Time says Rao stood out for creating a worldwide community of young inventors and inspiring them to go after their goals. Rao insists that starting out small doesn't matter, as long as you have a passion for it. Rao's sense of invention started early. At age 12, she developed a portable device to discover lead in water. She has also created an app called Kindly that uses artificial intelligence to help prevent cyberbullying It allows teens to type in a word or phrase to find out if the words they are using are bullying and lets them decide what they are sending. She said that “Work is going to be in our generation's hands pretty soon. So if no one else is going to do it, I'm going to do it.” Rao has partnered with schools, museums, and science, technology, engineering and math organizations, and other societies to work for thousands of other students. In a world where science is increasingly questioned or challenged, Rao insists that devotion to science is an act of kindness and the best way that a younger generation can better the world. “We have science in everything we're involved in, and I think the biggest thing to put out there is that science is cool, innovating is cool, and anybody can be an innovator,” Rao says. “Anybody can do science.” 21.What do we know about Rao? D.She thinks that only the younger generation can better the world. 根据第二段第一句“Time says Rao stood out for creating a worldwide community of young inventors and inspiring them to go after their goals.(《时代》杂志表示,Rao之所以出类拔萃,是因为她创建了一个由年轻发明家组成的全球社区,并激励他们追求自己的目标。)” B。 22.What can we learn from the passage? A.Time waits for no man. B.Ups and downs make one strong. C.Passion and devotion help to promote excellence. D.Good habits formed at youth make all the difference. 根据第二段第二句“Rao insists that starting out small doesn't matter, as long as you have a passion for it.(Rao坚持认为,从小事做起并不重要,只要你热爱它。)”和最后一段第一句中的“Rao insists that devotion to science is an act of kindness and the best way that a younger generation can better the world.(Rao坚持认为,献身科学是一种善举,是年轻一代改善世界的最好方式。)” C。 23.From which is the text probably taken? A.A newspaper. B.A diary. C.Travel brochure. D.A history book. A。 B Today we communicate over the Internet all the time. In this blog post, I want to discuss how we keep our Internet communications well protected. “How are the mobile apps safe?” I can hear you ask. It is a good question. They all use encryption (加密) to make sure no one else can eavesdrop__on your messages with your friends, family, and business partners. Apple is one of the first to do this for its users; however, it started encrypting the messages between iCloud users and the shortcoming is that the encryption only works between iCloud users. Many of us are used to being able to take our computers down to the local coffee shop or with us when we travel, connect to any WiFi, and then keep doing what we always do on the Internet. What you may not be aware of, however, is that public WiFi is not encrypted. Anything done on those wireless networks can be known by some bad people. So how do you protect the wireless? It can be protected by using a Virtual Private Network (VPN). As with the encryption protection for email and messaging, there are a lot of VPN providers out there that don't cost a lot of money. Any person or organization can research and decide which one is best for their needs. Using a free VPN isn't suggested. Free VPN providers can be uncertain because they get much of their pay through pushing ads to their users. And they can follow and record what to do, which kind of fails the purpose of using a VPN in the first place. Returning to how a VPN can protect your communications, we could go into a lot of details about what a VPN does, but we will keep it simple instead. Unlike the protection above, which is very specific, a VPN works by creating a passage between you and a distant server. This passage is encrypted, which means that everything you send through it is protected from being listened. This can be especially useful if you are working at a coffee shop or an airport. 24.Where does the text probably come from? A.A website. B.A guidebook. C.A personal diary. D.A scientific magazine. 根据第一段第二句“In this blog post, I want to discuss how we keep our Internet communications well protected.(在这篇博文中,我想讨论一下我们如何保护我们的互联网通讯。)” A。 25.What does the underlined phrase “eavesdrop on” in Paragraph 2 mean? A.Care about. B.Miss out on. C.Get something by accident. D.Listen secretly to something. 根据第二段开头的问题“How are the mobile apps safe?(移动应用程序的安全程度如何?)” D。 26.What is the disadvantage of using the encryption of Apple? A.It works slowly. B.It costs you too much. C.It is unsafe sometimes. D.It is limited to certain user. 根据第二段中的“the shortcoming is that the encryption only works between iCloud users(缺点是加密只在iCloud用户之间有效)”可知,苹果手机加密技术的缺点是仅限于特定的用户。故选D。 27.Paragraph 4 implies that a free VPN ________. A.requires extra fees for longtime usage B.may cause risks to personal information C.pushes ads according to your interest D.fails to be encrypted sometimes 答案:B 推理判断题。根据第四段中的“Free VPN providers can be uncertain because they get much of their pay through pushing ads to their users. And they can follow and record what to do, which kind of fails the purpose of using a VPN in the first place.(免费VPN提供商可能不确定,因为他们的大部分收入是通过向用户推送广告获得的。他们可以跟踪并记录要做什么,这在一开始就违背了使用VPN的目的。)”可推知,免费的VPN可能对个人信息造成风险。故选B。 C Internet time tied to teen depression (抑郁) symptoms Spending time online is normal behaviour for teenagers. But too much Internet use by teens—or too little, for that matter—might be related to depression, a new study finds. The findings, reported in the Journal of Pediatrics, do not mean that the Internet is to blame. For one, teens in the study who spent no time online were also at increased risk of depression symptoms. Instead, the researchers say that both heavy Internet use, and nonuse, could serve as signals that a teenager is having a hard time. For the study, Dr PierreAndre Michaud and his colleagues at the University of Lausanne, Switzerland, surveyed 7,200 individuals aged 16 to 20 about their Internet use. Those who were online more than two hours per day were considered “heavy” Internet users, while those online anywhere from several times per week to two hours per day were considered “regular” users. The teenagers also answered a number of healthrelated questions, including some standard questions about “depressive tendencies” that gauge (判定) how often a person feels sad or hopeless. Compared with regular Internet users, the study found, kids who were heavy users or nonusers were more likely to be depressed or very depressed. Among male teens, heavy users and nonusers were both around onethird more likely to have a high depression score, compared to “regular” users. Among girls, heavy Internet users had an 86 percent greater chance of depression, while nonusers had a 46 percent greater likelihood compared to regular users. That was with factors like family income and any chronic health problems taken into account. Since teenagers typically go online to contact with friends, the researchers speculate (推测) that those who are never online may be more socially isolated. 28.How long are those who are online per day considered “heavy” Internet users? A.More than two hours. B.More than eight hours. C.More than twelve hours. D.More than ten hours. 根据第四段第一句“Those who were online more than two hours per day were considered ‘heavy’ Internet users”可知,每天上网时间超过两小时的人被视为“过度”上网者。故选A。 29.What's the purpose of Dr Michaud and his colleagues' study? A.To know the actual number of teenagers online. B.To know the actual time of teenagers online. C.To know the influence on study about teenagers online. D.To know the relationship between the Internet use and depression. D。 30.According to the accounts of the sixth paragraph, what can we conclude? A.Nonusers of Internet aren't likely to be depressed. B.Among girls, heavy Internet users are more likely to suffer depression than regular users. C.Heavy users will lead to death unless limited. D.Nonusers have more possibility to be depressed than heavy users. 根据本段中的“Among girls, heavy Internet users had an 86 percent greater chance of depression”可知,女孩当中过度上网者比正常上网者患抑郁症的可能性高,故选B。 31.What's the meaning of the underlined word “isolated” in the last paragraph? A.Independent. B.United. C.Separated. D.Capable. C。 D Wearing a protective suit, Jiang Aiqin waited for the arrival of the garbage trucks. She was about to start her voluntary work: garbage classification. But once she'd been working for a while, the 17yearold of Chongqing Nankai Middle School realized that sorting out garbage by hand is a torturous (折磨人的) and timeconsuming process. From the 2,000 replies to an online questionnaire she designed, Jiang found that only half of the residents were able to sort out their garbage and many blamed their difficulties on the poor classification system. Jiang wondered what she could do to help out with the problem. It was her mother that gave her the hint:She suggested that Jiang introduce artificial intelligence (人工智能) into garbage classification. Inspiration struck, leading her to design a new app. When users come to the front of a bin, they describe the garbage on their smartphones and create a QR code sticker Using a machine beside the dustbin, they scan the code, which then tells them the correct bin to use. With the app, you can track (追踪) the progress of your trash. “It would save residents troubles and inform them about garbage classification,” said Jiang. “As the method spread from household to household, the efficient disposal of garbage in cities would be established.” Although the teenager had a blueprint in mind, she didn't know how to program an app. To this end, Jiang visited an environmental protection company for help. She told the company about her app idea, and as a result won recognition for her innovation (发明) from the company's experts. Finally, Jiang did a further duty as a citizen: She wrote to local government about her idea. Replying, the government told her that “The design is creative and workable” and that “a clean environment needs the help of citizens like you.” 32.All of the following contribute to the creation of the garbage sorting app EXCEPT ________. A.Jiang Aiqin's mother B.environmental experts C.the government D.Jiang Aiqin's classmates 答案:D 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“It was her mother that gave her the hint (她的妈妈给了她提示)”,倒数第二段中的“and as a result won recognition for her innovation (发明) from the company's experts(结果赢得了这家公司专家对她的发明的认可)”和最后一段中的“Replying, the government”可知,文中的母亲、专家、政府这三方都对她的这款应用软件有帮助,而没有提到同学。故选D。 33.What's the purpose of Jiang's app? A.To make garbage classification efficient. B.To earn her a large quantity of money. C.To earn her much higher social status. D.To monitor people for garbage classification. 根据倒数第三段中的“It would save residents troubles”以及“the efficient disposal of garbage in cities would be established”可知,它将给居民省了很多麻烦,并在城市里建立起高效的垃圾处理方式。 A。 34.In order to use the garbage classification app, users needn't ________. A.come to the front of a bin B.create a QR code sticker C.use a smartphone to scan the code D.describe garbage on their smartphone 答案:C 细节理解题。根据第六段“When users come to the front of a bin ... tells them the correct bin to use.(当用户来到垃圾桶前,他们在智能手机上描述垃圾,生成二维码标签。通过使用一台垃圾桶旁边的机器扫描代码,告知他们该使用哪只垃圾桶。)”可知,C项“用智能手机扫描二维码”不符合原文意思。故选C。 35.Which of the following word can describe Jiang Aiqin? A.Particular. B.Determined. C.Sensitive. D.Modest. 根据本文对这款应用软件开发的过程描述:“to start her voluntary work (开始她的志愿者工作)”,“realized that sorting out garbage by hand is a torturous (折磨人的) and timeconsuming process (意识到手工垃圾分类的耗时折磨人)”,“From the 2,000 replies to an online questionnaire she designed (根据2,000份她设计的网上问卷调查的回复)”,“Finally, Jiang did a further duty as a citizen: She wrote to local government about her idea. (最后,她作为一个市民进一步履行责任:给当地政府写信告诉政府关于她的想法。)”可推知,她是一个意志坚定的人。故选B。 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Castles and temples wear away after hundreds of years, but the symbols and words on the stone often survive. __36__. Ebooks came from the development of science and technology, and books can be read online. Many people believe that regular books will be one day replaced by ebooks. Books and ebooks share lots of similarities. They are both items created by great minds. __37__. You can draw lines or highlight some details on books or ebooks as notes. The notes can be kept for a long time. __38__. Firstly, books don't have to be charged, while ebooks need electricity if we want to read them. Moreover, ebooks don't share the same weight when held in the hand as regular books, nor do they give that sense of fulfillment that comes from finishing a thick book. However, ebook devices (设备) are easy to carry. __39__. A disadvantage of ebook devices is that people tend to get distracted (分心的) when they're using one, as many devices often have apps or games on them. __40__. Whichever you prefer, both books and ebooks are just a way to help us gain knowledge and get to know other people's experiences. They are both necessary, so it's too early to say one will disappear. A.But they have differences as well B.They take less space than books C.Indeed our lives are formed by what books we read D.This is similar to how the words in books manage to live on E.They both have an index to introduce the main topic of each book F.But with a regular book, your mind is always absorbed in the words G.Each individual can decide which reading method is best for them based on their own needs 36.D 根据设空前的“Castles and temples wear away after ... survive.” 37.E 根据设空前的“Books and ebooks share lots of similarities. They are both items created by great minds”可知,常规书和电子书的一个相似之处是它们都是由伟人创造出来的,此处介绍另一个相似之处,故E项(它们都有一个索引来介绍每本书的主题)符合语境。故选E。 38.A 根据设空后的“Firstly, books don't have to be charged, while ebooks need electricity if we want to read them.” 故选A。 39.B 根据设空前的“However, ebook devices (设备) are easy to carry.” 40.F 根据设空前的“A disadvantage of ebook devices is ... them.” Older citizens join China's digital age Digital technology has made life easier for most people. To celebrate his girlfriend's birthday, Luke Fortune drove from a small town in Central Oregon to Portland, where he parked his car in a paid garage overnight. The next morning, he discovered that the car's window had been smashed, along with his dreams for the future: His backpack and computer were gone. “Everything important to me was on that computer,” said Fortune, 21, who is studying to become a paramedic “My classwork, every paper I'd written, and all the programs I needed for my paramedic tests. Every letter I was working on for job applications. I felt sick.” Two days after the theft, another young man was standing outside his apartment, also in Portland. Masoud Almazrouei, 29, is an exchange student from the United Arab Emirates. He had been approached by a man who said he had a computer for sale. Only $200. Almazrouei, who had been in the United States for only a year, admits now that he was naive (天真). But he needed a computer, so he bought it, took it home, and turned it on. Within seconds, he saw files and photographs. “I wondered who would sell a computer with all of this on it,” he said. “I realized it could be stolen.” Almazrouei found what appeared to be the owner's cellphone number and called it. “This guy with a thick accent told me he had my computer,” Fortune said. “He told me the story and said it was his fault. I thought it was a scam (骗局). I told him if he really had the computer, he should take it to the police.” Soon after, a police officer called Fortune to say that a man had dropped the computer off and had said he was sorry. He passed along the man's number. Fortune called and thanked Almazrouei and insisted on paying him a reward of $200, the money he was out. A story about the two young men's encounter made it to the local papers. [精彩范文] Fortune called and thanked Almazrouei and insisted on paying him a reward of $200, the money he was out. Almazrouei refused. He said it was his mistake to buy the computer from someone he didn't know and he was the one to shoulder the responsibility. More importantly, he said, it was his honor to return the property to the rightful owner. “I saw a photo of this man in his paramedic uniform,” Almazrouei said. “They help people. He is a good man. I don't want my money back.” A story about the two young men's encounter made it to the local papers. Overnight, Almazrouei became a household name and received numerous compliments for his honesty and kindness. One day he got a call from the president of Portland State University, where Almazrouei is studying economics. Impressed with his student's integrity, the president gave Almazrouei a new MacBook Pro. “We thought since you gave back the laptop, we should give you a laptop so that you'll have one,” he told Almazrouei. “We're very proud of you. It was a great story, and you did the right thing.” 24 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$单元过关检测卷3。 Text one paul, do you remember Jessica's birthday?
