Passage 1
(2024·高二下·湖南衡阳期中)
Summer vacation was finally coming, and Rose couldn’t wait to have a trip with her parents. She recalled the joyful experiences they shared last summer, which filled her with excitement for the upcoming holiday.
“Girls!” Rose heard her father calling. She raced to her big sister’s room, telling her that Dad was calling them, and they rushed downstairs log either. Dad put his arm around Mom and told them that they were going on a trip to the Virunga Mountains of Africa. There were three national parks that they would visit.
Rose and Gina looked at each other. “What?” they said with one voice. Mom told them it would be really exciting to go there on a trip. At 12 years old, Rose would prefer going to an amusement park or a beach. She thought it important to let her parents know she didn’t want to go there but to the beach for a week or two.
“Well,” said Dad, “I have to go for an assignment for the paper. We’re covering the mountain gorillas (大猩猩) because they’re critically endangered these years. So, I thought it’d also be a great place to take a vacation. I’m sure it’ll be very educational for you girls.”
Gina let out a sigh, unable to contain her disappointment. She wanted to say something but Mom interrupted and announced that the trip was set on the next Monday.
“Sit down, both of you.” Dad had on his severe look. “Girls, it’s important for you to know about the world around you. This is a wonderful chance for you to experience and learn an amazing place. Do you know anything about the mountain gorillas?”
The sisters shook their heads.
“Well, get your laptop computer, Gina. I want you to look them up right now,” said Dad, “Rose, there is a book on the bookshelf about the cute mountain gorillas. Find it and read it.”

Passage 2
(2024高二下·浙江台州·期中)
This new little stepsister is getting on my nerves. She won’t stop talking. What was Dad trying to prove with this family vacation? We can’t instantly become the ideal family. I just became a teenager, and Christina is only 8 years old.
Dad and I finished putting up the large tent. Then I walked back to the car for my backpack, only to knock a pink one to the ground. Before I could pick it up, Christina appeared. “Why’d you throw my stuff on the ground?” she roared.
After lunch, Dad suggested I take Christina to see the sequoia pines (红杉松树), circling on the map where giant sequoias were.
I jammed the map into my pocket and then set off. When I glanced back at Christina, all I saw was a pink cap. I shook my head. Dad and my new stepmom were crazy if they thought we’d instantly bond. I was not ready to be a big brother.
As we walked the along trail, the forest canopy (树冠) became thicker, blocking out direct sunlight, making the temperature drop slightly.
“You warm enough?” I asked. She nodded but didn’t look at me. I noticed her hands had got completely covered with the sap (汁液) of a plant. I took a hand wipe from my pack and wiped her hands.
Reaching a small hill, we climbed up it. Sunshine filled the meadow (草地) below. I could see the tops of sequoia pines popping out above the forest on the other side. I pointed them out excitedly to Christina and finally saw a smile light her face.
“Come on, Sean!” She grabbed my hand and pulled me down into the meadow. Then I saw it, sitting on a rock in the middle of the field: a brown-colored bear cub (幼熊).

Passage 3
(2024高二下·广东广州·期中)
Looking back at my life, I found that the most important event occurred when I was in 4th grade.
From the beginning of the semester, I started learning dancing every Saturday, but I didn’t do well in the first few months. Mrs. Smith, my dancing teacher, also my music teacher in my school, kept teaching me and helped me with every movement. But it always enhanced too slowly. I began to give up and canceled this class. A few days later, we had a music class at school. We sang songs while Mrs. Smith was playing piano. The beautiful melody suffused the whole classroom. Everyone was very earnest, looking up the teacher and following the rhythm. Although I was not good at sharing, I was singing really hard. All the things in this classroom seemed very harmonious.
We had a free class after singing. We just sat on our chairs and talked to each other. And Mrs. Smith started to talk about the school choir that she led very well.
I’ve seen some members before, who are excellent and graceful. I was imagining if one day I join in the school choir that will be really awesome: we have competitions every month; we do great performance every time; we get popular in our school. Those were just my imagination. I don’t think one day I can be one of the dancers. Just then, Mrs. Smith said my name in the class, “Angelina was in my dancing class. She was really hard-working and tough. I hope she could rejoin in my class and practice more to be a member of the school choir.”
Everyone turned back and looked at me with amazed faces. I turned tomato red. Mrs. Smith was pleased to laugh. We had a really silent moment. And then the bell rang, the students began to leave. There’s a girl walking up to me with some of her friends. Her name is Carrie, who is a piano player and also recommended to join the school choir. She faced me, and said to her friends: “Do you think she can really join the school choir? It’s unbelievable!” Her friends threw her a faint smile. I didn’t even react for this brief moment, and they left.

Passage 4
(2024高二下·浙江·期中)
A few days ago, the teacher announced the list of candidates for the swimming team. Since I knew I didn’t qualify for the swim team, I’ve been feeling frustrated. I clearly knew that I had to wait a whole year to try out again that might as well be a million years. During that time, when I returned home, I just locked myself in my bedroom.
Dad knew I was feeling down. Without comforting or encouraging me directly, he said it was time for me to help in the kitchen last Sunday. To be honest, I couldn’t imagine what help I could offer. Moreover, my dad is a postman and he doesn’t seem like the kind of guy who would bake great bread. Still, I followed right behind him. Dad got out the flour and milk and intended to teach me how to make the bread, which seemed to be a huge challenge for me and demanded a great amount of energy.
Dad mixed the milk and flour to make the dough. The first step almost exhausted my patience. Next came the most difficult but amusing part — doing nothing. We waited for an hour for the dough to slowly swell and double in size. Then we beat the risen dough down to let the air out, divided it into two and waited for another hour. “Take your time. Don’t rush to put the dough directly into the oven, but if you do, the bread will be hard.” Dad explained As the flour dust in the kitchen quietly settled, time didn’t seem to matter. The dough was going to rise at its own pace.

Passage 5
(2024高二下·安徽宣城·期中)
Last summer vacation, I traveled to Sanya in Hainan, China. When my dad told me one of the items on the journey would be one of the highest water slides (水上滑梯) in Asia, I asked my dad repeatedly whether I could stay at home. But my dad said that I would love it and we should go together.
Three days later, I was standing in front of that water slide in Atlantics Waterpark. The slide was located in a building. When I looked up at the tens of thousands of stairs leading to the peak of the building, I thought to myself, “If I fall from that place, I will definitely die.”
As we started climbing the stairs, I saw three words on the wall: Leap of Faith. I had never heard of these words, and at that time they reminded me of Road to Death. Five meters, ten meters ... I looked down and thought, “I am going to die today.” Fifteen meters, twenty meters ... I thought about the many things I hadn’t done and asked my dad whether I had life insurance. Twenty-five meters, thirty meters ... and we were finally at the top, ready to jump into the slide. I looked at the three people next to me and thought, “These are the last three people I will see in my life.”
Suddenly, the teenage boy ahead of me stopped in front of the slide and turned around, “Look down there. If we fall into the shark tank, we will be eaten by those hungry sharks.” We all paused and looked down at the shark tank above the slide tunnel. Just then, a younger boy next to me said, “Excuse me, if you don’t want to go now, I will go first.” Then he walked past the teenage boy and me and jumped into the slide, disappearing in an instant.
My father said to me jokingly, “Look, that boy is not even half of your height. Come on, Selina. You can do it.” The teenager turned and stared at me too, “Now, you go first.”Paragraph 1:
With a deep breath, I stepped closer to the edge of the slide.

Passage 6
(2024高二下·河南南阳·期中)
Bella had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldn’t help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she gave a sigh and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?” “Oh, yes, but I don’t have money on me,” she replied.
“That’s nothing. I’ll treat you today,” said the man. “Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, the smell so attractive. As she was eating, Bella cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing. Actually, I was just touched by your kindness!” said Bella as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless compared to a stranger!” Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”
Bella sat there, speechless and numb with shock; she remembered her mother’s familiar face and weathered hands. “Why didn’t I think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel grateful. Why haven’t I thanked my mum for what she has done for me?” On the way home, Bella made up her mind to make an apology to her mother for her rudeness.

Passage 1
(2025高二上·广东深圳·期中)
Kathy’s family vacation to the beach was usually the highlight of her summer. This year, however, her parents announced a new rule: no phones for the entire week.
“But my friends will be expecting updates about the trip,” Kathy complained. Kathy’s mom gave her a serious look. Unwillingly, Kathy handed her phone over and her mom locked it away in her room.
The drive to the beach house took most of the day. As they turned off the highway onto country back roads, the clouds darkened. Rain started to pour. “Even more beautiful in the rain,” her mother said. “What do you think, Kathy?” Kathy glared at her mom. “Beautiful,” she muttered.
That night after dinner, Kathy wandered into the kitchen, where her father was washing dishes. She gave her father a loving look and said in her sweetest voice, “Couldn’t I have my phone back, just for one second? Just so I can tell everyone what an amazing time I’m having?”
“Can’t,” he said. “It’s not here. Remember?” Kathy was very annoyed. Having nothing better to do, she examined the dusty bookcase in the living room. The books looked as dull as the weather. On the top shelf, however, she spotted a puzzle. She took it, emptied the pieces on the table, and began to sort them.
After what seemed like a few minutes, she looked up. It was past ten o’clock. She had been working for almost two hours! She yawned. The puzzle was less than half done, but she was exhausted. So, she went to bed.
When Kathy awoke the next morning, she jumped out of bed and threw open the curtains. A blazing sun was rising over the blue ocean. The sky was cloudless. The scene reminded Kathy of a photo that her friend Betty had recently sent her.
This view was even better. It would leave everyone speechless. Kathy dashed to her bedside table and reached for her phone. But there was nothing there. She sighed. Still, she wandered in front of the window, admiring the sunrise.
After a quick breakfast, Kathy headed to the beach. Under no circumstances had Kathy expected the scenery to be so spectacular! With the sea wind blowing against her face, Kathy totally lost herself in the stunning views.

Passage 2
(2025高二上·江西·阶段练习)
Eric, my husband, and I are enthusiastic hikers. We are attracted by the challenge and beauty of mountain trails (小路), especially those that lead to sites of historical and cultural significance. Our love for hiking began shortly after we were married, and it has been a passion of ours for many years.
Last month, we visited a national park with the intention of hiking to a location known for its stone text. After many difficulties, we found only one site within the park was open to visitors. To enjoy the stone text in the mountains, we needed to finish a 2.5-mile path, which started from the museum of the park. 2.5 miles didn’t sound like a very long hike. We were both just in our seventies but fairly fit, and we thought we could easily do 2.5 miles. However, the worker in the museum warned us that the first mile of the path was steep (陡峭的) and rocky and that it could be very challenging. But we ignored her warning and made up our minds to go.
“2.5 miles is not a big deal. Surely, we could do it if we wear proper boots and start early tomorrow morning,” I whispered to my husband lightheartedly.
The next morning, my husband and I got up early. Before starting our hike, we first reached a place that served breakfast. There, we found a family of three, a young man named Walter, his wife and sister. They would also take the path to watch the stone text. They were warm and friendly and we chatted happily for a while. Before they set off, Walter said that he would see us at the stairs, and we thought no more about it. Twenty minutes later, we also started hiking.
The trail started well and it was pretty much downhill all the way. Then it became more and more challenging. The path became extremely steep and was blocked here and there by huge slippery (湿滑的) rocks, which made each step forward an adventure.

Passage 4
(2025高二上·河南驻马店·阶段练习)
A young girl named Nova had always been fascinated by space travel and dreamed of exploring the stars one day. She spent hours reading books about the planets and galaxies and her room was filled with star charts in models of spacecraft. Nova also loved to repair machines. Always curious about how things worked, she would take apart gadgets (小器具) and put them back together. She even built her own telescope to look up at the night sky. Her parents encouraged her curiosity, gifting her a comprehensive engineering kit on her 10th birthday. Nova spent countless hours mastering the kit, learning everything from basic circuitry (电路) to complex mechanical systems.
One day, she signed up for the “Little Astronaut Simulation (模拟) Competition”. The selection process was strict, but Nova’s professional skills in mechanics helped her a lot. What’s more, during her training, Nova learned more complex skills. Fortunately, Nova succeeded. She was selected to join a team of simulation astronauts on a mission to explore a distant planet. Nova was excited and she brought along her toolkit just in case and hoped that her skills could contribute to the mission.
As the spaceship flew through the galaxy, Nova admired breathtaking views of stars and planets. She felt weightless and free, like she was flying through the universe. The crew members bonded over shared stories in the dreams, each bringing a unique skill set to the team. Nova quickly became the go-to person for any technical issues. She believed that her toolkit and knowledge would provide invaluable service during the journey.
Later, the team encountered a problem. The simulation spaceship’s engine malfunctioned and they became trapped in space. They were running out of oxygen and supplies, and the nearest planet was light years away. Many of them were scared and unsure of what to do.
But Nova refused to be afraid. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Passage 5
(2025高二上·辽宁·期末)
Once in a remote village, there lived a teenage girl, named Maya. She had a dream — to become an astronaut and explore the vastness of space. However, many doubted her dream because they thought it was unrealistic for someone with their poor background. In this village, there was no one daring to have this dream which was beyond the wildest dream.
However, Maya was not defeated by the doubt, she dedicated herself to her studies. She bought many volumes of books on astronomy from the faraway libraries. In the beginning, her parents just let go of her crazy passion, but gradually her efforts amazed them. With their support, she even tried to find opportunities online to attend science camps, and sought guidance from mentors (导师). Maya’s passion for space grew stronger with each passing day, fueling her determination to overcome any difficulties in her path.
As Maya approached her final year of high school, an opportunity arose — a famous scholarship that offered a chance to study astrophysics (天体物理学) at a famous university. Maya knew that this scholarship could be her ticket to achieving her dreams.
The scholarship selection process was strict, testing candidates’ knowledge, skills, and talent. Maya poured countless hours into preparation, expanding her knowledge and improving her abilities.
When the day of the scholarship interview arrived, Maya faced a group of professors and experts in the field. Nervously, she answered their questions and shared her passion for space exploration.
Weeks turned into months as Maya awaited the scholarship results. Doubts and anxieties stuck in her mind, but she reminded herself of the importance of perseverance. She continued to believe in herself and her abilities, refusing to let setbacks define her journey.
Finally, the day of the scholarship announcement arrived. Maya’s heart raced as the names were called one by one. As the last name echoed in the room, Maya’s heart sank — it wasn’t hers.

Passage 6
(2025高二下·河北张家口·阶段练习)
Leo, my middle child, was blessed with remarkable intelligence and striking good looks. However, he always sees the cup of life as half empty. Every day when he came home from school, he would list everything bad that happened that day!
On his ninth birthday, we saved enough money to take the family to Disneyland for two days. At that time, his father and I didn’t have a high income. The expense for this trip was quite significant, yet we firmly believed that it was worth it to celebrate Leo’s birthday in this way. After doing Disneyland to death (玩够了), we returned to our hotel room, all exhausted. And I asked the birthday boy, “Did you have fun today, Leo?”
All my fault-finding son could say to me was “Pirates (海盗) of the Caribbean was closed!” “Leo Marshall,” I was clearly unable to contain my anger, “we stood in line for an hour and a half to see The Haunted Mansion. We rode Space Mountain three times. We spent two days playing in the park, and all you can say is, Pirates of the Caribbean was closed?” Clearly, something had to be done about his negative attitude and I was going to be the one to do it!
I was determined to help him. I read every article and bought every book. With the help of great resources, I found my son had the tendency to see the worst in every situation. My research told me that people with negativity have an emotional need for order and sensitivity. That meant I needed to listen to my son’s daily pessimistic reports. My usual reaction was to try to talk Leo out of his negativity, but that wouldn’t satisfy his need for sensitivity, so I had to let him finish his complaints and ask what good things happened. Then I needed to wait until he could tell me. This would help Leo realize that good things really were happening to him.

Passage 7
(2025高二上·河北邢台·期末)
When I was very young, my parents and I moved from China to the United States because my father was appointed as manager of the American branch. At first, everything seemed strange and overwhelming. The language barrier was the toughest part, but slowly, I adapted to my new surroundings and became fluent in English. School became easier, friends were made, and life in America started to feel like being at home.
However, my parents had different ideas. They insisted that we speak Chinese at home. They even went as far as to teach me Chinese characters and make me read classic Chinese literature. I remember spending long hours every weekend practicing writing characters, my hand cramping (抽筋) from the effort. My parents would quiz me on my vocabulary, and I’d have to recite poems and passages from ancient texts. At the time, I couldn’t understand why they were so determined about it. I often resisted, frustrated by the difficulty and wondering why I had to hold onto something that seemed irrelevant to my life in the US.
My father would patiently explain, “Although we’re living in the US, we mustn’t forget our roots. Our language is a part of who we are.” Despite his explanations, my teenage mind was too stubborn to appreciate his wisdom. He would sit with me, showing me the strokes (笔画) of each character, explaining their meanings, and sharing stories about our ancestors. His voice was calm and encouraging, even when I grew impatient and wanted to give up. “These characters carry our history,” he would say. “They tell the story of where we come from.”
As I grew older, my perspective started to shift. The more I learned about my heritage and our family’s history, the more I began to value the efforts my parents had made to keep our culture alive.

Passage 8
December strode (阔步走) into the mountains of Colorado, shooting snowflakes and blowing them into a thick blanket of white. As Christmas approached, the farmers there closed down most wooden houses for a holiday cheer. Not all were closed, however. There was still work to be done, and someone had to stay. That someone was Slim Carter.
Old Jake, another farmer there, had offered to keep him company, but Slim shook his head. “After all, a young man like me has got plenty of Christmases ahead,” Slim joked. Before Jake offered to stay again, Slim hurried on. “I’ll just have a private Christmas this year, and that’s the way I want it.” So he was left alone at the house. Alone, with his horse in the farm and the wolves roaring in the forest nearby.
Truth was, Slim had decided not to celebrate Christmas at all. It wasn’t that he didn’t like Christmas. In fact, his Christmas memories were good ones. His mother would fill their house with the light of candles and the smell of candy. His father would make their Christmas tree hunt an all-day, men-only affair. Slim smiled as he remembered sitting on the broad back of their horse with the freshly cut tree along behind. Back home, they would cover the tree with paper snowflakes and homemade decorations and sing all the Christmas songs they knew. And that’s the way he liked it. Those were the memories he pulled out on nights when he was working alone. Such memories warmed him inside, even if his outsides were aching with cold.
This was Slim’s first year away from home. “Christmas is nothing if not spent with family,” Slim declared to the empty house. That was the real reason he’d sent Jake away. He figured he would handle Christmas better if he just pretended it was an ordinary winter workday.
But on Christmas Eve, as Slim headed back with snow beneath his feet and stars overhead, his head hung low. It was Christmas, even without the tree and the gifts. Christmas, and he was all alone.

【答案】
The girls dragged their feet upstairs. They reluctantly complied with their father’s instructions. Gina opened her laptop and began searching for information on mountain gorillas, while Rose found the book and started flipping through the pages, hoping to find something that would spark her interest. As she flipped through the pages, she saw pictures of the gorillas and read about their habitats and behaviors. Meanwhile, Gina was discovering fascinating facts and watching videos of the gentle giants in their natural environment.
The next Monday came and the family set out excitedly. As the plane took off, Rose tried to put aside her initial reluctance and immerse herself in the adventure. The journey was filled with new sights and sounds, and Rose gradually found herself fascinated by the unique ecosystem of the Virunga Mountains. She observed the gorillas from a safe distance, marveled at their strength and agility, and was humbled by their place in the natural world.

【答案】Cute as it seemed, I knew it was dangerous. I immediately grabbed Christina’s hand and whispered to her, “Don’t move suddenly or make any loud noises.” She nodded, her eyes wide with fear. Luckily, the bear cub seemed to have no interest in us and continued playing on the rock. Keeping an eye on it, we slowly made our way back to the trail. Once we were a safe distance away, I let out a sigh of relief. “Wow, It’s so cute!” Christina exclaimed, a smile returning to her face. “Yeah, but we need to remember that they can be dangerous,” I reminded her. “We should always keep a safe distance.”
Still keeping a tight hold on her hand, we walked on along the trail marked on our map. Christina’s lively chatter filled the air as she excitedly shared her love for animals and dreams of her future. With every step we took, I found myself growing fond of her company. Perhaps this family vacation wasn’t such a bad idea after all. As we ventured further along the trail, I made a mental note to be more patient with Christina and try to bond with her during our time together. From the depths of my heart, I was ready to embrace the role of a loving big brother.

【答案】
Within the time, I felt that there’s a strong force striking my pride. Carrie’s words echoed in my mind, and I couldn’t shake off the feeling of doubt she had planted. However, instead of letting it discourage me, I decided to use it as motivation. I started practicing even harder, dedicating extra hours to perfecting my dance moves and vocal skills. Mrs. Smith noticed my determination and offered to give me private lessons after school.
Finally, because of my perseverance and efforts, I joined the school choir. The day I received the acceptance letter, I felt a surge of pride and accomplishment. Carrie and her friends were surprised, but they couldn’t deny the improvement I had made. Performing with the choir was an unforgettable experience, and it taught me the value of hard work and believing in oneself. Mrs. Smith’s encouragement and my relentless practice had paid off, and I realized that I could achieve anything I set my mind to.

【答案1】
My father smiled and said, “It’s your turn to complete the remaining steps.” Uncertain about whether I could bake the bread successfully, I said nothing but shook my head. Tapping my shoulder gently, dad encouraged me to have a try with “bread spirit”. With my dad’s inspiration, although I was a bit confused about the so-called “bread spirit”, I decided to make an effort to complete the remaining steps. Standing beside the oven, instead of hurriedly taking out of the bread, I patiently observed the change of the dough and adjusted the level of attainment. The waiting time was not as long as I had imagined before. In the oven, the ordinary and even ugly dough gradually turned into a loaf of inviting bread.
When I tasted the bread, I seemed to understand the meaning of “bread spirit”. All the waiting was worthwhile the moment I saw the result. Curving into a bright smile, I held the bread and uttered, “The process of baking is similar to the swimming practice, and the most essential part of ‘bread spirit’ is the patience.” Upon hearing my words, my dad smiled with relief and gave me a thumbs up. Former aimlessness and frustration gave way to determination and confidence. Keeping the “bread spirit” in mind, I made a decision to practice persistently and enhance my basic skills patiently. The following few months witnessed my efforts for the next swimming team try-out.
【答案2】
My father smiled and said, “It’s your turn to complete the remaining steps.” Feeling a mix of apprehension and curiosity, I took over the final stages of bread-making and carefully put the dough into the oven. The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen as I patiently watched the dough transform. Gradually, the previous disappointment with the swim team was replaced by a sense of focus and purpose. Seeing it rise and take on a golden hue provided a healing escape, allowing me to channel my emotions into creating something touchable. The bread finally ready, I eagerly sliced a warm piece, revealing the soft interior with a satisfying crunch.
When I tasted the bread, I seemed to understand the meaning of “bread spirit”. The act of waiting for the dough to rise symbolized the importance of allowing things to unfold naturally and allowing myself the time to develop and mature before taking on new challenges. I savored the last crumbs of the bread, throwing a knowing wink to my father who was wearing an understanding smile. The next months witnessed me practice more intensely than ever before, pushing myself to improve my techniques and endurance. The support and encouragement from my family, especially my father, propelled me forward even in the toughest days. I knew regardless of the outcome, I had already won — I had rediscovered the “bread spirit” within me.

Paragraph 2:
A moment later, my father came down.

【答案】
With a deep breath, I stepped closer to the edge of the slide. The sunlight reflected off the water below, making it seem both inviting and threatening. I closed my eyes, crossed my legs, wrapped my arms around myself, and took that “Leap of Faith”. Initially, the drop was terrifying, and I could feel my heart racing. As I swung through the slide’s twists and turns, fear became a thrill of excitement. It took me only several seconds to get to the bottom of the slide, marking the end of the highest water slide adventure in Asia.
A moment later, my father came down. There was a note of excitement on his face. The teenage boy from before, who had warned me about the sharks, arrived next, wearing a victorious smile. We exchanged wide-eyed glances, both recalling the exciting journey we had just conquered. It was a moment of shared success, and my initial unwillingness had transformed into an unforgettable adventure. That day, I learned that everything we want could be on the other side of fear, and in a moment like this, I’d better take a leap of faith.

【答案】
With Bella approaching the doorway, her feeling became mixed. On the one hand, clearly realizing that she shouldn’t quarrel with her mother, she felt so guilty that she wanted to apologize. On the other hand, having taken her mother’s love for granted over the past few years, she was afraid whether her mother would forgive her for her rudeness. But when she thought of her mother’s familiar face and the noodle seller’s kind advice, she decided to knock on the door bravely. Her mother opened the door but Bella was so ashamed that she didn’t know what to say.
A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. The moment she raised her head, she met her mother’s gentle eyes, full of worry and concern.

When Walter saw us, he rushed to help us.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
As we pushed on, the hike became even tougher. The steep portions seemed endless, and each step required every ounce of our strength and concentration. Sweat trickled down our faces, and our legs felt like jelly. We paused frequently to catch our breath and steady ourselves on the uneven ground. In front of us, the jagged rocks and steep inclines tested our limits. Determined to reach the stone text, Eric and I encouraged each other, inching forward slowly but surely.
When Walter saw us, he rushed to help us. Seeing our struggle, he offered his hand to Eric and supported him over a particularly tricky section. “Take it slow, we’ve got this,” Walter smiled reassuringly. With his assistance, we navigated the final stretch of the challenging path. Finally, we stood before the magnificent stone text, filled with a sense of accomplishment and gratitude. The view was breathtaking, and the hike, though arduous, was undoubtedly worth every step.

Dad put his arm around Mom and told them that they were going on a trip to the Virunga Mountains of Africa. There were three national parks that they would visit.

She reached out to professors, connected with concerned professionals, and explored other opportunities in the field of space exploration. Maya’s toughness and perseverance attracted the attention of a famous astronaut who recognized her passion and potential.
Moved by Maya’s determination, the astronaut became her mentor, guiding her on a new journey. Maya gained hands-on experience, participated in research projects, and immersed herself in the world of space exploration. Years passed, and Maya’s perseverance paid off. She became an accomplished astrophysicist and, eventually, realized her childhood dream of becoming an astronaut. Maya went into space and stared at the earth from above, feeling excited about her great achievements. When looking back all the skepticism and setbacks, she felt they were no longer roadblocks but opportunities for growth. One can achieve extraordinary heights by staying committed to dreams, and persisting in the face of obstacles.

【答案】
Over the next few weeks, I stuck to my new approach. Every day when Leo came home, I listened attentively as he started listing the bad things. I didn’t interrupt, no matter how much I wanted to. After he finished, I gently asked, “But Leo, what good things happened today?” At first, he had to think hard, but gradually, he began to recall some small positive things. Maybe it was a kind word from a classmate or a beautiful cloud he saw on the way home.
As time went by, the change in Leo became more obvious. His daily reports started to include more good things than bad. He no longer focused solely on the negative aspects of life. One day, when we were planning a picnic and it started to rain, instead of complaining, he said, “Well, we can have an indoor picnic then. It could be fun too!” I was so proud to see this transformation in my son. His new positive attitude was like a ray of sunshine, brightening up our lives.

A trip back to China was a turning point for me. Seeing the rapid development and modernization of the country filled me with pride. The towering skyscrapers of Shanghai, the busy streets of Beijing, and the high-speed train that ran through the countryside were all wonderful to witness. Being able to speak Chinese fluently made this trip even more special. I felt a strong connection to the land and its people, and the pride of my heritage grew within me. This experience reshaped my identity, combining my Chinese roots with my American life.
Back in the US, I was determined to promote the Chinese language. Inspired by my trip, I started a Chinese culture club at school, where students could learn about Chinese traditions, history, and language. I organized cultural events, like Chinese New Year celebrations and writing workshops, which attracted a diverse group of students. My efforts were met with enthusiasm, and the club grew rapidly. Through these activities, I aimed to create a sense of appreciation and respect for Chinese culture, ensuring that it remained a lively part of our multicultural society.

【答案】
Then he remembered decorating the tree with his family again. Then Slim changed his mind, and decided to have a simple Christmas. He went out, looking for a Christmas tree. He swung an axe at the tree. The tree fell! After doing this, he shouldered the tree and walked towards the farm. On the way back, he heard many Christmas songs, which made him happy. After he returned to the farm, he put stars on the top of the tree, hung colored balls on the tree, and decorated the Christmas tree.
While singing to his decorated Christmas tree, Slim heard a knock on the door. He opened the door and was surprised to see old Jay. Old Jack was covered with snow. Jack went into the house and said to Slim, “I felt lonely this day, so I decided to come back and spend this Christmas with you. May I?”. Slim listened and shed tears of gratitude. So the two lonely people spent a happy and unforgettable Christmas together.
