. Our new apartment was downsized. D. Smaller size means more housework. 25. How do the couple feel about the new apartment? A. Confused. B. Amazed. C. Tired. D. Challenged. 26. Why do the couple make changes to their new home? A. To build up their body. B. To create a home office. C. To enlarge all the rooms. D. To make full use of space. 27. What is the couple’s first concern when moving? A. Transportation. B. Neighbourhood. C. Repair work. D. Money. C Sarah Parcak is not an average archaeologist She uses satellite images to locate Egyptian sites that have been lost through the passage of time. It was not just a personal interest in Egyptology that drew her to the world of maps, satellites, and long-lost ruins. Sarah’s grandfather was a pioneer in using tools to map forested areas. After spending weekends with her grandfather examining aerial (空中的) photographs through his special image-viewing equipment, she decided to take her first remote sensing course in college. Through the course, she learned the use of satellites to search for and collect information about the earth. “I would say, finding stuff is human nature. We love discovering things,” Sarah says. “It’s something very old and basic. It is such an attractive idea that we can use this amazing technology to seek, find, and explore stuff better and to understand our world.” By using satellite imagery, she can locate sites that would otherwise take decades to uncover. Less than 1% of ancient Egyptian sites have been dug up, meaning most of this rich history remains hidden. Satellites provide a way to discover small differences in soil, plants, and ground conditions, making it possible to find what lies beneath the surface. Sarah views satellite imagery as a super tool that allows archaeologists to uncover mysteries difficult to explore with normal eyes. Sarah believes studying geography helps us better view our world and the world around us. “You can look at cities. You can look at rivers. You can look at archaeology. But I think it is also about looking at the interaction and influence, because you can never study one thing,” she says. Working also as a professor, Sarah says Google Earth is a satellite resource students should take advantage of. “You can use it to find so many different things about landscapes and answer big questions about geography,” she says. “A picture is worth a thousand words and a satellite image is worth a million dollars.” 28. What led Sarah to study remote sensing? A. Her family’s expectations. B. Her talent for photography. C. Her curiosity about ancient life. D. Her practice of using related tools. 29. What can be inferred about Sarah from her words? A. She has broad interests. B. She has a spirit of exploration. C. She enjoys challenging tradition. D. She values exchanges with others. 30. What is the fourth paragraph mainly about? A. Tips on exploring the earth. B. Tech’s role in discovering history. C. Trouble with satellite imagery use. D. Misunderstandings of Egyptian history. 31. How does Sarah find geography learning? A. It takes great teamwork. B. It presents tough challenges. C. It requires exploring connections. D. It promotes environmental efforts. D First impressions can be powerful. In less than a second, we make judgments about someone’s trustworthiness, attractiveness, and personality. “The appearance of individuals generally leads to certain common assumptions (假定). We also know that these assumptions can influence real-life behaviors. Physically attractive people generally receive more positive treatment than less attractive individuals,” Marine Rougier, a researcher in Belgium, said. In scientific circles, this is known as the “halo effect”, and it shows that people rate attractive individuals more favorably for personality and characteristics. But in today’s digital age, first impressions are often formed online, where photos can be changed using digital tools like filters (滤镜). So, can we still trust our first impressions when images can be so easily changed? In a recent study, Rougier and her colleague, Jan De Houwer, showed participants photos of people with different levels of attractiveness. Participants formed first impressions, but then were told that the photos might have been edited to make the people look more or less attractive. Surprisingly, even after learning this, many participants stuck to their first impressions. But in a follow-up experiment, when participants were shown how easy it is to manage photos, they were much more likely to change their minds. This “halo-update effect” shows that first impressions are malleable. For example, if someone is at first seen as confident and social due to their attractiveness, they may be reconsidered as less confident once it comes to light that their photo was edited. What does this mean for us? It suggests that we can challenge first impressions with new information. So, if you’ve ever worried about leaving a bad first impression, don’t stress too much—people’s opinions can change. Just be careful with editing your photos too much, as it could lead others to form an overly positive view of your personal or professional image. This research is a reminder that looks aren’t everything, and people’s understanding of us can keep changing over time. Whether online or in person, the chance to change someone’s first impression is always there. 32. What does the “halo effect” feature? A. Judging easily by appearances. B. Benefiting from favorable comments. C. Seeking opinions from attractive people. D. Applying common beliefs to individuals. 33. Which was key to the viewers’ change in the judgement in the study? A. Extra advice on photography. B. A wide selection of digital tools. C. The use of popular social media sites. D. The clear example of image improvement. 34. What does the underlined word “malleable” in paragraph 5 mean? A. Foolish. B. Reliable. C. Changeable. D. Meaningful. 35. What advice on online image management does the author offer? A. Avoid unrealistic processing. B. Show more professional photos. C. Take traditional views on beauty. D. Add detailed comments on images. The Simple Trick Can Help You Sleep For those who can't sleep easily, prepare for the best night’s sleep ever. Slowing down your breathing forces the rhythm of your heart to slow down, too. ___38___ In other words, it’s a natural way to make you calm for your body and mind. “The theory is that by putting certain rhythms on the breath with your voluntary system, gradually these are made into the involuntary nervous system," he said. ___39___So it's the regularity of doing this over a period of weeks, months , years that produces the changes that you want.” There you go! ___40___ If you're still tossing and turning, don't miss these tips from sleep doctors which are almost guaranteed to give you a better night's sleep. He’d moved to England with his mum when he was three, and it had been 13 years since I’d last seen him. So imagine my delight when he emailed me saying he wanted to come to visit me. I was thrilled! The thought of finally reuniting with my son after so many years filled me with excitement and a sense of expectation. I couldn’t wait to catch up on all the lost time and share stories about our lives. On the day of our meeting, I arrived early at Byron Bay, the picturesque spot where we were supposed to meet. The bay was bathed in sunshine, with the gentle waves lapping against the shore, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. There was a pack of kayaks (皮划艇) about 150 meters off the shore, enjoying the beautiful day on the water. As I stood there, taking in the view, I noticed something unusual. One of the kayaks seemed to be in trouble. My instincts (本能) kicked in, and I felt a surge of concern. “Something’s not right!” I thought to myself. Without hesitation, I took off my T-shirt and dived into the water. The coolness of the ocean enveloped me as I swam towards the kayak. As I got closer, I could see that there were two instructors on board and a young man lying across the middle. He was shaking violently, clearly in trouble. The instructors were doing their best to handle the situation, but it was clear they needed help. I quickly linked arms with one of the instructors, and together we worked to carry the young man out of the water. The urgency of the situation drove us forward, and with combined efforts, we managed to bring him safely to the shore. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为80左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 As I looked at his face, something occurred to me. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 山师附中2024级高一下学期3月份阶段性检测 英语试题 注意事项: 1. When does the woman's performance start? A 【解析】 【原文】Last month, the headmaster of my school decided to set up a biology fair. He asked all the students to plan and make a project for the two-day fair. My group did an experiment to find out what happens to our teeth when we have sugary drinks. We used three eggs because their outer surfaces are similar to our teeth. We put them into different glasses with Cola, apple juice and plain water. Then we checked how their color changed and took pictures that we showed on a large white board in the hall. The other groups from my class worked on a lot of interesting projects, too. It was great to walk around the hall and look at the other students who were showing their projects. At last, the headmaster chose the top four projects and gave a prize to each of them. My group didn’t get a prize but that was not important to me. After all, we took part and had a great time together. 第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分) 阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。 A Learning two languages is no easy task, especially for kids. 【答案】21. B 22. D 23. A 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了四本针对儿童的书的情况。 【21题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“This is a book with a simple storyline. After Daniel finds an egg, he is very curious. What could be inside it? It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s probably not the second one! Whatever it is, kids can learn a good amount of vocabulary from this book, especially as it mentions some animals in both languages.(这是一本故事情节简单的书。丹尼尔发现一个鸡蛋后,他非常好奇。里面会有什么?它是一只鸟!这是一架飞机!这可能不是第二个!不管是什么,孩子们都可以从这本书中学到大量的词汇,尤其是它用两种语言提到了一些动物)”可知,丹尼尔的神秘蛋让孩子们的想象力自由发挥。故选B。 【22题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“This book follows the narrator (叙述者) on her visits to her grandparents. With her grandparents, she speaks English; but with her mother, she speaks Spanish. She is a Mexican American. There we can see the differences both in the languages and in the ways her grandparents and mother celebrate her birthday.(这本书讲述了叙述者拜访祖父母的故事。和祖父母在一起,她说英语;但她和妈妈说西班牙语。她是墨西哥裔美国人。在那里,我们可以看到语言和她的祖父母和母亲庆祝她生日的方式的差异)”可知,叙述者拜访她的祖父母说明了一些文化差异。故选D。 【23题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“It turns ordinary situations into unusual adventures that any child will love to read.(它把普通的情况变成了不寻常的冒险,任何孩子都会喜欢读)”以及最后一段“The book is full of action, and it tells a story children can enjoy from beginning to end.(这本书充满了惊险刺激的活动,它讲述了一个孩子们从头到尾都喜欢的故事)”可知,最后两本书的共同之处在于都有冒险情节。故选A。 B Like most couples, my husband and I dreamed of becoming homeowners. A Our old house was upgraded. D. Money. 【答案】24. C 25. B 26. D 27. B 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇记叙文。文章讲述作者从一个比较大公寓搬进小型公寓的原因。 【24题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第一段“Like most couples, my husband and I dreamed of becoming homeowners. Sure, apartment living comes with its own set of advantages—less housework, shared comfort, less to clean up and care for, and usually cheaper rent. As a result, we decided to downgrade from our neat five-bedroom, 2,700-square-foot house on the water to a three-bedroom, 1,369-square-foot apartment, with two kids.”(像大多数夫妻一样,我丈夫和我都梦想着拥有自己的房子。当然,公寓生活有它自己的优势——少家务,共享舒适,不用打扫和照顾,通常租金更便宜。因此,我们决定把这幢整洁的、有五间卧室、2700平方英尺的水上住宅降级为一套带两个孩子的、有三间卧室、1369平方英尺的公寓。)可知,作者的公寓变小了。故选C项。 【25题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第二段“Once we arrived in our new apartment, we were surprised to find that things flowed relatively smoothly. There was so much less to keep up with—fewer floors to mop, fewer windows to clean, fewer walls to wipe, etc. Now I think of our home as our little playhouse, since it's much smaller and everything is closer together. That also makes it so much easier for me to keep up with as a mom. I collect laundry all on one floor comparing with having to climb stairs to the house's second floor!”(我们一到新公寓,就惊讶地发现一切都还算顺利。要擦的地板少了,要擦的窗户少了,要擦的墙壁也少了,等等。现在我觉得我们的家就像我们的小玩具屋,因为它比以前小得多,而且所有东西都靠得更近。这也让我更容易跟上作为一个母亲的步伐。比起爬楼梯到房子的第二层,我在同一层收集所有的衣服!)可推知,作者夫妻两对新公寓大为惊奇,认为很适合他们。故选B项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章倒数第二段“In our new home, we use lots of shoe organizers inside of every closet door for more than just shoes—baby items, office items, and medicines. We also have a functional room that serves as an office and gym. Since both my husband and I work from home, we require at least one room to share as an office with fitness equipment fitted into a corner.”(在我们的新家中,我们在每个壁橱门内使用大量的鞋子整理器,而不仅仅是鞋子——婴儿用品,办公用品和药品。我们还设有一间用作办公室和健身房的多功能室。 由于我和丈夫都在家工作,因此我们至少需要一个房间作为办公室共享,角落里装有健身器材。)可知,作者夫妻对新家做出改变主要是为了充分利用空间。故选D项。 【27题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章最后一段“While many people choose to downsize for financial reasons, that actually wasn't a factor in our decision. We wanted to be in a lively area with like-minded young families. That was our first priority.”(尽管许多人出于经济原因选择缩小规模,但这实际上并不是我们做出决定的因素。我们希望与志趣相投的年轻家庭一起生活在一个热闹的地区。 那是我们的首要任务。)可知,搬家时,作者夫妇首先关心的是希望能和志趣相投的年轻家庭一起生活在一个热闹的地区。故选B项。 C Sarah Parcak is not an average archaeologist (考古学家). She uses satellite images to locate Egyptian sites that have been lost through the passage of time. 【答案】28. D 29. B 30. B 31. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了考古学家萨拉·帕卡克利用科学技术来研究地理学。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“After spending weekends with her grandfather examining aerial (空中的) photographs through his special image-viewing equipment, she decided to take her first remote sensing course in college. Through the course, she learned the use of satellites to search for and collect information about the earth.(周末,她和祖父一起用特殊的图像观看设备查看航拍照片,之后她决定在大学里修第一堂遥感课程。通过这门课程,她学会了使用卫星来搜索和收集地球的信息)”可知,使用相关工具的实践促使莎拉研究遥感。故选D。 【29题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“It’s something very old and basic. It is such an attractive idea that we can use this amazing technology to seek, find, and explore stuff better and to understand our world.(这是一个非常有吸引力的想法,我们可以利用这项惊人的技术来更好地寻找、发现和探索事物,并了解我们的世界)”可知,萨拉有探索精神。故选B。 【30题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第四段“By using satellite imagery, she can locate sites that would otherwise take decades to uncover. Less than 1% of ancient Egyptian sites have been dug up, meaning most of this rich history remains hidden. Satellites provide a way to discover small differences in soil, plants, and ground conditions, making it possible to find what lies beneath the surface. Sarah views satellite imagery as a super tool that allows archaeologists to uncover mysteries difficult to explore with normal eyes.(通过使用卫星图像,她可以定位原本需要几十年才能发现的遗址。只有不到1%的古埃及遗址被挖掘出来,这意味着大部分丰富的历史仍然隐藏着。卫星提供了一种发现土壤、植物和地面条件的微小差异的方法,使发现地表下的东西成为可能。萨拉认为卫星图像是一种超级工具,可以让考古学家发现用正常眼睛难以探索的谜团)”可知,第四段主要讲的是科技在发现历史中的作用。故选B。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段“Sarah believes studying geography helps us better view our world and the world around us. “You can look at cities. You can look at rivers. You can look at archaeology. But I think it is also about looking at the interaction and influence, because you can never study one thing,” she says.(Sarah认为学习地理有助于我们更好地看待我们的世界和我们周围的世界。 “你可以看看城市。 你可以看看河流。 你可以看看考古学。 但我认为这也是关于看待互动和影响,因为你永远无法学习一件事,”她说)”可知,莎拉觉得地理学不仅仅是单独观察城市、河流或考古遗址,还需要关注它们之间的相互作用和影响,由此可知,萨拉觉得地理学习需要探索联系。故选C。 D First impressions can be powerful. A. No more tossing and turning into the early hours of the morning. No more counting sheep on Sunday evenings. And no more lying, wide-eyed, in the dark after waking up in the middle of the night. ___36___ This all-natural solution is called the 4-7-8 method, and yes, it’s as simple as it sounds. First, get settled into a comfortable position on your bed. Then, simply breathe in air through your nose for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds, and then breathe the air out slowly through your mouth for eight more seconds. ___37___ That's all there is to it! Don't believe us? Just ask Harvard-educated medical doctor Andrew Weil, who adopted this exercise from a centuries-long Indian yogi meditation practice. The yogis use this method to achieve a state of complete relaxation, reducing stress and anxiety. A. And that comes with time. B. Finally , repeat until you fall asleep. C. It makes the rest of your body relax. D. That enables you to fall asleep more easily. E. Here comes the explanation for your sleepless nights. F. Once you start sticking to it, you can quit counting sheep for good. G. There's now an easy and expert-approved way to fall asleep in less than a minute. G 37. B 38. C 39. A 40. 【36题详解】 根据划线前句“And no more lying , wide-eyed , in the dark after waking up in the middle of the night.(再也不用躺着,睁大眼睛,在半夜醒来后的黑暗中)”可知,对于晚上睡不好觉的问题,作者认为已经找到了解决方案了。 同时G项中的“an easy and expert-approved way to fall asleep”指代的后文中提及的“This all-natural solution is called the 4-7-8 method.(这种纯天然的解决方法被称为4-7-8法)”。故选G项。 【37题详解】 根据划线前句提及“Then, simply breathe in air through your nose for four seconds, hold your breath for seven seconds, and then breathe the air out slowly through your mouth for eight more seconds.(然后,简单地用鼻子吸气4秒,屏住呼吸7秒,然后再用嘴慢慢地呼气8秒)”可知,此处在阐述前文提及的4-7-8助眠法。 和“Then,…..” 【38题详解】 根据划线前句提及“Slowing down your breathing forces the rhythm of your heart to slow down, too.(放慢你的呼吸也会迫使你的心跳节奏放慢)”可知,放慢呼吸能让你的心跳节奏也放慢。 【39题详解】 根据划线后文“So it's the regularity of doing this over a period of weeks, months, years that produces the changes that you want.(因此,在数周,数月,数年的时间内进行此操作的规律性会产生你想要的更改)”可知,进行此助眠法需要时间的练习。 故选A项。 When my aunt's children were small, she decided to get them a puppy. The instructors were doing their best to handle the situation, but it was clear they needed help.
