You probably have already known the plot of this one: A coach teaches the worst youth team in the league the power of teamwork. What makes this movie different is that the team expect just as much from their coach as he does of them, and give him severe criticism when he doesn’t come through. Where to stream: Disney+, Digital rental Cats Don’t Dance (1997) Those who have seen it absolutely love it for the songs penned by Randy Newman, animated choreography(编舞) developed by the late, great Gene Kelly, and a fun story about a cat named Danny who dreams of breaking into Hollywood. Where to stream: Tubi, The Roku Channel, Digital rental Fly Away Home (1996) Before they were a couple in Noah Baumbach’s The Squid and the Whale, Jeff Daniels and Anna Paquin play a father and daughter who build a plane so they can lead a group of geese on their first migration(迁徙) south for the winter. Assuming your children aren’t into mid-2000s art house films, the pairing of these two actors won’t affect their enjoyment of this heartwarming, visually impressive film. Where to stream: MGM+, Digital rental Babe: Pig in the City (1998) Director George Miller builds a tough but dreamy city that tests the optimism of its hero, a pi g trying to save his farm from closedown. While this may not mean much to your kids, the film is a favorite of musician Tom Waits, making it much cooler than your typical kid’s movie. Where to stream: Starz, Digital rental 21. As they went along, they saw a pair of old shoes lying in the path. They supposed the shoes belonged to a poor man who was employed in a field close by and who had nearly finished his day’s work. The student turned to the professor, saying, “Let’s play a trick on him: we can hide his shoes, and hide ourselves behind those bushes, and wait to see his confusion when he cannot find them”. “My young friend,” answered the professor, “we should never amuse ourselves at the expense of the poor. But you are rich, and may give yourself much greater pleasure by helping the poor man. Put a coin into each shoe, and then we hide ourselves and watch how the discovery will affect him.” The student did so, and they both placed themselves behind the bushes close by. The poor man soon finished his work, and walked across the field to the path where he had left his coat and shoes. While putting on his coat he slipped his foot into one of his shoes, feeling something hard. He bent down to feel what it was, and found the coin. Astonishment and wonder were seen on his face. He fixed his eyes on the coin, turned it round, and looked at it again and again. He then looked on all sides, but no person was seen. He put the money into his pocket, and continued to put on the other shoe, but his surprise was doubled on finding the other coin. His feelings overcame him. He fell upon his knees, looked up to heaven and cried a sincere thanksgiving, in which he spoke of his wife, sick and helpless, and his children without bread. He said the timely help, from some unknown hand, would save them from dying. The student stood there, deeply affected, and his eyes filled with tears. “Now,” said the professor, “aren’t you much more pleased to do that than to play your intended trick?” The student replied, “You have taught me a lesson which I will never forget.” 24. 根据第三段中的“we should never amuse ourselves at the expense of the poor.”(我们不能以戏弄穷人来达到取悦自己的目的)可知,这个年轻人想捉弄那个穷人来取悦自己。 根据倒数第三段中的“He fell upon his knees, looked up to heaven and cried a sincere thanksgiving, in which he spoke of his wife, sick and helpless, and his children without bread, Whom the timely help, from some unknown hand, would save from dying.”(他跪下、看着天、感激地哭了,因为他有生病的妻子、没有饭吃的孩子)可知,穷人发现了硬币之后,心中充满了感激。 根据最后一段中的“You have taught me a lesson which I will never forget”(你给我一个永生难忘的教训)可推知,这说明教授非常的智慧,用事实来教训了学生。 C。 C Sure, it’s good to get along well with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant. And yes, it’s good to get along well with your teacher because, in general, it’s smart to learn how to get along well with the different types of people you’ll meet throughout your life. In fact, kids who get along well with their teachers not only learn more, but they’re more comfortable with asking questions and getting extra help. This makes it easier for them to understand new materials and makes them do their best on tests. When you have this kind of relationship with a teacher, he or she can be someone to turn to with problems, such as problems with learning or school issues (问题). Here is a question: What if you don’t get along with your teachers? In fact, teachers want to get along well with you and enjoy seeing you learn. But teachers and students sometimes have personality clashes (个性冲突), which can happen between any two people. If you show your teacher that you want to make the situation better, he or she will probably do everything possible to make that happen. By dealing with a problem like this, you learn something about how to get along with people who are different from you. However, if a certain teacher isn’t your favorite, you can still have a successful relationship with him or her, if you take your basic responsibilities as a student. Here are some of those responsibilities: Attend class ready to learn. Be prepared for class with the right stationery, books, and completed homework. Listen when your teacher is talking. Do your best, whether it’s a classroom assignment, homework, or a test. 28. What will happen to you when getting along well with your teachers according to the passage? A. We will have no problems with study. B. We will get a better seat in the classroom. C. We will get the best scores in the exams. D. We will have more pleasant time in the classroom. 29. If you don’t like a certain teacher, what should you do according to the author? A. We should ignore the differences between the teacher and us. B. We should choose a new school. C. We should study harder on weekends. D. We should take our basic responsibilities as a student. 30. The passage is written for ________. A. teachers B. students C. parents D. graduates 31. What does the passage mainly talk about? A. Studying skills for students. B. The importance of a good relationship with your teachers. C. The importance of friendship in schools. D. Useful skills to get along well with your parents. D 29. D 30. B 31. 根据第一段“Sure, it’s good to get along well with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant.(当然,和老师相处得好是很有好处的,因为这会让你在课堂上度过的时间更愉快)”可知,当学生和老师相处关系好的话,在教室度过的时光会是愉快的。 根据第五段“However, if a certain teacher isn’t your favorite, you can still have a successful relationship with him or her, if you take your basic responsibilities as a student.(然而,如果某个老师不是你最喜欢的,你仍然可以和他或她有一个成功的关系,如果你承担你作为一个学生的基本责任)”可知,如果学生不喜欢某位老师,那么只要做好学生应该做的事情就好了,担起自己的责任。 根据第一段“Sure, it’s good to get along well with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant.(当然,和老师相处得好是很有好处的,因为这会让你在课堂上度过的时间更愉快)”中“your teacher”“ the time you spend in the classroom”并纵观全文可知,文章中的you指的是学生,也是目标读者,由此可知,这篇文章是写给学生的,教给学生如何和老师相处。 根据第一段“Sure, it’s good to get along well with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant.(当然,和老师相处得好是很有好处的,因为这会让你在课堂上度过的时间更愉快)”及第二段“And yes, it’s good to get along well with your teacher because, in general, it’s smart to learn how to get along well with the different types of people you’ll meet throughout your life.(是的,和老师关系和谐是很好的,因为总的来说,学习如何与你一生中会遇到的不同类型的人相处是很聪明的)”第三段“In fact, kids who get along well with their teachers not only learn more, but they’re more comfortable with asking questions and getting extra help.(事实上,与老师相处融洽的孩子不仅学得更多,而且他们更愿意提问和得到额外的帮助)”可知,本文主要介绍了学生和老师相处和谐的重要性,下文又就如何和老师相处给了建议。故选B项。 D About 900 miles off the coast of Chile, scientists have discovered an underwater mountain home to primitive ecosystems that they believe host at least 20 previously unknown species. The team mapped a 1.9-mile tall seamount, which is part of the Nazca Ridge (NR), an underwater mountain range in the southeast Pacific Ocean. The potentially new species that have yet to be officially confirmed include a sea urchin, starfish and a squat lobster. The findings will be submitted to the Ocean Census, which promotes the discovery of new sea species for the confirmation. The team also documented rare sightings of the delightfully named Casper octopus and recorded a live squid, a creature that had only previously been studied from a few dead samples. The discoveries are the result of a 28-day expedition (考察) to the understudied NR, led by Schmidt Ocean Institute. Before this mission, the height and the exact location of the mountain range weren’t known, researchers said. New technology allowed researchers to study the complex depths with greater accuracy than previously possible. Researchers used a remotely operated vehicle named SuBastian to gather images to map the sea floor. Only 26% of the seafloor has been mapped with such high resolution, said Schmidt Ocean Institute’s director Jyotika Virmani. Through the map, each expedition “let us have a better understanding of the uncharted seabed and made us focus more on the lives on our home planet,” she said. The Institute’s two prior expeditions to the NR and the neighboring Salasy Gómez Ridge (SyGR), in January and February, 2024, led to the discovery of 150 new species. Both mountain ranges are in the high seas and lie outside of any country. They’re being threatened since there’re the effects of climate change plastic pollution, overfishing and potential deep-sea mining. We hope the region containing the NR and the SyGR is a candidate to become a sea protected area that could protect sea life from activities such as commercial fishing or oil drilling. We hope the data gathered from these expeditions will help inform future policies, safeguarding these undeveloped environments for future generations. 32. What will the team do for the potentially new species? A. Return them to the NR. B. Find a sea floor for them. C. Help do species identification. D. Document them for dead samples. 33. What can be inferred about the NR? A. It had been well-studied before the expedition. B. Researchers had known its rare species before. C. Researchers touched its every corner in person. D. New technology helped explore it fruitfully. 34. What does the underlined word “uncharted” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Shallow. B. Uncovered. C. Unknown. D. Polluted. 35. What does the author say about the NR and the SyCR in the last paragraph? A. Their ecosystems are a great concern. B. They are free from deep-sea mining activities. C. They both became sea protected areas. D. Their locations promote commercial fishing. C 33. D 34. C 35. 根据第二段“The potentially new species that have yet to be officially confirmed include a sea urchin, starfish and a squat lobster. The findings will be submitted to the Ocean Census, which promotes the discovery of new sea species for the confirmation.(尚未得到官方确认的潜在新物种包括海胆、海星和矮脚龙虾。这些发现将提交给海洋普查,以确认新海洋物种的发现)”可知,对于潜在的新物种,研究小组将帮助进行物种鉴定。故选C项。 【33题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Before this mission, the height and the exact location of the mountain range weren’t known, researchers said. New technology allowed researchers to study the complex depths with greater accuracy than previously possible. Researchers used a remotely operated vehicle named SuBastian to gather images to map the sea floor. (研究人员说,在这次任务之前,我们不知道山脉的高度和确切位置。新技术使研究人员能够比以前更准确地研究复杂的深度。研究人员使用名为SuBastian的远程操作车辆收集图像以绘制海底地图)”可知,新任务之前,研究人员不知道山脉的高度和确切位置,而新技术可以帮助人们收集图像以绘制海底地图,对纳斯卡海岭进行卓有成效的探索。故选D项。 【34题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段“Before this mission, the height and the exact location of the mountain range weren’t known, researchers said.(研究人员说,在这次任务之前,人们不知道山脉的高度和确切位置)”和划线单词后面的“The Institute’s two prior expeditions to the NR and the neighboring Salas y Gómez Ridge (SyGR), in January and February, 2024, led to the discovery of 150 new species.(该研究所之前在2024年1月和2月对NR和邻近的Salasy Gómez Ridge进行了两次考察,发现了150个新物种)”可知,探索未知的海底才可能发现新物种,推测划线单词uncharted的意义为“未知的;地图上未绘出(或未标明)的”,与Unknown意义一致。 根据最后一段“They’re being threatened since there’re the effects of climate change, plastic pollution, overfishing and potential deep-sea mining. We hope the region containing the NR and the SyGR is a candidate to become a sea protected area that could protect sea life from activities such as commercial fishing or oil drilling.(由于气候变化、塑料污染、过度捕捞和潜在的深海采矿的影响,它们正受到威胁。我们希望包括NR和SyGR在内的地区成为海洋保护区的候选地区,以保护海洋生物免受商业捕鱼或石油钻探等活动的影响)”可知,NR和SyCR地区的生态系统受到威胁,是令人担心的问题。故选A项。 Five Steps to Be More Confident Practice these five simple things, and you’ll start to truly be more self-confident. 【36题详解】 根据前文“Learn something new.(学习新的东西)”以及后文“you should believe you have what it takes to figure it out.(你应该相信你有能力把它弄清楚)”可知,本段主题是学习新的东西可以让自己自信,后文说你应该相信你有能力把它弄清楚,所以F项“Instead of immediately think you can’t accomplish something(不要马上认为你不能完成某件事)”符合本段主题,和下文逻辑一致,符合文意。故选F项。 【37题详解】 根据前文“Whether you realize it or not, the words you speak shape your beliefs about yourself — and what others believe about you. When we say we’re sorry all the time, we make people believe we have something to be sorry for.(无论你是否意识到,你说出的话语会塑造你对自己的信念——以及他人对你的看法。当我们总是说“对不起”时,我们会让人们相信我们确实有值得道歉的地方)”以及后文“Putting others down always comes from a place of insecurity (不安全).(贬低他人总是源于内心的不安全感)”可知,前文讲述说自己的话会影响他人对你的看法,后文讲述贬低他人,所以空处应是过渡句,E项“That also goes for the words we speak about others(这也适用于我们谈论别人的话)”符合文意,承接上文,引出下文。故选E项。 【38题详解】 设空位于段首,为本段中心句,根据后文“Sometimes, to gain confidence, all you need is a push in the right direction. That’s exactly what advisors are for. They can point out your blind spots, help you make a plan to grow, and figure out the best next steps to achieve your goals.(有时候,为了获得自信,你所需要的只是朝正确的方向推一把。这正是顾问的作用。他们可以指出你的盲点,帮助你制定成长计划,并找出实现目标的最佳下一步)”可知,本段主题是向他人学习,所以B项“Learn from the best(向最好的人学习)”符合本段主题。故选B项。 【39题详解】 根据前文“Getting involved in groups is an underrated (低估的) part of building your confidence.(参与团体是建立自信的一个被低估的部分)”以及后文“You can get started in a book club — anything fun and social.(你可以从读书会开始——任何有趣的社交活动)”可知,本段主题是参与团体活动,后文是举具体例子,所以G项“One way to do this is make friends based on common interests(一种方法是基于共同的兴趣结交朋友)”是对前文参与团体活动的建议,后文是具体举例,符合文意。故选G项。 【40题详解】 设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“Improve confidence by focusing on your desired self. Decide who you want to be. This brings your deepest values front and center in your life. It helps you determine what’s important to you.(通过关注你想要的自己来提高自信。 In 2016, I started working for the local company here in the community. He ran into an old beggar at the counter, whose smelly clothes made him annoyed. Andrew said some dirty and unfriendly words to him, but the old beggar was not mad at it or didn’t feel any embarrassed. On the contrary, the old beggar sincerely apologized to Andrew for his rudeness. Ignoring the kind apology, Andrew was still angry about the unpleasant meeting. Andrew ordered a pizza quickly and found a seat to sit. To Andrew’s surprise, he found the old beggar approached him and sat down in front of him. Andrew disappointedly looked around, only to find the shop was so popular that there was no empty chair except the opposite chair. It seemed that he had to tolerate sharing the table with him. After being aware of the situation, Andrew boiled with anger and lowered his head to force himself to concentrate on his work. Soon the waitress walked towards them, holding a freshly-baked pizza in her hand and put it on their table. Andrew was about to reach for one when the old beggar grabbed one and took a big bite of it. Andrew’s anger increased and he couldn’t believe there was such a shameless (无耻的) man in this world. No matter how angrily Andrew looked at the beggar with burning eyes, the old beggar still went on enjoying his pizza. Andrew was totally overwhelmed by his anger. He snatched (夺走) the plate, took one slice and bit it as a revenge (报复). Andrew tried to finish it quickly, because he wanted to finish all of them and leave none to the shameless old guy. However, choosing to pay no attention to it, the old beggar pulled the plate over and continued to chew another slice. What the old beggar did urged Andrew to speed up no matter whether he finished his in the mouth. As long as Andrew finished one, he would take away another very quickly and put it into his mouth. In Andrew’s mind, that was more like a competition. Shortly afterwards, there was only one piece left on the plate. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ It was then that Andrew realized he had mistaken the beggar’s pizza for his own. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Possible version Shortly afterwards, there was only one piece left on the plate. Both Andrew and the old beggar stared at the last slice, their eyes locked in a silent battle of wills. Unbelievably, the old beggar rushed to get it and he won. Andrew couldn’t bear any more and warned the old beggar that he shouldn't take what belonged to him. The old beggar, a bit confused upon hearing that, split the last slice in half and passed one piece to Andrew with that seemingly unclean hand. Andrew couldn’t accept this ridiculous sharing and humiliated the old beggar. At the very moment, the waitress went straight to their table and beyond everyone’s expectation put the same kind of pizza on the table. Andrew was frozen with surprise. It was then that Andrew realized he had mistaken the beggar’s pizza for his own. Andrew seemed to be mute and motionless, just staring at the steaming new pizza. The truth was that Andrew and the old beggar ordered the very same pizza and the old beggar paid earlier than Andrew. Following the rule of “first come, first served”, the waitress served the old beggar first. The second plate came as a bolt from the blue. Feeling the blood rush to his face, he immediately apologized to the old beggar for his ignorance. He couldn't wait to ask the old beggar why he liked to share his pizza with him. The old beggar answered without thinking twice, “Even though I may not have much, I am happy to share.” Deeply touched by what the beggar said, he happily invited the old beggar to share his with him. 词汇激活 行为类 ①忍受:bear/stand/tolerate ②道歉:apologize/make an apology ③回答:answer/respond 情绪类 ①困惑的:confused/puzzled ②感动的:touched/moved 【点睛】【高分句型1】The truth was that Andrew and the old beggar ordered the very same pizza and the old beggar paid earlier than Andrew.(运用了that引导的表语从句) 【高分句型2】He couldn’t wait to ask the old beggar why he liked to share his pizza with him.(运用了why引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$请看听力部分第一节,第一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项。 Excuse me, can you tell me how much the shirt is? The Mighty Ducks (1992) It’s never too early to show your kids a sports movie. Where to stream: Starz, Digital rental 21 Where can people watch The Mighty Ducks? A. Starz, Digital rental. B. Disney+, Digital rental. C. MGM+, Digital rental. D. They are favorites of musicians. B One day, a college student was taking a walk with a professor. The student wanted to play a trick on the poor man to ______. A. find the truth B. show his wisdom C. teach him a lesson D. amuse himself 25. After finding the two coins, the man felt ______. A. interested B. thankful C. peaceful D. helpless 26. We can know from the passage that the professor is ______. A. humorous B. rich C. wise D. serious 27. What does the story intend to tell us? A. God helps those who help themselves. B. Where there is a will, there is a way. C. A small act of kindness brings great joy. D. Actions speak louder than words. C Sure, it’s good to get along well with your teacher because it makes the time you spend in the classroom more pleasant. Here are some of those responsibilities: Attend class ready to learn Be prepared for class with the right stationery, books, and completed homework. D About 900 miles off the coast of Chile, scientists have discovered an underwater mountain home to primitive ecosystems that they believe host at least 20 previously unknown species. They’re being threatened since there’re the effects of climate change, plastic pollution, overfishing and potential deep-sea mining. Five Steps to Be More Confident Practice these five simple things, and you’ll start to truly be more self-confident. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $$
