When it comes to perfect views, it really does take a village. Searching for the most camera-ready communities on the planet, we find four villages that fit the bill. Spend a few minutes there and you will realize that “quaint (古色古香的)” and “charming” aren’t just adjectives and that they are a way of life.
Sidi Bou Said in Tunisia
The village seems to disappear into the sky and the blue horizon. All the houses are painted white, the skies are clear, and the backdrop includes the Bay of Tunis which is only in a deeper shade of blue. It’s not surprising that the atmosphere here is a bit random, and it is also home to plenty of lively cafes and art galleries.
Wengen in Switzerland
Wonder how the world was before cars were invented? Wengen, a Switzerland’s village, might just help you get the answer. Cars have been banned in this area for more than 100 years. Imagine seeing woods all around you, snow covered mountains, log cabins and the locals who have kept their Swiss culture undamaged.
Eze in France
France’s most attractive village is Eze. Seemingly frozen in time, Eze has managed to keep its old-world charm. It is the perfect melting pot of cultures because of its closeness to Nice, and today the village enjoys its rich heritage. The architecture here is so special that Walt Disney frequented this village for inspiration.
Bibury in England
Bibury was described by William Morris as “the most beautiful village in England” — known for its watercolor views. The 17th-century stone cottages and a still-working 1902 farm are some of the ancient village’s must-sees.
1. What are the tourists prevented doing in Wengen?
A. Traveling around by car. B. Viewing woods everywhere.
C. Learning about Swiss culture. D. Appreciating snowy mountains.
2. Which village did Walt Disney often visit to get inspired?
A. Eze in France. B. Bibury in England.
C. Wengen in Switzerland. D. Sidi Bou Said in Tunisi.
3. What do the four villages have in common?
A. They have modern architecture.
B. They are all situated by the sea.
C. They have beautiful stone cottages.
D. They own old-world and amazing scenery.

Li Ziyao, a young Chinese student studying in Boston, the US, recently completed Black Myth: Wukong, a game playing based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West.
Li Ziyao was excited that this game, rich in traditional cultural elements, has become very popular in America too. Seeing his American classmates discussing the Monkey King, the architectural styles, and Chinese history, he felt a strong sense of pride.
The cultural elements carried by Black Myth: Wukong are also reflected in its music. The game includes traditional Chinese melodies from the 1986 hit TV series Journey to the West soundtrack, including Celestial Symphony in key scenes. With the international success of Celestial Symphony, Li has noticed that many of his classmates have expressed their desire to learn traditional Chinese musical instruments, especially pipa, which shows unique Chinese beauty.
“Culture plays an extremely important role in inspiring national spirit as well as personal development. I am witnessing first-hand how Chinese culture is being spread and understood globally in a novel and modern way,” Li told the Global Times.
China’s achievements over the past 75 years are closely tied to its thousand-year culture and cultural confidence. Generations of young people with strong values and ethics like Li Ziyao work to develop Chinese culture and present it to the world. They wear Hanfu — traditional Chinese dress, or playing pipa to express cultural confidence.
In ancient times, Chinese ancestors sailed the seas along the historical Maritime (海上的) Silk Road, spreading Chinese culture toward the rest of the world. Today, young people, especially Generation Z, are using unique ways to share Chinese culture with the world.

Walking is the best form of exercise. It is good for the upper respiratory (与呼吸有关的) system and the legs. It helps us control our weight and blood sugar. Walking is also a good way to help you make more friends, bringing chances to see new things and meet new people. Personally I try to walk at least 5 miles daily.
As well as walking, I also cycle around Xiamen. Cycling is great for weight loss and helps to build stamina (耐力). However, cycling does not allow for the same level of social contact as a walk. It is for this reason that I will strongly suggest that you try long-distance walking if you want to be physically healthy. I originally started walking around Xiamen because I didn’t have a car, but I soon started to enjoy the walking for its own sake.
I have also made many friends during my walks. It’s not uncommon for my 5-mile walk to sometimes take as long as 2 or 3 hours, because I stop to chat with different shop owners along my route. These days, if I skip my walk for even one day, the people in the shops may want to know why I didn’t come.
I’ll never forget the first time some people followed me when I was walking, and asked if it was okay for them to walk with me, I really didn’t know what to say, so I just replied that I didn’t mind. I have been invited for lunch, dinner and sometimes just to sit and drink tea with total strangers. There is nothing more pleasant than walking past a schoolyard and hearing all the kids say hello to me.
8. Why did the author have to take a walk at the very beginning?
A. He wanted to build up his strength. B. He enjoyed walking.
C. He had no car. D. He wished to make friends.
9. What does the underlined word “skip” in the third paragraph probably mean?
A. Jump lightly. B. Give up. C. Leave out. D. Change quickly.
10. What can be learned from the text?
A. Cycling allows for no social contact. B. Walking is better than cycling.
C. To be healthy, it’s better to cycle. D. The author prefers walking to cycling.
11. Why does the author tell us his walking experience in the last two paragraphs?
A. To share the unforgettable experience with us.
B. To show the meaning of walking in social contact.
C. To tell us how to develop the habit of walking.
D. To explain why a usual walk takes him as long as 2 or 3 hours.
【答案】8. C 9. B 10. D 11. B

【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段的“However, cycling does not allow for the same level of social contact as a walk. It is for this reason that I will strongly suggest that you try long-distance walking if you want to be physically healthy. (然而,骑自行车不允许与散步同等程度的社交接触。正是因为这个原因,如果你想保持身体健康,我强烈建议你尝试长途步行)”以及第三段的“I have also made many friends during my walks.(我在散步时也交了很多朋友)”可知,文中列举了走路带给他的好处,由此可推知,与骑车相比,作者更喜欢走路。故选D。
11题详解】

It’s not uncommon for my 5-mile walk to sometimes take as long as 2 or 3 hours, because I stop to chat with different shop owners along my route.(我在散步时也交了很多朋友。我步行5英里有时需要2到3个小时,这并不罕见,因为我会停下来与沿途不同的店主聊天)”以及最后一段的“I have been invited for lunch, dinner and sometimes just to sit and drink tea with total strangers. Why can friendships be hard? Because often people aren't as honest and open as they should be. Sometimes, people end up getting hurt.
Most problems with friendships come up because people are just too selfish to care about the things that their friends need. They care about their own needs much more, which makes it hard for friendships to work. However, being selfish is part of human nature. A person is put together in order to take care of himself and his own needs, not necessarily those needs of other people. Even though being selfish is something that all humans are born with, it is something that everyone should guard against.
The best thing to remember when you are a friend to anyone is that you need to treat your friend the same way as you'd like to be treated. This is wonderful advice for a friendship, because it is really the only way to make sure that you are giving your friend everything you would want to be given in a friendship. Whenever you have a question about how you should treat a friend, it is easy to find an answer simply by asking yourself what you would like your friend to do for you, if he or she is in your shoes.
Even if you're always thinking about how you'd like to be treated, and your friends are too, there are issues that come up from time to time in each friendship, and it is important to understand how to deal with these issues so that you can build stronger and healthier friendships. Issues like friends getting boyfriends or girlfriends and not spending enough time with their friends, or even friends finding new friends and leaving old friends behind are issues that will probably come up with one or more of your friendships. It is important to know how to deal with these issues so that you can keep your friends and make new ones. No one wants to have a broken friendship.
12. Why may problems with friendships appear?
A. One is selfish. B. One is alone.
C. One is too anxious. D. One is too busy.
13. What's the first and most important thing to be other people's friend?
A. Not to hurt your friends' feelings.
B. To give your friends whatever you have.
C. To treat your friends as fairly as possible.
D. Not to think of your own needs any more.
14. What is the text mainly about?
A. The Meaning of Friendships
B. The Importance of Friendships
C. The Advantages of Friendships
D. The Problems with Friendships
15. What may follow the last paragraph of the text?
A. How to make many friends.
B. How to keep friends happy.
C. How to treat friends correctly.
D. How to solve friendship issues.
【答案】12. A 13. C 14. D 15. D
【解析】
【分析】本文是一篇议论文,主要讲了为什么友谊会很难,并就如何维持友谊提出了一些建议。
【12题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段第一句“Most problems with friendships come up because people are just too selfish to care about the things that their friends need(大多数友谊问题的出现是因为人们太自私了,不关心他们朋友需要的东西)”可知,朋友之间出现的大多数问题是由于人们太自私。故选A。
13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段第一句“The best thing to remember when you are a friend to anyone is that you need to treat your friend the same way as you'd like to be treated(当你成为任何人的朋友时,最好记住的是,你需要以你希望别人对待你的方式来对待你的朋友)”可知,作者认为要成为别人的朋友,最重要的一件事就是 “尽可能公平地对待你的朋友”。故选C。
【14题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是第二段的“Most problems with friendships come up because people are just too selfish to care about the things that their friends need(大多数友谊问题的出现是因为人们太自私了,不关心他们朋友需要的东西)”可知,全文主要是围绕朋友之间出现的问题进行谈论的。故选D。
【15题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后两句话“It is important to know how to deal with these issues so that you can keep your friends and make new ones. No one wants to have a broken friendship(知道如何处理这些问题是很重要的,这样你就可以保持你的朋友和结交新的朋友。没有人想要一段破裂的友谊)”可知,作者认为为了能保持友谊和不断交到新的朋友,了解如何处理朋友之间的问题是很重要的,那么接下来要谈到的应该是如何处理朋友之间的问题。故选D。

One day, I found a wallet on the street. The wallet contained only three dollars and a very old letter. The envelope was worn and the only thing on it was the return address. I started to open the letter, hoping to find some information. Then I saw the date-1990, and the signature-Beatrice. The letter was written several decades ago.
Then I made every effort and found out that Beatrice was now working in a hospital. I showed her the letter. The second she saw the letter, she took a deep breath and said, “Young man, this letter was the last contact I ever had with Henry. He is my only brother. I loved him very much. I was only 16 at the time and my brother is two years younger than me. If you can find him, tell him I'm still looking for him,” she said and tears began to well up in her eyes. “Mother is waiting for him to come back home.”
When I walked out of the building with the wallet in my hand, the guard of the building recognized the wallet, and with his help, I finally found its owner, Henry. I handed the wallet to Henry and he said, “Yes, that's mine! It must have dropped out of my pocket this afternoon.”
“I read the letter in the hope of finding out who owned the wallet.” I said. The smile on his face suddenly disappeared. He asked, “You read that letter?” “Not only did I read it, but also Beatrice read.” I replied. He suddenly became excited. “Beatrice? You know where she is? How is she? Please tell me,” he begged. “She's fine. She has been looking for you.” I said softly.
He grabbed my hand and said, “Sir, you know she is my only sister in this world. I've always missed her.”
Henry and I took the elevator (电梯) down to Beatrice's room. I walked over to her. “Beatrice,” I said softly, pointing to Henry, who was waiting with me in the doorway. “Do you know the man?”

第一部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
When it comes to perfect views, it really does take a village.

4. What can we know about Li Ziyao?
A. He taught his classmates pipa.
B. He wrote the music Celestial Symphony.
C. He wore Hanfu to express cultural confidence.
D. He created a game featured traditional Chinese culture.
5. The Chinese elements in the Black Myth: Wukong do NOT include ________.
A. the character. B. the language. C. music. D. architectural styles.
6. Why is Maritime Silk Road mentioned in the last paragraph?
A. To give evidence. B. To make predictions.
C To draw a conclusion. D. To make comparisons.
7. Which of the following can be the best title of the text?
A. Traditional Chinese culture, a Great Hit
B. Black Myth: Wukong, a Popular Game
C. Journey to the West: a Loved Classic Chinese Novel
D. Li Ziyao: a Good Example to Spread Chinese Culture

As well as walking I also cycle around Xiamen.
A To share the unforgettable experience with us.
B. To show the meaning of walking in social contact.
C. To tell us how to develop the habit of walking.
D. To explain why a usual walk takes him as long as 2 or 3 hours.
D
B To give your friends whatever you have.
C. To treat your friends as fairly as possible.
D. Not to think of your own needs any more.
14. What is the text mainly about?
A. The Meaning of Friendships
B. The Importance of Friendships
C. The Advantages of Friendships
D. The Problems with Friendships
15. What may follow the last paragraph of the text?
A. How to make many friends.
B. How to keep friends happy.
C. How to treat friends correctly.
D. How to solve friendship issues.

He asked “You read that letter?” “Not only did I read it, but also Beatrice read.” I replied.
