[2022一2023重庆市三峡名校联盟高二下春季联考]The Moon is attracting much attention these days as
NASA is ready for its Artemis I launch and preparing for more to follow. The mission's objectives are clear:
develop a sustainable presence on its surface and pave the way to go to Mars.
And then what? What's the next great leap in humans'quest for the secrets of the universe? When it comes to
scientific exploration in the near future, there are a few areas of the solar system that will be receiving some special
attention.
First off there is Venus,a planet which was a relative paradise(天堂),with oceans and a pleasant
atmosphere.Something went terribly wrong there a few billion years ago,and NASA has scheduled a series of
missions to explore what exactly is going on there.
At the other end are the gas giants.Several of the satellites of Jupiter and Saturn are covered with thick sheets
of ice,and underneath that ice sit oceans of liquid water.NASA has missions planned to investigate those
mysterious worlds, hunting for any signs of possible life hidden deep within.
As for us humans,Mars is certainly the grand prize in the coming decades. If we have the adequate drive and
funds,we can establish a semi-permanent presence on the red planet, keeping crews working and studying in
person on the Martian surface. The other planets of our solar system are not so suitable for people to settle on.
Mercury is too close to the Sun for comfort and too far away from the Earth.
Over the coming decades, humans expect to see a rise of"space hotels",set up for visiting tourists and
scientific explorations.Naturally, turning the space rock into a habitat for humans is not very practical considering
our current level of technological maturity, but in my best estimation,it's the next easiest thing to accomplish, after
the Moon and Mars,of course.
1.What does the underlined word"quest"probably mean in the second paragraph?
A.Question.
B.Explanation.
C.Request.
D.Search.
2.Which is the least likely to be explored in the next decades according to the passage?
A.Mars.
B.Mercury.
C.Venus.
D.Jupiter.
3.What's the author's attitude towards "space hotels"?
A.Ambiguous.
B.Critical.
C.Hopeful.
D.Indifferent.
4.What's the passage mainly about?
A.The launch of Artemis 1.
B.The secrets of the solar system.
C.The missions of NASA.
D.The areas of future universe exploration.

[2022-2023浙江省杭、嘉、湖、金四县区高二下5月调研测试]0 n September26,2022,NASA successfully
completed its Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART)mission by intentionally crashing an unmanned spacecraft
into the asteroid Dimorphos. The goal was not to destroy the asteroid but to change its orbit. With the successful
mission,NASA proved the concept that this technique could keep a potentially dangerous asteroid from crashing
into Earth in the future.
Dimorphos is a small asteroid orbiting the larger asteroid Didymos.NASA noted that Dimorphos is not a threat
to Earth, but because it passes relatively close to Earth,it was chosen as the target for the test mission.
Although the intended crash should change the asteroid's position slightly,it will add to a major shift over
time."If you were going to do this for planetary defense, you would do it 5,10,15,or 20 years in
advance for this technique to work,"said NASA program executive Andrea Riley."This is why we test.We want
to do it now rather than when there's an actual need.
Asteroids can pose a significant threat to planet Earth. For example, around 66 million years ago,an asteroid
around 6 to 9 miles across struck the Earth in what is now the Yucatan Peninsula. The resulting impact was so
catastrophic (that it caused one of the largest extinction events in Earth's history. Therefore,DARTs
success is an important step forward in protecting the planet from potential damage from an asteroid. This shows
humans are no longer powerless to prevent this type of natural disaster.
The DART spacecraft was launched by NASA on November 24,2021.It was accompanied by another craft
called LICIA Cube, supplied by the Italian Space Agency, and separated from DART just 15 days before the crash.
LICIA Cube remained in orbit around the asteroid and took photographs of the crash and material ejected (
from the asteroid's surface.
1.What is the purpose of the DART mission?
A.To destroy Dimorphos completely.
B.To change the orbit of Dimorphos.
C.To track potentially dangerous asteroids.
D.To stop Dimorphos from hitting Earth.
2.Why does the author mention the example in paragraph 4?
A.To prove the significance of DAR'T's success.
B.To present the cause of the largest extinction event in history.
C.To show the necessity of conducting research on natural disasters.
D.To explain the difficulty of protecting Earth from asteroid strikes.

[2022-2023江苏省扬州中学高二下月考]China's telescope, planned to be launched at the end of2023,is
expected to provide humankind with fresh knowledge about distant galaxies, mysterious dark matter, and the past
and future evolution of the universe.
Chinese Survey Space Telescope (CSST),also known as Xuntian Space Telescope,is a space-based optical
()observatory for astronomers to carry out sky surveys, capturing a general map or images of the sky.
The CSST is a bus-sized facility with a length equal to that of a three-storied building. It has an aperture
of two meters,a bit smaller than the Hubble Space Telescope, but its field of view is 350 times larger than
Hubble in area."The field of view is the area of the sky a telescope can see at one time,"said Li Ran,a project
scientist of the CSST Scientific Data Reduetion System."Hubble's field of view is approximately one percent of the
size of a fingernail at an arm's length, thereby the telescope,in its thirties, observed only a tiny part of the sky.
Li added.
The telescope, during its normal observations, will fly independently in the same orbit as China's space station
but will maintain a large distance apart.Li said the telescope was designed,in its initial plan,to be placed on the
space station, but there would be disadvantages such as vibration, potential pollution and line-of-sight block from
the space station. The CSST can land on the space station for refueling and servicing as needed.
"The telescope can bring China's research in optical astronomy to the forefront of the world and help cultivate
(world-class Chinese scientists,"Li noted."It can also take breathtaking visible pictures, allowing the
public to directly feel and understand the universe."

A.Getting a general map of Earth.
B.Aiding sky investigation.
C.Refueling the Chinese space station.
D.Providing support for the universe evolution.
6.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.The visual field of Hubble.
B.The usable life span of a telescope.
C.The advantages of the CSST.
D.The size of the aperture of Xuntian.

关键词Chang'e-4,moon,living things
[2022一2023广东省湛江市高二下月考]China's Chang'e-4 lander touched down on the far side of the moon
on Jan 3rd Beijing time, and it's got some living things on board.
A small "tin"in the lander contains seeds of potatoes and rock-cress-a flowering plant,as well as silkworm
eggs. The idea is that the plants will support the silkworms with oxygen, and the silkworms will in turn provide the
plants with necessary carbon dioxide and nutrients through their waste. The researchers will watch the plants
carefully to see whether the plants successfully perform photosynthesis(光合作用),grow and bloom in the lunar
environment.
The "biosphere"experiment was the product of a cooperation between 28 Chinese universities, led by
southwest China's Chongqing University, according to Xinhua. The experiment is stuffed inside a 0.8 liter
aluminum alloy cylinder (which weighs about 3 kilograms and includes dirt, nutrients and water.Sunlight
will filter into the container through a "tube",and small cameras will watch the little environment. That data will
be sent back to Earth by means of the complicated relay system China has set up to communicate with an experiment
that has no direct line of sight to Earth.
"Why potato and rock-cress?Because the growth period of rock-cress is short and convenient to observe. And
potatoes could become a major source of food for future space travellers,"said Liu Hanlong, chief director of the
experiment and vice president of Chongqing University."Our experiment might help accumulate knowledge for
building a lunar base and long-term residence on the moon."
Rock-cress has been grown in space before, including in one experiment on the International Space Station that
showed the plants'leaves appearing to rise and fall as they detected the moon's gravity. But whether the flowering
plant will grow well in the environment of the far side of the moon remains an open question. For now, though, this
means there's life in at least one other place in the solar system because of China.
1.Why were the silkworm eggs brought along?
A.To produce silk.
B.To absorb carbon dioxide.
C.To help the seeds grow faster.
D.To create a micro ecosystem.
2.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.How the experiment works.
B.The product of the experiment.
C.Why the experiment was conducted.
D.The cooperation between the 28 universities.
